I am quoting this

Anyway, I'm also reminded (don't ask me why) of a quote from Major Barbara by GB Shaw. In it, an arms dealer who was born penniless puts his philosophy very simply: "I'd rather be a thief than a begger, just as I'd be a murderer rather than a slave. I don't want to be either but if you force me I'll take the braver and more moral choice." Part of me was profoundly moved by that speech. Along those lines, I'd rather see gays portrayed as successful criminals that simpering victims.

from the lesbian FAQ thread as that discussion was OT for that thread, but I was too late to reply to a question and it is just too interesting to let go, darn, that and I just have to have the last word.

Was there something about the words "...I don't want to be either but if you force me..." that was somehow unclear?

The words were perfectly clear just as my reply was and there is still nothing moral or brave about chosing to be a murderer or a thief over a slave or a beggar in my eyes, no matter how one may twist those words around, [b:07647bf9b8] Epicurus[/b:07647bf9b8] said it best I feel, simple and very clear:

My point:
No one can force you to be a criminal.
Anyone can force you to defend youself.

Ah and [b:07647bf9b8] Hilarita[/b:07647bf9b8] great post as well, I wish I could be that strong myself.
