And even if someone doesn't have money to spare, there are other things they can do. We'll likely be having an auction- find something you can donate to be auctioned off. Or just spread the word about the charity drive- to friends, family, other boards. It'd be wonderful for every Kitten who wants to to find some way to participate.

Hey everyone.

I think we need to make a final decision on this. I am expecting a call from Mr. Valencia, the Excutive Director of the Trevor Project on Monday. I would love to tell him we are good to go.

It seems to me that everyone is pretty happy with the Trevor Project and it has a lot of good things in it's favor.

We have about 36 hours from right now. I say we use this time to come up with either another charity or put our full backing behind this one.

We should have more information on Monday, Tuesday at the latest.

Thanks all.

Dear kittens,

I will very gladly contribute to this donation with what I can, by credit card. It's a very good idea and I find the Trevor project a worthy cause.
I've read this thread quickly and I didn't find exactly how can I make my donation, I guess this is going to be addressed at the right time, but I fear to miss it 'cos I've not a lot of time to check the board: could someone e-mail me in case?

I'm sorry if this was just made clear and for my poor english.

luv to all kittens.

Ra Da El,

You didn't see it cause it has not been posted yet! ;)

Ok, credit cards.

I was lookinging into upgrading our account to accept credit cards. The trouble is to do this Pay Pal charges a fee per transaction. Now money is tight enough, we don't need to have someone start skimming off of the top as well.

[b:94a2397c9c] So here are instructions on How to pay via Pay Pal.[/b:94a2397c9c]
First you need a Pay Pal account. If you have one, great, if not then follow these directions.

Set up your account. In the referal section (towards the bottom) you need to put [b:94a2397c9c] willow-n-tara@attbi.com[/b:94a2397c9c] that is our account. Then you add your own bank account.

Here is a tip: I have been using Pay Pal for years. I have never had a problem, but use one credit card/bank account for all your online transactions. That way it is easier to tell if something is amiss.

Now once you have your own bank account added, make a transfer from your bank to your pay pal account. Make for the amount you wish to send us.

Then transfer the money from your account to ours.

There is unfortunetly no quick way to do a credit card payment. Unless you transfer the money from your credit card to your bank. But, that is not the best way cause you just have to pay that back anyway.

IF there is enough people that are interested in credit card payments then we could change it over near the end, BUT, I would need to know exactly who and how many want to do this.

I'm so glad to hear that the Trevor Project Donation seems to be a go.

If any one at the board needs organizational help with these efforts don't hesitate to drop me a line.

yeah Trevor Project nearly seems ago. I have the PO Box set up.. so i will soon be able to put that info out there, just making sure I know who you guys should make the check/money order out to.

I did a little research, about credit cards, I was looking at places online that sell money orders. You could buy one with your credit card then send it out to the P.O. Box.

[b:fcc126b5ea] Xita[/b:fcc126b5ea], any idea which option is gonna be better for overseas donations?

I want to make sure the fund gets as much of what I donate as possible, so I'm easy whichever way :)

Not having read the entire thread, but loving the idea. If one were to donate via check, where would the check go and made out to whom? The Trevor Foundation?

And here is some of that info!
I just got an email from Jorge Valencia, the Executive Director of the Trevor Project.

Here is what he sent to me.

[quote:86a2e550d1][b:86a2e550d1][i:86a2e550d1]Quote:[/i:86a2e550d1][/b:86a2e550d1]
[b:86a2e550d1] The Trevor Project Beginnings[/b:86a2e550d1]
The Trevor Project is a nonprofit endeavor created by the makers of the Academy Award-winning short film Trevor to promote tolerance for gay and questioning youth, and to aid in suicide prevention among that group. Statistics have shown that gay teens are three times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers, and The Trevor Project hopes, through its efforts, to prevent some of those tragedies from occurring.

The Academy Award-winning short film Trevor, a funny and touching look at one 13-year-old boy's struggle to come to terms with his sexuality, is the cornerstone of The Trevor Project.

On August 11, 1998, The Trevor Project launched The Trevor Helpline, the first round-the-clock national toll-free suicide hotline for gay and questioning youth. It's open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Teens with nowhere to turn can call (800) 850-8078, where they can talk to trained counselors, find local resources and take important steps on their way to becoming healthy adults. All calls are free and confidential.

The film Trevor is for anybody who feels they're
not part of the majority or a group that is powerful.
I hope kids out there see that they're not alone in their
feelings -- that there's somebody else out there who
has been through exactly what they're going through.
The message is: there is hope and there is help.
Don't give up.
- Ellen DeGeneres

In August 1998, HBO began presenting the Oscar-winning short film in a special program hosted by Ellen DeGeneres.

The Trevor Project is a nonprofit endeavor established to promote tolerance for gay and questioning teenagers, and to aid in suicide pre-
vention among that group.

        Organization Bio

The Trevor Project established The Trevor Helpline, the countrys first round-the-clock toll-free suicide prevention helpline aimed at gay and questioning teens. To complement The Trevor Helpline, The Trevor Project launched a Web site on the worldwide web www.thetrevorproject.org where resource information on suicide prevention, supportive gay and lesbian organizations, publications and other Web sites can be accessed.

As discussed over the telephone, we want to make your efforts worthwhile. Therefore, we would list you as a donor (under the appropriate $ level) in our Los Angeles benefit program book and new website (to be re-launched in Oct.). Furthermore, upon receipt of the donation we would send a press release to select media outlets announcing your gift.

Please know how grateful we are to you and for the long-term effects your contribution will make in those whom we are here to serve.

[/quote:86a2e550d1]

So. I am thinking we are all good here. Xita is going to send Mr. Valencia the good news and we can start!

I plan to give him a follow-up phone call or email and I will get the date of that press conference they are having. We talked about how great it be for both of us.

Slipping into PBS-mode here: We need that money to come in! The more we raise the greater the impact we can have not only on this organization, but the kids they help.

I don't know what it is like to grow up gay. I never will. But I have worked suicide hotlines, I know what the Trevor Project volunteers must hear everyday. Let's make this work.

I know. I am very happy! :D

Xita will be posting something soon. She has the PO Box. She will post that and the Pay Pal account for donations.

Since it is decided to go with Trevor, Mr. Valencia said checks made out to "The Trevor Project" are fine.

You know, for all the pain and frustration we've been through us doing this makes me ever so proud. It's a way of giving something to the youths we have been defending. A way of making a statement and helping people. It's just beyond cool. I can't wait to write out my check.

I'm really proud of this, too! I'm very excited to donate and to get others to donate (starting with my sister who has recently expressed an interest in gay issues...finally). This is awesome.

Great work, Xita and Tim!
