PART 1:
VOICE OVER:
Two households both alike in dignity in fair Sunny dale, Where we lay our scene, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean, From forth the fatal loins of these two foes, A pair of star crossed lovers meet and fall in love. Whose misadventured piteous overthrows doth with their true love, Bury their parents strife. The fearful passage of their true love marked by pain, And the continuance of their parents rage, Which but their children's love not could remove, Is now the two hours traffic of our stage
It's mid afternoon and we can see the highway. The sky is a clear blue and the sun is shining down upon the road. Then we see a huge dark sedan, windows tinted gold, headlights blazing, powers directly for us. It rushes past a huge truck and a limo. Like thunderous, jousting opponents, the cars pass in a deafening cacophony of noise. We can see a young girl sitting up in the car, laughing and drinking a beer.
BUFFY: A dog of the house of Capulet moves me!
She and the pimply-faced front-seat passenger, DAWN, explode with laughter. The dark headed driver XANDER, who has a patch over his left eye, keeps on mind on the road. The truck spirals down an exit ramp and screeches into busy driveway of a large gas station. Attendants immediately run to the truck. Two clean windshields and duco, the third fills the gas tank. Buffy in the back seat is boasting outrageously.
BUFFY: A dog of that house shall move me to stand. I will take the wall of any man or maid of Maclay.
Dawn nods sarcastically. Her smile is now cocky.
DAWN: We slay Maclay's everyday! Such a weak slave bows at Maclay's feet.
BUFFY: 'Tis true; and therefore women, being the weaker vessels, are nothing but slags. I am the one who slays the loser's in Maclay's family.
Xander, disgusted, gets out of the car.
XANDER: The quarrel is between our masters...
BUFFY ( Yelling at Xander): ...and us their friends
Xander turns his back to them and heads to the bathroom. He walks passed a mother wrangling three little boys out of a station wagon - the smallest kid carries a toy pistol. Then we see past the mother to - the huge black sedan pulling up outside the gas station mini-mart. The front door of the sedan opens. Shiny black boots - decorated with tiny, silver, cat-shaped spurs - plant themselves on the ground. The boots are joined by two other pairs of well-shod feet. The spurred boots walk away from the car. The other feet belong to a tough-looking Latin youth FAITH - and her young looking friend ANGEL. They both walk into the mini mart while 4 white clad girls leave. The young girl's see BUFFY and DAWN talking and acting the fools.
BUFFY: I will show the world the hottest little girl. The girl who beds the virgin's. But when I have I have fought with the men I will be civil with the maids, I will stake them through their hearts!
DAWN ( pulls a mocking voice) Stake them all!! Thats very mean dear sister
BUFFY leers lecherously at the girls.
BUFFY: Yeah, all the girls! I dont care who lives or dies....Rosenbreg will rule this world
DAWN: Unless Maclay's get there first
BUFFY and DAWN pump up the song on the sound system and sing out at the girls.
BUFFY/ DAWN (singing) Not gonna get us
They are not gonna get us
Not gonna get us
Not gonna get us
They are not gonna get us
They are not gonna get us
Not gonna get us
The girls who are scared to death, hurry into their car and just try to get away. The car pulls away revealing... FAITH and ANGEL exiting the mini-mart. We see BUFFY and DAWN still singing along to TaTu loud and proud. Then DAWN looks up and see's FAITH and ANGEL watching them. Their eye's met arcoss the car park.
DAWN: Here comes of the House of Maclay
FAITH and ANGEL stare coldly toward the boys. ANGEL touches his face, his sun screen comes off and he walks back into the shadow. FAITH hands him some cream before standing her ground. DAWN licks her dry lips and looks over to her sister. BUFFY; eyes locked to the Maclays. With fake bravado she nudges DAWN.
BUFFY: Quarrel I will back thee.
DAWN trying to quell her rising panic. Her eye's are fulled with fear.
DAWN: You know the law wont help us. We need to back away or let them began
Then a huge bang can be heared. Both BUFFY and DAWN jump up, hands reaching for their guns. Then they see the garage attendant slamming the hood. BUFFY and DAWN are mortally embarrassed. FAITH and ANGEL laugh contemptuously and move to their car. ANGEL see's the mother and her children leave the shop. We see DAWN and BUFFY hiding in their car. They both furiously tries to save face.
BUFFY: I will bite my thumb at them; which is a disgrace to them if they bear it
BUFFY quickly bites her thumb toward FAITH'S back as she gets into the sedan.
FAITH'S eyes flick to the rear view mirror. In the rear view mirror; she can see BUFFY biting her thumb. Suddenly, a blood curdling screech of tires - the sedan, rubber burning, reverses full speed toward BUFFY and DAWN. The mother in the station wagon brakes to avoid collision - a sports car shunts into her vehicle. Mother and children scream. Attendants scatter. The MACLAY car shudders to a halt inches from the truck, blocking its path. FAITH gets out of her car and hauls BUFFY from the truck. DAWN leaps out, ANGEL covers her. FAITH slams BUFFY against the side of the vehicle - then, goading her to go for her gun, screams:
FAITH: Do you bite your thumb at us, slayer?
BUFFY's shaking hand hovers - ready to draw.
BUFFY: I do bite my thumb, slayer
The panicked mother in the station wagon. She motions her children to the floor. All the Customers run for cover. FAITH is now in a hysterical rage; she shrieks:
FAITH: Do you bite you thumb at us, slayer?
BUFFY ( sweating, murmurs to DAWN) Is the law on our side if I say "yes"?
DAWN: No! Buffy give it up!
We are now in the bathroom. We see black cowboy boots, trousers down around them. The sound of a toilet flushing. The next cubicle, the door opens revealing XANDER. We head back outside and see BUFFY and FAITH still standing off.
BUFFY ( She is sweaty and worried): No, sir, I do not bite my thumb at you, slayer - but I do bite my thumb, slayer!
DAWN is watching her sister panic. She knows its time to speak up.
DAWN: Do you quarrel, slayer?
FAITH gives her a dangous smile. She was enjoying this alittle too much.
FAITH: Quarrel girl, no Dawnie
All the sudden BUFFY gets brave. She moves away from FAITH and kinds smile's at her
BUFFY: But if you do, miss, I am for you. I serve as good a girl as you
FAITH looks at BUFFY. Her eye's were wild with rage now. FAITH asks a lethal question.
FAITH: No better?
BUFFY then begans to feel trapped. She has pissed FAITH off big time now
BUFFY: Well, Faith I ermmmm
From Inside the station wagon. The mother does not notice her five year old aiming a toy gun toward the boys. Then Xnader emerging from the bathroom - DAWN see's him and starts to whispers maniacally
DAWN: Here comes our kinsman. Say better!
Then BUFFY smiles, stands up fully and pushes FAITH away
BUFFY ( screaming) YES SLAYER, BETTER!
FAITH screams with rage at BUFFY
FAITH: YOU LIER!!!!!!!
XANDER looks around and see's the trouble. He can see BUFFY and DAWN looking
worried and Maclay's gang ready for action.
FAITH: Faith if you dare!
We see all hands reach for guns. We also see BUFFY reaching for her stake. Then XANDER with weapon outstretched he screams:
XANDER: Part, fools! You know not what you do!
FAITH points her gun to everyone. She is full of rage and she wants blood. ANGEL is watching her every move. We see FAITH's gun and its engraved with:
I am the slayer!
XANDER: Put up your swords!
BUFFY, DAWN, FAITH, and ANGEL freeze. A moment - then from behind, the unmistakable sound of a gun being cocked. We see black cowboy boots. Then we come across dark cold eyes and feline smile, of the wearer of the boots. Her name is FRED; a cigarette is clenched between her teeth and her gun is aimed at XANDER's head.
FRED: What, art thou drawn amoung these heartless hinds? Turn thee XANDER.
XANDER, a choked explanation:
XANDER: I do but keep the peace.
FRED gives him a mocking smile...it chills him to the bone
FRED: Peace? I hate the word As I hate hell, all Rosenbergs, and...
We all see FRED's finger squeezing the trigger... Suddenly we hear firing from FRED's blind side. FRED redirects her weapon, cracking off a single shot at the surprise attacker. It is the five year old from the station wagon. The bullet smacks the toy gun from the child's hand, shattering the wagon's window. The Mother and children scream. A panicked XANDER falls back, accidentally his gun fires - the bullet whistles past FRED's head. FRED combat rolls, and using a screaming car load of girls as cover, returns two quick shots, narrowly missing XANDER. We see the the gas station attendant hitting a button and heavy metal screens slam down.
We see BUFFY firing - a bullet rips through FAITH's arm. ANGEL dives for cover; DAWN and DAWN leap into XANDER's truck. Rubber burns as they smash past the Maclay vehicle. We see FRED taking aim. Her first shot plugs the fuel tank, the second a tire. Out of control and spewing gasoline the Rosenberg truck careens across the highway and through the glass front of a supermarket. BUFFY and DAWN throw themselves from the truck moments before...then the gas tank erupts into an almighty fireball.
Then we a older man sitting around a table. He is the powerful 50 year old face of MARTIN MACLAY. Seated next to him is his much younger wife HEATHER.
Windows explode in a tidal wave of glass. Diners take cover. MACLAY moves fearlessly toward the window.
MARTIN MACLAY: Give me my long sword!
Then we see the name ROSENBERG. We see the word is the number plate of a large black limousine. The limousine is stuck in the traffic snarl - bullets bounce off its bullet proof
windshield. We see LRA ROSENBERG, a 55 year old red-faced bulldog of a man, bursts from the back of the limousine.
LRA ROSENBERG: What noise is this!
As LRA draws an enormous pearl handed revolver, SHELIA, his conservatively dressed wife, tries to restrain him
SHELIA: I wont let you make it worse! Let them fight it out
LRA: Hold me not, let me go!
Then we head back to the fighting. We see XANDER Crouched behind a truck, trying to reload his gun. Then we see the barrel of FRED's gun enters frame and presses into XANDER's forehead. FRED whispers sweetly
FRED: Look upon your death, Xander
We see FRED's finger on the trigger. XANDER screams a scream of mortal horror. Suddenly FRED is blinded by a burning shaft of light. A magnificently powerful helicopter gunship hovers above her. A command booms from the chopper's public address system.
CAPTAIN GILES ( over PA): Rebellious subjects, enemies to peace, Throw your mistempered weapons to the ground
The steely gray eyes of CAPTAIN GILES, chief of the Sunny dale Beach Police Department. He lifts the microphone and repeats the command.
CAPTAIN GILES: Throw your mistempered weapons to the ground!
FRED looks up to the chopper. Patrol cars screech to a halt. We can see that Sunny dale has a trail of devastation winds up through grid-locked traffic to the burning supermarket. In the distance looms an enormous statue of Christ flanked by two glass towers. We push toward the towers. One is neon-crowned ROSENBERG, the other, MACLAY.
A swarm of helicopters thunder into frame. We see compressed, time-lapsed, images of their journey. We see a coat of arms that labels a large tower - the emblem reads; "Sunny dale Beach Police Department: In God We Trust".
Then we are in the local police station. We see CAPTAIN GILES grim features. He eyes MACLAY and ROSENBERG.
CAPTAIN GILES: Three civil brawls, bred of an airy word By thee, old Maclay, and Rosenbreg, Have once again disturbed the quiet of our streets.
MACLAY's lawyer tries to intervene.
LAWYER: My noble Prince I can...
CAPTAIN GILES overriding, slams the desk
CAPTAIN GILES: If ever you disturb our streets again, Your lives shall pay the forfeit of the peace.
The whole room looks upom CAPTAIN GILES's determined gaze
