Chapter Nine

“Master?”

Tara looked behind her, seeing Willow following at a respectful distance. The two had started moving shortly after Tara had woken up, heading towards the edge of the forest, intent on finding a way into Theed that didn’t involve dealing with the bulk of the Trade Federation army. With Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan gone, it would be up to them to do something. They had yet to encounter either retaliatory droid forces or helpful assistance, but that didn’t discourage either of them.

“Yes, Willow?” she asked.

Willow moved up beside Tara, wiping her Padawan braid back behind her ear. Ever since she had learned of her Master’s past the previous evening, there were many more questions she had wanted to ask. She knew that this wasn’t the most appropriate time to ask them, but she had gotten her to open up. And she wasn’t about to stop.

If she could say that she had any weaknesses, asking too many questions would definitely be it.

“Have you ever thought…about what would happen if…y’know, you decided to leave the Order?”

The question caused Tara to stop in her tracks, turning to Willow. “L…leave?”

Willow nodded. “Yeah. You know, like the Lost Twenty…”

She paused, realizing that she may have been somewhat inappropriate to compare her to those of the Lost Twenty, the only Jedi to have voluntarily left the Order. Bronzium busts of the Jedi were located in the Jedi Archives. Willow had spent many hours in there, devouring the knowledge contained with the Archive’s many holocrons.

“Willow…” Tara said, her voice becoming a hushed whisper.

Willow shifted her weight. “I’m sorry, Master. I didn’t mean…”

Tara gently put her hand on Willow’s shoulder. “Willow, you know what I am. What...I’ve always thought I was. The Jedi…they’ve given me a life. One I can be proud of. One I can use to correct the mistakes…”

Her voice stalled, realizing that she was including herself in the ‘mistakes’ she said that she was using her life to correct. It was the sort of self defeating thinking that she had let herself do for almost her entire adult life. It was what prevented her from being more open to others. It was what prevented her from being more open to Willow.

And it was preventing her from doing what she wanted most: admitting to Willow what she already knew. That her concern for her and her love was more than the usual Master/Padawan friendship.

Willow must have picked up on what she was thinking, because she said, “I still mean what I said last night, y’know. You’re not a mistake. And I still...”

Tara started to smile, her cheeks reddening fiercely. “Thank you, Willow.” She turned and started to walk forward again, Willow following into step behind her.

“Singing,” she said after a few moments.

Willow’s head perked up. “What, Master?”

Tara stopped and looked back at Willow, a half smile creeping onto her face. “If I wasn’t a Jedi, I’d probably be a singer. I often spent time as a Youngling singing in my quarters.” She gave a small laugh and grinned. “Master Halcyon had to request that the walls of our quarters be reinforced to make sure that nobody would be kept awake at night.” She sighed contently. “I could often imagine myself singing at the Galaxies Opera House.”

Willow smiled, glad that Tara was coming out of her shell a bit more. Singing wasn’t something she could picture her doing. Singing was something she knew she couldn’t do, at any rate. She had tried it several times, and the unfortunate Younglings that she had been near had told her in not-so-flattering terms that hers was a voice that should shatter ten inch transparisteel.

Tara turned to Willow. “What about you? Ever have any fantasies about what you ever wanted to do if you weren’t tasked with the whole ‘save the galaxy from evil’ job?”

Willow blushed, looking at her boots and shuffling uneasily. “Well, Master. I’ve always wanted to…explore the galaxy. Get to know some people. Kashyyyk and Ithor held particular interest to me. Being nature planets, you know. And I always wanted to visit Yavin IV.”

She gazed into Tara’s eyes. “And I always kinda hoped that you would have…you know, come with me.”

Tara’s face, which had been increasing with amusement as Willow told her story, suddenly fell. As much as she wanted to agree with her, she knew that it would never be allowed.

With sudden alarm, she realized why Willow had asked what she would do if she left the Order.

“Willow,” she said, her voice taking on a serious tone. “You know that we can’t do this.”

“But…but…” Willow pouted, unable to come up with anything to say.

“I feel the same way,” Tara interrupted. “But…we can’t.” She reached to take Willow’s arm, but the red haired Padawan shrugged it off, moving to sit down on a nearby tree trunk.

“We could…” Willow said, pausing a moment as she thought about what it was that she was going to say. “We could keep it a secret. I mean, we don’t have to tell anyone. And you know how good I am at keeping secrets. Well, not usually. But when I have to, I can keep my lips sealed tighter than a cockpit. I mean, there was this one time, during lightsaber training…”

Tara’s heart was near breaking at this point. She just couldn’t take it anymore. “Willow…Padawan,” she amended, desperately trying to maintain the level of professionalism that she had maintained around her and Willow. But it was no use. The past several hours had completely broken down her emotional barriers.

Willow suddenly became aware of how uncomfortable she was making her Master. “Master, I’m sorry if I…”

Suddenly, and without conscious thought, Tara took Willow into her arms and kissed her.

Both of them were completely taken by surprise by what was going on. Willow hadn’t really been expecting her Master to make such a bold action towards her. She had often dreamed that she would, hoped that she would. But there was a significant difference between what one wanted and what one got. Although she had often kept hoping that it would happen, she had long ago given up hope that Tara would be this forward.

For her part, Tara was rather shocked that she was being this assertive. Although she was rather impetuous in her youth, ever since learning the truth about herself, she had kept herself under even stricter guidelines and pressure than any Jedi could ask for oneself. It had given her a reputation for being introverted, shy and depressed, but she told herself that it was for the greater good, to ensure that what she had suffered would not happen to anyone else.

When she had met Willow, she had felt through the Force that a significant event had occurred, and that both of their lives would be better for it. And although Willow was willing to explore the possibility, Tara had always kept herself under a tight leash. She told herself that she was doing it to protect Willow. To protect herself. She realized now how much of a fool she was. Master Halcyon had always told her that she was special, and that she would find someone one day with whom she could share herself.

That was apparently coming true. And it had only taken the invasion and subjugation of a entire planet to make her see reason. By that logic, the implosion of Coruscant’s sun would no doubt having her walking down the altar with Willow on her arm and the pride of the Republic firing off a twenty turbolaster cannon salute in gratitude.

The two held the embrace, their lips locked together, pleasure radiating all over their bodies and through the Force. They didn’t want the feeling to end.

**

It was mid afternoon, and Nute Gunray did not feel any better than he had at sunrise. In fact, he felt worse now than he did at the start of the day. And he was a nervous wreck at the start of the day.

He turned to face Rune Haako, who had just entered the room. He knew that he wasn’t bringing good news. Good news seemed to be in short supply these days.

“Well?” he demanded.

Haako held his head. “We’ve been unable to locate the major resistance leaders, Viceroy. They appear to be in deep hiding, and our scouts have been unable to track them.”

Gunray sighed. There were times that a cheap and disposable army worked in the best interests in the Trade Federation. Tracking a handful of malcontents in the swamps and forests was not one of them. “And what of the two Jedi?”

Haako shook his head again. “The data recorder OOM-9 found in the wreckage of BAS-163’s AAT was apparently damaged beyond recovery. Our best slicer team is currently at work trying to recover the data, but probability estimates suggest that over 90% of the data is corrupted.”

Were he prone to such outbursts, Gunray would have physically threatened his lieutenant, or perhaps taken a blaster from the nearest droid and dispose of it. As it was, he was too nervous to even contemplate doing such actions. Lord Sidious had made it clear that he was most displeased with the turn of events that had occurred, and that his apprentice was now being sent out to clean up his mess. He didn’t know what that would involve, and frankly, he could spend the rest of his existence never to find out and be perfectly happy for it.

He sighed. “Order OOM-9 to gather all outlying forces that he can spare from all outlying outposts and guard stations and order them to return to Theed. They should arrive by nightfall. When they do, he will lead them into the swamps.”

Haako stood puzzled. “The…swamps, sir?”

Gunray nodded. “The townspeople speak of a race living in the swamps and marshes. The pitiful resistance appears to be based in that area. And the Jedi are no doubt there as well.” He turned and made a dismissive gesture, signaling to Haako that he was to withdraw.

“I think its about time we solved all of our problems. Once and for all.”

Hey Sith - glad to see that you have updated and what an update it is!

Tara has finally admitted her feelings to herself and feeling bold she has shared them with Willow - thank God! I can't wait to see what the Force has in store for our girls.

More please! :bounce

Wow, that was a wonderful kiss. I bet Kiss + Force = Wow. :bow Let them enjoy this moment, especially because there's lots of darkness ahead.

OOM-9, he's the yellow-headed droid commander in the floating tank, right? Nute Gunray, one of the favorite people to hate, really. I've read that it was actually Palpatine and Tarkin that got him in his position, and he thinks he's better than Sidious? Heh, the perfect stool-pigeon, really. It's amazing what a network of lies, egos, ambitions and promises Palpatine has made use of to create his conspiracy. He's the undisputed star of the prequel trilogy.

Reading this story and playing Empire at War wants to me start up a new game of Knights of the Old Republic. Heh, that game has my favorite SW character ever : HK-47. I guess it would be too much to hope for to have him show up as well. :) Though it's probably for the best. Poor Hk'd chafe considerably under Tara's commands, I bet.

HK-47 - Query : Blaster ready. Who do you want burned from the galaxy, master?

Tara - I told you, no k-killing.

HK-47 - Statement : Oh, very well, master. Shall I translate a 'fascinating' alien text then? Or perhaps you would like your lightsaber scrubbed? What's next? Basket-weaving?

Loved the chapter!
Max : Do you mind if I drive?
Sam : Not if you mind me clawing at the dashboard and shrieking like a cheerleader.

Sith, yay! I was glad to see that Tara acted without conscious thought because she has such mental discipline that she would have probably not done what she did if she had thought about it. Very cute about how Willow is very out there with her feelings and stuff about how she hoped that Tara would come with her.

How will they deal with this new development in their relationship? I can't wait to find out. I wonder if other Jedi or Sith can sense what is happening via the Force and if it will put them in danger.

Glad to oblige. :)

I'll let them enjoy it. For now.

OOM-9, he's the yellow-headed droid commander in the floating tank, right?

Yup.

It really is, isn't it? I think that's why so many people had problems with the prequels. The back and forth under the table sleaze wasn't what people wanted to see. I'm glad I can be getting into the details in this fic.

He's the undisputed star of the prequel trilogy.

Indeed.

Well actually, according to "Trials of Obi-Wan", he's actually still around at this point in history. As for him making an appearance...let's just say that you've given me some ideas I can work with later.

Sally:

Sith, yay! I was glad to see that Tara acted without conscious thought because she has such mental discipline that she would have probably not done what she did if she had thought about it.

Yeah. I think this is the defining moment of what's happened thus far. Although Willow's a bit rought around the edges when it comes to Jedi rules, Tara's been rather...strict when it comes to keeping herself from feeling emotion about anything. This, however, has opened the proverbial floodgates, and promises to make further things rather interesting.

Very cute about how Willow is very out there with her feelings and stuff about how she hoped that Tara would come with her.

Yeah. Padawan Willow's rather pushy when it comes to trying to get what she wants.

How will they deal with this new development in their relationship? I can't wait to find out. I wonder if other Jedi or Sith can sense what is happening via the Force and if it will put them in danger.
Well, if you've seen my basic outline for the fic in Beta Pens, you know that by the third story in this six story saga, one of them has got to fall to the Dark Side and that they have to go at each other. I'm not going to tell you who it is now (though given what I've already laid down, you can go either which way), but, as has already been hinted at, the two of them are about to become major thorns in Palpatine's side.
(As an aside, I must say I LOVE your new avatar! YUM!)

Willow certainly isn't afraid of risc, saying stuff like “And I always kinda hoped that you would have…you know, come with me.” is making her rather vulnerable. After all, what if Tara rejects the entire idea ?

Good thing Tara acted without thinking too much this time. That does make me wonder what will happen once the thinking starts again. I can see Willow thinking about breaking out of on order that imposes rules on her she doesn't like. Tara always has been somewhat more cooperative, wanting to be liked by people more.

I do hope Willow does pay attention to her environment while thinking about Tara's childhood and such. Being distracted in such a hostile environment can be fatal.

Oh yeah, as for this "Well, if you've seen my basic outline for the fic in Beta Pens" in the replies... please don't. There is a reason I don't read Beta Pens. I want to be somewhat surprised by the story (except for the W+T lovin' part of course).

Or put a spoiler tag over it :lol.

Indeed. Willow's always been a bit open when it comes to discussing things. And now that she's broken Tara out of her shell, she was kinda hoping to push it that much further. Of course, Tara sort of jumped to conclusions about it, and tried to close herself off. But she was too late.

Good thing Tara acted without thinking too much this time. That does make me wonder what will happen once the thinking starts again.

That's something I'm working on. And I can say with absolute confidence that it;ll become obvious soon.

I can see Willow thinking about breaking out of on order that imposes rules on her she doesn't like. Tara always has been somewhat more cooperative, wanting to be liked by people more.

It's one of the things that I like about putting the two of them in this sort of a situation. Being the stubborn independent type, Willow would always look to find the best way to do something to get what she wanted, even if she had to bend the rules a bit. For Tara, whose more conservative and who, because of how she thinks about herself, wants to be loved by those around her, is always looking to walk a tightrope of self control.

I do hope Willow does pay attention to her environment while thinking about Tara's childhood and such. Being distracted in such a hostile environment can be fatal.

Hmm. I don't wanna give anything away, but I can say that, aware or not, it probably won't do a whole lot of good.

OK. I'll edit that. :p

Ahhhh...smoochies abound. I always thought that the main problem in the SW saga -- not enough lovin'. Instead we get the usual "I love you."/"I know." :impatient

Looking forward to some serious action -- and a few lightsaber duels, too! :laugh Damn good so far.

Well, I've got five others after this one, so you won't have to wait long.

Really? Wow. I feel so honored. :blush I mean, I've been inspired by a lot of people here on the Kitten, but I never thought I would actually inspire anyone else. I mean, it was nice to get a wallpaper, but to encourage people to write fanfic? Wow. Just...wow.

I love your writing. thank you for what you've written so far.

Thanks! :D!

Also I loved who you picked for Tara's Jedi Master, He was Corrans Granfather and Corran was my favorite Star Wars Character of all time.

He's one of my favorites, too. And there's a lot of reasons why I chose him, all of which will be revealed in time. :)

Miss Kitty Fantastico:

Thank goodness Tara finally listened to her heart rather than her mind.

Yeah, it was fun to have Tara allow herself to open herself up fully to Willow in this way.

CaptMurdock:

Yeah. But don't worry. Now that the barn door is open, we're gonna get a lot of lurve going on now. ;)

Looking forward to some serious action -- and a few lightsaber duels, too! :laugh Damn good so far.

I was wondering if you ever considered creating pics for the story of willow and tara in Jedi garb or something along those lines?
If not I think it would be pretty cool.

Oh, yes. I had considered it. Unfortunately, I have no artistic talent whatsoever. So if any artists out there wanna give it a shot (hint, hint), you have my full support.

Awwwwww! That was a very touching chapter (in a good way). Though Willow going, "We could keep it a secret" fills me with a sense of foreboding, since that was what Anakin said to Padmé, and we all know how that turned out...

Count me among those who love to hate Nute Gunray. Sidious was grand evil; the Neimodians were spineless greedy pathetic played-like-puppets evil.

Hey now, don't knock the "I know"! IMHO, that scene is still a classic as far as shippiness goes. Recently, when I was re-watching ESB, I noticed that when Han is lowered into the carbon-freezing thing, not only does he hold Leia's gaze till the last possible moment, he even does some kind of small, stoic almost-smile, as if to assure her, "I'll be okay." (Pardon the tangent.)

i'm not possitive but I think someone posted something about Willow using Tara's old Lightsabre and I thought it sounded familiar that some Jedi used other Jedi's weapons. so I looked and found this, The Concordance of Fealty

"Master Eeth Koth, I have something to return to you. It is a product of your own hands which you once entrusted to mine. In returning this lightsaber, I return your trust."
— Master Mace Windu

The Jedi tradition of entrusting one's lightsaber to a fellow member of the order was called the Concordance of Fealty. This exchange represented a serious, even sacred bond. The exchange represented the establishment of a reciprocal, Master-less learning relationship.

And a quick question for SithLordWiccan, do you konw when you are going to post Ch.10?

Sith, sweetie. I am so sorry I didn't see this fic before now! Where have I been all this time? It's freakin' awesome! I've only just started so instead of leaving you feedback on these first chapters now, I'll get caught up and then come back with some much deserved feedbacky goodness.

But I will say this now: I am usually not too thrilled with this type of story...I'm not sure why...perhaps it was because I've been overloaded with star wars/star trek/star blah blah blah blah blah on and on and on, dating back to the time I was a kid (but that aside) Your fic grabbed me from the first few sentences and I know I'm going to like every minute of this tale.

Kudos

Recently, when I was re-watching ESB, I noticed that when Han is lowered into the carbon-freezing thing, not only does he hold Leia's gaze till the last possible moment, he even does some kind of small, stoic almost-smile, as if to assure her, "I'll be okay." (Pardon the tangent.)

Would it be too much of a tease to say that they'll be a few moments like that coming up?

Irene:

It has taken a few day but I'm finally able to sit down and provide you with updatey goodness. :-D

Cool! (I should probably point out that I don't care when I get updatey goodness as long as I do get updatey goodness. I will admit, I am a update whore. I live and breathe by the feedback I get.)

They kissed! Yippee!!! And what a kiss, Sith. I was shocked that is was Tara who initiated that. Bravo on her part and on yours for that surprise. Somehow I always figured that it would be Willow who would have done that. :wtkiss

Yeah. I figured that, having built up Willow as the one who most wanted to have :wtkiss , it would be fun to have Tara be the first to make a move.

Nute Gunray...hmm? Can we dispose of him now? :-D

Sadly, no. Per SW canon, he can't die for about another thirteen years.

Our girls are now heading into the swamps? For their sake, I hope they keep their wits about because what Gunray has in store for them does not seem like sunshine and puppies.

To be fair, though, its not like getting our girls is his primary objective. Remember that, as far as he knows, they could be dead. After all, they have no proof one way or the other. The main reason he's gathering up the droids is to go take out the Gungans. Finding Willow and Tara would be a secondary job.

Things are moving right along Sith, again I truly enjoy reading your version of this Star Wars Saga. Thank you for this wonderful W and T contribution. :bow

Thanks for the praise. :blush Though I should say that if you enjoy this, you're gonna love it when I get this done and am free to go 100% off tangent.

Willowlover:

i'm not possitive but I think someone posted something about Willow using Tara's old Lightsabre and I thought it sounded familiar that some Jedi used other Jedi's weapons. so I looked and found this, The Concordance of Fealty

Yeah, I mentioned that before.

And a quick question for SithLordWiccan, do you konw when you are going to post Ch.10?

Yeah. About this. Tonight was the first night for me performing in a local theatre group. I have to do it again tomorrow, next Friday and next Saturday. I'll also have a line read through on Tuesday and help with the set strike next Sunday.

Add to this the fact that I have two major school assignments due at the end of this month (neither of which I have yet to start), and you can pretty much assume that I won't be able to work full time on the fic. Notice the phrasing I use ("I won't be able to work full time). I will be working on it, though not as much as to justify a couple of chapter updates every week. Once my semester is done, I will have more free time with which to work.

Emms:

Sith, sweetie. I am so sorry I didn't see this fic before now! Where have I been all this time?

I'm just glad to have you onboard, Emms. Nice to know I have another reader out there.

It's freakin' awesome! I've only just started so instead of leaving you feedback on these first chapters now, I'll get caught up and then come back with some much deserved feedbacky goodness.

Thanks. And take your time with the feedback. It's all good. :)

Well, I can't guarantee that you'll like every minute, but I'm glad to hook you despite that. :)

And I will say again how much I'm surprised about getting positive feedback. My intention with this fic was to appeal to three different sets of people: Star Wars fans, W/T fans, and people who don't fall into either of the first two categories. The fact that I can get people who are mostly in the third category to read this is a great honor.

And, once again, I gotta say how amazed I am that I can inspire other people. I never thought it would be such a great feeling.

I haven't left feedback here yet, for which Sith has rightly kicked me in the butt :eyebrow As I've been beta'ing this so far, it's been interesting to see the story evolve, and have a hand in that - though it's only fair to say that with the last couple of chapters, my contribution has been little more than to correct the occasional typo and suggest a couple of word changes here and there.

The Willow-and-Tara-ness of the story has been entirely your work, and it's great. I especially like how their relationship is so entwined with the Jedi way - it's not just a matter of a regular love story with Star Wars grafted onto it (the mark of a lacking uberfic), the fact that they're Jedi, and both their histories in the Star Wars universe, are informing and affecting their relationship and their actions, without making them un-Willow or un-Tara in character. Nice work.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how our girls deal with the Federation advance into the wilderness areas, and whether they hook up with the Gungans in fighting back. And of course, seeing Darth Maul again - I like this version of him much more than the 'original'.

Well, I wouldn't say that, but I did encourage you to leave feedback.

As I've been beta'ing this so far, it's been interesting to see the story evolve, and have a hand in that - though it's only fair to say that with the last couple of chapters, my contribution has been little more than to correct the occasional typo and suggest a couple of word changes here and there.

And I can't thank you enough for it, man. I really can't.

Nice work.

I'm glad that you feel that way. It's really nice to hear I'm handling this aspect of the story so well, considering that it was the biggest problem I had when I first started.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how our girls deal with the Federation advance into the wilderness areas, and whether they hook up with the Gungans in fighting back.

Something tells me that will happen sooner rather than later.

And of course, seeing Darth Maul again - I like this version of him much more than the 'original'.

You should. You're the one who helped me out in that department.

G'day, Sith.

Well, better late than never, I guess, and at least this time I didn't miss an update. I swear, at times I seem to be getting lazier by the day.

Now, I must admit to something of a little conflict with this last update, not with it's quality, hell no, but rather with some questions that it posed, to me at least. What I'm babbling incoherently about is Willow's suggestions of leaving the Jedi Order so that she and Tara can be together in a big happy gay-love type way.

The conflict that I speak of is basically two different fandoms warring for supremacy in my deviant little mind. In one corner, we have the W/T fan, who is all for anything that brings our girls together, and all for feeding anything in the way of that slowly into a woodchipper. But in the other corner, we have the Star Wars fan thinking that if Willow is prepared to forgo being a Jedi so swiftly, without even sharing a kiss first, then perhaps she shouldn't be a Jedi in the first place. Thanks for that. :-D

I mean, there was this one time, during lightsaber training…”

:lol I love it when people can work in those sort of jokes! But I have to share the misgiving's other people have posted on the whole 'we can keep it a secret' thing. Somehow, I don't think that's ever going to work well, no matter what reality you're in. I can only imagine that it's like being in a relationship with someone who won't come out of the closet.

Then wham! Houston, we have kissage! :bounce

It was mid afternoon, and Nute Gunray did not feel any better than he had at sunrise. In fact, he felt worse now than he did at the start of the day. And he was a nervous wreck at the start of the day.

:lol Nute might be better off considering just swallowing a blaster bolt, methinks.

Great update, mate.

Cheers,
Paul.

It's cool. Update whenever you can, dude.

When you say "conflict", I kinda imagine that you had a problem with what I had done. But it looks to me that you didn't. Am I correct in that assumption?

I love it when people can work in those sort of jokes!

I'm glad that you noticed that joke. I thought it was kinda funny. (Ironically, I'm kinda amused by the fact that nobody caught the joke I inserted into the earlier chapters of the fic.)

But I have to share the misgiving's other people have posted on the whole 'we can keep it a secret' thing. Somehow, I don't think that's ever going to work well, no matter what reality you're in. *takes a minute to laugh about that South Park episode where Tom Cruise won't "come out of the closet", then composes himself*

Yeah, but you gotta remember that the Jedi frown down about that sort of thing, so if I have to have :wtkiss , its gotta be secret :wtkiss .

And yeah. I'm kinda proud of the whole :wtkiss . I mean, wouldn't you be?

Update to come tomorrow, barring homework and Chris being late with the beta.

Sith,

So I had this grand plan to start at page one, write a comment here and a comment there, but as all good plans do; it failed miserably. I have been so caught up in your descriptions and detailed characterizations that I have sailed through many chapter and have only realized at chapter six that I have not written a single thing for any of the previous five chapters Then before I knew it I had read every update posted and still nothing to show for it more than a few lines long. So I scrapped everything I had and decided simple is better.

My first thoughts upon reading this is: This dude has got it goin’ ON! I can tell that you are an expert on everything star wars and it really show’s in your writing. You are a very technical writer, yet you make it so simple to keep up with the story. I’m happy about that because I tend to get lost easily and then give up if things seem to drag on for too long. (I can’t even make it past that part in the bible where it goes on for ages about how this person was begat by that person and on and on and on and on…jeeze, just skip to the bloody part where we're all going to be killed in some type of fiery death and be done with it!) :lol (not that blood and fiery death is something to laugh about, mind you. :happy ) :-D

*Sighs dreamily* their first kiss was just…breathtaking…Jedi Tara is incredibly sexy and Willow is so…Willow. She’s sweet and quirky and just plain adorable. And it’s apparent she still has a lot to learn before she becomes a Jedi.

One question though:

“I’ve called Republic Security.

Is that kinda like CSD? (child services department?) :lol

Well…it seems as though I couldn’t find a lot to comment on…but rest assured I will continue to keep up with this fic, ‘cos I think your writing is absolutely FLAWLESS and I’m very much enjoying this story.

Emms: First off, let me just give a GREAT BIG THANK YOU for leaving feedbacky goodness. I don't think that I would be exaggerating to say that I've been waiting for this all week.

And now for the reply:

So I had this grand plan to start at page one, write a comment here and a comment there, but as all good plans do; it failed miserably. I have been so caught up in your descriptions and detailed characterizations that I have sailed through many chapter and have only realized at chapter six that I have not written a single thing for any of the previous five chapters Then before I knew it I had read every update posted and still nothing to show for it more than a few lines long. Wow. Let me say that if this is simple, I'd hate to see how long your "complicated" reply would have been. And to be honest, I would accept feedback in any form, from a simple "good job" to a three page essay detailing why this if the Best Fanfic Ever (I doubt I would ever get it, though. I'm just sayin', is all...)

I'm rather pleased that I was able to get you so hooked that you weren't able to leave proper feedback until Chapter Six, especially since, looking back on it, I don't consider it to be the best part of the story (I was literally writing them back to back, and knew I could have gotten them better than I did. But that's what happens when you start writing an idea that you just have to get out while the muse is working overtime. One of my other works is a perfect example of how bad writing a fic can be if you wait too long between updates to get inspired).

My first thoughts upon reading this is: This dude has got it goin’ ON! I can tell that you are an expert on everything star wars and it really show’s in your writing.

Well, I wouldn't exactly say I am a expert, though I do have an advanced understanding of how the universe works. If that makes me a geek, so be it. It's a label that, in this context, I can gladly accept. It's not like I'm the only one, after all. I mean, check out the Wookieepedia. I'm just one of many nuts in that mixed bag.

You are a very technical writer, yet you make it so simple to keep up with the story. I’m happy about that because I tend to get lost easily and then give up if things seem to drag on for too long.

I'm glad you can say that, because I've often been the harshest critic of my own writing (they do, after all, say your biggest critic is yourself). Again, an earlier work of mine shows how bad this sort of thing can go if left unchecked, so it makes me proud that I can pull it off here.

*Sighs dreamily* their first kiss was just…breathtaking…

Thanks for that. I still consider that one of the highlights of my saga thus far. (And believe me when I say that many more are yet to come.)

Jedi Tara is incredibly sexy and Willow is so…Willow. She’s sweet and quirky and just plain adorable. And it’s apparent she still has a lot to learn before she becomes a Jedi.

Well, I don't think that "sexy" is a term I could apply to Tara, at least in this context. I mean, yeah, we all thought she was sexy right from the start, but it was my intention (at least here) to show her much as she was in Season 4: Shy, introverted and so unsure of herself that she couldn't bring herself to say, do or think what she wanted without harming those around her. As for Willow, you're right. She's sweet, quirky, adorable...and has a lot to learn. ;)

Is that kinda like CSD? (child services department?) :lol

I guess. And that's all you're gonna get out of me about that. *shifty eyes*

Well…it seems as though I couldn’t find a lot to comment on…but rest assured I will continue to keep up with this fic, ‘cos I think your writing is absolutely FLAWLESS and I’m very much enjoying this story.

Well, I won't really mind if you don't leave a essay long feedback response, but I gotta say that if each one of your feedbacks is like this, I may need to rethink my "don't-get-a-swelled-head-over-this" policy. ;)

And a note to all readers: I hope to have Chapter Ten up tomorrow, if Chris can get it back to me with beta stuff. :)

Chapter Ten

The kiss had gone on for longer than Tara had thought possible. And what was even more surprising was that she didn’t want it to end. Every nerve cried out that what she was doing was wrong, that it went against everything she believed in, that it would lead her down a path she could never return from.

And yet, at the moment, she couldn’t care less.

Eventually, however, air began to be an issue, and their lips parted, though they remained in their embrace, staring into each others eyes.

The silence that had begun with the kiss stretched onward, neither of them willing to break the atmosphere that had been built with that single act.

“Wow,” Willow whispered.

Tara gave a shy half smile. “Wow.”

Willow felt her cheeks start to turn red, and slowly stared down at her boots, wishing that her hair was longer so she could use it to cover her face. At times like this, she figured, it was good to have red hair.

“I…I never thought…” Willow began with a stutter.

“I know,” Tara added, the smile on her face widening, betraying how much she enjoyed it. “I…I’ve always wanted to do…”

Willow’s eyebrows raised slightly. “Really? I…I mean…I always thought that you…”

Tara’s gaze shifted rather uncomfortably to the surrounding forest. “Even then, I…I want…want…thought that you needed to be with me.”

Willow’s brow creased in confusion, and Tara rushed to explain. “You remember the night we first met?”

Willow choked down a small laugh. “How could I forget? Wandering out of the Temple in the middle of the night isn’t something you’re likely to forget.”

Tara smiled briefly, then set her face in a neutral stance. “I felt something that night that I really couldn’t explain. At the time, I thought it was just nerves. After all, I was on my Trial, and that sort of thing could really…Anyway, when we got back to the Temple, I found out that the Council had planned to discharge you from the Order.”

Willow wasn’t rather surprised by the fact that Tara had said that. After all, for being a rather reckless Padawan, she had always known when not to cross the line too far. But when she decided to sneak out of the Temple, she knew that she was playing a dangerous game. “But how…”

“I spoke to the Council,” Tara said, a hint of sadness creeping into her voice. “I asked them to reconsider their actions, saying that you still had a life in the Order, and that potential such as yours should not be wasted.” She gave a lopsided smile. “I’ll never forget what Master Yoda said that day.” She cleared her throat, and her next words came out in a near imitation of the famed Master’s voice. “’Agree I do with Jedi Maclay’s assessment. Much potential for good in Youngling Rosenberg, there is. Believe I do that such potential would best serve the Republic if put under your guardianship she be.’”

Willow moved to Tara and wrapped her arms around her Master’s waist. “And that’s when they made you a Jedi Knight?”

Tara tilted her head to the side. “Yes.”

Willow rested her head on Tara’s shoulder, noting that she made no effort to repulse her actions. “I don’t know if I can ever thank you for all that you’ve done for me, Mas…” she caught herself and hastily amended herself. “Tara.”

Tara smiled and gently returned her embrace. “It’s OK, Willow. We’ve known each other for a while. You don’t have to keep calling me ‘Master.’”

Willow lifted her head and stared deeply into Tara’s eyes. “I know. It’s just…y’know, keeping within the rules of the Jedi and all…”

Tara couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle. “And yet you’re about to kiss me again.”

Willow blushed. “What can I say? I like to color outside the lines once and a while.”

The two shared another kiss, then took a look at their surroundings. “Glad no one’s spying on us.”

Tara smiled, then suddenly looked to the east. “I wouldn’t be too sure about that.”

Willow turned to look as well. “Trouble?”

“I don’t know,” Tara said as she shook her head. “But I definitely feel that there’s something wrong.” She moved off to the east, Willow following close behind. Approaching a nearby tree trunk, she saw several kaadu running through the swamps, astride which were several Gungans. Having prepared for the mission beforehand, both Willow and Tara knew that the kaadu was a typical mount for the amphibious race.

What both failed to understand was what it was that they were running from. Before either of them could comment on this, however, both felt a sharp jab in their lower back.

Turning, they both saw themselves staring down a pair of spear-like weapons being held by two Gungans, a third Gungan standing in between them, his eyes on both Willow and Tara and his face contorted in a frown.

“Mesa onlee gunna ask you da once,” he said after a few moments of silence. “Whosa you and whatsa you thinka you doin’?”

Tara began to stutter as she tried to reply, silently cursing herself for allowing herself to be caught unaware again. At least the Gungans weren’t as likely to kill her as the battle droids were. At least, she hoped so.

“We’re Jedi,” Willow said, attempting to cover up her Master’s pause. “We’re here to help.”

The Gungan snorted. “Ha! Wesa already see how you help, Jedi. Mesa though da Boss deal wit you, but mesa see that da Boss was wrong. Mebee we take you to see the Boss and he can deal wit you himself.”

As the two Gungans flanking him advanced to place binders on Tara and Willow, Willow moved to grab her lightsaber. “We’ll see about that…”

Tara moved to place her hand on Willow’s. “No, Willow.”

“But Master,” Willow began to protest. “We can’t let them take us!”

“We have to, Willow,” Tara gently admonished as one of the Gungans took her wrists and placed them within the binders. “We’ve been looking for them, and this seems to be the best way to do so.”

Willow removed her hands from her side and allowed her hands to be placed in the binders. “I don’t think I would have gotten there this way, though.”

**

Nute Gunray sat on his mechno chair as it walked throughout the palace corridor, feeling a sense of excitement that he thought that he would not have felt during this whole escapade. But this was an event that he knew would bring him pleasure, albeit fleeting.

Arriving at the throne room, he saw several of his fellow Neimoidians arrayed around the room, along with a couple of battle droids, all of whom had their blasters trained on the only humans in the room, one of whom was the planet’s governor. He turned to look as Gunray arrived in the room.

“This invasion will gain you nothing, Viceroy!” he shouted. “We shall remain defiant of you until the Queen has…”

Gunray raised his hand and waved off the accusatory retort. “It would do you more good to think of yourself, Governor. Your people are starving, and I can guarantee you that you yourself will die long before your Queen ever returns, if indeed she will.”

The governor stiffened. “We will not be intimidated, Viceroy.”

“Then you shall suffer,” Gunray said, his patience for dealing with the indignant human rapidly decreasing. “Take them away.”

As the battle droids moved to escort the humans out of the room, Rune Haako and OOM-9 approached, the former carrying a datapad, the latter a blaster rifle.

“We’ve managed to locate the most probable location of the main colony of these aquatic creatures,” Haako said, giving the datapad to Gunray. Gunray casually glanced at it before giving it back.

“My troops are fitted for submerged deployment, and ready to move in and eliminate them,” OOM-9 replied, his monotone voice conveying no emotion about the task it was about to perform. “We shall have completed our task by sunrise.”

Gunray dismissed both with a gesture, not bothering to say anything more. As unknown as these creatures were, they would no doubt be crushed by the weight of the droid army coming down on it. They were, for lack of a better term, no longer a problem.

He could not say the same for the Jedi, however. It had been nearly two days, and no word had been heard from them. He could not allow himself to believe that they were dead. Being overconfident had been what had led him to the situation he was now in.

Gunray turned to leave the throne room, his mind now on what he would do when this was all over.

Oooo that was good. So Willow and Tara have been captured. I guess Tara was right about how Jedi shouldn’t' let feelings get in the way. Perhaps if they hadn't been kissing then they would have heard the Gungans coming long before they were close enough to capture them. I just hope that this doesn’t solidify Tara’s resolve to keep her relationship with Willow purely professional. I get the sense that Tara’s need to protect Willow will surely outweigh the need she feels to be overly intimate with her if she feels that their feelings for each other is compromising their safety.

The bonding moment between Willow and Tara was well done. I liked that Tara is opening up more and letting her feelings out. Tara telling Willow about what happend the night they met was good for Willow, because it really helped Willow put into perspective just exactly how much Tara would do for her, if she could and I’m sure it was good for Tara too, because it was a little nod in the direction of her true feelings. I’m glad to see Tara sharing.

Oh and,

Well, I don't think that "sexy" is a term I could apply to Tara, at least in this context. I mean, yeah, we all thought she was sexy right from the start, but it was my intention (at least here) to show her much as she was in Season 4: Shy, introverted and so unsure of herself that she couldn't bring herself to say, do or think what she wanted without harming those around her.

Yes, but I think that’s what makes Tara sexy. She has all this stuff locked up inside of her, yet there is still this strength to her that says in no uncertain terms: that she would do what she needs to do to protect those she loves. It’s okay to be shy and unsure because it’s what’s underneath all that, that counts.

I think you’ve done an excellent job with this story so far. You’ve taken their canon persona, tweaked it a little and then placed them in this exotic background, yet still the reader is able to come away with the essence of the Willow and Tara we all know and love. You’ve made it a believable transition for them.

If anything I just said made any sense…

Really, really great update, sith.

Emms:

So Willow and Tara have been captured. I guess Tara was right about how Jedi shouldn’t' let feelings get in the way. Perhaps if they hadn't been kissing then they would have heard the Gungans coming long before they were close enough to capture them.

Maybe. Or maybe not. All will be revealed soon.

I just hope that this doesn’t solidify Tara’s resolve to keep her relationship with Willow purely professional. I get the sense that Tara’s need to protect Willow will surely outweigh the need she feels to be overly intimate with her if she feels that their feelings for each other is compromising their safety.

Well, Tara's beginning to open up to her feelings for Willow, so I would think it would be safe to say that the days of trying to keep their relationship "purely professional" are long over.

Thanks. It's really one of my favorite parts of the story to work on. Seeing as how I've always identified with Tara in some way, its kinda enjoyable for me to be able to write her the way I am here.

Well, when you put it like that, I guess you're right.

Thank you. It means a lot for me to be told that.

Oh, don't worry. I major in Not Making Sense. ;)
