I took the effort to write those fuckers a complaint email. It reads:

What is wrong with you retards? "TV-14". What is so complicated about that? If you people were such awesome fucking parents you would know to keep your 12, 10, and 8 year old children from watching this show. See that's the wonderful thing about TV, you don't have to watch it. And if you're such wonderful parents you can monitor your kids so that they don't watch shows rated for people older than them.

Too harsh?

yeah Puff, same here.

Plus the thing that I sometimes concider (after hearing/reading such crap) to write a polite e-mail.. one they would actually read with open eyes.. but as soon as I think that it sounds ridiculous. Open eyes and such wankers (oops :o ) in the same sentence just doesn't make any sense.. besides I bet I couldn't stay (by any means) polite!

Am I the only one confused as to why parents are complaining about T.V. shows that are clearly NOT children's programming. I'm sorry, but in my family we're very careful about what my nephew watches. If we're unsure about suitability we tape it and watch it. If it's fine we let him see it. If not it's taped over.

Not difficult steps to take. Painful occasionally given the drivel that young boys seem to enjoy.

When idiots like this object to what I watch I sigh in relief.

Well, if they were REALLY good parents, they'd turn off the TV completely and make their kids read a book ;)

Seriously, though ... these people make me want to send them a little note that says: "Excuse me, but The Rapture already happened. The police are still looking for the three people who mysteriously disappeared." The Religious Right loves that.

But then I realized that would involve actually >contacting< these people, and ... I just don't want to. *shrug*

Shrug. Watch me not caring. These people are such fools. No, Buffy's not a *kids* show. Hence the warning before each ep. It should be up to each parent to decide if *their* child is ready to handle the mature material Buffy deals with. (Hell, sometimes I'm not sure *I'm* ready to handle some the the mature material Buffy deals with ;) But as an adult, I'm glad these people aren't deciding for me what I'm able to watch)

Sass, you are right. Good parents should not let their kids watch Buffy anyway. Better parents would make their children read a book.

These people are idiots and frankly even writting to them just feeds their personal crusade. I ignore them when they are harmless and try to stomp them out when they are not.

Personally I am surprised there was not more anti-Witch and anti-Lesbian rhetoric on the site.

But hey, I just got out of my latest legal-go-round with Jack Chick (of the those little religious tracts) ending where it ended last time, in a draw. If anyone is curious about it, here is the site from my web host, www.planetadnd.com/humor/...index.php. Again, not a troll for hits.

It's fun to mess with the closed minded.

Salem, they may have gotten a few points wrong but it seems that these people are watching the show way too closely to be that put off by it. These people are secret wankers. They put down sex and the ways of the flesh and go home and wank off to teen porn.

They weren't to good to our other show - Angel - either. Actually, their sexual problem with Angel was Buffy. Well Buffy does seem to get around... Didn't realize peanut butter offended some people. Must ban Jif, not to mention Peter Pan!

[quote:f8bde797bd][b:f8bde797bd][i:f8bde797bd]Quote:[/i:f8bde797bd][/b:f8bde797bd]
[i:f8bde797bd] This show is [b:f8bde797bd] red-lighted in every category[/b:f8bde797bd]. Last season, sexual content was infrequent but always very offensive. In one episode for example, after having sex with Buffy on a kitchen table, Angel smears chocolate and peanut butter on his chest, inviting Buffy to lick it off.

Offensive language included frequent uses of bitch, son of a bitch, bastard, ass, asshole, damn, hell, and in one instance, a cut-off use of shit.

Violence on Angel frequently involves demons or occultist elements. Parents should also expect to see graphic, gory, and often sexualized violence in every episode. In one flashback to his old days in Romania, Angels vampire patron presents to him as a birthday gift a young gypsy girl who is tied to the floor. As she screams and tries to escape, Angel is shown bending down, pulling up her skirt, sucking on her upper inner thigh while the pleased patron watches. [/i:f8bde797bd]

Bubbles have a tendancy to burst, sometimes releasing what is within.

Ignore them, and they will burrow away, making little alliances here and there with others with similar attitudes, until one day the object of their initial fears, TV shows, will be buried under a sea of intolerance

You / we have to register our opposition, otherwise by doing nothing, they will gradually gain the upper hand.

Edited for going completely OTT and reining it in a bit.

I don't know where I read or heard it but the following quote just popped into my head after reading the postings above:

"The only thing necessary for evil to win is that the good do nothing when they see it happening"

Apologies if I've misquoted but it seemed quite apt considering the medieval attitudes of some morons out there.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that all straight people out here endorse this kind of populist, bigoted clap-trap.

The astounding thing is that they list "7th Heaven", a show that cluelessly promotes child abuse, stalking, misogyny and hypocrisy, as their second-highest rated show. Of course, that should be no surprise since the fact that BtVS is one of the most sincerely ethical shows ever made goes right over their pointy little heads. In essence they are advocating teaching children that style is always to be valued over substance.

The "PTC" is, in fact, only one or two people with a mailing list. (Like the NRA, they claim everyone on their list of purchased names as "members.") The wing nut who runs the PTC, L. Brent Bozell, also runs the Media Research Center, another "organization" that is no more than a knucklehead with a website. His other big cause is exposing the fictional "liberal bias" in the media. The sad thing is, the media take him seriously and slavishly report the tripe he publishes.

If you look carefully at the PTC website you see it only exists to scare advertisers by making them think they're a big organisation. [b:c128a4d599] Their "members' forum" has 0 members and 0 posts.[/b:c128a4d599] Their "employees needed" link makes it clear that they're actually looking for "interns." They obviously don't have the money to actually hire anybody.

Like most conservatives and fundamentalists they are frauds who won't hesitate to lie and cheat, certain that their holier-than-thou ends justify their by-any-means tactics.

This stuff doesn't effect me personally - my parents hardly ever phone me up to make sure I'm watching proper Christian programming any more. ;)

Actually my parents are nice, fairly liberal people; but it does irk me that kids or 15 or 16 are being prevented from watching Buffy because of this kind of crap. Stupidity doesn't prevent someone from becoming a parent, so the many stupid parents are very vulnerable to this kind of thing.

Oddly, Sabrina the Teenage Witch is PTC's 4th best show, even though I'd assumed it promotes satanism and/or paganism. The rest of the top 10 worst and best shows amuse me. I think it's telling that, in Britain, I've heard and watched almost all of the PTC's 'worst' shows, but haven't even [i:f466eb3954] heard[/i:f466eb3954] of the so-called 'best' shows. If they're so bloody great, then why are they unknown outside the US? ;)

Now I'm appreciating having no parents around.

My Mom -- abroad
My Dad -- abroad
My Mom and Dad -- divorced.
My grandparents -- busy taking care of each other... I'm 18, adult, no need to take care of :)

I get to watch what I like. i live my life. See, me and my Mom has an unspoken deal... I get good grades in college and she leaves me alone.

Oh, PTC if you want to get rid of "bad" shows, i guess you have to start with CNN... you don't like violence, right? and maybe McDonald's, too -- they slaughter chicken.

ANd oh, good thing somebody brought up the [i:05ca44796f] seventh Heaven[/i:05ca44796f] thing... i hated that show... and anyone who says they like it automatically gets their name in my "hypocrite" folder. I mean, not even a single Camden is gay! To think they've already got 7 kids... the gay:straight ratio is 1:10, right? There's a huge probability. But this ain't really about gay stuff... i just hate it when people get all so self-righteous.

Why can't we accept each other's differences? I mean, that is the cause of all hate and prejudice... not TV shows.

edited to add: I've seen their top ten lists... and man, you'd have to pay me to watch the stuff they recommend.. and it'll cost a lot. And notice that all the shows they say are not good are shows that has gay characters on them... are we really that hated in this world? if yes... well.. i don't care... i'll be the one who'll be having great sex soon.

Interesting that this thread popped up now. The saddest thing is, when you use that link

www.parentstv.org/main/buffy/main.asp

an analysis of "Villains" pops up---which those morons are really kind of right about. (Though of course as they quote BMW torturing Warren, though don't mention that "her light . . . the one person who should be here" is the subject of their previous condemnation of "homosexual undercurrents manifested between Willow and a fellow Wicca practitioner.")

There's always going to people like this. There's no use in getting angry or trying to argue with them. You have the same effect if you beat your head on against a brick wall...Believe me, most "advertisers" look at the amount of disposable income that gay people have and don't give these groups a second look..Money talks, bullshit walks................

What I don't get is how they order their top ten list. Some shows with a yellow over-all light are listed as worse than shows with a red-light for every category.

Just goes with my "these people display no logic what-so-ever" theory.

To be completely honest, I think that their descriptions of "undercurrents" comes from a description of season 4. Yeah, they haven't updated the [i:ba9dcb9dd9] general[/i:ba9dcb9dd9] description of the show since then, though, despite having a recent ep description. FWIW.

GG [i:ba9dcb9dd9] In the background, I hear PBS's "Evolution": they're talking about why humans evolved somewhere in between the (Boo!) male-dominant chimps, and the (Yea!) egalitarian, pansexual bonobos. Go watch bonobos going at it PTC! [/i:ba9dcb9dd9] Out
