I'm not usually a nitpicker to be honest. It's just that they drummed the smelling thing into us so much over at Angel (and to be honest the thought completely icked me out).

I'll grant you that Spike was pretty out of it at the time, but, though I hate to say this of the Buffy and Angel writers, I think it was a teeny tiny bit of a mistake. Don't even get me started on Angel's "I have no breath" statement from way back in season one .
