Lovely new ad, thanks for sharing :) ! Regardless on what effect it has on ME, the message perfectly makes clear the W&T fans won't forget. Also Web Warlock I'm sorry to hear about your server being attacked, and I agree suing them would be "just desserts" (perfect recourse).

"who was tara?"

Postby drlloyd11 » Mon Feb 24, 2003 8:24 am

This post from another board

"Who was Tara McClay?

In the Daily Mail which is a UK national paper, there is a section called "Answers to correspondents". Readers can write in with any question they want an answer to and the paper publishes the answers that they receive. One of this mornings questions is as follows:

"At our library, people using the internet often call up pages saying "we will never forget Tara McClay". Who was she?"

If anyone wishes to send an answer to the paper they can email it to charles.legge@dailymail.co.uk.

Just fyi, the Daily Mail is probably the most conservative and narrow minded paper in Britain (written by, and for, increasingly elderly middle class people). My parents have been getting it for as long as I can remember, and I'm regularly pissed off by some of the letters and articles they publish.

As for the TWOP thing (which my ad blocker happily removes so I never going to see it), do we know if it's from one of the people connected to the site or not? I just find it hard to believe that people would spend $100 to be spiteful dicks.

These guys are idiots. Did you notice that they didn't specify BUFFY in their ad. That means everybody in the other TV threads (95% of the TWoP) will be asking "who is tara?" Necessitating explanations from helpful Tara lovers who'lll explain (a) who is Tara (b) how she died (c) why people are mad. What idiots.

I'm currently in the process of writing GLAAD to bring this to their attention. It's one thing to be anti-Tara but the fact that they used rainbow colours for "DEAD" constitutes homophobic speech, to me.

It's probably a group of people who still love Buffy and Joss and probably blame the W/T fans for the drastic plunge in ratings that the show has taken this season..The original banner was a message to ME on how to get back those fans(which they obviously don't care enough to want to do) who had quit watching because of W/T. This is a banner whose aim is to tick off the people whom they blame for the ratings drop...don't let them anger you, let them motivate you and keep sending your letters to ME,UPN, GLAAD, etc.

Sadly Joss Whedon, who courted the gay community with his Willow/Tara story line on Buffy has empowered a backlash against the gay community with his killing of Tara and turning willow evil.

This ad is just another example of the hate his story has fueled - he's given phobes cover to bash gays

thanks for the addys - I've written GLAAD about this Ad - I hope others do the same.

and if anyone can find the opportunity - I suggest calling UPN and ME's offices and complaining

Re: "who was tara?"

From the moment Tara appeared onscreen there have been people who made no secret of their hatred towards her. That is part of the reason this board was created. Clearly they have not stopped watching the show eventhough Mr Whedon once asked them kindly to do so. We all know who his storyline pleased in the end and he can be proud of himself for giving them what they wanted and not what they needed. Whatever. This board is a safe haven for WT and WT fans, it is not a place to fight outside battles. Please do not bring the outside negativity that we all know exists here. Don't link other boards. People know the way if they want to go there.

Take a moment to consider

Postby kpmuse » Mon Feb 24, 2003 11:18 am

Stunts like this take the focus off of the fact that fans over at TWOP and many other places are pissed off at the horrible downturn that the show has taken and at Joss himself. They are looking for a target other than Joss and the Buffy team. Not gonna happen :no

It feels to me like people are getting their anger, frustration and boredom out by targeting the ads and the backlash over Tara's death because hey, all good "Joss ass lickers" can't criticize their beloved Joss now can they?

Enjoy your brilliant Jossie who really couldn't care less about his loving fans and his trail of canceled shows :wave

Just food for thought, cause damn this helped me.

kp - yah whenever folks start bashing w/t fans I just point to the numbers

7.7 million tuned in Oct. 2001 to see Buffy opener on UPN

4 months later

5.2 million were left by Feb. 2002 when whedon had made Willow an addict and buffy a tramp "doing mr evil"

6 months later

4.1 million were still watching by April 2002 when whedon aired Buffy's rape and Tara's murder

16 months later - half the audience has disappeared!

3.5 million left by Feb. 4th, 2003 by which time the scoobies were all pathetic killers, tramps, attempted rapists, druggies etc etc

kind of says it all doesn't it

I'm so happy. Guys, we're making them spend hundreds of dollars to try to hurt us. That means they think we have power they have to counteract.

Every single thing anyone does to quash us, just remember, somewhere, deep in the back of their minds they're thinking..."The Kittens might have a point...they might have a point...Sweet, Merciful Heaven, they might have a point! We have to make sure no one listens to them, and quickly!"

Be not sad, my fellow kittens. If we were really making the asses of ourselves they say we are and want to dismiss us...they wouldn't need to do this.

We're winning. :clap

Exactly.

While I thought the "spander" ad was funny, even it was a light-hearted jab at us, but hey we have a sense of humor here. We would went with "tander" (Tito/Xander) but apples and oranges...

But this latest one is mean spirited and offensive in the extreme.

And it goes to show how much power we still have over this whole deal.

I have pointed it out and so has HIP. Buffy's numbers suck.

I don't care why, I just want them to continue to suck and get worse and history will record that Buffy went down hill after Tara was killed. People will gloss over the details.

I am up for a "I am glad FireFly is dead. Get over it" ad myself.

Or maybe a "One down. Two to go" one.

I'd actually like to see a banner with Joss' quote from the Onion..Then it could be pointed out that he might have had a clue what he was going to reap when he sowed the seeds of Tara's destruction and he's got no one to blame but himself..That's one hell of a price to pay for ''your shirt''

Kendahl897

Re: "who was tara?"

Postby helpful information perha » Mon Feb 24, 2003 2:51 pm

yah - for Joss to put his "your shirt" vision on screen does seem to be costing him "the shirt off his back" -

His shows be they on FOX/UPN/WB all seem to draw about a 5 share of the potential audience at best - 95% of tv viewers don't buy his brand of storytelling - so when you've already cut out 95% of the potential tv sets you should pay heed to the 5% who do watch - and he slamed the door in the face of a large chunk of that 5%

fans who would have watched FF if W/T were going strong boycotted the show - this year is it for buffy, gellar isn't coming back and the show is going out on the bottom of the ratings heap - and the WB has Angel on the fence so it may not come back (heck its doing worse in the ratings than buffy) - whedons cult fandom had a large gay, gay friendly and feminist block that walked out on his shows - half his audience for buffy has left in less than a year and a half

Someone somewhere should buy a clue

Whedon's so passe - were over him now

Actually, HIP, for Buffy, the share is 4. For Angel, it usually runs about 3. Only the overnight shares make it to 5, the national drops every time...

I've been reading their general (boardwide) Banner Discussion thread over there, and quite a few people have posted about it, saying that although they may not have liked the original 'Tara' banners, they didn't like the tone of this one.

They felt that the 'Spander' one was more of a parody, whilst this is actually getting at a specific group of fans, which they felt was mean.
