Well before you make statements like this one, you should wait till your team actually [b:ed929d61f7] wins[/b:ed929d61f7] a cup, then we can compare that with Montreals [b:ed929d61f7] 24[/b:ed929d61f7] Stanley Cups.

I would like to cash in my winning ticket now.. Arizona Cardinals, Phoenix Suns. Talk about your OUCH!!! I will proudly proclaim that my state is dumb, but I live there anyway (for like 2 more months, but that's beside the point). So nobody worry, you're not the worst!

No, actually I didn't know that about Peter, he's still a greedy carpet bagger, that should be kicked out of sports. He had town against town fighting over the Whalers and Raleigh or actually the RTP won only because we had more money. I sure he's going to sell off the players for a buck as soon as he can. I'm sorry he's from your town.
[/quote:ec5f40dc5a]

You have to have money to run a sports franchise. People in Hartford hate Mr. Karmanos, but the truth is that the Whalers were in a no-win situation financially as they were stuck in between big market teams in Boston and New York. Greedy? Even with getting to the Finals, the 'Canes will still lose money. He has lost more than $100 million dollars by investing in hockey because he truly loves the sport. And I'm not sorry he's from Detroit. He has done a ton for our downtown and done more for cancer research (Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute) than anyone else I know. He also has a reputation of being a very kind generous man. And it's not even as if I admire the man. This is just what I've read about him over and over again. I'm sure there are plenty of bad things about him, too. But sorry he's a Detroiter? I don't think so.

[quote:ec5f40dc5a][b:ec5f40dc5a][i:ec5f40dc5a]Quote:[/i:ec5f40dc5a][/b:ec5f40dc5a]
I got my sources are the US census, and the FBI crime rates, people are leaving your city faster than they are moving to mine. The Red Wings fans, radio shows, and newspapers in general were insulting but it was when a friend of mine was threatened by fans in Joe Louis arena, only to be rescued by the police did I get upset.
[/quote:ec5f40dc5a]

I can tell you that a 'Canes fan spit at my brother-in-law when he attended a Finals game last weekend. I assume that the guy was an asshole, not that everyone in Raleigh is a jerk. But, hey, that's just me. A friend of mine was actually decked by a Blackhawks fan a few seasons ago. I don't hate or judge Chicago over an idiot. I also know people from Raleigh who attended the games at The Joe and raved about how polite people were. An incident does not a city make.

And once again, why are you spewing this to Kittens? All I ever said was that I was proud of the Wings and then you laid into our city.

Does Detroit have more crime than Raleigh? Sure. We have more EVERYTHING than Raleigh. We're bigger. I could throw a lot of stats at you that counter your attack, but it's clear that you just want to be insulting to Detroit. Go right ahead. Like I said, you're just perpetuating a behavior you say you don't approve of.

How cheap and petty.

I am so sorry--I meant that poor Montreal was beaten up by injuries--not that the cane's did it. That, at one time, I think you guys had 4(?) injured starters at once? I really did not mean to imply that the cane's were anywhere near you guys!

Isn't 24 cups or championships a record in professional sports?

oooookay then. Sports has now officially joined politics and religion as a dangerous topic. So talking about politicians that use religion as sport is definitly out.

And sporting a politician to a religious event. Also bad.

I think that now leaves us with band camp stories for the rest of the night. Of course I never went to band camp just debate camp and that's a whole 'nother level of geekiness. And no good story starts with "This one time at debate camp..." - I mean what exciting things can you really do with an index card I ask?

Oh then all is good Diana ;)

Yeah, they were beaten up, but it doesn't really bother me that the Canes beat them, I was just too happy that the got to beat the Bruins first :grin

The 24 championships were a record but now I think the Yankees have it.

Hey-- as a speech & debater (well, formerly) I can testify that some pretty weird things happen @ tournaments... one can only wonder what would have happened at a CAMP... :evil

So, how about that religiously affiliated political party-sponsored random local sports team?

Hey Amy...the Tigers are actually beating Curt Schilling 6-1. Go figure...
Maybe they caught a dose of Red Wing pride.

I am sure that you did in fact go to band camp Autumn, you are just a big fat liar... oh wait that is SDK.
I never went to band camp, I never played an instrument, my Mothers attempts at piano lessons a complete failure.

However I once had to go to bible camp where the highlights of my weekend were, cussing out one of the fellow campers and finding another one's retainer at the bottom of the pool.

Amy:

I have to admit, since Lemieux left for Phoenix via New Jersey and Lapointe departed for Boston, the Avs/Wings rivalry doesn't have that nasty edge anymore. I thought the Wings, with the exception of Fisher (sp?) played a clean game overall, and won my respect. It was a fine series. It's too bad about Game 7; it should have been a close one, but I think the Avs were tired after 2 brutal 7 game series in a row, while the Wings were rested after pummeling St. Louis.

Don't revel in your Cup for too long though. Bowman's gone, Hasek may retire, and I bet Larionov and Chelios are gone next year too, while the Avs have all their players back, including Peter the Great, who will skate the whole season. Goddess, it was amazing to see what he did in the playoffs after sitting out the whole season.

Go AVS!!!!

I second Rally on this one...Willowlicious made a very strong case for Red Wings fans on this board. We won the Cup. You don't like it, Arafel. Oh well...such is life. And I live and work surrounded by Avs fans. I'm proud of my hometown and my team...and I celebrated our win without rubbing it in people's faces around here. Take a note here -- it's called GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP.

Thanks again Willowlicious...good to have another proud Detroiter on the boards.

I, for one, have no friggin' clue about American teams' performances (coz, you know: wrong continent :) ) but I'm particularly taken with the word "Red" in Red Wings... Ah, sweet willowy redheads... Don't mind me: it's crazy association day again ;)

Jeez, Peg and Rally, perhaps you should chill! I did say the Wing Dings had won my respect after that series, and just wish game 7 had been closer, because it would have been a fitting climax to an intense series instead of the blowout that the Wings won by.

Yes, congrats on the Wings, but the Avs will be back!!!
