Ah, all caught up now. And I'm bloody glad I did. I'm still thinking about a nice wet Willow. Yum. ;)

Wonderful as always rane. I'm telling you, all this wonderful Willow and Tara goodness is soulfood. There's such an innocence about their love, it's so pure and perfect, just as it should be. And you write it so well. Thanks, love. :)

Rane,

I'm right there with you. I'm still not over what happened, and I probably won't be. I'm going to watch next season, cause I can't just not watch with Willow still being on the show. Plus, I'm still holding on to that chance of hope, so I'm going to see it through. I'm very interested to see who this person is, that we already know, that's supposed to get close to Willow next season. I'm still thinking it's going to be Amber as someone else. I don't know. I'll never forgive Joss or ME for this mess. Grrr..:mad JERKS!!

Sorry... my rant is over now.

Update later?? WOO HOO!!! :bounce :bounce I'm looking forward to it, very much. :grin

katydid! you must have posted when i was posting. sorry to not have replied to you! tara is certainly yummy in that ep... that scene with willow outside the magick box... she is soooo cute!!!! argh! i'm sorta in love with a fake character! hehe...

Jen- no worries, honey. i dont know where it was posted so i cant say much about it. i'm usually a spoiler ho but after going through what i went through last season i'd rather just not have any hope and be pleasantly surprised if anything good ever happens. i'll stick to reading fanfic til then. lol.

toni- you snuck up while i was writing! hehe... i luv ya too.

**************************

ok, so i'm not 100% satisfied with this but it's a filler part so... anyhoo... onwards kittens... oh and madeinnz sorry about the lack of fireworks. my muse skipped ahead....

****************

“Ok, there are, like, bears and mountain lions out here! You expect us to sleep out in the open? Wide open? We can be attacked any minute!” Jenn groaned as she set her sleeping bag down over one of the two blue tarpaulin set down in the middle of the camping ground.

Buffy, in the process of helping another one of her campers named Skylar do the same, couldn’t help but sigh. “Don’t worry, the fire will keep them away.” She announced as she noticed the poison ivy marks on her arms had cleared up.

She’d gotten the uncomfortable itching, swelling, redness from yesterday’s bout with poison ivy but her quick Slayer recuperation healed the ensuing blisters in a jiffy. She was allowed to accompany her group on their outward bound which was a very good thing because even though they had a forest ranger and two extra staff members with them she certainly wanted to protect them all in the foresty wilderness.

“Actually,” Jamie easily mentioned as she walked by them, “the fire attracts them. New scent and all.” Once she reached her overnight bag, she reached in and grabbed the herbal mosquito repellent she’d brought with her. She proceeded to apply it all over her exposed skin, even spritzed it around her sleeping bag.

Buffy rolled her eyes... shook her head... groaned, “Ja-mie.” The young camper sometimes felt like a little sister, an annoying little sister that tended to say the wrong things at the wrong time and not realize it. Buffy was so happy she didn’t have one, she’d go crazy.

Audra, another cabin number seven camper, wrapped her arms tight across her upper body, “I heard that.” she said as her eyes tensely scanned around the grounds.

After having spent all day walking down a mountainous gorge, the same group from yesterday’s ill-fated hike finally reached the rustic campgrounds below for their overnight. As twilight advanced and ruby red light descended over the clearing, both sets of groups were busy setting up for the evening.

“Trust me, nobody will get hurt. I promise.” Buffy spoke in her weighty Slayery tone. She looked at each and every one of her campers when she said that. Eye contact was very important when trying to reassure them.

Skylar chuckled nervously at her counselors’ assertion, “Cause you’re Wonder Woman, right? You can fight off a bear.”

“I have…” Buffy began to retort but stopped. She couldn’t tell her campers that story now could she? She couldn’t tell them about last year’s Thanksgiving dinner fiasco when she actually did fight a bear. All right so it was actually a Native American ghost that turned into a bear but still- “Uh, not… No, I can’t fight off a bear but I do know self defense. Just ask Willow.”

She suddenly realized she hadn’t heard or seen Willow since they’d eaten their campfire cooked meal. She searched for her best friend and found her sitting alone by one of the three small fires near the camp ground. The redhead clearly had a distant look on her face. Buffy knew Willow was saddened about something, something big. She’d been really quiet all day and Buffy was afraid it had something to do with Tara. But what? Everything was good the day before.

Kimberly was busy pulling a sweater over her upper body, “Self defense against a bear? Hello?! That thing can whack you in half. Heck, I can whack you in half.” she added not knowing Buffy’s small stature packed quite a wallop.

As Buffy continued to argue with her bunkmates, Jamie finished up her priming and walked over to Willow. She found her absently staring at the steel fire ring that contained the coal burning flames. “Um, your marshmallow is burning.”

Willow jumped out of her reverie and looked towards her stick, “Oh! Yikes.”

As Willow blew the burning poof with deep breaths, she realized how far off her thoughts were. Definitely elsewhere. Clouded with Tara thoughts she couldn’t help but be sullen at the fact Tara hadn’t made it to the fireworks last night. Not that the fireworks were any good. The display had been very, very short of spectacular but what did she expect, Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks?

She knew it would have been hard for the blonde to sneak out before ten o’clock but when she didn’t come to the bonfire either Willow couldn’t help but feel dejected. She’d hoped against hope that Tara would make it and it hurt more than she ever thought when the evening ended without her looking at her love’s face one more time.

She knew Tara would have tried to sneak out but she also knew Tara was fearful of her father finding out. She’d never actually come out and said she was afraid of him but Willow knew. She could tell whenever Tara would speak of him how her tone mutated, it grew small and she tended to stutter. Her body language also changed.

Willow knew he was a stern man, having grown stricter since his wife’s death. Tara blamed it on herself saying it was her fault for having done many crazy things after her mother died. Stuff Willow could never have pictured Tara doing like lying to her father and staying out all night, not letting him know where she was while he worried frantically about her safety.

Willow knew something was askew in that household when she noticed that there were hardly any family photos dispersed around the house. Maybe two or three of her brother, father and Tara, but more importantly none of her mother. Even her own house with her habitually absent parents had pictures everywhere. They were either of Willow alone or photos of her folks from their various yearly business trips. They even had a wall full of family pictures in her father’s den, people Willow hardly knew since family functions were so few and far between. But there were still pictures everywhere.

It wasn’t just the lack of photos though. It was also the fact Tara glossed over much of her house when giving Willow the tour. The redhead couldn’t help but feel the house was… it was lifeless, cold, and Tara knew it. It felt like Tara wanted to shield her from it.

In contrast Tara’s room was a completely different story. The minute she had entered Tara’s space Willow realized what the rest of the house was lacking… love. You could feel the attachment, the warmth, the little peace of heaven Tara had in that attic. It was where her mother had practiced Wicca before her and it was where Tara now secretly practiced her religion. It was her retreat.

“Willow?” Jamie asked.

The redhead hadn’t realized most of the blackened melted marshmallow had now fallen off the end of her stick and onto her sneakers. The goo slowly dripped down to the floor leaving a white trail on her red shoes.

“I’ll get you a napkin,” Jamie said as she ran off towards one of the wooden picnic tables nearby. “Are you ok?” she questioned once she’d reached her counselor again.

“Yeah. Thanks, Jamie. I was just off in my own little world again. Sorry.” Willow replied as she carefully wiped the marshmallow off her shoes. “I sometimes get trance-y like that when I think of stuff.”

“I know exactly what you mean,” Jamie responded as she sat down on the wooden bench next to her, “It gets kinda noisy in my head too sometimes.”

Willow couldn’t help but smile. She lightly nudged her camper, “So-“

“Hey you two!” Buffy yelled out, “Come on! We’re heading over to the big bonfire for some ghost stories.”

***********************

It didn’t take long for all the campers to cozy up to the fire and get comfortable. Snacks were handed out and everyone took turns narrating horror stories. At one point the tales told by the teenagers with unrestrained imaginations were becoming so gory one of Jonathan’s campers couldn’t help but ask, “Can we have cute campfire stories now?”

Tales of deformed wild dogs attacking defenseless people, crazy gun toting widows, and serial killers with no sense of remorse were taking its toll on the scared campers. To ease the fear some of the staff began to tell jokes while others started sing-a-longs.

After about two hours Jenn suddenly stood up. With her blanket still wrapped tightly around her body she spoke, “Ok, I need to pee and there is no way I’m going alone. Who wants to come with me?” All the girls gathered around raised their hands, stood up and followed in a bunch to the portable toilets.

It was decided to call it a night after that.

************************

“Hey, Will, you sleeping?” Buffy asked in a hush tone. She’d spent the last hour listening to the crackling of the dying fires, the snores of some of the campers and the endless nighttime symphony.

“No, you?” Willow chuckled at her own question, “Well, duh.” Of course Buffy wasn’t sleeping, she’d just spoken to her. “What’s up?” She whispered back.

Buffy turned over on her side, elbow propping her head up as she looked towards her best friend lying in the sleeping bag next to her. “I can’t sleep.”

“Why not?”

“I don’t know. What are you doing?” She wondered, watching how Willow remained gazing up at the night sky.

“Staring at The Big Pineapple.”

“Huh?”

“The Big Pineapple. See those three bright stars right there?”

Buffy lay close to Willow, pressing her head against the redheads so that they shared the same line of sight. Her gaze followed the arm up to the expanse of sky above them. “Yeah.”

“And see those stars along there?” She asked pointing out another part of the formation. “That’s the bottom of the pineapple.”

“It’s big.”

“Hence the name. Tara... She, uh, showed it to me the other day.”

Buffy smiled softly. “Cool. Any other funny named constellations?”

Willow grinned, “Yeah.” She was reminded of the fun she and Tara had had while stargazing during their picnic at her house. The stargazing that lead to strip storytelling. The strip storytelling that lead to… Willow sighed blissfully; remembering of the wonderful day she spent worshipping Tara. Worshipping Tara in her sanctuary.

Buffy saw the beautiful grin radiating from the redhead and chuckled quietly. So things were all right with Tara after all. The two friends spent the next couple of hours giggling at the made up constellations, even coming up with some of their own.

*Sigh* It was more than ok, it was very sweet. I beat Willow looks all goofy when she talks about Tara. I liked her telling Buffy about the star constellations and I wonder why Tara wasn't at the fireworks.

This was very nice, Rane. So sad Tara couldn't make it to the fireworks. Willow is so cute...love how all she thinks about is Tara. It's the way it should be. And we all love that Willow-happy grin she gets when you know everything is ok. Sweet to see the two best friends also sharing stargazing moments. They're very cute, too, when Buffy isn't focused on herself.

Thanks for the update, Rane. And I'll continue to read fan fic too. I'm trying not to get my hopes up and stay surprised for whatever happens in season 7. :)

Puff- guess you’ll just have to wait to see what happened with tara, eh? Truth of the matter was I wanted to write her in the fireworks, I wanted them to make out during the fireworks. Hehe. I just didn’t get that inspiration. I cant force myself to write anything so I just flowed with whatever came next. This came next and so I moved on. But I do have a similar scene in mind for the future so have no fear…

Areslei- I’m beginning to think I’m writing willow a bit too involved with tara. I know that’s how most people are and they are in their honeymoon stage but it also helps build a foundation for their story. I’m trying to write buffy like she’s realizing she needs to start paying attention cause she’ll lose willow if she doesn’t.

Toni- tell me about it honey.

Kerry- aw, you’re welcome. Glad you liked it. sorry about the lack of horsies so far. Hehe

Madeinnz- nope, nothing beats the big pineapple.

Jen- willow/tara smoochies? Hmm… I’m not sure. I have some of it charted out so we’ll see. Its not like willow and tara cant be in the same room together and not smooch ya know? Its not like all they do is smooch. Hehe… the do talk too… I like the smoochies as well, don’t worry about it.

Rane,

Don't ever doubt your storytelling again. This is wonderful. Why is Tara MIA? Geez, I hope her father hasn't done a number on her. I'm all worried now. :(

Tara: My heart doesn't stutter.

Tara: Willow, I got so lost.
Willow: I found you. I will always find you.

Willow: Hi, um Tara. I was wondering maybe you want to go out some time for coffee? food? Kisses and gay love?

Postby VampNo12 » Mon Jul 01, 2002 12:13 am

I enjoyed this part Rane! First I must say I am so enjoying Jamie in this story. I loved how she is so nonchalant in saying the fire will actually attract the bears, she is a "mini" Willow (knowledge girl). Also can't help but laugh every time she comes prepared for any given problem/emergency (ie applying mosquito repellent not only on her skin, but sleeping bag as well). Really Jamie's bunk-mates would be wise to get on her good side, because you never know when Jamie's knowledge/supplies will come in handy.

Poor Willow missing her Tara, and I thought it was poignant how she mused Tara's house in general is cold/lifeless. However, Tara's room is a haven, which is the embodiment of Tara's nature (ie filled with love).

Lastly, I liked how Willow shared the star-gazing she learned from Tara (ie the "Big Pineapple"). Here is a chance for Buffy to understand what makes Tara so special to Willow (ie the cute names for the stars), and at the same time bond with her best friend. With this in mind, by sharing with Buffy (about Tara) she is including her friend, and therefore, hopefully Buffy can get over her jealously of feeling left out. Can't wait for the next part!

Postby Rane018 » Mon Jul 01, 2002 6:11 am

Rose- yes, ma’am. No more worrying about the storytelling. It’s just sometimes I get like you kittens and I want a w/t only always update. Hehe, and then here I go writing a non Tara update but hey willow was in it and she was thinking of Tara. Lol. Don’t worry about Tara. She is all right she just couldn’t sneak out. Well, honestly, my muse didn’t feel like writing the fireworks scene so we skipped that part. That’s truly the reason Tara is MIA. Her father, in my head, has never physically hurt Tara or will hurt Tara in this fic. It seemed to me from Family that Donnie was the physically abusive one, her father was more mentally cruel to Tara. But that is just me. Others see things differently but this is how it’ll be for this fic. So no worries.

VN12- yeah I throw Jamie in there for a little Dawn effect once in a while. ‘Really Jamie's bunk-mates would be wise to get on her good side, because you never know when Jamie's knowledge/supplies will come in handy’ hehe you don’t even know the first of it… I find homes tell a lot about the person and this house when describing it I wanted to get the feel like you don’t really want to be in there, at all. But then I don’t watch enough *this old house* to really be able to name all the areas and describe too well. That’s why I had willow gloss over it. But Tara’s room is the opposite, it is not only her sanctuary but it was her mothers as well… yeah Buffy will find out what makes Tara so special. There’s so much to cover but not enough time and this part two is only meant to be a filler! I don’t want this part to end up being 100 pages either cause the next part’s really the real deal.

LQ- glad you liked the Buffy bonding. I was afraid people would think Buffy’s hitting on willow or something. No, they’re friends. Good friends. Best friends. Nothing more. Hehe…

Xita- hmmm, Willow, cutie patootie in shining armor. Hehe.

not exactly sure when the next update will be up so have a great week kittens!

Ooopsie. Sorry I wasn't around rane. I often creep in and creep out again, stealth is my middle name. Well actually, it's not "stealth" because what kind of a middle name is that...?

Anyway...lovely stuff. I really like that Buffy cares enough to enquire after Tara and that she's pleased Willow is so happy. There's something important about that between the two of them that seems to have been lacking lately.

Gorgeous stuff and yeah, Jamie is cute. But hey, she's not Willow. ;)

Great update Rane. Sad for Will that she didn't get to see Tara that night, but i did laugh out loud to the bit where Buffy was glad she didn't have a little sister, especially cause i got two of 'em. The part with Buffy and Will and the consolations was cool, i love the best friend interaction as it's still a very important part. Anywayz once again great update and more soon :)

Ruth- not a problem honey. I just wanted to send you off a part so you could give me your feedback. No worries. Glad you liked this part and yes I’m going to try and make buffy a bit more involved with willow from now on. It’s natural progression. And definitely Jamie is not willow but she’s like willow though. ;) what exactly does gorgeous stuff mean? Hehe…

Ange- tara is very good. Don’t worry about her. and I love your new site by the way!

viv- yeah willow is cute. Ok, she’s hot. You’re absolutely right. I haven’t gone much into physically describing jamie though so she could look totally different than willow, heck she could be black for all I know or maybe chinese? Hmmm… maybe I’ll have to balance out the races in this fic and describe the kids a bit more. Who knows.

Grimaldi- I’m not sure if tara will be in the next one. She’s not in the part that’s been writen already so I guess I’ll have to get on that huh? You have to admit with the massive amount of characters it’s been pretty much w/t in almost every update. I like building the story around them with them in it. ok, so maybe tara wasn’t physically in this update but she was still thought about and mentioned. Lol…

Nath- thank you! Hugs

Gem- yeah I’m trying. I posted in the disclaimers in part one that I would be lifting diaolgue form the episodes. I’m not half as good as ruth in incorporating them to this particular AU but I’m trying. Little bits…

Caz- Ya know, last time I had melted marshmallows is at this place in NYC called XandO’s where you can make your own smores at your table. It’s so much fun. Glad to say though I’ve never gotten in on my shoes or clothes. Hehe…

Ellie- lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalala…. Hehe :)

Magrat- I have no idea what her home life must have been like. I’ve never really known anyone with such mental or physcial abuse. Good to know you think it’s believable.

Lonewolf- quit poking, it tickles! Hehe… update will be sometime this week. I’m way behind on other stuff. we’ll see. Hugs!
