Chapter 1: Walking And Talking
Willow, Tara and Buffy are walking across campus. It’s night time.
Buffy: And this vamp is running at me so fast I don’t even get time to pull out my stake, so I…um, hello? Guys?
Willow and Tara are whispering amongst themselves.
Buffy: Guys? Guys!
Willow: What? Oh…um, sorry Buffy. I kinda…
Buffy: Yeah, yeah. Witch-y stuff…I know.
Willow and Tara smile at each other.
Willow: So, um…how goes the slaying?
Buffy: (Rolls her eyes) You weren’t listening at all, were you?
Willow: I was! Well…(sheepishly) were you talking about the uses of newt eyes or the next spell Tara and me are going to do?
Buffy: (Sarcasm kicks in) Yes. That’s exactly what I was talking about.
Smiles are exchanged once again.
Tara: Um…my stop.
Willow: *Pouts* Okay.
Buffy: Do you want us to walk you to you dorm?
Tara: No, that’s okay. I-I’ll be fine.
Buffy: You sure?
Willow: There might be a Tara-eating monster lurking in the bushes.
Tara: (Smiling) I’ll be fine.
Willow: Okay. Well I’ll see you tomorrow.
Tara: Yeah. See you tomorrow. Bye.
Tara leaves and walks towards her dorm, but not before giving Willow’s hand a quick squeeze. Buffy notices this but does nothing apart from raise an eyebrow.
Willow: So about the slaying.
Buffy: Tara’s nice.
Willow: (Taken slightly aback) Yeah…but what’s that got to do with slaying?
Buffy: Nothing at all. It’s just…she seems really nice, that’s all.
Willow: She is. She’s a really powerful witch too. And she knows loads about spells and…
As Willow rambles, Buffy notices a glint in her eyes, a glint that Buffy remembers well. A glint that says ‘I’m crazy about this person.’
She used to get that look about Oz.
But there’s something else there…something that says ‘I need help.’
Then it hit her. It hit Buffy like a ton of bricks.
My god. She doesn’t know. She doesn’t know!
Willow: Now who’s the one not listening?
Buffy: Huh?
Willow: Well, I said your name about ten times before you answered. So you were either not listening or you have a hearing problem.
Buffy: I’m sorry, Will. I’ve got a lot on my mind.
Willow: You wanna talk about it?
Buffy: (Thinks) Um…no. Not yet.
Chapter 2: Thoughts and actions.
Cut to Buffy and Willow in bed. (Err…different beds, that is.)
Willow is asleep…Buffy is lying awake.
She loves her. Willow loves Tara. Um…sounds a little weird…but I could get used to it. Wait. What am I doing? She doesn’t even know she likes her! I’ve got to tell her…or at least let her know. What the hell would I say to her? ‘Hey Willow. How was class? Oh and by the way, you’ve got a major jones for Tara only you don’t know you do.’ Yeah that doesn’t sound stupid. I can’t believe she doesn’t see it!
Willow stirs in the bed across for Buffy, making the slayer look across.
She’s either blind or stupid.
Cut to Tara’s dorm room.
She is lying on her bed writing in her diary.
Dear diary,
I’ve done it again. I’ve fallen in love with someone I can never have. Willow. Every time I see her it’s like my heart stops and I die…but just for a second because when she smiles, I find I can breath again. Sure I’ve felt like this before…but I never felt like *this*. I can’t explain it…there are no words for what I feel…just actions I suppose. I’m gonna have to tell her. It either that or my head explodes with confusion. But if I do tell her…things wouldn’t ever be the same. She can never feel love for me…no one ever has…no one ever will.
Cut to Sunnydale cafeteria. It’s morning.
Willow and Buffy are sitting at a table eating breakfast.
Willow: I was talking…again?
Buffy: Yeah. It must have been some dream.
Willow: It was…I mean, yeah.
Buffy: (Smiling) You been having them a lot lately?
Willow: Every other night.
Buffy: About anyone in particular?
Willow: (Lying, badly) No! I-I mean…no.
Buffy: (Smiling) Whatever. I mean if you-
Willow: Tara!
Buffy: and…huh?
Tara: Hey.
Buffy: Oh. Hey Tara.
Willow: Hi. You got class?
Tara shakes her head.
Willow: Cool. Me neither.
Willow smiles at Tara and Tara returns it. The doesn’t go unnoticed to Buffy.
Buffy: Planning anything in that head of yours Will.
Willow: Um…n-no.
Buffy: Huh. Well unlike you slackers, I’ve got to get to class.
Willow: See you later…or is it Riley day?
Buffy: I said I’d go see him…but I’ll see you later.
Willow: Okay. Bye Buffy.
Tara: Bye.
Chapter 3: A picnic, some sun, a happy day. Part 1
Cut to Tara’s dorm room later that day.
Willow: Well there’s a show on in the drama hall…we could go to that.
Tara: As you like it?
Willow: Yeah.
Tara: I’ve um…I saw it already.
Willow: Oh. Okay.
There’s a moment of silence while the girls think.
Tara: H-how about a p-picnic?
Willow: A…a picnic?
Tara: Yeah. We-we don’t have to, I just-
Willow: Sun, field, blanket, food. Sounds good.
Tara: (Smiling) Good.
Willow: (Smiling) Okay. I’ll go back down to the cafeteria and pick us up some sandwiches.
Tara: A-and I’ll stay here and fix us up some drinks and find a picnic basket. O-or any kind of basket.
Willow: (Getting up off the floor) I’ll see you in a bit then. Oh and don’t forget a blanket.
Tara: Right.
Willow leaves the dorm and Tara goes in search of the basket.
This is gonna be fun. A picnic and Willow. But this isn’t a date. This is *so* not a date.
Cut to Willow in cafeteria.
It’s really sunny outside. Perfect picnic weather. Me, a picnic and Tara. Wait. Me…a picnic…and Tara. My god! It’s a date! No…pull yourself together Will. It’s not date. Why would Tara take you on a date? Ha! Date.
Cut back to Tara’s room.
There’s a knock at the door and Tara goes to answer it.
Tara: Willow…you don’t have to knock anymore.
Willow: (Trying to sound playful) What if I walk in on you and some guy?
Not a lot of chance of that happening.
Tara: You still don’t have to knock.
Willow: (Smiling) Okay. From now on I’ll just come barging in.
Tara: (Smiling) Good.
Beat.
Willow: You got the blanket and the drinks?
Tara: Yeah, and the basket. You got the sandwiches?
Willow: Uh-huh.
Tara: (Walking towards the door) Well let’s go then.
Willow: (Following) Right. Let’s go…to the field, for a picnic.
This is *so* not a date.
Not a date. Just a picnic. Not a date.
Chapter 3: A picnic, some sun, a happy day. Part 2.
Cut to Campus.
The girls have picked a nice half-shaded/half-sunny spot under a tree. They are sitting on a red fuzzy blanket eating.
Tara: So, Buffy nearly married Spike and Giles went blind.
Willow: Yeah. Well, I kinda turned Xander into a demon magnet, but…yeah.
Tara: (Laughs) God Willow.
Willow: It’s not funny! Giles couldn’t see, there were demons coming from everywhere and-and-and…(bursts out laughing) and Buffy was kissing…Spike!
The two girls are laughing so hard that Tara falls backward.
Willow: (Trying to be serious) But seriously…it wasn’t that funny.
This just makes Tara laugh harder.
Both girls just stay laughing for a moment before Tara tries to get up.
Willow: Where you going?
Tara: Just stretching. My ribs are aching.
Willow: (Mutters, smiling) It wasn’t that funny.
Tara erupts into a fit of giggles and loses her balance, falling on top of Willow.
As Tara lands on Willow the laughter-fest begins.
After a while the girls finally calm down and stop laughing.
Then Tara realises where she is and wonders why Willow hasn’t asked her to ‘get off’.
Willow is thinking the same.
Half of Tara’s body is covering Willow and the other half in on the blanket. Willow’s hands are on Tara’s back and Tara’s head is buried in Willow’s shoulder and both girls are breathing heavily
This is strangely comfortable. Tara isn’t even that heavy…not that I thought she was.
She’s warm…lot’s of body heat. Nice.
Without thinking Willow starts to stroke Tara’s hair. And Tara doesn’t say anything.
Then Willow moves her hands a little further down Tara’s back.
Tara: (Lifts her head up but doesn’t move off Willow) Um…W-Willow?
Willow: Goddess…s-s-sorry.
Tara: It’s okay…I-I-I-
Willow: No. It’s not okay. I mean you’re my friend and I can’t just start liking you, liking you. I-I shouldn’t be thinking stuff like this…you’re my friend and-
It was at that point Tara cut off her friends babbling and kissed Willow.
Willow: …and, wow.
Tara sits up and looks down at her feet, letting her hair fall over her face.
Tara: S-s-sorry.
Willow: What for?
Tara: Well, um…kissing you.
Willow: Why sorry?
Tara: I-I shouldn’t have done it.
Willow: Cause, we’re friends?
Tara: Yeah. Cause we’re…friends.
There’s a pause while Willow tries to conger up a sentence that will tell Tara how she feels.
Willow: What if I said…I wanted to be more than friends?
Tara: What?
Willow: More…than…friends.
Tara: I’d say…I’d say…I’d…
It’s then something in Willow’s brain clicks and tells her what she needs to say.
Willow: Tara…I love you.
Tara: You…what?
Willow: I love you.
Tara: Oh…well then I think you should know that…I kinda…love you too.
Willow: (Smiling) You do?
Tara: Since the first time I saw you…I knew
Willow is smiling so much now her face must be hurting.
Willow: The Wicca meeting?
Tara just nods.
Willow: Me too.
Willow leans in and kisses Tara.
Then…they finish their picnic.
End.
