Yeah, TKIM is kinda lame once you get round the whole greatness which is Aly's acting (is it me or does Aly not seem to have her heart in it this season? Is this excellent acting showing Willow's grief on a subtle level, or Aly's own feelings about the season?).
It is sad that so far the only mentions of Tara have been in negative terms. Sadness and an attempt to make Willow commit suicide. Why can't we see a piccie of Willow and Tara in Willow's room, and certainly I agree that Dawn should have one. It just beggars belief that a character who's death nearly triggered the end of the world in retribution (still a lame ending, IMHO) hasn't been treated better by the writers. Is this their way of sticking 2 fingers up at Amber for daring to turn them down, thus spoiling their precious vision?
For the record, I am aware that one day, Willow will find someone else. She shouldn't have to because she should still be with Tara, but let us deal with the situation as Season 7 gives us.
Willow has lost her soulmate, nearly destroyed the world in revenge, and is carted of to England by Giles to help her. So we begin season 7 with Willow upset and the rest of the Scoobies not giving a toss. Tara becomes like cancer (a word you dare not say for fear of bad things happening) and doesn't get mentioned until the dismally short grave scene in "Help". The writers then decide to bring Tara back, not as a force of good, to give comfort to her grieving girlfriend, but as an apperition, an illusion of the FE to try and get Willow to either give up magic or kill herself. Amber's refusal (which will forever hold her in high esteem in my eyes) meant a change of tact but the same message was delivered.
Then come TKIM, after we have met the "get it anywhere I can" girl, JFK. She is nothing but a blatent attempt to win back the "Gay audience" as if it were only Gay people who were angry at the way Tara's death and memory have been handled. Aly Hannigan in a pre-season interview said that she felt Willow should be left alone in season 7 to properly grieve and re-build. Obviously, Joss and ME were having none of that. In TKIM we are left to believe that all that Wilow needs to do to be happy is get rid of Tara and "move on".
So why do I mention all of the above, when it is blatently obvious to all here. I mention it because in the light of these facts (and they are facts, let's be honest) I cannot understand the comments of Mr Greenberg. If anyone has reduced Tara to merely her sexuality, ignoring the unique and wonderful person she was, it is ME. Their actions speak far louder than words and I think that when all is said and done they will rue the day that they made a mockery out of decent people's intelligence and emotions.
One small point, someone mentioned that Tara's spirit appearing to bring comfort to Willow would be a good idea, I agree but I would go further than that. The whole point of the FE is it's ability to manipulate using images of deceased loved ones, but where are the spirits of the loved ones themselves, alowed to visit by the PTB, to bring comfort and resolution to the Scoobies. Where is Tara giving Willow the strength to trust herself and her power? Where is Jenny Calender giving Giles abuse for the way he has treated Buffy and reminding him of his responsibilities? Where is Joyce giving motherly advice to Buffy and Dawn (indeed all the Scoobies) in this dark time? Wouldn't that be at least logical in this season, or has even this most basic logic gone?
will be soon forgottten. It's just about the sex which is yet another stereotpye of gay people. It's not a relationship, it ME's little pander to the gay media but it's not working. Even articles that decry the cliche do not praise nw/nssk. Willow/Tara were special and a real relationship for 2.5 years until it ended in the Lesbian cliche. nw/nssk is simply "girl on girl" action to pander to the gay press and the purient interests of their male fans (ala Tatu).
