Rome has no shortage of good Irish pubs, walker. It's weird. I spent a year there drinking at them all.

Hey, you need something to clear the palate after all that wine. :)

Since I just finished a long week at work, it feels pretty darn good to be home catching up with the kittens. But since there's also lots of housework to be done and 50 term papers to grade, "anywhere but here" would be on the beach in Nice, after having bought yummy stuff for a picnic at the open-air market. The sun's setting over the curve in the coastline and all the terra-cotta roofs are practically glowing in the slanting sunlight. And tomorrow we're going to the Matisse museum...

Sigh.

Hey Guys!

not sure if this is o.k. to post but i think it might be interesting for those of us in the New England area. It is gay produced, written and performed as a parody of the show:

For years, Buffy put the pow in girl power. But she'll need more than Slayer strength to face this ancient ritual. With some help from her friends - Willow, Xander, and Giles - Buffy must deal with crepe paper, Spiked punch, and an evil plot to turn the whole town into perky cheerleaders!

Ever get the feeling that life is just all vampires all the time?
The players at the relatively new Queer Soup Production Company apparently agree. Friday through Sunday from December 6 through 21, Queer Soup will be presenting Buffy the Vampire Slayers High School Reunion at Theater 1 (formerly the Dollhouse Theater), 731 Harrison Avenue in the South End. Tickets are $15 and $20 (617-290-6809), or visit www.brianandmal.com.

walker, i think that there is an irish pub in every major or not-so-major city of the world. and they often become big hang-outs for expats and tourists. i know that in both bologna, italy, and tuebingen, germany, the foreign students used to hang out there a lot. there was not, however, an irish pub in my little fishing town of mokpo, south korea, though there was at least one in seoul. and there is an irish pub (o'sullivan's) right near the div school here in cambridge, massachusetts :grin .

as for where i'd be - on the beach on maui with friends and some weed.

Ruby - You spent a YEAR drinking in pubs. I think on that basis alone I can make you an honorary Scot.;)

La - you see that's my point. The Irish are covertly trying to take over the world by planting mini-colonies everywhere in the form of Irish pubs. That or I got an early start on your weed.:whistle

I know they're everywhere but I still find it odd to visit the Colloseum and then come across a pub called Mulligan's, complete with fighting leprechaun, a few minute's walk away.

I would be sitting at a small cafe almost anywhere in Italy, most likely in one of the towns in Cinque Terre, sipping a glass of chianti, watching the ocean and snuggled up next to my girlfriend.

So. I just came in to the room in our flat with the computer with internet access. And it was very cold. So I decided to shut the door. Forgetting that the door handle had fallen off. And is outside the door. And I'm kind of trapped. Like a complete spaz.

So, where would I rather be?

I don't actually mind being here, but I'd like to be able to get out.

Yes, I am a retard.

It's not funny any more, cos I really need to pee, and I really am stuck.

Time to get large with the butch and smash the door down, I think.

The weird thing with me is that the place I would be doesn't even exist. I'm more like, it's more about wanting to be in a certain...er... moment.. you know? like with someone at a certain time. but the place? I'd go for beach. I am SUCH an ocean girl since I was born and lived on an island for nearly 10 years of my life, so the ocean is this big thing for me!

great thread!!

Where's my "wishing I was there" place??

Well, there's this island that I know where I can meet some friends & we sleep in a cuddlepuddle & we don't worry about clothes... there's a hot tub in the sports bar and a tea house that makes a great pot of tea and great coffee, too. There's an ice cream shoppe that has Ben & Jerry's, Godiva, Baskin Robbins & every flavor of ice cream imaginable.

The weather is always just warm enough, but with a light breeze to keep it nice.. There's a wonderful tree to sit under and read or think or just be quiet. And sometimes, just because, it rains skittles candy... from a rainbow.

I have some great friends on the island who are just absolutely wonderful people.. we have great fun & craziness, but we still are quick to offer a shoulder & a mixed drink if necessary. Sometimes all we need is a snuggle in the cuddlepuddle and everyone is always happy be warm and comfy and loved there.

Yeah, I'm talking about Lurker's Island and yes, it is pure unadulterated craziness... but it also is a place where I can take a moment to recharge, relax & smile. I can be anywhere and I can visualize the island and it is magic for me.

Do I wish it was real?? To me, in a crazy & special way, it is real. It is a place where friends can gather & smile & be themselves. And be loved.

well, DawnsMan, and anyone else in the Boston area, I'm trying to plan a boston-area kitten get-together (which I did post in the gatherings thread, but i'm posting here for those who didn't catch it in the other thread), so if you are interested in a possible gathering in december some time, send me an email: lasahana@hotmail.com!

and i completely totally second skittles' post about Lurker's Island. I love that place. A few weeks ago, I almost got into a whipped cream fight with my brother, but instead thought about how I could go have food fights on the island without having to actually clean my apartment afterwards :) And hey, on the island, we have all the weed we want (though we tend to call it "tea") :grin

Give me a nice meadow with a stream running by it and I'll be sitting under a tree reading one of my favorite books.
Contentment with the simple things in life.
Now, if only Alyson or Amber were there to join me.
It's my fantasy, I can choose my ideal companions.

Since it is "anywhere":

Space. Maybe on the moon, but just being in orbit around Earth would be fine, too. I'm not that hard to please :grin

WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm free from my prison.

I got trapped in this room last night, and after several unsuccessful attempts to bash down the door, with wrenches and tweezers and slippers, I gave up, and fell asleep in here.

But I got let out this morning by my slightly bewildered flatmate. She's only just woken up, so I hope she thinks I was just an apparition. And won't tell anyone.

And now I can go any where I want.

So I'm off to the supermarket to look at cute girls.

Anywhere huh? It seems I'm a combination of everyone else here. I love to just hang out, usually at home, with the people I love. My gf, my friends, my neices or my 2 year old god son who never ceases to make me smile.

But lately, I've wished for just a day, one whole day, where I can snuggle down with my girl, watches silly movies, laugh, talk, turn off the phones, turn off the news, not have to deal with people who make me crazy and just enjoy each other's company. Now that sounds like heaven!

Have to agree with you kanina but I'm gonna be kindof greedy cause not only do I want that one day with my girl, without the phones, no work, nobody to interupt or stress us out, to make her breakfast in bed but I also need to have at least 10 days to completly spoil her. Our own perfect, personal paradise, no matter where. All that matters is that we are together and that I get to show her each and every moment how she is my calm, my light, my air, my sanctuary. One day is just a start, a perfect start.
