Re: New Smut Fic: Long Weekend - Musical Annotation

Postby raspberryhat » Fri Jun 11, 2004 11:55 pm

When I wrote this I had very specific ideas on the music that accompanied certain scenes. Early on I had written musical annotations into the text, but after discussion decided to remove them as they interrupted the flow.

I had specific ideas because it was listening to some of these sounds that created some of the imagery in my mind in the first place. In other scenes, certain music I knew just fitted very naturally.

So, should anybody be interested...

Chapter 1. As Willow thinks back to earlier in the evening to how she ended up outside the club. She thinks back to the restaurant and all her friends.

The Beast by Milt Buckner from the Mulholland Drive soundtrack.

A little later, when Willow sees Tara dance for the first time. It was actually with this song that the whole idea really started.

Billy Bones by Monaco from the album Music for Pleasure.

The following night. Willow has returned to Eden and has accepted Tara's invitation. Willow is waiting for Tara...

The Pink Room by Angelo Badalamenti from the soundtrack to Twin Peaks, Fire Walk with Me

Chapter 2. As Willow enters Tara's apartment for the first time and starts to look around. The first time I heard this, I saw Tara's apartment in its entirety.

"Little Death Orchestra" by Little Death Orchestra from their debut album Little Death Orchestra.

Chapter 3. As Willow wakes up with Tara for the first time.

Tiny Crescent Sun by Little Death Orchestra from their debut album Little Death Orchestra.

And there we have it.

Here I was a couple of hours ago, bored. Thought I could look through the completed archive for a fic. This title caught me eye. Granted, I expected something else and I had the vague feeling I had read the story before. But I was sooo wrong! Totally different story, such a great concept! The charaters were really believable and real. The ending was just brilliant. When I stumbled across 'Jonathan' I was like... wait a minute. But then I reread the sentence and I was totally amazed. Dont think I have ever encountered such a unique surprise before.
Thanks for sharing this with us!
