WebWarlock, you are a God. I don't know how much notice these guys will take if I send them postcards with an English postmark on, but what the hey...

Edited to add: they are such great cards! I love the pictures. Damn it was so good to see her on the credits. Damn them for doing this in Seeing Red!

Thanks Tim! As the ratings tank, it's always a good idea to let them know why. Marti said they are still paying for that one (DoT). Let's show them the payment is still due.

Thanks,

But the best way to thank me is to make sure that the next few episodes of Buffy are the lowest rated ones ever. Nothing would make me happier in this sorry affair.

So find those last few people watching Buffy that are Nielsen families and get them to stop. Ask around, say it is for a stats project or anything.

I got another Nielsen person last night! Ok, he does the diaries so that will only effect the nationals and not the overnights.

Here is a new banner I am putting on my site now.

What do you think? You have my permission to take this and put it anywhere you want.

Hello Kittens

For the next round of postcards I have several questions:

Who is the poor sod stuck with selling the BtVS syndication and what is their address?

What is the address for CBS's Moonves?

Is Dawn Ostroff still in at UPN?

What is the address for ME's Christopher Buchanan? There are two ME addresses in this string.

Is it worth the time to send Ms. Noxon a post card?

Thank you all for your time and patience,

Yes, I hope the ratings for 13 and 14 are the worst ever because these are supposed to be the big W/:puke ones. I am not a Nielson household, so I will probably see if I want to keep watching or change the channel to Gilmore Girls. I will probably be watching Gilmore Girls. *Sigh* I am hoping for some good news that shows W/:puke won't last long.

SFX reader awards

Postby tyche » Fri Jan 31, 2003 11:06 am

I've also posted this in the 'vote for the girls' thread on the main board, but I thought this might be a good place for it too. If you're voting by email, maybe it would be an idea to copy your email to the UPN addresses.

SFX magazine are collecting votes again for their annual reader awards. Amber and Aly both did well last year, and it would send a hell of a message if Amber did really well in the 'best TV actress' category, and if Tara's death got voted the worst thing to happen in SF/Fantasy in 2002.

The categories are as listed below. You don't have to vote in every category, and you can vote by email, so long as you give your full name. The email address to send your votes to is

sfx@futurenet.co.uk

(Please include your full name with all email votes - please also note that they have specifically requested people not to block vote this year.)

You can also vote by post on the voting form which can be found in the current issue of SFX.

Oh, and they mentioned that you can vote for 'Firefly' in the TV category. ;)

(btw, is Amber's film 'Taboo' a horror film? Because if so, we could also vote for her in the film actress category. And we can vote for the W/T comics too.)

Films

Best SF or fantasy film

Best SF or fantasy film actress

Best SF or fantasy film actor

Best SF or fantasy film director

Best SF or fantasy film music

Worst SF or fantasy film

TV

Best SF or fantasy TV show

Best episode of an SF or fantasy TV show

Best actress in an SF or fantasy TV show

Best actor in an SF or fantasy TV show

Most improved SF or fantasy TV show

Best new SF or fantasy TV show

Worst SF or fantasy TV show

Books

Best SF or fantasy novel (film/TV tie-ins are NOT eligible in this category)

Best SF or fantasy TV or film tie-in novel

Best SF or fantasy-related non-fiction book

Best SF or fantasy author

Others

Best SF or fantasy comic book

Best SF or fantasy computer/console game

Best SF or fantasy fanzine

Sexiest woman in SF and fantasy

Sexiest man in SF and fantasy

Funniest person in SF and fantasy

Worst dressed person in SF and fantasy

Worst thing to happen in SF and fantasy in 2002

Best thing to happen in SF and fantasy in 2002

The 'Minority Report' award for the person who should be stopped from committing future crimes

Who would you use as the genetic blueprint for your clone army?

That's it. Happy voting, Kittens!

something you might find interesting....or not

Postby fontaine13 » Fri Jan 31, 2003 5:39 pm

OK I should preface this by saying that on most days I'll tell you that sending e-mails or postcards to ME/Fox or whoever is pretty much a complete waste of time as this point. The damage is done and if you let the ratings speak for themselves Buffy it pretty much done. However after having read some of the latest spoilers I got aggro enough to send some e-mails from Tim's site. While most of them either bounced back or I rec'd notice that at least one of them was deleted apparently without being read, I did get one or two replies from Fox affilates all saying the same things. In any case I thought I would share one reply with you all :-

Quote:
In response to your request we are an independently owned affiliate of the FOX network, thus the only Buffy: The Vampire Slayer we currently air is the syndicated version. Meaning, if you notice, that all the episodes that we are showing are repeats aired in the order specified by 20th Television. We have neither control nor input into the show’s production or distribution beyond saying yea or nay as to airing the show.

Now having said that, and having enjoyed the series myself, may I suggest that you contact the UPN network (the current supplier of first-run Buffy), 20th Television (the syndicator for Buffy), WCTI-TV 12 (the current UPN affiation holder in New Bern), and the producers of the show. In all honesty, you’ll have a better shot at making something work with any of the above than with the local FOX affiliate. I’m sure that all of the above have contact points on the internet. And I wish you the best of luck with your efforts.

I used the www.anemptyspace.org

pull down menu's

I changed the letter up a bit from the one thats on the pulldown

I got a variety of responses a couple of which noted they had gotten many complaints about buffy

(not just about tara's death either)

and FYI - UPN has to sign up its affiliate stations/station groups

when those affiliates are getting neg feedback on what UPN is giving them to air they bark up the ladder

examples of responses include:

Dear ---

I am sorry that you have had to change the channel from a program you once enjoyed watching. Unfortunately, we are only an affiliate of UPN and do not have any control over the content of their programs. UPN has not branded themselves as a "family-oriented network". The programming we carry on UPN contains shows such as WWE Smackdown, Enterprise, Jerry Springer, Ricki Lake, and Blind Date. A lot of these programs are not intended for children.

I understand completely why you would not want your children to see such violent content, as you mentioned is shown in "Buffy". I would never want any of our viewers to turn from our channel, however, in this case it is probably best. Hopefully you will be able to find another program that is suitable for "family viewing". I appreciate your comments and concerns, and hope that you can find a new "family-friendly" show to watch. Thank you for writing.

Ummm... with Buffy now officially cancelled and Alyson Hannigan all but confirmed as not being involved with a spinoff, what is there left to advocate? Haven't we pretty much gotten what we were after?

Yes, there's still Angel hanging in the balance, but going after it deliberately seems more spiteful than anything else. I'd rather just let it take its chances on its own.

Re: Fuel

Postby helpful information perha » Tue Mar 04, 2003 8:14 pm

yes buffy is canceled but whedon is still talking spin off - and drlloyds sources may be correct - but I haven't seen a official confirmation that hannigan has been asked let alone turned down a spin off - her words were to the effect that it would depend on what it was and how much whedon was involved correct - the FOX lawsuit against UPN could be a bargaining ploy to help push UPN into picking up FOX (FOX/ME) product for UPN's development slate - which could include keeping a slot for a buffy spin off (esp mid season) - so I don't see a down side to continued postings to UPN/FOX/ME

besides - WW's email pull downs are for UPN and FOX -- if people were trying to effect angels demise they would have to be writing the WB and its affiliates - not UPN and its station grps

Hey, just trying to do what I can.

Use of the email buttons are up. I think right now would be a great time to send another round. Remind them that this was Buffy's worst Feb sweeps ever. Remind them why you are not watching AND that you wont be watching a spin off.

I am not trying to show the world the emperor has no clothes (Bob already did a good job of that) I am trying to bring down an empire.

Just letting them know

Postby jixer » Mon Apr 07, 2003 6:34 pm

Hello Kittens-

I'm sending the message below to Fox using WW's Fox link on the web page mentioned earlier in this forum.

Subject Heading: Still Life

Dear Sir/Madame,

I am a fan of the science fiction/fantasy and horror genres but I will not watch Still Life. Ms. Noxon's treatment of Willow and Tara on Buffy the Vampire Slayer has made me unwilling to give any series she is connected with any of my time.

Sincerely,

Name

E-mail address

Will it have any effect? Not now, but in the future when the post mortum is being done on what went wrong with Fox's new series perhaps it will be recognized as an indicator.

Thank you for your time,

Ok,

The RenewAngel people are using postcards and emails.

I am tempted to say DON'T send any postcards. All they will do is count them and really, postcards mean very little.

Call them.

There is a nice receptionist at (818) 977-5000. Tell her you want to leave a message on the view opinion line, but it is full. Be sure to tell her that you don't want to see Angel back on the air next season.

Failing that here is a fax number (818) 977-6771.

And an email address, standard@talk.thewb.com.

Sam: Thanks, also try standard@thewb.com.

Have fun.
