Figures - Still some left, but since W/T left Diamond's top 10 NO Buffy figure has stayed as long. In fact even Buffy figs that hit #1 are usually out of the figure top 10 by next month. Witches have staying power.
I guess they don't know that Buffy ended after 7 seasons (actually 6.5) and Inkworks is a really niche market as sre the comics. Personally, I think that Transformers is a much better bet. I know that I won't be buying this shit but then I never bought buffy merchandise like I did stuff for Trek so ME has never benefitted from me.Diamond Select Expands Licenses
For Buffy, G.I. Joe, Transformers
Diamond Select Toys has announced Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel prop replica licenses from Twentieth Century Fox Licensing. DST has been producing BTVS action figures and has now expanded its existing license to include prop replicas. Several previously announced (by other companies) prop replicas will "return from the grave" thanks to Diamond Select Toys starting (very aptly) with the Urn of Osiris, which is due out this fall.
Although the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series ended after 8 seasons, the property remains strong thanks to syndication and key Buffy licensees such as Inkworks have continued to sell out of new Buffy releases (another Inkworks series of Buffy trading cards, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Memories is due out in September).
Diamond Select has also announced an agreement with the Hasbro Properties Group to create resin statues and busts featuring the iconic characters from Hasbro's Transformers and G.I. Joe brands.
Sculptors from Art Asylum and Plan B are currently working on new designs that DST will release in 2007, in plenty of time for the debut of the big budget Transformers live action film.
Fan Films Reclaim the Whedonverse
Fans of Angel revel in Cherub's many satirical references to the original show, but the series also appeals to people who hate Angel, or who just get a kick out of zany parodies.
Margaret Weis Productions has sent the Serenity RPG core book back to press for a fourth time, and is expecting to ship additional copies within the next four weeks. The new printing will include current errata and an index that were not in previous editions.
We asked spokesperson Jamie Chambers whether there were any other products on the drawing boards. "Right now Universal has no approved additional product plans," he said, "but we are hoping that they will decide to let us move forward with them soon."
I will not speak ill of her or her company.
Yeah, they backed the wrong horse. So did WE at one point.
Spike Mini-Series From IDW
First of 3 New 'Whedon-Verse' Properties
July 20, 2006
IDW has announced a new five-part Spike mini-series based on the popular character from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Screenwriter Brian Lynch (Big Helium Dog, Monkey Man), who approaches the project as if he were doing a full-on, big-budget Spike summer movie, is writing the Spike: Asylum series, with stylish Italian artist Franco Urru illustrating.
Spike: Asylum, in which Spike must check himself into a rehab facility for vampires, demons, and other spectral creatures in order to find a missing girl, is the first of three new projects based on characters created by Joss Whedon that IDW will announce this month.
'Firefly' Goes Hi Def
TV Week is reporting that Joss Whedon's 11-episode Firefly series has been remastered from film, on which it was originally recorded, to 1080i high definition for a September 24th debut on UHD, a high def channel offered by many major cable groups. The conversion, unusual for a show not originally recorded in high definition, is possible because Whedon insisted on recording the film in widescreen on film, and even went so far as to put major characters in the far sides of the frame to make it more difficult to air the show any other way (according to the Firefly DVD commentary, as reported by TV Week).
No news yet on when the HD version might make it to DVD. And it's not going to be easy for Whedon fans. Twentieth Century Fox, which owns Firefly, has adopted the Blu-Ray HD DVD format, while Universal, which owns Serenity, uses the HD-DVD format. This means that the serious Browncoats are going to need both kinds of DVD players to watch both the series and the feature.
