fairydust - It's a good thing I'm not seriously evil. I might just hold out this update as punishment. But since you're not the only one reading it, I'm editing it and putting it up. Be naughty in a :grin nice kinda way.

Well all here's the moment you've been waiting for, or maybe not. There are a few chapters that I struggled through, this is one of them. Ask my beta :grin . Hope this has just the right amount of W/T love.

Chapter 16 Do you like what you see?

“Uhhhg! It… just… wont… go…” Willow grunted. “ON!”

“What sweetie?” Tara asked as she walked from her bath. “Did you say something?”

“My shoe.” Willow grunted back. “I can’t get my left shoe on. Does that make any sense to you at all?” Willow tossed the shoes into the bottom of the closet. “I mean I know you were due yesterday and that you are tired and your back aches but it seems a bit over the top for only one of my feet to be swollen. Is that like a sick joke?” Willow pulled out a pair of hot pink plastic pool flip-flops. “I mean I should at least be able to wear the same shoes. Ya know like a matching pair. I look ridiculous in these sandals.” She looked up at her wife and paused before saying, “And I’m stupid for complaining when your towel doesn’t even make it all the way around your belly.” Willows eyes grew large as she noticed the gap between the edges of the blonde’s towel. Tara paraded in front of the red head in hopes of causing a distraction.

“Do you like what you see?” Tara smiled. She’d managed to distract the red head three times this week by picking a small towel from the cabinet.

“Not as much as what I don’t see.” Willow reached for the towel and pulled it from her wife. “There that’s much better.”

“Oh so you like this huh?” Tara grinned and rubbed the taught flesh of her very large belly. “Only a little time left to enjoy it.” Tara grinned wickedly as she turned to leave the room. Willow laughed and jumped to her feet grabbing the blonde in front of her.

“So then I better seize the day?” Willow smiled as her fingers traced across Tara’s skin. They moved slowly toward the bed and Tara eased herself down. “Seize the wife.” Willow moved in carefully beside her. “I’m pretty sure if we do this all day Abbey might just pop right out.” Willow giggled like a child as she slid her hand to Tara’s face. The mood was interrupted by a knock on the door. “GO AWAY!” Willow yelled to the wall. Giving a frustrated grumble she stood from the bed.

“Will, it’s ok. I’ll wait here you go answer it.” Tara smiled as she rolled onto her side. Willow walked down the stairs and opened the door. She was very disappointed at the sight of Anya standing on her front porch.

“I came to see the nursery.” She said as she pushed her way into the house. “Tara told me yesterday that it was finished and that I should come and see it sometime. So here I am.”

“Great.” Willow grumbled under her breath. . “We were just in the middle of something. So come back later.” Willow tried to maneuver her out the door. Anya twisted around squeezing herself into the foyer of the house.

“It’s the middle of the afternoon and she said I should come. So I’m here.” Anya looked at the redhead standing in her flip-flops. “Nice foot. What the hell happened to you?”

“Swollen,” Willow looked down and wiggled her chubby little toes.

“Just the one?” Anya asked smirking at the unhappy red head. “What are you a freak?”

“NO!…It’s just a thing. I have no idea why just the one.” Willow paused in frustration. She surrendered to the moment and let the woman into the house. Trying to change the subject from her mutant foot. “So you want to see the nursery?”

“Yes, Where’s Tara she said I should come and see it?”

“She’s upstairs.” She started to explain but Anya interrupted with her own version of events.

“Ohh you were in the middle of an or…gasm something.” Anya shifted her head in response to her own question. “Tryin to pop that cork are ya?” Anya slapped Willow on the shoulder. “I hear it works. Got no first hand experience, but I’ve heard a good physical sexual experience can shaken things up.” Anya pounded the air for emphasis.

Willow was unhappy with the joke and about to express it as Tara came down the stairs. Shadowed by disappointment at the sight of her wife fully dressed. Tara noticed and offered a kiss as consolation.

“Still like what you don’t see.” Tara whispered in her ear. “I’ll get rid of her as fast as I can.” Willow blushed a bit and moved into the living room. She wanted nothing to do with Anya and her current state of mind. She decided she would do a little work while Tara showed off the wonderful mural she’d painted in the nursery. A few minutes later the phone rang.

Willow answered and chatted with Dawn for a few minutes and hung up the phone. She yelled up to Tara.

“Baby…I have to go to Buffy’s house. Dawn thinks she has a virus on her computer. She’s having a meltdown and she wants me to take a look at it. I’ll only be gone about half an hour.”

“Okay sweetie,” Tara yelled back. “We’ll be here. I’m not planning on going anywhere.”

Willow walked out the door and hurried over to see Dawn. Tara and Anya sat in the nursery. Anya was trying to understand why everything was so bright and cheery.

“She’s not even going to notice all of this ya know.” Anya said looking around at the incredible enchanted forest Tara had created on the four walls. “Really all she’s going to do is eat, pee and sleep, not very productive as far as I can tell.” She milled about the room opening drawers and touching things on the dresser. “Must be a human design flaw. Most demons are spawned fully grown. Did you know that? Too bad you aren’t having one of those. You could skip all the cuddling.” Anya peeked behind the door and screamed. “AHHH! … what the hell is that? I thought you liked your daughter.”

“I do,” Tara laughed as she noticed the fluffy bunny Willow had placed on the dresser in the corner. “It’s harmless. One of the ladies from work gave it to us.”

“And you’re going to keep it in here?” Anya questioned. “Nightmares that thing will cause nightmares. Nothing is more frightening then fluffy bunnies.”

“Right.” Tara giggled. “No fluffy bunnies. I’ll put it in the closet.”

“What!” Anya yelled. “You’re going to put that monster in the closet. Are you insane? Between you and Willow that kid is getting screwed.” Tara laughed as she closed the closet door. “Hey! How’s that going anyway? The kid I mean.”

“Fine,” Tara answered. “The kid has a name you know. It’s Abigail and Abigail is great and she is ready to come out any time.” She rocked slowly in the antique rocking chair. “Andie our midwife came yesterday. Everything looks fine so now we just have to wait till Abbey wants to see us all. We set up the spare room for the delivery.” Tara gave Anya a quick tour of the room. And they discussed the home birth plan. Anya was interested in the bloody aspects of delivery and Tara wanted to change the subject. “So how about some tea?”

“Not the chamomile crap.” Anya said as she walked down the stairs. “Willow’s been trying to make us all drink that nasty stuff. She should have tried fennel. It settles the stomach. Works for babies too.”

“Tea for babies?” Tara laughed, but was very interested in her explanation.

“Well sure. Dates back at least 1000 years. You steep the seeds into a tea. Of course you let it cool for a baby. Duh! They burn easier. It does help to settle the stomach.”

Tara was a bit surprised that Anya of all people knew how to settle colic in an infant. The idea made her giggle and she thought about looking it up in her book of herbal remedies. The two women walked into the kitchen. Tara was busy making tea when the phone rang. It was Willow letting Tara know she had to take Dawn to the Computer Warehouse for an anti-virus update. They planned to be gone for only an hour. Tara hung up the phone and turned to face Anya.

“So Willow is gone for a bit. What do you want to do?”

“Let’s play Monopoly.” Anya clapped her hands with excitement.

“Um.” Tara paused as Anya interrupted.

“Yes you know.” Anya explained. “The game with houses and money and the ultimate goal is to force your friends and family to sell of all their belongings and send them into the poor house.” She smiled largely at the idea and clapped vigorously. “Lets play.”

Tara just laughed as she thought about Buffy and Dawn. This was an inside joke and Anya was clearly out of the loop. They quickly set up the game and began to play. They played for a while. Anya was an expert at the game and she somehow managed to land on the very best properties. Tara leaned in to roll the dice and felt a sharp pain in her back that traveled around to her side. Leaning to catch her breath, it passed quickly and she continued to rolled the dice.

“You okay?” Anya asked. “You look like you’re in pain.” Shuffling the play money and planning her strategy she ignored the blonde’s response.

“Just a bit.” Tara answered. “But it’s gone now. I’m alright.” They continued to play and a few minutes later another pain raced through Tara and this time she was very certain it was a contraction. “Anya I think the baby is finally coming.”

“Well it’s about frikkin time.” Anya spat. “Wait I just landed on Park Place I want to buy it.”

“Okay you do that.” Tara breathed through the pain. “When you’re done please get me the phone would you?”

“Calling an Ambulance?” Anya asked. “Good idea lets get you to a hospital.”

“NO!” Tara yelled. “I need to call the midwife. Go in the kitchen. That phone is cordless.”

“See I knew it.” Anya spat. “The damn kitchen. It’s gonna happen right in there. I’m telling you right now if that kid is born in this kitchen I’m never eating dinner here again. I mean it. That’s just extremely unsanitary.”

“No. I’m staying right here. Your future meals are completely safe.” Tara stopped speaking when she felt Willow call her.

Tara Baby. She heard the redhead in her mind.

You’re in labor aren’t you?

Yes Sweetie. I think I am. Please get home quickly.

I’m already on my way. I love you and don’t worry. Is Anya still there?

Yes. She glanced at Anya who was collecting $200.00 for passing go, after rolling doubles and buying Park Place.

Good have her help you up to the bedroom. All the blankets and stuff are on the floor in the closet. Did you call Andie yet?

I’m kinda busy talking to you sweetie. Both women gasped as another contraction hit.

Son of a bitch. Tara heard Willow’s thoughts and laughed through the contraction.

Willow you and your mouth need to relax and breathe.

I’ll be okay Tara. Call Andie I’ll be home in 20 minutes. I love you.

I love you too.

Tara dialed the phone, surprised when she got an answering service, but not at all concerned. Andie's practice was very high tech and she knew the message would be delivered. Anya sat impatiently tapping at the table waiting for Tara to come back and take her turn.

“Hey!” Anya screeched. “I just bought Park Place. I got more money for just going passed go. It’s your turn and you’re heading down my street. Come on. Baby needs a new pair of shoes.”

“Um… Anya.” Tara tried to ignore the irony of the situation. “I’m having the baby. I think we could just hold off on the game.”

“Oh Sure!” She spat sarcastically. “Just when I was about to take you down, you go and get all contraction-y.” Anya looked at her with a straight faceflipping her hands at Tara's belly. “Big cheater.”

Tara smirked at Anya and tried to walk up to her bedroom. Another contraction hit as she lifted her foot to the bottom step. Tara screamed loudly and Anya came running.

“You should really go to a hospital, they give you stuff for all that pain now.”

“Uugh.” Tara suffered through the contraction. “I’m not going to the hospital. But I would like to get upstairs. Will you please help me?”

“Sure if you think that’s the best thing to do, I’ll help you, but if things go wonky, I’m gonna say I told you so.”

“Yes Anya, I know.” Tara grabbed her around the shoulder and climbed the stairs. Two contractions later they were finally in the spare bedroom. Willow and Tara had set it up as a birthing room. Andie their midwife, had delivered a special bed for childbirth just the day before. Anya helped Tara to the bed and looked for instructions on what to do next.

“Now what do I do?” She stood nervously rubbing one hand in the other shifting her body from side to side.

“You ever deliver a baby?” Tara asked nervously shifting onto the bed attempting to get comfortable.

“Seen it a few times.” She answered seriously. “It’s So awful. I’m not watching you do it. And if it gets stuck, I’m not allowed to gut you. But don’t get me wrong missy I could do it and do it well.”

Tara’s eyes widened at the thought and she worried that Willow wouldn’t get there on time. Everything seemed to be happening very quickly. She was completely unprepared for it to happen this way. At that moment they heard the front door slam. Tara called to Willow.

WillowTara quieted her mind to listen.

I’m almost there. Willow thought back Five more minutes. I can tell you are close. I’ve been timing them. They are ohhhhh... son... of... a... bitch these are so damn painful.

Will... sweetie... you have to stop swearing in my head. Tara was working hard to concentrate and breathe through the contraction. Hurry please. Anya is trying to help me. Oh Goddess help me. Please hurry.

Anya realized Tara was communicating with Willow, checked to see who came in the door. It was Xander and the sight of him brought relief.

“Xander!” Anya squealed. “You’re just in time to see Tara have her baby. Now that you are here, you can go pull that thing out of there. It’s too awful. I’m not watching. I’m going to boil something.”

“What!” Xander shook his head as he focused on her words. “Did you just say Tara’s in labor?”

“Yes!… and Willow is nowhere to be found.” She nervously paced the floor. “Thoughtlessly abandoning her in her time of need.”

“Where is she?” He attempted to stop her pacing by grabbing her shoulders.

“Out driving around with Dawn and her computer.”

“Tara’s out with Dawn and a computer in labor?” Xander was clearly confused.

“No Willow’s with Dawn.” Anya explained slowly so the cro-mag could understand her confusing explanation. “Tara is upstairs… alone… without the midwife… Her contractions are very close together… and Willow… is out shopping for viruses.”

The screaming from upstairs interrupted the conversation. Anya and Xander raced to the spare bedroom. Tara was lying on the bed trying to focus and breathe through the contraction. The pain eased a bit and she turned to them.

“Call Andie again please!” Tara begged. The pain was more than she could handle. She felt alone and very frightened. Her body, tense and was chilled with sweat.

“Okay, The number is on the fridge right?” He asked.

“Yes!” Tara barked as she felt another contraction. “Hurry this is happening way to fast.” Xander ran out of the room and made the call.

“Anya.” Tara looked at her. “Will you please help me out of my clothes and into that gown in the closet?”

“Sure.” Anya grabbed the gown and helped Tara change. It was awkward for both women, but necessary. She eased herself back onto the bed. The contractions were coming so closely together that she got very little relief in between. Anya decided she should check to see if something was coming out yet.

“Do you think I should look and see if it’s coming out yet?” Anya asked.

“I don’t know.” Tara was a bit confused as all of her energy was focused on the pain.

“I’ll just look and let you know if I see anything.” Anya lifted the gown to look, just as the bedroom door swung open.

“What the hell are you doing?” Willow screamed at the sight of Anya looking between Tara’s legs. “Get away from her.” She grabbed the fabric from Anya’s hand and forced in down against Tara’s skin.

“Hey!” I’m just trying to help.” Anya yelled pulling her hands back. “That thing is sticking out. I’m just trying to make sure it comes out right.”

“Goddess! Get the hell… oh son of a bitch!” Willow screamed countless obscenities as Tara had another contraction. “Christ Tara, how can you be so quiet?”

“Well you seem to be doing all of the screaming and cursing for both of us.” Tara breathed through the pain, panting and Hee Hee Heeing.

Willow moved onto the bed to help relax her wife. She reached for the note pad next to the bed and gave it to Anya.

“Please go and get these things for us.” Willow asked as calmly as possible.

“Okay, I’ll be right back.” Anya quickly ran down to the kitchen.

The two women were finally alone, together, and they attempted to comfort each other.

“Baby how are you doing?” She rubbed Tara’s brow. Pulling thin strands of sweat soaked hair from her face. “I know how you are doing… but what can I do?”

“I need to focus Will.” Tara’s eyes pleaded for help. “Will you do something to help me focus? I can’t do it alone.”

Willow quickly turned on some music. The soft instrumental sounds began to play. Willow folded the bed upright into a giant chair, and moved in behind Tara. Their bodies found comfort as they leaned into each another. Willow began to chant, "Diana bring us strength and surround us with your peace." She repeated it over and over as Tara joined the rhythm of the chant. "Diana bring us strength and surround us with your peace." They became as one and lost themselves in the safety of each other. As the next contraction came, their breathing eased them through it. This continued until Tara felt the need to push. They were forced to make a decision neither hoped would be necessary.

“Will we can’t do this alone.” She said with astonishing calm. “Should we call Andie’s emergency number, or an ambulance? I really think Abbey is coming, NOW!”

Willow knew how much it meant for her wife to have the baby at home. So she decided to call Andie one more time. She yelled for help.

“ANYA!” Willow screamed. “Call Andie again. But call the emergency number written in red.”

“We already did!” She yelled as she walked through the door, quickly followed by Xander and the midwife.

Andie smiled as she walked into the room. The very tall skinny brunette bundled her hair up into a sloppy bun. She slipped a smock over her baggy sweats and t-shirt. Clearly she’d been interrupted from her daily routine. “Sorry I didn’t get here faster. My pager went off while I was out for a run. I delivered a baby just a few hours ago. Busy day. So you started the party without me?”

“Abbey seems to be in charge at the moment.” Willow smiled. Another contraction came, but this time the two women were so connected and focused they closed their eyes and breathed through it.

Andie moved in and lifted Tara’s gown. She checked to see how things were progressing.

“Well,” Andie smiled at the two women. “Another ten minutes and you wouldn’t have needed me. Tara you are amazing. You’re fully dilated and fully effaced. So whenever you’re ready to push you can.”

Those were the words She’d had been waiting for. During the next contraction the two women leaned forward and Tara pushed. The head started to come out and the room was abuzz with excitement.

“I can see the head.” Andie smiled as she looked at Tara. “I’m just going to ease my fingers around her here to help just a little. Tara screamed loudly for the first time as another contraction ripped through her body. It startled Willow and she tried to look at Tara.

“Baby Are you okay? Should I move?”

“NO! Stay here.” She said grabbing Willow’s hands. “It’s much easier with your arms around me.” Both women noticed how they were sharing the intense pain and that once their bodies made contact the intensity seemed to ease.

“Tara, stop pushing.” Andie said calmly. “I can see that you are beginning to tear. I need to make a small incision to ease some of the stretching.”

Willow was a bit concerned, she wondered why it was necessary at this point. She looked to Andie for an explanation. “Why? Is everything okay?”

“It’s fine Willow.” Andie explained. “She has just progressed so quickly her body didn’t get time to stretch slowly. This will make it easier. And once the baby is here an incision is much easier to repair than a tear. Just trust me. This is perfectly normal.”

“Normal for you maybe.”

Andie made the incision lifting her hands from under the drape covering Tara. Xander saw the blood on her hands and got weak in the knees. Anya noticed and helped him out into the hall. He slid down to the floor and stayed there trying to catch his breath. Anya ran down to the kitchen to get the water and ice chips she had forgotten when Andie came in. She also grabbed her popcorn from the microwave. She ran back up the stairs and entered the room. She put the ice and water next to the bed and offered some to the ladies in the room.

“Tara do you want ice or water?” Anya asked. “I brought it. How about the washcloth? Should I cool it off for you?”

“I’m fine.” Tara answered. Another contraction hit and she pushed hard.

“Her head is out.” Andie smiled as she gave the news. Tara sighed a bit of relief. Anya peeked her head around to take a look. She was stuffing popcorn into her mouth and giving a casual grossed out look.

“It looks pretty disgusting for being human.” She offered commentary as she chomped the mouthful of popcorn.. “It’s all covered in goo. Hey, it’s got blonde hair.”

“Anya.” Willow barked. “This isn’t a show. Stop looking under there.” She paused. “Blonde? …really? Ohh baby she has your hair.” Willow leaned to kiss her wife as another contraction hit. Tara gave one long last hard push and Abigail Maclay-Rosenberg was welcomed into the world. Andie cleaned her off briskly wiping her from head to toe. She suctioned her nose and mouth, wrapped her in a soft blanket, and gently placed her on Tara’s stomach. Andie continued to work and clamped the umbilical cord.

“Willow do you still want to cut the cord?”

“Oh yes.” She sighed. She slipped slowly out from behind her wife and reached to cut the cord. Tara leaned back into the bed and held her daughter in awe. Abbey let out a gentle cry as Willow moved back onto the bed beside her wife and child. Tara ran her fingers across the sweet face of her daughter. Willow touched the tiny open hand and it wrapped around her finger. She gasped at the feeling.

“Okay Tara you still have a bit of work to do.” Andie interrupted. “Willow take Abbey to the nursery and clean her up. Do you remember how I showed you to do it?”

“I took notes.” She explained with a smile. “I even drew diagrams.” Tara kissed her daughter and wife before they left the room. As she stepped through the doorway she met Anya crying in the hall slumped next to Xander.

“Are you okay?” Willow looked at Anya strangely. “What happened?”

“She did.” Anya said pointing at Abigail. “I think that is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in all of my eleven hundred and twenty-five years.” Anya stood to look at the baby. She reached to touch her skin and was amazed by the flood of emotion. “I feel so soft and fuzzy. She is just so cute and cuddly.”

“Welcome to your humanity Anya.” Willow patted her on the shoulder as she walked into the nursery. Xander stood as they walked by and followed them into the room. The three of them stared in amazement as Willow carefully cleaned her daughter’s beautiful pink body. They counted fingers and toes and Willow tenderly touched the soft blonde hair on her head. Following her written instructions Willow diapered and dressed her daughter in a one-piece t-shirt. She wrapped her in a blanket and carried her back into the birthing room.

“Here she is.” Willow lifted her daughter so she could see Tara. “There is your Mommy. Isn’t she the most beautiful lady you’ve ever seen?” Willow leaned in and kissed the damp brow of her wife placing her daughter in the blonde’s arms. Andie was finishing the stitches as Willow sat down on the bed. Tara winced a bit and quickly caught her breath.

“Tara,” she said apologetically. “I’m sorry baby are you okay?”

“Oh I’m better than okay.” Tara reached and pulled Willow beside her on the bed. “She’s finally here sweetie. She’s so beautiful.”

“She definitely takes after you then.” Willow said lovingly.

“So do you like what you see?” Tara smiled brightly as she asked.

“OH yes!” Willow answered emphatically. “Very much.”

Perfect!

Okay I'm usually not one to write praise of fics - there's usually so many people writing better praise than I ever could - but this chapter was just so...awwww! Nothing compares to the idea of WIllow and Tara having a baby girl! I absolutely loved this chapter! See just another Kitten proving that if the Kittens wrote for Buffy the world would be a better place!

Oh, that was wonderful! And a little blonde baby - so cute to have a little Tara running around. At first I was happy to see Xander come because Anya wasn't exactly being helpful, but Anya did all right in the end. Even with the popcorn commentary. ;)

Thanks and I hope we get to see more of the baby! :)

Aww Abbey had hiccups. Gotta admit that had the same reaction as Anya to start with and then Xander explained it... Oh. That can't be good.

Scared now. I'm not like Anya. Though they should make them more aware of Tara's ARTISTIC talents. Other talents are for Willow - and us if Urn is in a very nice mood - only.

Edited cos you posted just as I was replying! Not that I'm complaining. Adorable fic, and Abbey is so sweet! So is Anya, being all human and so on.

Tara: There's just so much to work through... and can you just be kissing me now?

I love the idea of Tara painting the mural for Abigail's room. I've always considered her to be very creative.

Can totally see Anya like Monopoly, and Buffy's idea of Monopoly! Her annoyance at Tara going into labour just as she'd purchased Park Place was funny.

Love the image of our two girls working together to focus on bringing Abigail into the world. Wonderful too how Anya was nonchalantly eating popcorn, and then melted when she saw little Abby!

Willow: We can come by between classes. Usually I use that time to copy over my class notes with a system of different colored pens. But it's been pointed out to me that that's, you know... insane.

Chapter 17 – Half of what makes me whole, is all of what makes you…you.

Two hard knocks hit the glass on the front door. The knob swiveled a bit and the door burst open. Buffy and Dawn flew through the door stumbling over eachother screaming.

“Tara! Willow!” Buffy shouted as Dawn quickly mirrored the sound. They dashed from room to room, looking for signs of life, bumping into each other as their paths crossed. Suddenly footsteps on the stairs broke their spree. Anya bounced carelessly down the steps tossing popcorn in her mouth.

“They’re upstairs.” She explained as if nothing spectacular had happened.

“And the baby?” Dawn looked up the stairs. “Is she here?”

“Yes.” Anya gave a sweet squished face looking at the still stunned Xander. “About twenty-five minutes ago. You just missed it. It was just eww in a fascinating way.” Anya tossed a bit of popcorn into her mouth again. “So who’s gonna finish the Monopoly game with me.” She looked around from person to person salivating for another victim. “Tara and I started to play, and the big cheater had to go and have contractions, just before I could whip her ass.”

The four of them looked at each other and Buffy laughed.

“You were playing Monopoly with Tara?” A sinister grin stretched across her face as she looked directly at Anya.

“Yes! And I had her nailed to the wall. I was just about to take her for everything.”

“Oh…”Buffy doubled over laughing. “I am so gonna get Willow with this one.” Buffy could hardly contain her laughter as she climbed the steps.

“What? Why…why is she laughing at me Xander?” Anya turned to him confused and offended. “They always laugh at me and I never understand why. What did I say that was so funny?”

Xander walked slowly into the living room as he spent the next few minutes explaining the metaphor that Buffy was obviously going to torment Willow with.

As Buffy and Dawn approached the spare room they heard the baby cry. Buffy turned to look in the master bedroom, realizing they’d moved in there. The sisters smashed themselves against the door with excitement. Dawn gave a soft knock and a gentle voice answered.

“You can come in.” Tara spoke. “We’re just getting settled.” Tara moved slowly to sit against the pillows that Willow was stacking behind her. Abigail was lying on the bed between Tara’s legs wrapped in a small white blanket. Willow was fussing over Tara and the baby, hardly noticing the slayer and her sister entering.

“Hey you guys,” Dawn said with a cute baby voice. “Oh…can I see her?” she squeezed in front of Buffy pushing her out of the way.

“Sure,” Tara patted the bed beside her. “Come sit here next to me.” Tara scooped the baby from the bed and turned her toward the sisters. Dawn reached her hand toward the baby and Willow quickly slapped it away.

“HEY!” Willow yelled. “Did you wash your hands? I mean there are germs and you could spread them all over her and make her sick. You know babies can get sick just like regular people ya know. So go wash your hands.”

“God! Overprotective much?” Dawn spat as she rubbed the back of her hand. She turned to wash her hands but Buffy beat her out the door and they raced to be the first one finished.

Tara was struggling to teach her daughter how to eat and cringing at each failed attempt. She gave a sigh of relief as they finally achieved success. As Buffy and Dawn moved back into the room they were disappointed to see the baby latching on for a snack, knowing they’d have to wait even longer to drool over the precious child. Willow stuck out her tongue in triumph as she stroked the soft blonde hair of her daughter. “Pays to be sleeping with the mother,” She snickered as she leaned in to kiss her wife and daughter.

“Right and do you know what she was doing with Anya earlier?” Buffy asked smugly.

Tara smiled largely as she knew how Willow would respond to the next sentence. Willow looked at Tara with a curious smirk.

“Monopoly!” Buffy laughed. “Your wife was playing Monopoly with Anya.”

“What?…she who… what to …she did who?” She looked at her wife in horror. Tara was nodding yes and grinning.

“You abandoned me, so naturally I turned to Anya for comfort,” Tara could hardly contain her laughter. She may have buckled over, if Abbey hadn’t been in her arms.

“You…you did that with Anya?” Willow was clearly not amused. Frustrated with the knowledge that Buffy had ammunition for continuous harassment. So she did what she could to save herself. “That’s it. It’ll never work. It’s all over. I’m scarred for life and on a day of celebration. You have tainted it. You have tainted us. How will I ever shake my dice for you again? You…you…cheater.”

“Cheater? Who’s the cheater?’ Anya asked as she barged into the room. “Ohh… you must be talking about Tara. I was about to take her down. She was going to pay. I had her at my mercy. Then she goes and screams like Xander and runs up the stairs.”

She felt a hand cover her mouth. Xander knew that Anya was only fueling the fire between Buffy and Willow and he thought he better stop her. Plus screaming like a girl wasn’t exactly the way he wanted to be described.

“My wife doesn’t cheat!” Willow pouted as she reached for her daughter. Abbey had finished snacking and Willow began to burp her. She looked to her wife, “Baby, am I doing this right?” Tara just nodded and smiled. Willow was a natural even if she lacked the confidence. Abbey gave out a little burp and everyone oohed and ahhed and wanted to touch her. Willow pulled her tightly into her arms and was lost in the moment. She was surrounded by everyone she called family and she couldn’t be happier. “All of you go wash your hands.” Willow spat and pointed at the door. She turned to look at her wife. “Tara we should get some of that anti-bacterial hand wiping goop. Ya know you pump it on your hands and no more germies.”

“Sure sweetie,” Tara decided just to agree with Willow’s obsessive cleanliness. “You can get some tomorrow.”

The gang forced their way through the door. The four of them were stuck, pushing against each other in an attempt to be the first one through. They smiled at the sight of the two women holding their daughter tightly. Buffy seized the opportunity to squeeze in front of the gang and held out her hands.

“Come to Auntie Buffy,” She said with her best squeaky baby voice looking at Willow. “Gimmie that baby.”

They laughed and handed their daughter to Buffy. The slayer melted from the beauty of the child. The Scoobies swarmed around Buffy and devoured the child. They each took turns cuddling her until she started to cry. Suddenly she was thrust back into Tara’s arms and they decided it might be time to retreat.

“Well um, I think we’ve invaded your bonding time for today.” Xander confessed. “We’ll come by tomorrow. If it’s okay?”

“Sure Xander,” Tara answered quickly. She was very tired and wanted to rest. She loved her family, but wanted quiet. She wanted to enjoy her wife and her daughter together, alone. “Call us in the afternoon. We’d love to have you come and visit. All of you.” Willow took the baby from her wife.

“Let me change her.” She explained. “I’ll walk them out and we’ll come back to you. Close your eyes and rest for awhile baby.” Willow kissed her wife and carried her child out the door.

“Wake me when you’re back,” Tara whispered through sleepy eyes.

The rest of the gang said goodbye to Tara as Willow scooted them out the door. They left Willow in the nursery and said their smoochie goodbyes to Abbey. They told Willow to stay, that they could find their way out.

Willow showed her daughter the beautiful mural on the wall. She explained every detail, every brush stroke and every bit of love that went into the painting. She struggled with the tiny diaper and slipped the shirt over her daughter’s body. They sat quietly in the rocking chair, completely unaware of the person standing behind them.

“Ahem” a throat cleared behind her.

Startled by the sound, Willow turned to see who was standing there.

“Andie, Oh Goddess I forgot you were still here. I’m so terrible. I got all caught up in the baby and Tara and the family. I can’t believe I forgot to help you.”

“Seriously Willow,” Andie answered. “I’ve done this hundreds of times and this is the part that you and Tara really don’t need to be involved in.” Andie paused and moved in closer. She wanted to explain her tasks. “I’ve followed all the old traditions of after birth so let Tara know, will you? She’s just fallen asleep and I don’t want to wake her. I left the breast pump by the bed. She should try to pump a few times a day it’ll help to increase her breast milk.”

Willow nodded after every detail was given. She had already taken extensive notes and thought herself very prepared.

“I think we’ll be fine,” Willow stood to walk her out.

“No, sit down Willow,” She motioned to the redhead. “I’ll let myself out. You enjoy your family. You have my numbers.” The midwife turned to leave. “I know the next few weeks are going to be crazy, but feel free to call me anytime.” She turned and padded down the stairs carrying the last of her gear.

Willow looked into the eyes of her daughter. She decided it might be time to join her soul mate, and finally have some “in the flesh” Willow, Tara, Abbey time. The redhead quietly carried her daughter into the bedroom. She stopped in the doorway to take pleasure in the beauty of her sleeping wife. A rush of emotions flooded her mind and she couldn’t hold back the tears. Abbey wiggled gently in her arms and they walked over to the bed. Tara opened her eyes and lifted the covers to welcome them in.

“You look so beautiful sleeping here.” Willow softly whispered. “You did an amazing job today. She’s perfect. You’re perfect. Oh . . . Goddess I love you Tara.” She leaned in to kiss her wife and settled the baby across her chest.

Tara reached her hand softly to rub her daughter’s pale pink skin. She whispered quietly. “I love you too. She’s part of us. She could only be perfect.” Tara slowly closed her eyes as the three of them took a well-deserved rest.

How will I ever shake my dice for you again? Heh, that was funny, typical of Anya that even when (or maybe especially because of) the metaphor was explained she had to wind Willow up.

Lovely how all the Scoobs were clamouring to hold Abby. And Willow made them all wash their hands first.

And I really liked Willow explaining the mural to Abby.

First :peace and :love to you all today.

What a long weekend. Hope all the kittens in Alabama had a great time. Wish I could have been there. Poor Amber looked very tired. She needs a rest.

Any way hope you like chapter 17 and here are some replies. Slighlty backwards today. Thanks again LS for all your help.

Kismic – Thanks for the kind words. I just love the idea of them as parents. We got a tiny glimpse of domestic Tara and Willow on BTVS. Would have liked about 10 seasons of that. I’ll miss them together. So I guess I’ll have to make it up myself. Thing is I might not want to come out of my head then.

Sapphire tear – Thanks so happy you liked it. I got warm and fuzzies too.

Scout – Little blonde baby yes, like Tara I guess we’ll have to wait and see there. I would never have Xander come and save the day. Screw that. Him and his friggen box of yellow crayons. ** sorry rant over now ** I just love the image of Anya with the popcorn in hush. Cracks me up. How insane would Willow get though seeing Anya looking under Tara’s gown. :laugh

Miss1234kitty – Liked the hiccups, I thought it was the coolest feeling when I was pregnant. Well Xander knows “Anya speak” that’s all he’s really good for. Sorry that “Talents” of our gorgeous blonde will not be explored in depth in this fic. Anya and her humanness I think it surprises her constantly.

Mollyig – I think it’s a wonderful way to pour yourself into something. I always imagined that Tara was very artistically talented. Oh yes the monopoly game, how fun is that? Hope you like the way that plays out in chapter 17. I really wanted to show how connected they are. It’s really what makes the characters so wonderful. Oh and Anya as always discovering her humanity. Imagine 1120 years without it and then having all of it at once. Freakin overload. Then Babies always have a way of melting the hardest hearts too. I went insane with the anti bacterial lotions when my first son was born. OCD bigtime. We'll get a bit of W/T/A time in the next chapter. Shakin the dice. :p I could just see her sayin that.

Lola19 – Yes Baby and Family J Glad you’re enjoyin it, more on the way.

MissQuirky – Well I hope the cursing wasn’t too much. I figured under the circumstances she’d say a word or two. Anya would so want to keep playing, that’s what makes Anya such fun. I figured someone should have to take care of all the icky stuff. I didn’t want to overlook the realities of childbirth. **Owww crosses legs at the memory** More soon.

Thanks again everyone for reading.

Chow for now

Edited because I'm too slow. Poop :grin

This Look of Love

Postby Urn of Osiris » Mon Sep 23, 2002 2:10 pm

Good morning all. :peace and :love from chilly Wisconsin. Brrrr. Hope you enjoy a bit of W/T/A time.

Same disclaimers apply, you know the drill.

Enjoy

Chapter 18 – Rhythm

“I know I can’t sing like your mom, but I’d really like to make you feel safe.”

Back and forth the red head drifted with the tiny blonde enveloped tightly in her soft cotton blanket. The squeaking chains of the porch swing created a rhythmic vibration. Willow stroked the tiny brow of her daughter, reading the PC weekly journal aloud. She stopped reading to say; “I think your mom and I should get some children’s books for you.”

Her dangling leg was pushing softly with the tempo of the squeaking chain. The crisp morning air swished the leaves on the trees. Willow looked at the autumn sky around them.

“Maybe we should just look at the clouds?”

She tossed the magazine to the porch floor, and turned the child into her lap. She felt so connected to the tiny stranger in her arms. They looked toward the sky as Abbey suckled her mother’s pinky finger.

“When I was little I spent a lot of time inside my house wishing I had someone to look at cloud shapes with me. Maybe you and I can do that together?” She kissed the top of her daughter’s head, “I love you.”

They closed their eyes listening to the rhythm of the swing. Willow wondered how a parent could detach from this wonderful feeling of completeness. How could her mother not have felt such devotion? She couldn’t understand it.

After a long silence, “I listened to your heartbeat. I think it was the most amazing sound, right after the sound of your mom singing.”

A long silence fell around them.

“Be careful, I might think you’re trying to butter me up.” Tara whispered through the screen of the kitchen door. She was watching and listening to the love between a mother and her child. One of the most inspirational moments she’d ever witnessed.

“Mmm… tasty thought but, right now we’re looking at the clouds. I was reading the specifications for software upgrades, but that was getting her too excited.”

“Just like her mother. Huh?”

“Maybe, but only a bit. I think she’d much rather hear you sing. I know I would.”

Tara pushed the door open and smiled at the breathtaking sight of her wife and daughter.

“I’d like to freeze time and stay like this forever.”

“Me too.” Willow stopped the swing so her wife could sit. “Take Abbey. I’ll be right back.”

Willow quietly slipped the child into her mother’s arms. She entered the house and after a few minutes she returned with a thick soft blanket and a bottle of water.

“Rations?” the blonde asked as she shifted uncomfortably.

“The comforts of home.” Willow laid the blanket on the swing making a soft cushion for her wife. “Sit here baby. Give Abbey to me while you get comfortable.”

Tara rested her body on the swing. Willow moved in behind to support her wife and daughter. Abigail had quickly moved into feeding position. The three women quietly swayed back and forth under Willow’s steady motion.

Willow’s voice finally broke the long silence. “Goddess you really look beautiful when you’re feeding her.”

“Is that the breast girl talking?”

“More like the proud parent and adoring wife. But I guess the breast girl applies too. Now that you mention it.” Willow stroked the soft flaxen hair on her daughter’s head

“See I knew it.” Tara smiled as she shifted the baby to her other breast.

“So did you get any rest?”

“Just a little. It’s hard with all the aches and everything. The stitches itch a bit, but I’ll be okay in a few days.”

“Oh, if you need me to scratch the itch, I suppose I could be forced to volunteer.” She ran her fingers along the edge of Tara’s chin.

“Not just a breast girl. Hmm?”

“But then you already knew that.” She leaned forward kissing her softly.

“Yes, you’ve made that very clear on more than one occasion.” Tara gently pulled her daughter from her breast leaning forward to burp her. “I think our little darling needs a clean diaper.”

“Oh, let me do it you stay here.” She tenderly slipped from behind her wife and reached for the baby.

“Will, you don’t need to do everything. I’m not a porcelain doll.”

“Oh I know that. I just want you to get some rest. You need to rest. Oh, and by the way I’m very aware you aren’t made of glass.” She winked as she scooped her daughter and carried her inside.

Willow quickly returned swinging the crying baby in her arms. She was surprisingly calm as she handed her back to Tara. “I think she’s looking for something I just can’t give her.”

“Oh… I’ll take her.” Tara smiled sweetly. “ I know she wasn’t finished. Did she burp up there?”

“Yes, a very large burp,” Willow professed proudly. “Making room for more yummy goodness.”

“We’ll have to try that pump out, so you can feed her.” Tara flinched a bit as Abbey latched on.

“Oh good idea. Andie said it would increase your milk.” She couldn’t help but stare at her wife, captivated by the image of the two of them so naturally connected.

“Yes I remember that from page 90 of your notes.” She winked with a playful grin.

“They’re digital now. I loaded them into the PDA. All you have to do is a keyword search.”

“Now you’re just trying to find a way to get me to use that thing.”

“Absolutely not.” She playfully pouted. “I’m just enhancing the software program. If you choose not to support the fine hard work I’m doing that’s your guilt trip.”

“I love you sweetie.” She said lovingly feeling the pangs of guilt. “I’ll use it, just to make you happy.”

“Oh you are so full of baloney.” She grinned “You just need my notes. You laughed at them and now you want to use them.”

“I never laughed. Teased maybe, but never laughed.” Tara yawned as she shifted in the swing.

“Is she done eating? If she is let me take her, and you go back to sleep. You had her for nine months. Stop hogging her already.”

Tara smiled and giggled as she struggled to stand from the swing. Willow helped her up and took the baby.

“I love you sweetie.” She kissed her wife. “And I love you too little one.” She kissed her daughter and walked into the house. She slowly climbed the stairs and slipped quietly into bed. She listened to the rocking of the swing and smiled at the thought of their special time together.

Willow and Abigail slipped back into their steady squeaking rhythm watching the clouds stream across the sky.

“Did you notice how beautiful your mommy is? She is the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. And that’s before I open my eyes.” She closed her eyes intricately etching the image of Tara in her mind. She smiled at every detail.

The creaking of the swing created a steady vibration as she drifted in thought. She rested the baby across her chest gently patting her back.

“What would you like to hear?”

She searched her mind for something appropriate and decided on something Tara might want them to teach her.

“Bide the Wiccan Law you must. In perfect love and perfect trust. Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill: An' ye harm none, do what ye will. What you send forth comes back to thee so ever mind the law of three. Follow this with mind and heart, Merry you shall meet, and merry you shall part.”

She patted the child gently.

“Your mom taught me that. She taught me about Love and trust. She’s a very good teacher.” She ran her fingers up and down the tiny spine of her daughter. Tracing tiny shapes across the fabric of her shirt. The child slept peacefully as they swayed back and forth. Willow worked very hard to stay awake.

“You’ll really like the way she loves you.” She whispered. “Nothing in this whole world will ever make you feel so wonderful.”

She noticed the child quietly sleeping across her. She stood to go inside. They climbed the stairs and tip toed into the bedroom. Willow eased Abbey gently into the cradle and slowly lowered herself into bed. As she rolled to kiss her wife she noticed her sorrow.

“Tara, are you okay?” She rubbed the soft skin of her side.

“No, I’m really not,” she answered through quiet tears.

“Tell me what’s wrong. Are you in pain?”

“I’m not in physical pain, if that’s what you mean.”

“Baby, please tell me what’s wrong.” Willow pulled her wife over on to her back. “Look at me.” Willow touched her chin gently urging it toward her. “Tell me what’s wrong. I love you. I’m here for you.”

“I heard you.”

“What? What did you hear?” She said as their eyes met.

“I heard you tell her the Wiccan Rede. I heard you tell her about being loved. I heard you promise to be there for her.”

Willow was confused. Why would these professions cause such sadness in her wife?

“And this made you cry?”

“Well yes. I mean no. Oh… I don’t know what I mean. Just forget it I think it’s just hormones.”

“No Baby, please tell me what’s wrong. Maybe I can help.”

“It’s your love, Will. The way you love me and the way you love Abbey.”

“And this makes you sad?”

Tara took a deep breath trying to explain. “I started thinking about my childhood.” She paused briefly. “I started to remember how horribly I was loved by the man I called my father.” Her tears were flowing as thoughts of suffering flashed through her mind.

“Baby…He’s not a part of us. He’ll never be a part of us.”

“No Will, he’s always going to be a part of me.” She tried to put distance between them but Willow drew her in tightly. “What if I do that? What if I hurt her the way he hurt me?”

“Tara…NO!” Willow was shocked that her wife could doubt her ability to love. “You just don’t have that in you. He was cruel and selfish and frightened. All of that, its not any part of who you are. It never has been.”

“But it was. I was so small. He made me feel so small. I never want her to feel that way.”

“She won’t. I’ll make sure of it.” Willow gently pulled Tara’s face to hers. “We’ll make sure of it.” She kissed her tenderly. “You are a wonderful human being Baby, a wonderful lover and a gentle mother.”

“I am now. But what if?” She looked away with shame.

Willow touched her finger to Tara’s lips stopping her words. “It’s not who you are. Just listen to me for one minute.” Willow shifted her body to hold her wife’s attention. “You are brave Tara Maclay-Rosenberg. For your entire life you believed you would become a horrible demon. Yet, you chose to be gentle and kind. That’s who you are. It’s who you’ll always be.”

“I’m not perfect Will.”

“Well no one is.” She smirked. “I’m a great example of that, but you still love me.”

“I do love you. You set me free,” her eyes begged for comfort. “I was so lost for so long, and you gave me a new life. If we’d never met, I’d still think I was a demon.”

“Maybe you would, but you’d still have a kind heart and you’d still be strong and gentle.”

“You don’t know that.” She turned away again.

“I do.” Willow answered harshly demanding her complete attention. “There’s one other thing that you’ve done.”

“What’s that?” Tara was interested in her next observation.

“You set our daughter free.”

“I did what?” Shock spread across her face as she felt the pang of accusation. She didn’t understand and she was frightened that she had already caused sorrow to her new born child.

“She’s the first woman born in your family that will not carry the burden of that lie. She will never know how it feels to be called a demon. She’ll never be beaten down for being a beautiful girl. You did that for her baby.”

Tara was shocked by the realization. She lay there trying to absorb the whole idea. Her tears were falling, but she was no longer sad.

“I never thought about it that way.” Tara felt a calm move through her body. “She’ll never have to hide her love. She’ll never have to be ashamed of who she is, and what she aspires to be.”

“See, I didn’t do that. You did.” Willow held her tightly as she kissed her softly on her lips. “You did all of that for her, for us. Your bravery and wisdom is what binds us together Tara. Please don’t ever doubt that.”

Tara had no words. She was speechless. All of the fears she’d been keeping were wiped away with a few simple words. Willow leaned in to kiss her wife gently. She tenderly wiped her tears and held her tightly.

“You can still make me feel like I’m the most wonderful woman in the world.”

“It really isn’t work on my end. I’ve only ever seen you that way.” Their bodies came together as the shifted to their sides.

“I know, and I’m not sure I’ve ever thanked you for that.” Tara pulled her lover’s arms tightly around her.

“I’ll give you a few weeks to recover, and then you can figure out a way to thank me properly.” She nuzzled her wife softly.

“A few weeks huh? Think you can wait that long?”

“I think I can wait forever, for you.”

Willow wondering how Sheila never felt the devotion for her daughter that she has for Abby. I thought it was really sweet that Willow was reading a computer magazine to her!

Tara's childhood memories causing self doubt. Love that Willow got her to realise how strong she really is.

Peace and love to you all

Just wanted to pop in and say thanks

Foreverpiper - Glad you got on board the Monopoly train. *toot toot * HEY MOLLY, You got a smilie train? Anya would only care that her game was interrupted. LOL

Mollyig - This one's for you. I just feel the love in this place. Thanks for reading. Oh wouldn't Willow grab a PC mag and just start reading. I just love to throw in a bit of quirkyness for here.

Tara's self doubt, how could she not have it. Abuse leaves scars the worst is that you'll pass it on. Getting it out in the open puts a real face on it.

Tara22 - Thanks so much. I'm happy you liked it. Oh I just want Happy moments, ya know. Just a bit of tenderness before they go off to dust something.

Enjoy all just a few more updates left. Then I'm working on the sequel. I'm addicted now. I can't stop.

The angsty sequel will begin where This Look of Love ends. How's that. Is that better.

But Im sure I will be able to overcome my fear of angst and read the sequel, too! ;)

Willow: We can come by between classes. Usually I use that time to copy over my class notes with a system of different colored pens. But it's been pointed out to me that that's, you know... insane.
Tara: I said quirky.
