Postby Bagheera » Fri Jul 12, 2002 12:11 am

steph - oh, it was you, I wondered. Updates have been forwarded to DarkWiccan sans formatting errors, so all should be okay.

xita - though perhaps after the bathroom encounter with Spike, Buffy's gone off the idea. Maybe Tara got an inkling of that? Actually, I just couldn't envisage the scene, Buffy walks in - :jaw Nope, I like Willow's bad idea better, and how else could Tara have said that cute double entendre line about going "back into the closet"?

ZipityDoDa - Thanks ever so. I love it when people say they're curious. Someone posting "I know how this will end", other than the obvious Willow & Tara in each others arms getting with the happy, would be death to me.

See you all in a week and a half or so, Kittens!

Bagheera out.

“Mission Statement”

Episode 1.3 “Willow’s Really Bad Idea” Part 1

Premise: S7 Speculation. S6 happened, but it was all a terrible mistake. In S7, we try to get things right for W/T in an epic story arc. See also the more detailed exposition at the beginning of episode 1.1.

Update: Tara has returned to Willow as a vampire, but their love for one another is unchanged, except that Tara doesn’t need to breathe when she heads downtown. Tara is hiding in Willow’s bedroom while the pair figure out what to do.

Rating: PG-13 Adult themes, sexual references, failed sophomoric attempts at humour (there was one in the paragraph above).

Sunrise found the two lovers in a languid embrace on the bed, asleep. They had been careful to tightly draw the blinds during the night, so that no potentially deadly rays of light penetrated the room. In any case, Tara was sleeping on the side of the bed furthest from the window, Willow’s body giving her what additional protection the slender redhead could manage.

Willow woke first, raised her head and regarded the curved alabaster form of her beloved (she stopped short of thinking of her as her soul mate for the moment). The redhead smiled. Perhaps it wasn’t a dream after all. Then, she carefully pulled up the sheet to cover Tara, leaving just the tiniest tuft of tangled golden hair showing on the pillow. Willow crossed to the closet, found a fresh towel and laid out an outfit for Tara from the wardrobe; she had never been able to bring herself to empty the room of her dead lover’s clothes, and neither Dawn nor Buffy had ever pressed the point, either. The redhead then padded down the corridor to the bathroom.

When she returned, Tara was awake and sitting up on the bed, pulling on her underwear. The two conspirators regarded each other silently. Willow closed the door behind her and crossed to the closet to get her clothes. She turned.

“Are you ready for this?” Will asked.

“Maybe, I don’t know. This won’t work forever. Sooner or later, they’ll find out about you, and they’ll punish you.”

“I just want to buy some time,” Willow argued.

“I still think I should go and find a nice crypt to hide in. Or maybe Angel’s mansion. You could sneak over for illicit liaisons…” the vampire hinted, smiling.

“The way Buffy did when Angel came back? I don’t want that. I’m selfish enough to want to curl up with you every night, no excuses.” Tara smiled, understanding. “Besides, once I start going out on my own, they’re going to get suspicious, and the next thing you know…”

“Xander will follow you and find you in the arms of your demon lover, and he’s always so full of understanding when that happens,” Tara said sarcastically. Willow raised her eyebrows and gave Tara her sad, resigned expression to show that she agreed. “So, how do we handle the day?” the blonde asked.

“Dawn first; if Dawnie’s okay, we tell everyone else over dinner.”

“Fine,” the vampire agreed. “Well, Dawn’s upstairs in her room at the moment, and Buffy’s dressed and downstairs fixing breakfast.” Off Willow’s puzzled look, Tara said, “Must be my vampire senses. I can hear them and smell them from here. By the way, I’m getting hungry. Very - hungry.” The vampire moistened her lips with her tongue for emphasis.

“Please wait until I bring something home for you at lunch time. I promise I won’t be late. And - and don’t worry about Buffy, she leaves before Dawnie most mornings.” Tara nodded and the pair continued dressing in silence.

Buffy was already on her way out the front door and Dawn was downstairs eating breakfast by the time Willow entered the kitchen. She called a brief goodbye to Buffy and sat down at the table opposite the Slayer’s sister.

“You’d better hurry up if you don’t want Anya on your back all day. She sounded pretty pissed on the phone last night,” Dawn observed over her cereal bowl.

“Yeah,” Willow said. Oh great start Willow, good time to be monosyllabic, she thought. “Dawn, um, have you got five minutes?”

Dawn stopped eating and regarded Willow. “Okay, sure.”

Willow took a deep breath and plunged in. “I never really told you much about what happened to me in England, have I?”

“Giles told us a little. He said that you might not come back the same…”

Willow cast her eyes down. “That’s true. I’m not a junkie any more.”

“Willow!”

“Call it what you want - addictive personality, means the same thing. But, Dawn,” Willow went on, taking Dawn’s hand, “the important thing is, I’m different. Though in some ways I guess that I’m - less - than what I was.”

“Willow, no, you mustn’t…”

“Say it? It can be true, but I’m not allowed to say it?” Willow looked sternly at Dawn, who blushed, took her hand away and placed it in her lap.

“I’m sorry; I didn’t mean it like that. I just - don’t want you to keep hurting yourself about it.”

“That’s just the trouble, Dawn. When Giles took me to England, I was out of my mind with the pain. They took it away when they cured my - addiction. But I’m still - numb a lot of the time, I’ve never properly been able to grieve for…Tara.” At the mention of the dead witch’s name, Dawn’s eyes moistened. Willow went on. “You stayed with her body, didn’t you? You helped dress her and you did her hair up nice, didn’t you?” Dawn sniffled and nodded, remembering those awful days. “Thank you. You were there at the funeral. I missed all of that. I’m still missing it. I miss Tara.”

“So do I,” Dawn sobbed, her eyes damp.

“But you see, when Tara was - died, Willow - the old Willow - couldn’t live without her. She still can’t. Old Willow’s gone. I’m not her, I’m not-quite-Willow now.” Dawn looked puzzled, wondering where this was going. “Now, not-quite-Willow still wants Tara in her life. That’s not possible, but if it’s okay, not-quite-Willow would like to have not-quite-Tara...in her life.”

Dawn reacted at this. Her eyes widened, her nostrils flared and she jumped to her feet. “What do you mean?” she demanded. “Not-quite-Tara? What are you talking about?”

“No magic, no resurrection…” Willow began.

“A bot,” Dawn said suddenly. She looked Willow in the eyes, stepped around the dining table and took Willow by the arm. “You’ve made a bot!”

Willow looked down and nodded. “Do you understand why I need to do this? Do you remember what you said that morning when Tara and I got back together? It was forever for us; there can never be anyone else for me, and if this is the only way…”

“Is she here?” Dawn asked quietly.

“Upstairs.”

“Can I see?”

Willow silently led Dawn up to the bedroom and knocked gently on the door. From behind the door came a quiet, “come in.” Tara was sitting on the bed dressed in jeans and a sweat shirt. Her hair was freshly brushed and her posture was a bit too stiff and straight. Dawn hovered at the threshold and regarded the apparition with wide eyes. Tara stood and walked towards the young blonde, smiling slightly.

“Hello, Dawn,” Tara smiled, holding out a hand. Dawn took it automatically, but it lay limply in Tara’s hand. “My, you’re taller than Buffy now, aren’t you? You know, you have her eyes. There a slightly different colour, but they’re the same, do you know what I mean?”

“Does Buffy know?” Dawn asked Willow, though she continued to stare at the “bot”.

“Not yet,” Willow answered. “I only brought Tara home last night, that’s why there was the mix-up at the shop. Please don’t tell Buffy; I’ll have everyone around for dinner tonight and tell them then.”

“I’m not surprised at all,” Dawn said, almost to herself. “Tara told me that a part of her would always be here with us. She told me lots of times. She said it right after - before you two got back together. I have to go to class now,” Dawn added suddenly, still unable to take her eyes off Tara.

“Dawnie, did you hear what I said? Please, don’t tell Buffy.”

“I’ll see you later, okay?” And Dawn was off down the stairs and out the front door, closing it behind her with a bang.

“I thought that went quite well,” Tara said after a moment.

“Well? What do you mean, I think she’s freaked.”

“For starters,” Tara shrugged, “at least she’s not yelling ‘Get out! Get out!’ That’s got to be an improvement.”

“Tara, have you always had that ironic sense of humour?”

“Always. I just never needed it so much before.”

“And on that note, I’d better get to work,” Willow said. “You’ll be okay?” Tara smiled, nodded, and they shared a lingering goodbye kiss.

From the upstairs window, Tara gazed after the departing figure of the woman she adored. A pained sigh escaped the vampire’s lips and she shook her head. “Oh Willow, Willow,” she said quietly, “what have they done to you?” Vampires have truly exceptional hearing.

Hm. Very interesting. They're able to fool Dawn, but just how will they fool Buffy? Won't her Slayer senses kick off in the presence of Tara?

I guess we'll have to wait and see. :) Great update!

Interesting plan, saying she's TaraBot. It's still not the truth, though, and that never leads to good things...

Episode 1.3 “Willow’s Really Bad Idea” Part 2

Rating: PG13 adult themes

After the apocalyptic battle at the Magic Box and the earth tremor that followed, the shop had been an utter shambles. The insurance claim assessor had made the following succinct entry on the form: “These premises look as if they have been chewed up and expectorated.” The fittings and contents of the shop had been completely written off, and cheques had duly arrived. Xander had called in a couple of major favours and the interior of the Magic Box had been swiftly rebuilt. New stock was ordered, although whatever items they had been able to find in the wreckage that were not completely ruined, they had packed in boxes and stored in the basement. Most of them were still down there, sealed, the laborious job of unpacking and sorting another item on Willow’s job description. Anya was planning to sell some of the blank magic books, sucked clean by Willow on her Dark Magic rampage, as journals and diaries.

The shop’s front door bell tinged and Willow rushed in, a little out of breath. She was perhaps a minute late. Anya scowled at her, and feeling a need to pre-empt the vengeance demon, the redhead spoke first.

“I’m so sorry I’m late, Anya,” she gushed, “I had something important to discuss with Dawn. And, the - the front door? Won’t happen again, absolutely not. Are you free for dinner tonight at Buffy’s?”

The wind taken out of her carping sails, Anya said merely, “That would be nice. Customers?” she pointed out a couple of shoppers browsing the corners of the store. Willow donned her smile and went to serve them.

A few minutes and a couple of lucrative transactions later, the shop was momentarily empty. Willow closed the cash register carefully, looked across at Anya and asked casually, “So, have you granted any good wishes lately?”

Anya, startled, roused herself from the comfort zone of the back order book and said, “Me? No, vengeance is very quiet at the moment, though I dare say it will pick up again soon. It always does.” The blonde demon looked about the shop. “Oh. If there are no customers, why don’t you go down to the basement and sort through another box from the salvaged stock? I’ll call you if it gets busy.”

Willow muttered to herself as she descended the narrow steps, “Oh, great Willow, ‘granted any good wishes lately?’ That was very subtle. Bound to get to the truth that way.” Actually, she reflected, it probably was the best way to get the truth out of the unsubtle Anya. Willow remembered Xander telling her that Anya used to run on and on about all the men she had dispensed justice upon and the wishes their jilted lovers had made. She had never been one to conceal the things she did; rather, she revelled in it. Willow paused. She ran the brief conversation back in her head. Anya had seemed genuinely surprised by the question. There was also the unanswerable question of how bringing Tara back to life, let alone her becoming a vampire, could possibly be an act of vengeance on an unfaithful male. It didn’t make sense when you looked at it. If Giles was around instead of back in England, it would be research time.

And what about this morning’s conversation? “Not-quite-Willow?” Where the frilly heck did that come from? Is that the way you feel? Willow almost heard Tara’s voice ask inside her head. Yes or no? S. O. R. T. O. F.? Shaking her head, Willow got back to work.

The next box to be unpacked was just like any other; stiff cardboard, about two feet per side and sealed with a couple of rounds of packing tape. Willow stripped the tape off and tossed it in the trash. The first item was a scrap of curtain, stuffed in to protect the other contents. It was torn and soiled, but could be cut into pieces and used for dusters. She folded it and put on the shelf reserved for cleaning supplies. Next were a couple of copies of “Wicca World”; out of date. One had a badly torn cover and Willow put it out for recycling; the other could go upstairs in the back issues section. There were three bulky candles; one was badly cracked and went into the trash, the others needed a polish but could then go on sale. They were nice scented ones and still seemed fresh. Then there were four spell books, all now with blank pages. Two had badly torn jackets which Willow discarded. The others were intact and had attractive covers; they and the pages from the other two would go into the stationery section. Willow viewed them dispassionately; after she had returned from her trip to the Devonshire coven, she had given up tearing herself apart with guilt over how far she had gone with dark magic. She recalled her confession to Tara the previous night; she had not cried like that, opened her heart up, for many weeks. Something about Tara always reaches to my depths, the redhead thought.

The last item was a deck of tarot cards, slightly worn, tied with a rainbow ribbon, without their original box and therefore unsuitable for sale. Willow froze. As if from nowhere, she felt a profound sadness diffuse through her. These were Tara’s cards, of that she had no doubt. Willow turned the cards over and over, looking at them with moistening eyes. She noticed that the backs of the cards were showing on both sides of the pack; some of them were around the wrong way. She took hold of the knot in the ribbon, intending to untie it and sort the cards. Tara might like to have it as a keepsake.

Ever afterwards, Willow swore that it felt as if a warm gentle hand had laid slender fingers over her own and stopped her from untying the ribbon. She felt the hairs on the back of her neck stiffen and she instinctively turned, certain that there was a presence in the room. But she was alone. The redhead held her breath and put the cards down, looking at them and the ribbon again. They had belonged to the real living Tara, not the strange and at times frightening version now resting in Willow’s bedroom. Willow thought back to a conversation from long ago:

“...I kind of like having something that’s just, you know, mine…”

“I am, you know…yours.”

Willow picked them up again and gently pressed the edge of the deck of cards against her lips and tucked them away on a high shelf. Then she went back upstairs with the items to be returned to stock. Anya was about to slip out to the bank for a few minutes and was grateful for the redhead’s timely return. Willow smiled and used Anya’s current good mood to arrange cover for lunch. While Anya was out, Willow left a message on Xander’s voice-mail inviting him to come around for dinner that evening.

Postby Bagheera » Sat Jul 20, 2002 5:50 am

Firstly, big thankyous to DarkWiccan for an exemplary job looking after my updates.

steph - Hi and thanks

AutumnT - I wondered if the reference to "GOGOGO The Series" would amuse. Thanks.

LeatherQueen - Re: Buffy's Slayer sense - didn't work that well with Angel. Have to wait and see how it goes with Tara. Re Part 2 - Thank you.

Xita - Re: Willow in England. I have to rely on the shooting scripts for my sources, since the S6 finale has not aired in this country yet, but there are explicit references to Willow undergoing some serious deprogramming at the hands of the Devonshire Wiccan Mafia. More on this will follow - naturally. Re Part 2: Yes, exactly.

Kalita - Hi! Glad you're intrigued.

eccentrictulip - Thank you. It think it's nice if Tara and Willow both have a journey to undertake. More symmetry in the story that way.

Thanatopsis - Thank you - Buffy's reaction to Tarabot is coming very soon. Re Part 2: But not quite yet.

ZipityDoDa - Re Part 1: Well, it was Willow's Really Bad Idea, after all. Re Part 2: Thanks.

willntlover - Thank you, more coming soon.

the vamp nurd - Thank you very much

Well, I'm back. I have some transcribing to do tonight, but I should be able to post 1.3.3 tomorrow.

"Willow's Really Bad Idea" Part 3

Postby Bagheera » Sat Jul 20, 2002 5:48 pm

Rating: M15 Adult themes, sexual references, silliness

The remains of a bucket of fried chicken pieces lay heaped in a bowl on the table. The vegetables had been shared out. The ice cream was about to join the list of casualties. Xander, Anya, Buffy, Dawn and Willow sat around the dining table, nearing the point of pleasant satiety. Tara was safely tucked away upstairs. Dawn had been very quiet all evening. Xander and Anya were not sitting together but seemed civil enough.

Willow carried away the empty dishes, taking the opportunity of a moment alone in the kitchen to gather her courage. Not-quite-Willow is not quite going to do it tonight, she thought. She took a single deep cleansing breath. That’s your cue, Willow. Enters, stage left.

“I wanted you all here tonight to tell you something important,” Willow began. She glanced over at Dawn for a moment. The teenager’s expression was unreadable. “I know it’s something – someone we don’t talk about a lot, but she’s on my mind all the time. I’m talking about Tara.” Willow looked around at the suddenly pained faces looking at her. “I know she meant a lot to all of you, but to me she was my – my world, my everything.”

“I wasn’t there for the funeral, and even apart from what happened to me in England, I want you all to understand that I haven’t properly said goodbye to Tara yet. In fact, I think it’ll probably take me a lifetime to say all the things I needed – need, to say to her. I guess some of you are waiting for me to do what I have to do, get over it, get back on the horse and date again. I can’t do it. I just – can’t. That pretty much gives me a choice; I could be a sad lonely lesbian spinster for the rest of my life…”

“That would be a cliché,” Dawn put in. Heads turned in her direction. “We’re doing some Media Studies stuff at school.”

“Thank you, Dawn,” Willow whispered. Aloud, she continued: “I don’t like that choice. That’s why I’ve done something you guys might be, um, disturbed by.”

Willow looked around at a table of blank looks. “I’ve made a bot,” she said simply, and lowered her eyes. She sat down quietly at the table and waited for a response.

“You know Will,” Xander was first to respond, “All of us are here for you if you need someone to talk to...”

“I know, I know,” Willow said, “You’ve all been super nice and supportive but, like I said, there are things I have to work through, to say, that I could only ever talk about with one person. No counsellor, no shrinks. I’m sorry.”

Buffy reached across and took Willow’s arm, squeezing it gently. “Whatever you need, Will. Whatever helps, is okay by me.”

“Have you forgotten who designed these – bots?” Anya pointed out.

“The irony isn’t lost on me,” Willow agreed, flatly. “In fact, I think the leg is from the actual Warren-bot. I found it at a garage sale the other week. It was what, um, inspired me, if that’s the word, to do this.” She paused. “Would anyone like to see – her?” More blank looks. “Tara!”

From upstairs came the sound of a door opening, there were light footfalls on the stairs, and Tara entered the dining room. She was dressed in the same clothes as that morning. The “bot” looked around the table and nodded to each person in turn. “Hello Dawn, my you’re getting tall. Buffy, thank you for being such a good friend to Willow. Xander, you’re Willow’s best friend from childhood, and a carpenter. And Anya, you’re Willow’s employer. I’m very pleased to meet you all.” Tara managed a forced lopsided smile and sat down at a spare seat at the table.

Xander turned pale, swallowed nervously. He looked at Willow and said; “Um, Willow, can I talk to you in private?”

“You can talk in front of her, it’s no problem,” Willow replied breezily, a broad smile fixed on her face too.

“Ah, okay. It’s just that, y’know, he who deserves to burn in Hell for eternity…”

“Warren,” Anya put in.

“Thanks, Ahn. Okay, Warren’s original design was for a – bot that would be accommodating in a one-on-one kind of way, it was, um, how do I put this?”

“A sex-bot,” Anya again.

“Oh, um, yeah, so he did,” Willow said, blushing. Suddenly inspired, she said in a high voice, “Tara’s strictly a walking and talking bot. I – I didn’t have any spare, um – parts. Down there,” she gestured vaguely below her waist, “she’s like a Barbie doll.” Tara beamed and nodded reassuringly.

Xander breathed an audible sigh of relief. Buffy too looked less strained. Dawn simply stared, wide-eyed. Anya shrugged.

Tara broke the momentary silence. “Willow, would you mind if I went upstairs for a while? I need to recharge my batteries.” Willow nodded, and Tara looked around at the others in farewell. “She’s always kind to me. It was so nice to meet you all.”

There was silence around the table after Tara had left. Willow began to feel very awkward. From the upstairs bedroom there came a faint muffled squeak.

“I tell you what,” Willow said, rising to her feet, “I might just go up there for a minute and get Tara…connected. She might - need a hand.” Trying to hide her blushes, the redhead jogged briskly up the stairs to her room.

After Willow had gone, there was dead silence for several minutes. Xander eventually broke it. "Has anyone else just passed a sign that reads: 'Wigginsville City Limits', heading downtown?" A faint humming sound could be heard from upstairs.

"I'm already at City Hall," Buffy replied.

“I’m surprised at you all,” Anya objected. “I work with Willow, it’s obvious that she needs grief counseling, she’s always morose and unproductive at work. I say, if she needs to talk to a robot of her dead girlfriend, well fine, whatever it takes.”

Dawn broke her silence, rose. “I have homework. I’ll see you guys later.” She kissed Xander and Anya goodnight, hugged Buffy briefly, and left the room.

When Willow opened her bedroom door, she was greeted by the possibly unique sight of a vampire lying on her bed, stuffing a pillow into her mouth to stop herself from laughing. Tara turned and saw Willow, wheezed, and buried her head under the covers. After a minute, she seemed to recover; the blonde sighed deeply, sat up and grinned at her lover.

“This was worth it just to see their faces!” she exclaimed. “Did you see them? It was like: ‘oh, heaven forbid that the lesbian should get to experience any pleasure!’ And what do they think lips, tongues and fingers are for anyway?” She rolled back onto the bed, wiggling her long fingers and displaying her curves suggestively.

“I better not stay up here too long; they’ll be expecting me back in a minute.”

“Oh, Willow,” Tara pouted, “Don’t you want to play with your Barbie doll? Don’t you want to dress me up? Or undress me?” This was accompanied by another lascivious wiggle of those enticing hips. Unable to resist, Willow climbed onto the bed.

“Mmm, I guess this shirt must pull off over your head,” Willow began, suiting action to the words, “and, oh my, Barbie has a bra.”

“You think I could stand walking around with those monstrous things bouncing around all day?”

“Hmm, and what about these buttons here? May I…?”

“Oh, please do…”

“Now, I’ll just ease these down and let’s see if we can get those troublesome panties off and…Great Goddess, what’s this?”

“Oh, no! What?”

“Hey, you’re no ordinary Barbie doll, why, you, you’re-”

“Say it, Willow!”

“You’re – Anatomically Correct Barbie!!”

“I am! And I’m all yours! Yours!”

“You mean it?”

“Yours and yours alone, my dearest Willow.”

“And Ken?”

“Oh, he’s my best friend, that’s all. Don’t tell me you were ever jealous of him? I could never think of him that way. Besides,” Tara continued with a gleeful wink, “I happen to know that when GI Joel comes home on leave, Ken always has a warm welcome for him.”

“Oh, Barbie!”

“Oh, Willow! You mustn’t stay, you should go downstairs, they’ll be waiting.”

“Downstairs?” Willow leered. “Is my Tarabot-Barbie trying to give me a hint?” the redhead slid down over her lover’s body, smothering it with lusty kisses.

“Mmmm, Willow,” the “bot” moaned, losing herself in the moment. “I’m, oh , I’m your…I’m your B- I’m…Ta-, I’m yours…ohhh…”

Bagherra,

Please forgive me for such tardy, tardy feedback. I'm still catching up. I have been reading since we first found out that Tara was a vamp. WOW... this is so wonderfully written. You really have alot of talent. I have been enjoying, very much.

I'm intrigued by what is going on with Willow and have so many questions, but I know that they will eventually be answered. So.. I'll just wait patiently. I really love your vamp Tara and how the gentle nature and true loving self of Tara, has overpowered the demon part of the vamp Tara. :love I think it would be this way. And I'm glad Willow is being the way she is. They need each other, as always.

I have to admit, that I too am kinda worried about Buffy finding out. I don't see how she couldn't and won't sense that Tara is a vamp. And what will she do when she DOES find out? There's awhile to go until then though, right??

Hmmm... lovely fic, lovely fic. Now... all I have to do is catch up on the beginning. :shy

Looking forward to more,

Jen

OH... :rollin that ending was priceless. Hee.. Barbie "bot." :lol I'm glad the scoobies all took it well. Or, seemed to, for Willow's sake.

Jen - Thank you for your kind words. Spot on abut T & W needing one another. Complicated times are ahead.

Steph - thank you. 1.3.4 will be out tomorrow.

Thanatopsis and Xita - Thanks. It seems to have escaped some people's notice (eg. the entire writing and producing staff of RW "Buffy") that the show is supposed to be a horror-comedy. And what could be more comedic than a good old bedroom farce? It's a form of comedy as old as the written word. And it was fun to do for a change of pace, and also fits nicely into my short-update format. I could just see Willow working herself into a state, telling more and more desperate lies to embellish the story of Tara being a bot, the clincher of course being the "Barbie" line. And the Scoobies - like stunned fish for the moment, but they'll get there.

Willow looks hopeful, then delighted as the words sink in. Tara meets her halfway and they kiss passionately.

You are very welcome. :) They always need each other. I'm glad you at least brought Tara back. It's better to have a vamp Tara, then no Tara at all. And Willow has accepted her and they are together. That's the important thing. :love

Complicated times, huh?? I hope our girls will be okay in the end though?? They will, right?? :(

Jen: Re: "I hope our girls will be okay in the end though?? They will, right??"

It's a promise. As for vampTara, I had several reasons for bringing her back as a vamp. Firstly, it's an ironic reference to the idiotic "it would be cheapening death" mantra that has been emanating from RW "Buffy"-dom about the prospect of Tara coming back. For the purposes of this story, I decided to follow this ridiculous party line by not bringing her back alive and whole. As a happy consequence, this drives the entire story arc. Secondly, since Tara was so often pushed into the background in the past, and in response to JW's comments about the rise of the "super-Xander" in Season 7, I thought: how about exploring Tara's superhero nature? She has always shown that she is second to none in courage, so why not give her some powers and abilities to complement her heroic nature?

Willow looks hopeful, then delighted as the words sink in. Tara meets her halfway and they kiss passionately.

Okay.. I feel better knowing that they will be okay, in the end. :) Thank you.

And those are some very good thoughts, you have there. I trust you more than I will EVER trust that evil little man again. I like the superhero thing, too. I can definitely see it happening.

I still want to hold on to that little bitty bit of hope for next season, but it's soo hard. I don't know what to think anymore. Thanks for writing this.

Looking forward to more. :)

Night, B.

"Willow's Really Bad Idea" Part 4

Postby Bagheera » Tue Jul 23, 2002 4:17 am

Jen - Nice thoughts from you. Here's an update.

Jessica - Liked the Tarabot-Barbie? I had fun, too. No-one seemed to notice the pun about Ken's partner...

"Willow's Really Bad Idea" Part 4

Rating PG-13 - Back to the angst.

A while later, Willow softly closed the bedroom door behind her and slowly, dreamily, descended the stairs back to the dining room. Xander, Anya and Buffy had made coffee and were seated in front of the television. There was a spare mug of Willow’s favourite tea on the table. The redhead took this as a good sign. She picked up the mug, but as the TV program looked uninteresting, she went into the kitchen to tidy up. After a minute or so, Xander popped in to help.

“You understand I’ve forsaken my claim to the remote to come in here and lend you a hand,” he joked. Willow gave him a tiny smile in return. “Everything connected up okay?”

“Hm? Oh, with Tara…bot?” Willow replied. “Yeah, she’s just on the bed, um, recharging the - the batteries.”

“You know Will, I gotta admit it freaked us out a bit, seeing Tara like that, but, we talked it over and, we want what’s best for you. If you think you need this, we’re all fine with it, for as long as you want. And anyway,” Xander continued, “After Tara was - you know, I kept thinking that I never spent enough time with her to get to know her. Most of the time she was, you know, with you, and I thought: ‘Ok, cool, Willow likes Tara, Tara must be okay’, and I pretty much left it at that. I thought that I’d get to know her eventually ‘cause it was so obviously a long term thing and there’d be plenty of time. Only, there wasn’t, was there?”

“No,” Willow sniffed.

“I hadn’t realised until now what a big mistake I made. I miss her, but unless I could see her the way that you see her, I don’t really know who I’m missing or why. What I’m trying to say and I’m using way too many words to say it is, you’re the computer whiz, and you knew her best of all, so if anyone can program her to be like Tara, it’s you. And when you do, I’d be - glad to get to know Tara the way I should’ve in the first place. I think I owe it to - to Tara. And I owe it to you. Just sayin’, y’know Will?”

The hacker kissed Xander gently on the cheek. “Thank you,” she whispered. They finished their chores in silence and then Willow made her excuses to the others and returned to her bedroom.

Tara was lying on her back in the dark, eyes half-open. She turned as the redhead entered. “All’s well?” she asked.

“I think they’re becoming more comfortable with the idea,” Will replied.

Tara propped herself onto one elbow and looked searchingly into Willow’s eyes. “Willow,” she said, “can I ask you something… about England?”

“Um…okay. What do you want to know?”

“Did Giles or anyone else do some sort of spell on you? Not just the white magic infusion, but afterwards?”

“Not Giles,” Willow corrected. “There was this whole coven of them, they - they did this big enchantment to bring me down, because I was still kind of - spaced when I got there.”

“Did it change you?”

“Yes, no, - oh I don’t know, I can’t really describe it. In some ways I’m the same, my memories, knowledge stuff, but in other ways I feel - disconnected.”

“Give me an example,” Tara said, sitting up cross-legged on the mattress.

“Well,” Willow recalled, “I remember everything that happened after you - died. The Dark Magic, going after Warren, the - killings, but it’s like it wasn’t me it happened to. I feel detached from the memory of it, almost like it was somebody else doing those things. And I sort of know that the old Willow, if she’d done those things and remembered them, she’d be tearing herself to pieces about it. It -just doesn’t seem to get to me quite that way. I don’t think I’ve ever really cried about it before last night - with you. And that was only because you were there and I was more scared about what you would think of me than my own feelings about it.”

“What about your magic?” Tara asked.

“There’s nothing,” Willow said simply. “I’m not even curious to try it. I’m so non-magical, I can work in the Magic Box unsupervised. The only thing I open there is the cash register.”

The vampire was silent for a few minutes, thinking. Eventually, she took Willow’s hands and said, “I think they changed you with that spell. Willow, honey, I think you’re right when you say you feel disconnected, when you feel as if not all of you is there.”

“Sometimes,” Willow offered, suddenly feeling a little teary, “I think there’s this pain deep inside me, which I can’t even feel and which can’t get out. I worry what it’s doing to me; if it’s eating me up. Tara?” Her green eyes looked entreatingly into Tara’s blue.

“I’m scared too,” Tara whispered. They embraced then, and there were tears. When the embrace finally broke, the vampire continued, “Willow? Would you mind if I looked at your aura?”

“I - thought you could see it already.”

“I can, but I want to look at it more closely. Maybe - maybe I can find a discontinuity; maybe I can help normalise the flow…”

“You can do that?” Willow asked.

“I - don’t know. It’s complicated stuff. I’ll need a couple of books and some materials from the shop. And Willow?”

“Yes, darling?”

“If I do this, if I can find it, if I can reconnect…there might be pain. I swore I wouldn’t hurt you. I want to keep that promise.” Tara looked at Willow, troubled.

“If it’s pain, it’s pain I inflicted on myself,” Willow said firmly. “Give me a list of what you need in the morning. Now, kiss me.”
