Joss says Tara's gone

Re: Eliza Dushku-
I spoke with her on her press junket in Minneapolis on Beltane, and she stated that she is "always open to coming back to BTVS--Joss knows that all he has to do is call". While she may be doing movies, she seemed to want to take on any project that invoked a challenge...

Actually, there were several newspaper articles written about this. Basically talking about how after Sept.11th, people were looking for lighter fare and turning back to some of the old, familar favorites, such as Friends, and how their ratings had gone up alot this last season. People were looking for comfort from shows....

Druidess-- Thanks for the info... it's nice to know that Faith could come back, since she has alwas showed a little bit of wit and edginess that has livened up the show (esp. in the later appearences of hers). maybe she could pick up some of the pieces next season? (I could see the first line: "And you thought I was unstable?" :) )

Season 5 was dark, just like every season has been really, but like Autumn pointed out, it was balanced by humour, and hope as well. That season had it all, and I did not mind the angst one bit, including the WT angst. Did it make sense for S6 to descend into utter despair? Whatever, it does not excuse what they did. Killing Tara is their "right", but not the lying before, not the spitting in our faces afterwards. And next season they are going to make more upbeat and happy. *snort* Yeah that sounds believable alright. Let's start thinking up reasons for that to make sense as well. Good Luck.

Look, I come to the Kitten to be bitter. If you're going to be throwing out things like Faith reappearing and saying "And you thought I was unstable", which cause me to spray beer all over my monitor and experience such alien concepts as "laughter" and "wit", I'm going to have to... uh... keep coming here.

My wife made me watch a movie (any movie which makes me cry is one she made me watch, 'cuz I'm a big macho guy who doesn't cry) in which Dolly Parton said "Laughter through tears is my favourite emotion." That used to be what I liked about BtVS.

It's nice to know I can get my fix.

That was "Steel Magnolias". Didn't much like the movie myself, except for the rivalry between Olympia Dukakis and Shirley Maclaine.

I would read the thread and find out for myself, but hello, too many spoilers...

Joss has said publicly that Tara will not be back, but Amber will. We dont know in what capacity Amber will return or for how long. Now you know as much as we do. :D

I want to change tackt a little, please repost this if its in the wrong place. But did anyone think that the production values for season 6 felt, well off. I mean it just felt badly edited and put together during some episodes. Especially after Tabula Rosa things didnt seem to look as well put together. I know thats when Marti took over for good and I am hesitent to be critical of her for this as we dont know it was her fault but I mean Gone when the music comes in at the end with Buffy and Willow sititng on the pavement just seemed umprofessional, i can think of other examples some scenes in Dead Things spring to mind. But yeah did anyone else notice this?

Penrose, I loved Steel Magnolias, not the sad part of it, but the relationship between the women.. i loved the cast, especially Oypmia Dukakis and Shirley McClaine, those two were hilarious in their roles..Had some wonderful dialogue in the movie as well, one line comes to mind, someone used it on the kitten once lol, Olympia Dukakis tells Shirley McClaine "you know I love ya more than my luggage", when you find out what Olympia Dukakis character is like, youll find that line says alot...And Shirley McClain replying i think to someone who says shes mean or something like that says "....ive just been in a bad mood for the last 40 years"... :lol

I have only seen clips of S6 downloaded from the Internet, but I agree that the production values do seem to be pretty off. I really think they are trying less hard. It is the scripts that bother me most of all, though. Looking at write-ups and watching scenes - where's the humour, the sassiness, the wit, the spark?! Watching a Season 2 episode I saw how damn FUNNY this show used to be. The same for Season 4, for example, Xander's-

"blah blah blah - Tara's your girlfriend?!?!"

(off-camera) GILES: Bloody hell!

It's not so funny on paper, but the scene itself is a classic (I think it's from The Yoko Factor, someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Where HAS all the humour gone?

The same place as all the other happiness in the show/the characters: down the hazardous sinkhole labelled "What they want is not necessarily what they need"... Dumb Joss and his moralizing egotism!!! :mad

I have to agree with themagicpixie--Season 6 seems to have been peculiarly humorless.:(

I've already mentioned several times on this board that I've obtained the newly released set of Season 2 on DVD. It turns out that virtually all the wonderful lines and quotes that one sees cited everywhere come from this season! It's this kind of "sparkle" that made the show so enjoyable.

It seems that JW/MN now seem to think that they are writing "Hamlet" or "King Lear"--"semper Buffy semper dolens". Somebody has to tell them that this show is [i:d6e833271c] not[/i:d6e833271c] supposed to be "high drama" or "operatic tragedy" (I base this statement on the very words pronounced by Whedon himself!). One is forced to ask oneself: is this a question of ego or of simple blind obstuseness?

Darned if I know.

Blimey Hemiola, I'm a bit too drunk for those kind of questions (though I guess I wouldn't be much better at answering them were I sober).

I think the producers have basically forgotten that they are making ENTERTAINMENT, rather than writing a TV show that helps them deal with ya know, all their own issues. All this: we are giving you what you need, not what you want-attitude is not only condescending but arrogant - thanks, Joss, but I am a grown-up and can work out for myself life sucks and that some things are difficult and painful. Those who are children shouldn't be watching a show packed with such sex (I mean the gratuitous violent B/S action, not to offend any Spuffy fans, but I wouldn't let my kids watch that) and most notably violence (e.g. women getting shot through the heart by murderous rapist-types).

It's all very badly-thought out. Shockingly, and laughably, ill-thought out.

I want fun on my TV! Not all this death and angst, and badly-scripted death and angst, too, with absolutely no light side to compensate. There were, as far as I can figure out, about three funny lines in Season 6.

And don't forget, Hemiola, that even Shakespeare's tragedies have wonderful moments of levity, wordplay, comic characters or ironic observations! Needess to say, Joss isn't closing in on the Bard, and shouldn't count on doing it any time soon!

OK fellow kittens - i have a two week old baby at home, so i am sleep deprived so bear with me for not getting all just exactly purr-fect, but here goes...i was watching a repeat BTVS on fax tonight, i think from Season 2, Beauty & The Beasts, i think....anyway...Buffy goes to see her guidance counselor who tells her the following: "I'm telling you what you need, not what you want..."

now, am I crazy or did i recently hear this same thing from Mr. Whedon's mouth???

is it weird to quote your own characters???

Not sure if it's weird to quote you're own characters (after all, you put the words there to begin with. So they may contain bits of truth you happen to believe)

It *is* a bit strange if that's the relationship he sees himself having with his audience, though... ;)

Yeah when I was doing my last my video, which was all season 5. Spike says at one point, something to the effect, "I am betting when it's all said and done, she (meaning Buffy) likes it rough."

ME canabalizing itself as usual.
