Well jomarch, now that you've somehow managed to give me your insomnia you may get your wish. But I usually like to have the entire story written and beta'd before I start posting (that's Rane's influence, the sweety *waves at Rane*) so it will likely be a while.

But let's concentrate on your fic and when the next update is coming. Don't make me use the voice. Or is the voice copyright?

Postby jomarch » Fri Apr 05, 2002 2:42 pm

Ok first replies to the feedback

*mollyig* - He's going to be worst, I guess.

*delany* - Oh god, the pressure, the pressure. Now I know why I can't sleep :) . Thanks for you kind words.

*Owl* - You sound really British in my head there! read the dedication...

*Pixie* - So what's your yahoo IM nick? Maybe we all want to talk to you :)

*CK* - See, I am so afraid to not finish this but I really want to so I posted it. Wish me luck. And the voice is not copyrighted so use away.

*BM* - Hi Sweetie. sorry I did not post in time for you morning cofffee. Was sleeping for 3 hours straight (which for me is good). Hope you like this chapter.

Spoiler Warning - It has some spoilers up to Normal Again and you may want to read my previous story as it is set in the same universe. If you don't want to, it's ok too. Just realize that Willow is in a wheelchair and this would be set around two and a half years from start of current US season.

Feedback - Good God! Yes, please.

Disclaimer - All characters, names etc belong to ME. I am just borrowing them for this short while in order to make them do what I want for a change instead of waiting to see what happens every Tuesday.

Rating - NC -17 (well sort of. I am really bad at rating so its better to be safe than sorry) .

Dedication : I was unsure of writing this and when I sent it off to Owl, her comments were so sweet and great that I am more confident in posting it and getting on with the story so you guys owe her for making me do this.... And yes, this is so influenced by Ruth. I thnik I must have read Final Exam a few times to get in the right frame of mind. Flings panties at Ruth (with Santa Pixie's help)

Title : Left Of Center

Notes: With apologies to Elizabeth Barrett Browning, who gave us such a beautiful poem that I had to make it Willow's & Tara's (with my own inadequate words).

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height

My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight

For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.

I love thee to the level of everyday's

Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.

I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;

I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.

I love thee with the passion put to use

In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.

I love thee with a love I seemed to lose

With my lost saints,-- I love thee with the breath,

Smiles, tears, of all my life!-- and, if God choose,

I shall but love thee better after death.

Chapter 2

"Is everything alright, baby?" Willow asked as she gently placed small tender kisses starting from Tara's forehead and ending just at the side of her mouth. "You seem kinda quiety since we came back". She could feel Tara's smile begin to form, and her tongue flicked out, licking the side of Tara's sweet lips. She knew that the blonde had started to feel slightly uneasy midway through their patrol. Their

psychic link had amplified her apprehension.

Tara didn't want to alarm Willow, and since she couldn't really identify any danger... It was just a feeling in the back of her mind. She shook her head slowly and sent back thoughts of love and safety.

Willow knew what she had to do. Before, she would try to joke and pout to make the blonde smile. She had viewed love so differently then - so scientifically. She'd sometimes approached it like mathematics: all planes and symmetry and theorem proofs. Willow loves Tara equals good

things - QED. But now, everything was different. She wanted so much to let the blonde know - to give voice to her love. She placed her forehead against Tara's and began to recite softly,

"How much do I love thee? Let me show you the ways." She again kissed Tara - this time with more fervor. She wanted to show her lover, to convey so much, she only hope she could.

"You make me feel invincible. My soul soars and ascends to such a place of beauty." With that, she slowly nuzzled behind Tara's ear, her tongue flicking in and out, tasting her skin, her essence. She was glad when this earned a small moan from the blonde.

"You are my life, my heart, my reason. To love you makes me feel exalted," Willow then continued, whispering in Tara's ear. The blonde had closed her eyes at that, and had such a look of bliss on her face, it made Willow want to cry. "My love for you is essential to me. It is the air I breathe. It is the light that guides my way". Her fingers traced down Tara's cheekbone, reveling in the radiated warmth of her skin.

"My love for you transcends all other feelings. Even at my best or worst - my love will never waver." She slowly began to unbutton Tara's top, her nimble fingers lingering on every button. As she undid them one by one, she would stop and touch the bare skin underneath with such reverence, such tiny whispers of touch... Her fingertips traced a path around Tara's firm breasts and then trailed downwards. Slow, precise, movements - so that she could savor them - give them the proper veneration. She could do this for hours, she wanted to but she could also feel Tara's need, her unvoiced request.

"You are the span of my life, and the breadth of my heart. I want to be whole for you. Walk for you." She began to undo the drawstrings of Tara's pajama bottoms, her eyes never wavering from the blonde's face. She slowly, pulled them downward over her hips. The expanse of bare skin glowing with heat and passion. She placed small kisses on her belly - felt Tara's quickening breathing through the physical contact. Her fingers, trailing a path known by heart. Touching and caressing -moving with purpose. Tara was lost in the words and the feelings Willow was invoking in her mind, body and soul.

"My love is infinite. It will know no death nor pain. It will know only you." With that, she felt Tara arch her back as she entered her.

"Oh, Goddess... Willow, I love you!" Tara cried out, riding out the wave of pleasure that swept through her body, tears of joy coursing down her face. Willow had given her such a gift. It was the first time that she had initiated any lovemaking in the bedroom for such a long while. Willow would normally always ask or hint, and then wait for Tara to make the first move.

"Oh, baby... Don't cry. I didn't want to make you cry..." Willow's voice was uncertain. She hadn't expected the tears. She was frightened that she may have gone too far... pushed too hard.

"No... No. You... What you just said and did - It's value is beyond measure." The blonde witch leaned forward to kiss Willow. She felt it inadequate, but that was only the start, she promised herself. She would have her whole life to commensurately give back to Willow all that she had received: love, life, and magic.

Willow snuggled closer, happy at the words. The activities of the day and the patrol finally took their toll on her. With her eyes slowly drooping shut, and a smile on her face, she whispered one final thing - "Sleepy now. ...Gnight, baby."

"Goodnight," Tara echoed as she wrapped her arms around Willow, protecting her in sleep as she would when awake - with her body and soul.

Donny had followed them home, he knew what they were doing, of course. It sickened him. Their love - so pure. So sure. He had known about it the first time he had laid eyes on them as they entered the Magic Box so long ago. His sister and her witch. She thought him stupid... thought he was blind. She was the big college girl, but he knew the score... could see the love she had for the redhead, reflected so brightly from her eyes. He had told his father, only to have him laugh at that. "Are you

stupid, boy? Your sister's shy, and only interested in magic. Not people. That redhead is a witch. Pure and simple".

Only driving back that night was his father convinced, "She humiliated us! How dare she! You hear me, boy... She and that friend... Their punishment will come! Their day of reckoning." He had listen to the rant all the way back home. It hadn't really stopped, he could still hear the words in his mind. His father's stern voice, the hatred and venom of the words. But now, they were like a lullaby to him - they comforted him. Now, that he had the power to do something. He would make his father proud and then he would kill him and Cousin Beth…..but first, Tara.

He had done well -had not blundered in as he would have before. She never knew that he had always been around, on the periphery - watching and waiting. He had bided his time and learned their habits and weaknesses. He was not stupid. With death came great clarity. So much time spent going over his plan. Simple yet elegant. Now there was a word he had never found use for. Baling hay and growing crops did not strengthen one's vocabulary. But now, the words did flow, as did the magic. He was going to use them both to his advantage. He'd describe in minute detail to Tara exactly what he would do to the redheaded witch. The screams that would sound like music to his ears. He knew that his sister deserved to be punished. She was the one who had taken his mother away from him. She was the one who had excelled at magic and angered his father. She was the one who... He felt blood flowing from his palms. In his anger, he had broken skin. He licked the blood off. Time to feed. And soon, their day of reckoning.

Jomarch,

Have a great time in your travels but remember us here waiting patiently for an update. I just finished your other story and was glad to see that you decided to continue with a sequel. You and all the other writers have a gift and I am glad you share it with us all. May God bless and keep you safe on your journey. I'll be sitting here at my computer waiting ever so patiently.

Nice to see you updated this, jomarch. I have to say, I like the contrast in your chapters between the light and the dark, giving us Willow and Tara and then showing us Donny. That's a great little device you've used.

And woo! I see that love scenes are the order of the day. Nicely written and really tender. Somehow I like the idea of Willow being all prosaic when she's touching Tara. And you described Tara's reactions so prettily. Yum. :)

Wow, Jomarch, that was just great. I love the working in of the poem. It has always been one of my favorites. It reminded me of a poem by Charles Towne, called Nightfall. It seems so appropriate for what you just said.

I need so much the quiet of your love.

After the day's loud strife;

I need your calm all other things above

After the stress of life.

I crave the haven that in your dear heart lies,

After the toil is done,

I need the star shin of your heavenly eyes.

After the day's great sun..

Sorry, went off on a tangent. Thanks for the wonderful update.

Jomarch, that was beautiful!!! The whole scene between W/T was - lovely. *sigh...swoon* I love the words you put into Willow's mouth (mmm...Willowmouth) - very moving. And I agree with previous comments - Donny has a plan? and the contrast between W&T/light and Donny/dark is very effective. This chapter deserves a very special pair of panties - lacy and delicate, almost a work of art. * zing*

I mean.. hands... they type. so it's under your hands. It makes sense!) He is truly disturbing and highly creepy. Kudos!

Title : Left Of Center

Chapter 3a

Waking up with her arms still around Willow was an amazing experience. She could feel Willow's leg curled round hers. It had moved during the night. For that alone, she would offer thanks to the Goddess all the days of her life. With the stem cell therapy and the physiotherapy sessions, Willow was slowly beginning to regain feeling in her legs. It

was slow going, but progress was being made. She remembered staying with Willow in the hospital after the operation. Willow's parents had insisted to the doctor that she be given family visiting rights. Just for that, she didn't mind answering to the name Tracy. She knew that

Willow was probably never going to walk normally again and would always need crutches or a cane, but they could eventually get rid of the chair. So many things to be thankful for and to look forward to together,' she thought to herself.

If truth be told, she was indeed relieved that the past few days (weeks even) had been relatively quiet. The months following their battle with the Han'thu Ladsha were a blur. They were going to graduate from college soon, and with the doctor's appointments and dinners at Willow's parents',

they were left with little time for themselves. But Tara was grateful for any time she could spend with Willow, and she did not mind sharing her with the world.

She had been surprised last week when Anya asked her if she felt cheated that Willow could not walk. That she had to be more of the caretaker partner in their relationship - had to carry Willow both physically and sometimes emotionally.

Anya had remarked that she couldn't understand how Tara could cope sometimes. She could empathize slightly. When Xander got cursed by the Chumash tribe so long ago, she had looked after him but that was only for that short time. She did love Xander with all her heart. But it frightened her, having so much love for a person and staying with them

through darkness and pain. She hoped Tara could explain it - give her hope - teach her about strength and love.

Tara knew that Anya hadn't meant anything by it. The ex-demon was still learning what it was to be human. So before answering her, Tara thought long and hard. She had never really deliberated about it before - about how she was being the caretaking partner. In fact, she felt that Willow was the one who had taken care of her during the past two years.

It was Willow who had held her together in her strong arms when she was mired by pain and guilt. It was Willow who had held her together. All she had done was physically support the redhead. So she had explained to Anya that helping Willow was like breathing - an autonomic response.

Something so intrinsic and essential in her life. Willow was whole to her and always would be, despite the chair. It was never an inconvenience. Yes, she would be glad when Willow did not need it as much, but that never played a part in her feelings for the redhead. She would love her, would always be there for her regardless of anything. That was a promise she had made to herself, and one she would keep. Always.

"You know, if I keep waking up and seeing you deep in thought, I'm just going to assume that you're thinking of ways to ravage me," the redhead's sweet voice cut into her memory.

"Well, you know what they say about assuming, don't you?" Tara answered back "it means that ass on you is mine!"

Willow wiggled her eyebrows at that and leaned closer to the blonde for their first morning kiss. It was a tradition of sorts now. A kiss in bed in the morning, a kiss in the shower, a kiss going down the stairs as Tara carried her. 'Face it Rosenberg', she thought to herself... She wished they were college classes - 'Kissing Tara 101' and the advanced

course of, 'Making Tara Moan - Graduate studies'. If only it were true, then she would never want to graduate, ever. She would just keep taking the courses and acing them.

"So what's for breakfast?" Willow asked

"I think it's Dawn's turn. She said that if we continue with the magic lessons, she'll make breakfast for the rest of the month," Tara replied.

It was a major surprise to Tara when Dawn had first broached the subject of learning magic. She had thought that the teenager would want to learn to fight like her sister. And although that was true, and Dawn had also begun training with Giles, she had wanted to be more well-rounded

in the monster fighting department. Thus the magic lessons.

Willow was just as surprised as Tara when Dawn had brought up the subject, but for different reasons. She was surprised as she thought that Dawn may have still held a grudge against her for the accident and her fractured arm. So she told the teen that she would not be upset if she only wanted Tara to teach her. She would just be supporty' girl. But Dawn was adamant. She loved both of them dearly and they were both just as important. Besides, they were always

stronger together, and that was what she wanted to be taught. Willow had hugged her so tight at that that Dawn had jokingly complained about sore ribs for a month.

"So I guess we ought to, uhh... shower together? You know, to save time? ...And, go downstairs before anything untoward happens in the kitchen," Willow added in a rush, hoping Tara would agree. Knowing that she would, actually. So she just smiled at the blonde.

"Honey, I think Dawn is a better cook that Buf... Ohh... Oh, yes. We should shower together. It's faster, and... Yes." with that, Tara lifted Willow up and ran to the bathroom as fast as she could.

"Dawn, that is not cooking!" both Willow and Tara could hear Buffy's exasperated voice as they came down the stairs forty minutes later.

"Is so!" Dawn replied.

"Cooking would entail, you know... actual cooking. Cutting up fruit for cereal and laying out the milk and sugar bowl is so not cooking breakfast! Why do I even bother?.. Tara! Willow! Oh my God, it's good to see you!" Buffy exclaimed as she watched Tara place Willow on one of

the chairs next to the kitchen counter.

"Hey, Buffy. Hey, Dawnie. What's for breakfast?" Willow replied cheerily. To be honest, she really didn't care all that much. The day had started perfectly and the shower with Tara was heaven, so she probably would have eaten even if Buffy had cooked.

Dawn was glad that Willow asked and replied, "Well, I poured out all three different kinds of cereal and I cut up some strawberries. Ohh - and the melons Tara likes!"

At that, Tara had choked on the orange juice she was drinking. Willow and Buffy both knew what the blonde had been thinking at that moment and could hardly hide their smiles.

"Umm, baby? You ok? Juice went down the wrong pipe, huh?" Willow tried to lessen the blonde's embarrassment as she could feel and see Tara blushing.

Dawn, still oblivious, carried on, "And I invited Giles and Anya and Xander as well. It's going to be a family breakfast."

With that, the front doorbell rang, and Dawn hurried to answer it. She was glad for days like these - days where everyone came together just for company and not for anything else. And later, she would convince Tara and Willow to give her another magic lesson. She needed that. She knew she

wasn't the key anymore, but sometimes she could feel the power in her - the power that made her human. It flowed through her veins along with Summers blood. She never told anyone, but she could still recall the feeling... The power in her blood as it dripped down her feet and opened

the portal. It was there. It would always be there. The magic lessons helped her understand it, live with it. Tara showed her how to center herself and reach out with mind and spirit, and Willow... Well, Willow taught her how to respect it, and how to float a pencil! That was cool.

"Hey, guys! I hope you're hungry," she called out cheerily as she opened the door to Giles, Anya and Xander.

Woo and hoo, let's hear it for melons!!!! I personally love melons.*wink, wink*. Jomarch that was great. Thank you so much for posting it before you leave on your vacation. I love the story line. I would say something more philosophical but I am thinking of melons... :grin

Jomarch, I've just caught up on your sequel and I'm thoroughly enjoying it!!! Donny as the big bad, Willow nearly out of the wheelchair and Willow & Tara in bed making love ... it just doesn't get better than that.

Liked the insight to Dawn feeling the power of being the key and opening the portal. I feel it's something that ME have yet to explore.

Look forward to next update.

Heheheh - melons!!! :lol :lol :lol Thanks for the lack of angst, Jomarch. And thanks for the nod - that was sweet. I liked Tara's reverie, it did address many of my musings about the "caretaker" bit. And I loved that Anya brought it up! And the Scooby family having breakfast *sigh*
