Don't give up hope

Well thanks for your post melissande. It makes sense.
It's good you had an open mind too.

Stay awhile, the kitties don't bite even if you disagree with them too on other things.

Don't give up hope

Postby cmr2001 » Fri Jul 12, 2002 11:09 pm

I first want to apologize if I am posting in the incorrect place. I wanted to just start off by saying that I was introduced to the kitten board because I found it to be an informative place to find spoilers, I was right. I have been coming to the board for over five months reading all the threads and the conversations amongst all of you. I have to say that I have learned a tremendous amount by just observing, and I although I don't post, I continue to come and read not for the spoilers anymore (because I really don't care what happens on the show) but just to understand more of what you all are going through. I have to say that I was intimidated after reading the FAQ page and wondered whether I even had the right to post. I could say that I empathize, however that would be inaccurate. It would be like me saying that I know what African Americans go through as a white female, but how could I. I do not face the challenges that they face nor do I face the challenges that you all face. Yes, I struggle as a woman, but now I know that I am not alone and am embarassed for complaining and not knowing more of what you all endure. I also wanted to state that the WT relationship meant alot to more than just the gay community. Their relationship was kind, equal, loving, and a relationship that any couple should strive for and try to emulate. Apparently ME did not share these views (and may never will), and I don't think they could have foreseen the consequences of destroying the relationship (but that discussion is a topic for another board). Ignorance is something that is difficult to fight. It is like banging your head against the wall and only getting as a result a very big headache. People are just not open to new ideas or learning new things and will never. It is ashame that there are those that can only succeed, prosper and advance by suppressing others, and their ideas, as opposed to growing together. For every one of those people, however, I do believe there are people willing to learn. I for one never heard of the "lesbian cliche" or how it was portrayed in the media. I must have seen it play out a million times but just never recognized it. That is not the case anymore. I have seen the issue analyzed and disected on this board and have read so many intelligent, wellthought out articles on the issue, that I now get a sense of how widespread the problem of ignorance is. I do think, however, that things have improved, although maybe not as quick as some may like. My best friend is gay and did not come out until college and well into it, and that was over seven years ago. I asked myself why, but I need to look no further than this board to understand. My cousin, however, just graduated from highschool and many of her friends were out and in happy steady relationships. This must be a sign of progress. Also I surf other sites as well and as all of you know the word has traveled. People are talking about it, and if anything came from the death of Tara and the end of an incredible relationship it is that people are becoming more aware. What those people choose to do with such information is something you cannot control, unfortunately (Back to the banging the head issue).
This board is a tribute to your plight and a place for strength, comfort and support. It is amazing to see all of you interact and support each other, and, from what I have read about all those that have met AB, I think the way she embraced the role was more than just talented acting. I would reiterate all those that spoke before me about "keeping hope". I will continue to come and read and laugh and, yes, sometimes cry, and encourage others to do the same. Again I apologize for any error in the post (Ms. Moderator, I promise I did read this thread, the FAQ and the other threads). Keep your chins up. :)
