Off topic topics

Postby RainbowNerdette » Mon Apr 26, 2010 1:36 pm

I might not make myself very popular by suggesting this but eh...

It seems like a lot of kittens would enjoy discussing certain topics and/or playing games containing subjects that are off topic anywhere on the board.

I understand, and respect for that matter, that (and why) some things are no-no's but do the rules have to be so strict that they spoil innocent games? Or would an amendment of the rules making stuff that isn't Bad Universe legal ok?

My philosophy being here that somewhere around a mention of clothes and not getting used to them reality got diverted by some sort of evil trio device and non-kittens seem to be unable to see how fragmented the aura of everything in the so-called "canon" reality is...

But back to my question/request; Do we have to shun the good bits? And things that have barely anything to do with it like... Certain webcast musicals for example?

off course no added power should be given to non existant, delusion of an alternate reality. After all, as Wiccans know, discussing it is giving it power so I´ll shut up about that part now :p

If I'm going out of line here feel free to lock/delete the topic but it's just something I've been honestly feeling ever since I first joined (which is about 2 years ago, this is the new account of a returning kitten)

Hi there,

Couple of answers to your questions.

There is a reason why the FAQ of this board exists, and why the rules are the way they are. I think Kathryn puts it best in her comment from this recently closed thread (scroll to the bottom):

http://www.thekittenboard.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=5900

The board has gone unmoderated for a long time, and because that off topic threads and posts have gone unchecked, leading to more off topic threads and posts, and a misunderstanding of what is okay to post on this board.

The fact of the matter is, if the moderators are going to be lenient with one thread/post, we have to be lenient with all of them. Singling one thread out because it's an "innocent game" gives the sense that some threads are less off topic than others, and that opens up a whole 'nother can of beans. If it's even slightly off topic, it's off topic.

The rules were put into play by the creator of the board (who, although she is not around a lot, still pays for the board to be in existence). We as moderators are only here to make sure everything adheres to what was decided upon when the board was first created all those years ago. Does that mean that I'm opposed to change? No. But I don't have the authority to make new rules or amend old ones. On that I would defer to Xita. You can send her a PM with your concerns about the board, and see how she feels about it.

And lastly, there are plenty of places on the web where you can discuss topics that are off topic here. Remember, this place is all W/T loving, all the time. :)

Oh I wouldn't wanna go beyond Xita for any reason, am just wondering if everyone, which includes Xita too, thinks the rules need to be that strict cause we obviously all love some of them forbidden fruits :-p

and W/T love forever, deff

Once again, not meaning to overthrow anyone or kick the rules, just a honest question cause, me included, a lot of people have started/participated in stuff that's against the rules and loved it without bothering anyone.

Edit; and I;ve stopped making sense/started to babble in my attempts to not be a bad girl... maybe I should sleep LoL

Huh? I just found a litterbox, is it just me or wasn't it there when I started this thread? *confuzzled now*

Maybe I was just an un-housebroken kitty before LoL but it seems to defeat the purpose of this thread doesn't it? So maybe it deserves a lock on it.

*tries to think how I could be so stupid to miss that board :s*
*looks ashamed*
*decides to just blame it on the tinyness of the Google G1 screen*

*walks off, still looking very ashamed*

The rules are strict for very good reasons. I'd like them to remain that way.

But that is me.

Hello Kittens-

I agree Tim. There is pain here in these old posts, but there is the beginning of healing too. Let us keep them the way they were started.
