Okay, that was totally weird. Sorry about that. I'll try posting it again.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Part 6

The telephone beside his bed began to ring loudly and he shot upwards. Xander let out a yell as he hit his head on the cupboard above his head and fumbled about, trying to pick up the phone.

Xander: Hello?

Buffy: Xander, it’s Buffy.

Xander: Oh, morning Buff.

He glanced at the clock beside his bed.

7:30…. She always was an early riser

Xander: What’s the what?

He put a hand to his mouth, covering a yawn.

Buffy: I just called Tara’s house. Her dad said she hasn’t been home all night.

Xander: What?

Buffy: She’s missing.

Xander: I um, I’ll get dressed and be right over.

He hung up the phone and climbed out of bed. Glancing at the cupboard he’d hit his head on, he rubbed his forehead.

Xander: I really need to move that.

Summers’ house

Buffy paced back and forth in the hallway, all sorts of thoughts going through her mind. What if Tara was in trouble? What if she was hurt? Tara had been Buffy’s best friend since the Maclay’s had moved to Sunnydale four years ago and the thought of something happening to the blonde made Buffy feel ill. The front door burst open and a half dressed Xander ran in, panting.

Buffy: Are you okay?

Xander: Yeah…. I uh…. Just need to…. Die, for a second.

He closed the door and leaned against it.

Buffy: When was the last time you spoke to Tara?

Xander: After Snyder told us to get lost.

Buffy: Yeah, me too.

Buffy began pacing again.

Buffy: I’m really worried, Xander. She usually calls me every night so we can talk.

Xander: She didn’t last night?

The blonde shook her head.

Xander: What did her dad say?

Buffy: Just that she left earlier and hadn’t come home. He didn’t seem care….

Xander: Why would he? We both know he treats Tara like dirt.

Buffy: He needs me to kick his ass.

Xander: Now Buffy, I know you’re stronger than…. Well, most people, but you really think beating on him will help?

She didn’t get chance to answer. The phone in the kitchen started to ring, cutting her off. She turned and ran out of the hallway, Xander following her. Buffy grabbed the phone and held it to her ear.

Buffy: Hello?

Tara: B-Buffy….

Buffy: Oh my god. Tara, are you okay? You didn’t call last night and your dad said-

Tara: I’m-I’m okay…. Something happened….

Buffy: What?

She didn’t get an answer.

Buffy: Tara, where are you?

Tara: I…. I j-just wanted…. I’m okay. Please, don’t come l-looking for m-me…. they might f-follow you…. A-and find me….

The line went dead. Buffy put the phone down and turned to Xander.

Buffy: You’re good with computers and stuff. Do you think you can trace a call?

Xander: Easy as…. Very difficult pie, but I can do it.

>D arwin

Tara climbed back into the bed and pulled the covers over herself once more. Willow had told her she could call someone if she needed the previous night, so she was pretty sure the redhead wouldn’t mind. Lying back down, her attention became focused on the face of the sleeping girl beside her. Light crept in through the curtains and began to dance about across her skin. Tara smiled and continued to watch, mesmerized. Her hair flickered darker and lighter as the sunlight passed over it, changing the colour ever so slightly. Tara couldn’t help but notice the creamy colour of Willow’s skin and she smiled. Reaching out, she trailed her fingertips up Willow’s arm lightly afraid the girl would wake. She lifted her hand to Willow’s head and gently brushed the hair away from the redhead’s face.

She looks to peaceful…. So beautiful.

Tara drew her hand back and shifted closer to Willow, the other girl’s arms instinctively wrapping themselves around her. She nestled her head underneath Willow’s chin and sighed. She had never felt so safe in her entire life.

I wish the could last forever….

Tara’s heart broke as she told herself that wasn’t going to happen. Willow would wake up and they would go back to being casual acquaintances. After all, they had only met twice before. It was long enough for Tara to fall head over heels in love though. She closed her eyes and tried to go back to sleep, knowing that probably wasn’t going to happen. She couldn’t stop thinking about Willow. The beautiful redhead that was lying beside her, so close, but so far just the same.

Buffy’s house: two hours later

Buffy strode up the stairs and pushed open the door to her room. Xander was sat at her desk in front of her computer, frowning, obviously deep in concentration. The blonde walked forward and looked over the computer wiz’s shoulder.

Buffy: How we doing?

Xander sighed and shook his head.

Xander: I’ve managed to hack into the police’s database. They’ve got a list of all telephone numbers and addresses in the state…. But they’ve got security codes preventing anyone from getting admittance to the statistics.

Buffy: Um…. In English?

Xander: They’ve got passwords blocking each file.

Buffy: Oh.

She glanced at the computer screen.

Buffy: Can you get past them?

Xander: Given time.

Buffy: How long?

Xander: A couple of hours…. Maybe longer.

Buffy: I thought you were a wiz.

Xander: I am a wiz! I just…. Hacking into police files isn’t exactly what I do for fun on Saturday nights.

Buffy: But you can do this? This is important, Xander. Tara could be in serious trouble.

Xander: I know that and of course I can do this. It’s just going to take some time.

Buffy: Is there anything I can do?

Xander: You can get me some coffee.

Buffy rolled her eyes.

Buffy: Jeez, what happened to your last slave?

Xander: I killed her because she wouldn’t get me my coffee.

Darwin

The alarm clock beside her bed flashed, 10:00am appearing on the screen. Willow sighed and rested her head back on her pillow. She’d woken up about half an hour ago and it was clear she was never going to be able to get back to sleep. It took her long enough the previous night. Being so close to Tara was driving her crazy. She just wanted to reach out and touch the other girl, hug her, kiss her, hold her close. Willow closed her eyes tightly and tried to think about something else. That was a mistake, because as soon as her eyes were closed, visions of Tara filled her mind. Piercing blue eyes, long blonde hair, and a stutter that was so cute Willow almost died every time she heard it.

Stop it, Willow. You’re not helping yourself, you know. Just making things worse.

The redhead opened her eyes and looked down at the sleeping blonde still lying in her arms. She sighed.

How can this possibly get any worse?

Sunnydale

Xander jumped up out of his seat and ran to the doorway.

Xander: Buffy! I got it!

The blonde came rushing up the stairs and into her room.

Buffy: You have?

He nodded and walked back to the computer. Buffy grabbed a pen and paper and followed him. She wrote down the address and turned to him.

Buffy: Looks like we’re going to find out what’s going on.

Xander: Buffy…. Maybe Tara doesn’t want us to find out. Maybe she didn’t tell us what’s going on for a reason.

Buffy: But what if she’s in trouble and the reason she didn’t tell us is because she doesn’t want to drag us into it?

Xander sighed. He wasn’t going to be able to talk any sense into her.

Xander: Lets go.

Something that you do

Hypnotizes me

Sets my soul at ease

Every time you’re near me

I’m in heaven baby

I don’t know how you do it

Never felt like this before

I don’t wanna lose it

Give me all your love

(More and more and more)

Something that you do

Mesmerizes me

Sets my body free

Every time you touch me

I’m in heaven baby

I don’t know how you do it

Never felt so sweet before

I don’t wanna lose it

Give me all your love

(More and more and more)

Chorus:

I just wanna be around you

Tell me are you feeling the same

I just wanna be around you

Every minute of the day

Oh I’m never gonna let you go

Every time you smile

It captivates my mind

And it lifts me to the sky

Anytime you touch me

I’m in heaven baby

I don’t know how you do it

Never felt so sweet before

I don’t wanna lose it

Give me all your love

Chorus:

I just wanna be around you

Tell me are you feeling the same

I just wanna be around you

Every minute of the day

Oh I’m never gonna let you go

I just want

To be the only one you live for

I just want

To give you all my love

(More and more and more)

Chorus:

I just wanna be around you

Tell me are you feeling the same

I just wanna be around you

Every minute of the day

Oh I’m never gonna let you go

Willow closed her eyes as the radio finished playing the song. She knew she should just shut it off, but if she moved she’d wake Tara, and the blonde looked so cute asleep in her arms. The redhead cursed herself for falling for Tara. For falling for someone who wasn’t going to love her back. It was just so hard. Being this close to Tara and not wanting to kiss her, hearing her name and not get butterflies in her stomach. It was so hard for Willow not to love her. The sound of someone banging on her door jerked her from her thoughts. Looking down at Tara, she sighed regretfully and carefully untangled herself from the blonde. She smoothed out her messy hair and walked down the stairs. Cursing whoever it at the door, she gripped the door handle and turned. A blonde girl was standing on her doorstep, a boy around the same age as herself standing behind her. She frowned and the blonde girl stepped forward.

Buffy: Are you Willow Rosenberg?

Willow: Yeah.

Suddenly, Willow found herself being forced back into her hallway and being thrown against the wall, the girl’s arm pressing against her throat. The redhead’s eyes widened and she wanted to shout out, but couldn’t speak. Buffy lifted her fist so it was inline with Willow face and glared at her.

Buffy: What have you done to Tara?

Uh-oh! What's Buffy going to do when she sees Tara, especially since she's all with the jumping to conclusions. But, those were some very lovely scenes of them in bed. :)

There's Buffy jumping to conclusions again, but nice to see her so protective of Tara, though her threatening Willow is odd, so yeah, AU's and all. Huh, that sentence kind of got away from me.

Chapter 7

Postby Ginner WTluv » Mon Jul 01, 2002 5:40 am

Okay, here it is. More to come afterwards:D Hope you enjoy!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Part 7

Willow: What the hell are you doing?!

Buffy: Where’s Tara?

The shy blonde had told Willow the previous night that if anyone came looking for her, however unlikely she thought that was; she was not to say a word.

Willow: Who?

Buffy: Don’t play dumb, where is she?

Willow: I don’t know what you’re talking about!

Buffy: You won’t tell me, I’ll beat it out of you.

Willow didn’t move. She wasn’t about to tell this girl where Tara was. She’d promised. What happened next, happened so fast it was somewhat of a blur. Willow clenched her jaw as Buffy’s fist collided with her face and she heard two people cry out her name at the same time. It didn’t take long for her to find out who the first person was. Faith suddenly came into view and threw herself on top of Buffy, wrestling her off Willow. As they tumbled to the side, Willow let herself slide down the wall to the floor. She held her hand to her nose for a second and then pulled it back. Seeing the blood covering her hand, she got to her feet and pulled Buffy off the floor. She delivered a punch to the blonde’s face and her head flew backwards. Only taking a second to recover, Buffy hit Willow with a hard uppercut to the chin, sending her down to the floor.

Tara: No!

Hearing Tara’s voice, everyone turned their heads to see her run down the stairs and kneel down next to the bleeding redhead. She cupped Willow’s face and began to whisper to her.

Tara: W-Willow? Are y-you okay?

Willow opened her eyes and looked at Tara.

Willow: Why…. Why is there two of you?

She was about to say something else, but stopped when she noticed Buffy reaching for Tara. Shaking her double vision from her head, Willow stood up and lunged at her, sending them both to the floor. She grabbed Buffy by her collar and looked at her. Her eyes hard and dangerous.

Willow: If you everlay a finger on Tara again, I’ll kill you.

Tara: W-Willow, no!

The redhead turned to look towards Tara, who rushed forward and grabbed Willow’s hand, pulling her away from Buffy.

Tara: Buffy’s m-my friend.

Willow: What?

Buffy: You heard her.

Buffy got to her feet and glared at Willow.

Buffy: And you’re about to get the ass kicking of your life.

The blonde tried to run at Willow, but found herself being pulled back and restrained.

Faith: Hold it right there, blondie. You wanna fight? I’ll be glad to wrestle you later. Right now, we all need to be filled in on some details.

Buffy eventually stopped trying to brake free of Faith’s grasp and looked at Tara. It was then she noticed the cuts and bruises on the blonde’s face.

Buffy: What happened?

Tara: N-nothing….

Buffy: Did she do that to you?

She nodded towards Tara and Willow’s eyes widened.

Willow: No! I’d never hurt her!

Tara: It wasn’t Willow.

Buffy: Then what happened?

Tara: I told you n-not to come looking f-for me.

Buffy: You’re phone call was a little vague, Tara. I was worried.

Xander: We both were.

Xander’s voice surfaced for the first time since he had arrived.

Tara: I-I didn’t w-w-want you two t-to get I-involved.

Buffy: We’re your best friends.

Tara: That’s why.

Willow: You…. You’re all friends?

Xander nodded.

Buffy: Who are you?

Tara: Th-this is W-willow, she…. She’s a friend.

Willow: The butch one holding you back is Faith.

Faith: Charmed, I’m sure.

Buffy shook herself free of Faith’s hold and walked towards Tara.

Buffy: What’s going on?

The shy blonde shrank backwards and shook her head.

Tara: I-I-I can’t….

Buffy: Tara….

She tried to reach out to her, but Willow stepped in front of Tara, blocking her way.

Willow: Look, I know you care about Tara…. But I think it’s obvious she’s been through a lot. She needs some time. I think you should all just back off and give her what she needs. Tara will tell you when she’s ready. Okay?

After a moment, Xander and Buffy nodded.

Xander: If you need anything, Tara….

Buffy: Call us.

They smiled and left through the front door.

Faith: I think I’ll spilt two. Willow, I’ll call you later. We need to talk.

Willow watched Faith go and closed the door. She turned back to Tara and frowned.

Willow: Are you okay?

Tara just kept shaking her head. Willow walked forward and took the blonde into her arms. Tara rested her head on Willow’s should and sighed, trying to hold back the tears.

Tara: I-I’m messing e-everything up….

Willow: No you’re not.

She pulled back and lifted the other girl’s chin with her finger. Willow looked into Tara’s eyes and reminded herself to breathe. She ran her thumb over a bruise on Tara’s cheek, never taking her eyes off the blonde.

Willow: This isn’t your fault, Tara.

Tara: B-but-

Willow: But nothing. Whatever happened…. Don’t blame yourself for it. That’s the biggest mistake you can make.

The blonde’s eyes closed for a second, tears running down her cheeks. She bit at her lower lip as she felt Willow brush away a tear and swallowed hard, opening her eyes. Falling into seas of green, Tara’s arm fell subconsciously to the bottom of Willow’s back and her lips parted slightly. For a moment, she became completely lost in the redhead’s eyes. Aware of the girl’s arms wrapped around her body, Tara once again felt a sense of safeness rise inside of her. She tried to say something, but couldn’t find any words. It was as if they didn’t exist in the world they had both lost themselves in. Without willing them to do so, Willow’s fingers gently brushed over Tara’s lips, making the other girl tremble and quiver, and close her eyes. It would be so easy for her to lean down and kiss the soft lips in front of her. Willow swallowed.

Willow: I…. I’m gonna take a shower.

She released her hold on Tara and backed up a few paces, never taking her eyes off the blonde. Then she turned away and almost flew up the stairs. She closed the bathroom door behind her as she entered and leaned against it.

Willow: Preferably, a cold one.

A little later.

Tara almost jumped out of her skin as the phone in the kitchen started to ring. Willow came running into the room, wearing nothing but a towel, and skidded into the kitchen, almost falling over due to her wet feet. She picked up the receiver and held it to her ear.

Willow: Hello?

Faith: Hey Will.

Willow: Faith, hi.

She glanced towards Tara, nervously.

Faith: Listen, Willow, I’m a bit…. Confused here.

Willow: Yeah, I know.

Faith: What the hell was all that about earlier?

Willow: I’m sorry, Faith. I should explain. You remember the last football match?

Faith: Not one I’m gonna forget in a hurry.

Willow: Well, when we all got separated I tried to find you and Oz. For some reason I stopped and I saw Tara. There was a mob of girls running towards her so I threw myself at her and pushed her out of the way. After that, I didn’t expect to see her again, but I did the night after. We walked for ages and just talked. Then last night, she turned up on my doorstep battered and bruised. Someone beat her up, Faith.

Faith: Who?

Willow: Tara hasn’t told me and I’m not gonna ask her. She’s been through a lot. Anyway, I let her stay the night. She was so upset…. So scared that whoever it was that had done that to her, was going to find her. She didn’t talk for hours…. She was just silent…. And I couldn’t do anything to help her. I haven’t even known her that long but….

Faith: You care.

Willow: I do. So, when she told me not to tell anyone she was here, I promised her I wouldn’t. That’s why I didn’t tell you.

Faith: Okay. That’s cool.

There was a small pause.

Faith: Is she okay?

Willow sighed.

Willow: I’m not sure. She didn’t talk much after everyone left and I’ve only just got out of the shower, so I haven’t really had chance to speak to her.

Faith: Well, tell her I’m asking after her.

Willow: I will. Thanks Faith.

Faith: No problem. Catch you later.

Willow: Bye.

She hung up the telephone and walked out of the kitchen. Tara lifted her head and smiled at Willow as she entered the living room.

Willow: That was Faith.

Tara: O-oh?

Willow: She was just wondering about what happened earlier. She’s asking about you. Wants to know if you’re okay.

The redhead locked gazes with Tara.

Willow: Are you?

Tara sighed.

Tara: I w-will be.

There was a moment of silence before Willow broke their eye contact and started to walk out of the room.

Willow: I’m gonna get changed.

She disappeared and Tara leaned back into the couch.

I can’t go on like this. If I don’t do something soon, I’m gonna end up jumping her or something stupid. Maybe it would be better if I went home….

The blonde shuddered at the thought, but what else was there that she could do? If she stayed, there was a risk of her doing something that could wreck the friendship building between the two girls and Tara didn’t want that to happen. Although she hadn’t known Willow that long, there was a connection between them. A connection that Tara didn’t want to lose over some silly crush. Even if she thought that her feelings for Willow were more than that. The thought of losing Willow after only just finding her was more painful than the thought of Tara’s feelings not being returned.

The blonde sighed.

I guess I know what I’ve got to do then….

Dayum...does this AU take place in Hell's Kitchen or somethin with all the hardass, roughin everyone up shit? Lol, we had school rivalries and stuff, but nothin quite like this! Not that I'm complaining or anything, this story is great. Just puh-leeeeze don't have Tara up and leave? Make one of em grow some cajones (not in the literal) and make the first move! They're almost as shy as I am...and that is not a feat easily accomplished! Anywho, great story. I'm looking forward to much more!

Howdy kittens. First of all, i'm going to apologize for the lateness of this update. It's so annoying when you know what you want to write, but not how to write it! Anyway.... chap 9 looks as if it'll be the last one, but you know me and my fics. They never seem to want to end. Hope you won't get too bored;)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Part 8

Willow had just finished getting changed when Tara appeared in the doorway. Willow saw her reflection in the mirror on the side of her closet and turned around to face her.

Willow: Hey.

Tara: Hi.

After a moment of silence Willow smiled.

Willow: You can come in you know. Don’t have to stand out there.

Tara smiled nervously and walked across the room to sit on the end of the redhead’s bed. Willow frowned and closed the closet door, moving to sit beside Tara.

Willow: Are you okay?

The blonde sighed and nodded. Not convinced, Willow shifted her body so she was facing Tara. Tara lowered her head and mumbled quietly.

Willow: What?

She lifted her head and looked at Willow.

Tara: It w-was my d-dad.

As soon as Tara said it, Willow knew what she was talking about. She saw the tears fill Tara’s eyes and pulled the blonde into her arms. She didn’t know what to say, so Willow gently rocked Tara back and forth as the other girl cried. As they sat in silence, thoughts began to race through the minds of both girls. Willow was torn between feeling awful for Tara and feeling angry. Hate for the person who had done this to her friend had been bubbling inside her ever since Tara had appeared on her doorstep the night before, and now she knew who had done it, that anger raged inside of her wanting to get out. For Tara’s sake, she tried to keep it under control. There was a violent streak that ran deep inside the redhead and although it was not often exposed, people in the area knew not to mess with her or her friends. Willow didn’t like fighting; she only fought when it was necessary, but where she lived, it seemed to be necessary more than she’d like. After a while, she’d gotten herself a reputation of being a “tough-girl”. So had Faith. Everyone knew if you said anything wrong to one of them, you’d get a beating from the other. The same would happen if anyone said anything to Oz, except you’d get twice the beating. That’s the way it was around there. It was fight, or get beaten. Willow didn’t want Tara to see that side of her. The blonde didn’t deserve to become another pawn in someone’s game, which she knew would happen if Tara got involved with that side of her. Willow had enemies, just like everyone else. Enemies from both rival schools: which could get dangerous at times. That wasn’t who she was. Willow didn’t want to fight, but living where she did, she didn’t have much of a choice.

As her sobs began to subside, Tara noticed how close she and Willow were. The first time she saw her, Tara had instantly felt something for the redhead and each day it got stronger. Denying it didn’t work, because every time Willow would so much as look at her, the butterflies in her stomach would go crazy. Trying to forget about it was useless, because whenever Tara closed her eyes, the redhead in question would be before her. She couldn’t just make her feelings disappear. Tara lifted her head and found Willow looking at her.

Willow: I’m sorry.

Tara: You d-don’t have t-to be….

Willow: But I am. No one should have to go through that. Especially not you.

The blonde didn’t speak. Her mind drifted back to earlier that day when Buffy and Xander had arrived.

Tara: W-why didn’t you s-say anything?

Willow: What?

Tara: W-when Buffy thought…. When sh-she was going t-to hit you, you didn’t tell her I w-was here. Why?

Willow: I promised you I wouldn’t.

Willow smiled and brushed away the tears off Tara’s cheeks.

Willow: I didn’t know who she was…. She could have been anyone. Even if she’d tortured me…. I still wouldn’t have told her.

Tara: W…. w-why?

Willow: Because I….

Willow paused and dropped her hand back to her lap.

Willow: I don’t go back on my word. I wasn’t going to put you at risk of being hurt again….

The redhead dropped her gaze, shyly, before meeting Tara’s eyes again.

Willow: You’re too important to me.

Tara lowered her gaze for a second, unsure. Willow tilted her head to look at the blonde as she lifted her head once more.

Tara: I am?

Willow nodded, slowly.

Willow: You are.

The most amazing half grin appeared on the blonde’s face and Willow found it infectious. Little by little, she felt Tara’s hand begin to move towards her. Fingertips brushed the side of her leg, a feather light touch, but she felt it. She could hear her heart beating in her head. It was so loud, she wondered if Tara could hear it too. Gently, the blonde moved her hand up Willow’s leg, never braking eye contact. It all seemed to be happening in super slow motion and while she looked into the other girl’s eyes, Willow couldn’t even remember where she was. Tara’s fingertips softly brushed across the palm of Willow’s upturned hand, before taking it her own and entwining their fingers. After a second, the redhead glanced down at their hands and back up at Tara. Looking into her eyes, Willow could see something different there. She wasn’t sure what it was, but she could see it. As clear as day, and not being able to figure out what it was, was driving Willow crazy. Suddenly, she realised that Tara was smiling again and she wanted to ask why, but couldn’t speak. It was as if the blonde’s eyes held some sort of power over here and they held her in a gaze she wasn’t strong enough to break. Tara shifting her position brought her back to reality. The blonde had moved closer to her and was slowly continuing to do so. A burning heat began to rise inside her. Starting at her feet, moving up her legs and rolling over her stomach, causing the butterflies in her stomach to start buzzing around fanatically. The heat moved over her torso and up her arms, reaching the redhead’s neck. Suddenly, she began to notice how cold the metal of her necklace was against her skin. The searing heat hit her face and she instantly became flushed. And still she couldn’t break the gaze. Their faces were inches apart and both girls’ breathing had become ragged. Willow wanted to say something desperately but couldn’t find her voice. Just as she leaned forward, as her lips brushed ever so lightly over Tara’s, someone knocked at the Rosenberg’s front door. Willow jumped up off her bed and glanced back and forth between Tara and the door. Without a word, she left the room and fled down the stairs. Breathing heavily, she opened the door to find Faith standing on her porch.

Willow: Faith, what are you doing here?

The brunette raised an eyebrow, suggestively.

Faith: Hello to you, too.

Willow rubbed her forehead and apologized, letting Faith in and closing the door behind her.

Faith: What’s wrong?

Willow: Nothing.

Faith: Well, I usually get a hug and wild shrieks as my welcome, so….

Willow: It’s nothing, really….

Faith: Obviously it’s something.

They moved into the living room and sat down. Faith turned to her best friend and frowned.

Faith: Willow…. What it is?

Willow: Can we just drop it?

Faith: This is me, Will. Your best friend. The girl you come to with all your problems. Why can’t you talk to me about this?

Willow: It’s not worth talking about.

Faith: I think it is.

She looked at her friend and sighed. Faith wasn’t going to let this go.

Willow: Faith…. Have you ever been in love?

Faith: Um, newsflash Will. Cordelia? You remember, the girl I pine after day and night.

Willow: Yeah, but…. Are you in love with her? Or do you just….

Faith: Want to see her out of that cheerleading outfit?

The redhead giggled.

Willow: Yeah.

Faith: You think I’m that shallow?

Willow: What? No! I just…. I uh….

Faith: I’m kidding. Cordelia…. I dunno…. It’s complicated.

Faith ran her fingers through her dark hair and continued.

Faith: When we were thirteen, she pinned me up against the wall of the girl’s toilets and kissed me.

Willow mouth fell open and the brunette grinned.

Faith: Pretty hard to believe, huh? But, it happened. I’ve been somewhat smitten ever since then.

Her grin faded and she sighed.

Faith: To answer your question, no. It’s not love. It’s more of a “she’s the first girl ever to kiss me, therefore the only girl that’s interested in me” kinda thing. I wouldn’t call it love. Why did you ask anyway?

Willow was silent and it took Faith a second to realise exactly why she’d asked the question.

Faith: Will…. Are you falling for someone?

Still, she said nothing. Only lowered her gaze. Faith dipped her head to look at Willow, tilting it to one side. She didn’t need an answer, it was written all over the redhead’s face.

Faith: Who?

The conversation stopped when Tara walked into the room and Willow immediately lifted her head to look at the blonde.

Tara: C-can I get something t-to eat?

Willow: Sure you can. You don’t have to ask, Tara.

She smiled and Tara returned it, hesitantly. The blonde continued walked and disappeared into the kitchen, not seeing Willow’s eyes following her all the way. She turned back to Faith who looked at her and arched an eyebrow. The redhead’s smile faded. Willow dropped her head again while Faith sat, rather shocked.

Faith: Tara?

The redhead sighed.

Faith: I’m right, aren’t I?

Willow: I….

Faith: What?

Willow: I don’t know.

Faith frowned, confused.

Faith: What do you mean?

Willow lifted her head and the brunette realised that she wasn’t the only one who was confused.

Faith: You don’t know if you love her?

She nodded and asked Faith to lower her voice, remembering Tara was in the kitchen.

Willow: I’m…. confused.

Tears formed in the redhead’s eyes and Faith pulled the other girl into her arms.

Faith: Hey…. you’re not the only person who’s ever felt like this, Will. Everyone gets confused for one reason or another.

Willow: Why, why is it so hard?

Faith: If I knew the answer to that, I could make millions making everyone’s life less complicated.

After a while, after Tara had gone back upstairs, Faith asked Willow about her feelings.

Faith: Just tell me how you feel. It’ll help. Believe me, I know.

Willow smiled, remembering the first time Faith had told her about her feelings towards a girl in their math class.

Willow: Tara’s…. special. When I’m with her, it’s like nothing I’ve ever felt before. I’m happy, but it’s like this insane happy that makes me giddy. I get butterflies and there’s always this heat…. It’s everywhere. Consuming me. It’s like the moon’s out in the sky and darkness is everywhere…. But when I look at her, it’s sunny and everything is bright and shinning. There’s this electricity that passes between us when she touches me…. And when I look into her eyes…. There’s a force so strong there, I can’t look away.

Faith sighed and her body shook slightly as she chuckled.

Faith: Jeez Will, you are a writer.

Willow: Do you think I’m crazy?

Faith: You’re not crazy, Will.

Willow: You mean I made sense?

Faith: The whole world might be messed up, but that made more sense then anything I’ve ever heard.

Later

After Faith had left, Willow sat alone in the living room, thinking. She and Faith had talked for a long time, but for some reason, she still wasn’t any clear on what she wanted. It was easy enough for her to say that she wanted Tara, but then there were all these obstacles in the way and she didn’t know how to get past them. Why couldn’t things be easy for her? Just once. She sighed and held her hands to her face.

This is driving me mad. I’ll be in a mental institution before I’m eighteen.

She dropped her hands to her knees and looked vacantly at the blank television screen. She didn’t even hear Tara come down the stairs and it was only when the blonde stood in front of her that she noticed her.

Willow: Hey.

Tara: Hey.

Willow frowned as her eyes swept over Tara’s pale blue jacket.

Willow: What are you doing?

Tara: I um…. I’m g-gonna go home.

The redhead got to her feet, her frown deepening.

Willow: What?

Tara: I-it’s getting l-late…. And, and I never w-went home last night….

Willow: You’re not serious, are you? Tara, you can’t go back there. Not after what he did to you.

Tara: He-he doesn’t m-mean it. He just…. Gets angry. It’s m-my fault, I-I sh-should do as I’m told….

Willow: Don’t. Don’t stand there and make excuses for him.

Her voice softened and she took a step towards Tara.

Willow: None of this is your fault, Tara. Don’t blame yourself.

Tara: Willow…. I-I have to go home…. My-my dad, h-he’ll be worried.

She couldn’t believe she was hearing this. Tara blamed herself for what her dad was doing to her, was seconds away from going home and there was nothing Willow could do to stop her.

Willow: I can’t make you stay, Tara…. But I don’t want you to go.

Tara: I have t-to.

The taller girl leaned down and placed a soft kiss on the redhead’s cheek.

Tara: Thank you. F-for everything.

And she left.

Arg! She left? Nooooo! She's not allowed to do that. On other notes, I liked the conversation between Faith and Willow and the interaction between Willow and Tara. Looking forward to more.
