Here's a reply I got to an email to SciFi:

Quote:
Dear Tabitha,

I can now confirm that Sci-Fi will be showing "Firefly", and that the show will appear in our May schedule. I can also confirm that we shall be airing the 3 previously unaired episodes that did not air in the States. This will make the number of episodes in the series 15.

As expected, SciFi picked up Firefly to air the existing eps but turned down continuing the series. I plan to give it a miss yet again.

I encourage people to go visit the firefly message boards as prospero. They have become a massive far right wing whining section about the war.

Fun huh?

Thats the hard core kids for Firefly..

Sci-Fi UK gets it, will air Firefly episodes in correct order.

No wonder Joss likes the Brits. According to sources at Sci-Fi Channel UK, the network will air episodes of 'Firefly' in the correct order to the delight of many devoted fans beginning with the original two hour pilot, 'Serenity,' instead of 'The Train Job,' which aired on FOX in the USA.

Furthermore, subsequent episodes of the series will also air in the correct order.

Don't worry, the feeling isn't mutual. Plus, the Scifi channel isn't exactly mainstream, and a lot of the real scifi fans won't watch that channel because of what happened to Farscape.

According to AICN, Firefly is making it to DVD in widescreen. I would imagine that the number of people who buy this is the number of die-hard sycophants ME have left.

Tragically, I know one person who would shell out his hard-earned moolah for this kind of tripe: my brother, who is still totally convinced that "Fruitfly" was THE best new show of this season, and that it wasn't given a chance to succeed by the "evil Network", and all that crappola.

That said, I don't even talk to 'M' about my grievances about BtVS with regards to W/T anymore because he just won't get it. And that kinda ticks me off since I was the one who encouraged him to become a hardcore BtVS fan in the first place with my monthly mailing of videotaped episodes off of the Space Channel, all because I sincerely believed that Joss Whedon was a artistic visionary based on what he'd shown with W/T up to that point.

Instead, all I've done is give Mister Whedon another sycophant who's mistaken misogynist hackwork as "misunderstood genius". And that is something I will remain ashamed of. I only hope 'M' will eventually come to his senses as I have.

New series vs. Last season's time slot average

12. "Firefly" - down 26.70%
Maybe Fox should have kept "The Lone Gunmen".

I think this speaks for itself. Joss ditched Buffy/Angel for Firefly and then it bombed. Now Buffy and Angel are going down the pan. Serves him right for being so arrogant.

JW was whining in USA Today about Firefly again, talking about how ,"Hurt" he is by the whole experience and his determination to bring it back in some form. He then praises Gina Torres and Nathan Fillion for their work on those other shows of his. You know the once great cult favorite that's ending , and the other that's wheezing it's last on the WB. Did Stepehn Bochco ever carry on like this, or Dick Wolf or any other producer of note? Sorry I didn't bring it home with me, can't find it on the USA Today site. It's by Robert Bianco I think he typed it with his brown nose.

Joss is really burning his bridges with Fox with all this drivel about Firefly. He has one year on his contract with them and I wouldn't be suprised of Fox ddoesn't renew his contract. He's had 2 shows fail this season with one on the way.

How hurt he is by the whole experience? Yeah, I can relate. Pretty much sums up my feelings towards Joss, ME and BTVS.

What part of Hollywood does Joss not understand? You get a show, it's given time to make an impression, if your ratings start inching north, your given more time to grow an audience..If however you put your show on and the ratings consistently go south, you are cancelled.. It has nothing to do with how much they like you, it's about the money and the ratings. And don't whine that Friday was an unfair time slot. CSI first began on Friday nights and it's ratings took off. Hell, Dark Angel did much better than Firefly..The truth of the matter is that a $10 million episode of Firefly couldn't even beat America's Funniest Home Videos...

Firefly failed because not enough people wanted to watch. If he hadn't treated Buffy fans so crappily a lot more might have watched and bought him time to fix the myriad problems with the show; though that maybe a 'counterfactual' too far...

Apparently, the Firefly article is only in the print edition and not available online. However, LJC and Moose provided a transcript at Fireflyfans.net:

Subject: Firefly DVD out by December?

In the USA Today Print Edition, there's a short article that mentions the Firefly DVDs being out in December.

Quote:
Bright possibilities for Whedon's "Firefly"

-Robert Bianco

Firefly may be grounded, but it's not quite ready to be scrapped.

Created by Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), this Western-in-space spectacular was cancelled by Fox this winter after a mere half-season's run. Whedon, however, remains committed to the show's possibilities - and hurt by its quick demise.

"I still haven't given up on Firefly," he says, "which may seem strange since it's been off the air for months. If I can find a new home for Firefly, TV or movies or any damn thing, it will soften the blow."

While he works for a revival, he at least has found a temporary home for two of the show's stars. Gina Torres, who was Firefly's first mate, has begun a run on WB's Angel as the show's "big bad," Jasmine. And Nathan Fillion, who played the captain, starts a five-episode guest stint Tuesday on UPS's Buffy. He plays Caleb, a cleric servant of "The First."

"They're very different roles," Whedon says. "Gina gets to be all pretty, so she's happy. And Nathan gets to be evil, so he's having a ball."

Whedon also may have found a home for Firefly on DVD. Fox is planning to realise the show on disc in widescreen format, probably in December. Whedon is expected to provide commentary as he did for Buffy and Angel.

I could be wrong but I have a feeling that Firefly will never fly again. The cast has scatttered to the 4 winds and moved on to new project. Without havgin them on contract, it will cost more to reunite them for a movie. However, I'm happy to see Joss waste the rest of the year on his development deal on Fireshit.

Here's something interesting from Heidi over at Alligator Point Bar & Grill website.

During filming of Alligator Point, a fan named Bob asked Nathan Fillion about the chances of him returning to Firefly. This is what happened:

Quote:
Bob: So here I am leaning over the rail, basically everybody seated except Nathan and I, so I went in for what I really wanted to know. I leaned over and this is what happened.

Bob: "So do we have a chance in hell to have this show back?"

Nathan: "What they're really concentrating on now is a movie."

Bob: "Would this be a made-for-tv movie?"

Nathan: "Nope, a big budget silver screen production!!"

Bob: "That would so cool, I would be the first in line."

Nathan: "Thanks for supporting Firefly."

I would say you've got a better shot at watching me give birth on live TV then you have at ever seeing a Firefly movie..:spin

Y'know, the fact that Joss would be trying to get a movie going on a series that bombed so badly on TV just shows how much Firefly really meant to him..It must be really hard to lose something you loved so much. Really sucks, huh, Joss.

Is Joss vidnictive?

Postby sam7777 » Wed Apr 30, 2003 5:20 pm

I ran across this artcile about "Angel" and "Dark Angel" from 2001 and it described how Joss was pissed that Fox aired Dark Angel at the same time as Angel and lowered Angel's ratings. I'll bet that displacing Dark Angel for Fireshit in 2003 was Joss' payback. However, Joss lost in the end as Fireshit was also cancelled:

Angels on the Outs

Tuesday, April 3, 2001

More Insider:MONDAYTUESDAYWEDNESDAYTHURSDAYFRIDAY

Joss Whedon — creator and executive producer of the WB's Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel — has a bone to pick with 20th Century Fox, the studio behind Angel as well as the freshman smash Dark Angel. Fox's decision to pit Dark's sci-fi siren Jessica Alba against vampire sire David Boreanaz on Tuesday nights has resulted in a steep ratings decline for the Buffy spinoff, and Whedon's out for blood.

"The fact that they put [Dark Angel] on opposite a show that they produce, thereby hurting it, shows that they really don't care," Whedon tells TV Guide Online. "Their big picture is clearly so big that whatever I think and whatever I am doing doesn't matter, and I resent that. But I am not the 'Big Picture Guy.' I'm just making my shows."

Marc Berman, TV analyst for Mediaweek, feels Whedon's pain, calling Fox's scheduling of Dark Angel "one of the less logical moves last fall." In fact, he believes that both shows are suffering. "Although Dark Angel has carved a comfortable niche for itself, had Angel not been in the competitive mix, Dark Angel's ratings might even be stronger. By splitting the young adult audience, Angel is down and Dark Angel is probably not the real hit it should be."

Despite his frustration, Whedon insists that he has not asked Fox to move Dark Angel to another night next fall. "I don't deal with that," he says. "I have no control over that. I am not someone that can say, 'Work your schedule.'

"Ultimately I am not going to ask them to do anything," he adds. "As long as I get to make my shows, the people who want to watch them will."

Adding another wrinkle to the debate — not to mention Whedon's forehead — is Alba's so-called alias. "I watch [Dark Angel], and her name is not 'Angel,' and she's not an angel, so why the [expletive] would they call it that?" he seethes. A 20th Century rep was unavailable for comment.

Female foes notwithstanding, Whedon points out that the "basic core [of Angel's audience] has stayed there." But another menace looms: If 20th Century makes good on its threat to relocate Buffy to another network (it's currently embroiled in heated renewal talks with the WB), Angel could lose its cushy lead-in. Whedon isn't alarmed, though. Assures the auteur: "I believe Angel's audience will [stick with us] wherever Buffy is."
Since Angel is ahving it's lowest ratings ever, it doesn't look to me as if their audeince is sticking with them.

Seeing how the last Star Trek movie was a bomb,I find it a little hard to believe that Universal would invest money for a sci-fi movie based on a TV show that barely survived half a season....Like I said before, I think you've got a better shot at watching me give birth on live TV...

Could be wrong, they DO make stupid movies in Hollywood..This one might rank up there with Jackass-the Movie...

And by a completely different studio than the one who owns the rights...

Oh yes, can you just see it? Universal is gonna fork out money to Fox so that they can make a big-screen movie of a failed TV show who doesn't have a big-name star, not even stars that would rank as B-list or C-list in movieland. Being married to Laurence Fishburne doesn't count, neither does having a okay-famous last name (but with no relation to the actual okay-famous family). Yes, Universal, a studio who doesn't have any ties whatsoever with :joss is willing to give him a shot at a multi-million dollar movie...

How much more pathetic and deluded can the Fireshit fans get?

John Doe cancelled

Postby sam7777 » Thu May 08, 2003 2:51 pm

John Does was the only good thing on Fox Fridays this season IMHO.

www.thefutoncritic.com/cg...re&id=5931

Quote:
CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) - "John Doe's" search for the truth is over. A source close to the FOX series has informed us the network will not renew the series for a second season. The producers of the drama were informed yesterday about the news.

The news comes as no surprise after recent reports had the network's support shifting from "Doe" to "Fastlane." FOX executives had repeatedly stated they hoped to keep one of the two dramas for next season as part of a new Thursday or Friday lineup.

After debuting to an impressive 9.8 million viewers in September of last year, "Doe's" audience dropped more than 40% by its finale last month (5.8 million viewers). Among adults 18-49 the erosion was even more noticeable (4.3 vs. 2.4 average rating for the hour) as the series routinely finished third in its time slot among the four major networks.

FOX announces its fall schedule next Thursday.
