I saw the latest snarky TWOP banner ad. Whatever. The bottom line is, we've won. Didn't Jane Espenson say that people always say they'll stop watching, but the numbers stay the same?

Not this time. Game over.

but what forums did that ad run on?

The ads run across the Board, so every forum sees them There have been several CSI, ER, etc fans who have posted saying they've no idea what it's all about because they don't watch Buffy but that it has been quite amusing to sit back & watch.

And if they go ahead with their plans, apparently there's going to be four Firefly ads next month!

Are these people getting a bulk discount or something?

Whatever. Funny thing is - we are over it. In fact, most of us are over watching the show.

I don't think you can equate the two, that's a huge leap to make.

*** um - yes well - would you consider it - not so huge - if you happened to some how know - that this particular individual (among others) had been pointed to the ads prior?

To the question of could Amber be hurt by a tie in to a fan ad for the character she played being brought back - well the only one of the 3 ads that I saw her picture on - was the first

which I thought a tribute ad - IMO - I'd say the answer to that is would help not hurt - this is pilot season - and having a buzz going on now - that there is a built in fandom clamoring for a star to be back on screen - seems rather a plus for someone looking to cast a pilot with actors whose name carries weight/with a built in audience following - and given that Amber was late to a guest spot for a book store opening because she was called to audition for a pilot, I'd say her career is fine

RE: the Trend the W/T ad started - OZ advertised itself as has farescape and a host of other shows who have been publicizing themselves now on a daily basis via that forum banner ad placement - and we are not just talking just fan ads here. - hollyweird has taken note of a cheap way to push their product and jumped on it

and as for todays um Ad - well when I saw it - my first thought was - hey the phobes must have taken a beating and are trying to cover their asses/hurt egos and are walking away grumbling to themselves

cuz honestly - thats a defensive ad - they know they've painted themselves as/into the phobes/bullys corner in the halls of public opinion - what asswipes - jezz

I think it's unfair to assume that the people responsible for today's or the previous "get over it" ad are uniformly homophobic; in my mind, that's dangerously similar to someone from the "other side" consistently referring to us as "the crazy hysterical lesbians." As I had hoped to point out by sharing the email I received from the TWoPper, some folks over there jumping into the ad debate might not even really watch Buffy or know a whole lot about the character of Tara at all, but started in on the ruckus just to exercise their snark, so to speak. Yeah, it's completely rude, but I do think it's possible to be an asshole without automatically also being homophobic. Also, I never followed the Buffy forum over there, so I can't comment on the "feel" of that group in particular, but my sense from having fairly regularly followed a variety of recaps and the Pixel Challenges at the site is that overall, the TWoP community is generally pretty gay-friendly. (Not as gay-friendly as the Kitten, of course, but then, who is? :bigkiss ;)

Just sayin'. *shrug* Your mileage may vary.

Oooo Autumn/Xita. Xita we're a slash and we didn't even know it!

In answer to the question no. I still think it is an assumption. I still think it is the same as spin. And now it comes across as hearsay spin to me. I'm interested in facts. That's just the way I am. I've seen enough what harm assumptions do and how often they are incorrect.

We're a bit busy these days, the bint and I. Though my head is in such a blur this week that I can hardly remember what it is that we're up to. But when I close my eyes I see... someone lashed to a mast.

Still, Autumn/Xita... there's a slash I can get behind. Autumn/Xita/Julia. See? :lol

*spanks that slash's ass*

Spank me, I'm Julia.

I tried to stay away, but sometimes I can't take my own advice. I'm also Quentin at Twop, though I don't frequent it much anymore, I posted this comment:

"I just wanted to express my disappointment about the "Tara is dead" ad which was disrespectful of another fan group's opinions and which also has the word "dead" in the context of a rainbow referring to gay pride. I know TWOP is about snark, but I thought it was not about ridiculing other groups of fans.

On another note, tonight's X-files ad looks great."

While I didn't completely agree with the original Tara ad, I respected their right to have their campaign. 2trew, I don't like the attack ads either; they're basically insulting a group of fans (and now posters) under the guise of "humor." But I suppose it's okay as long as they pay money for it. I'll do what xita suggested and just ignore them from now on; they're not worth it.

Yeah the response banners have been disgusting. And you have to wonder what TWOP would consider not running. Money isn't worth that.

I just keep laughing at their vehemeth. They tell W/T fans to get over it when they can't get over the fact that the first Ad banner dare to criticize their god :joss .

I think the person in charge of the banners has said no more 'get over it' ads.

The new one is for the premiere of Queer As Folk. I don't quite get if it's sarky or not :confused , but I definately agree with the sentiment of the first line, if it was aimed at a certain other show ;)

I do read TWoP, but generally only a couple of threads: Quality Control & The Deep Bitterness Society (bitterness about other fans' opinions NOT allowed) - that's a great thread hehe
