It's Costume Party Monday, MKF! 10/21/02

Postby Italiangirl » Sun Oct 20, 2002 6:55 pm

(the time, I know, but where I live it's currently 12:54 AM, thus legal to start a daily thread!)

So, here in the US Halloween is upon us, and I find myself invited to a number of costume parties, faced with the question, age old, of What To Wear?

Any fun grown up costume suggestions would be appreciated here...I usually go with something literary or cinematic. I've been Puck, Ophelia (post drowning), Buster Keaton, Joan Crawford (complete with wire hanger...just horrifying enough to be total camp, I know), Mae West, Bonnie (to my gf's Clyde), and Audry Hepburn ala My Fair Lady & Eliza Doolittle.

As for Willow and Tara, I pose this question to the kitten board: They are getting ready for a Halloweeny costume party, how do they dress?

Personally, I think Willow would go as a 1920s mobster...pen striped suit, fedora, wing tips, suspenders, watch on a chain, violin case... while Tara could go as her sultry and scantily clad speak-easy flapper/singer, with a little silk neglige number, a feather boa, a little sparkly headband with a feather, PLENTY of heavy black eye makeup, fishnet stockings, and a long cigarette holder. RRRRRRoooooowwwwwwlllllll!

Anyone else?

Is it even Monday??? I've been up all night and I'm not entirely sure what my name is never mind the day... :confused

Anyhoo, I'm not a big celebrater (is that even a word) of Halloween these days but in the past I have dressed up as a dragon, the back end of a cow, a jellyfish, a schoolgirl, Ivanova from Babylon 5, a chess piece (knight), a mermaid, and Buttons (from Cinderella)... :sh

[b:472a159279] Italiangirl[/b:472a159279] I'd swap your costumes for Willow and Tara around. Somehow I see Tara as the mobster and Willow as her scantily-clad whatsit. :shy

Since I'm a proud Scottish lass for some strange reason I'd like to see Willow and/or Tara in a kilt... >:

But the main thing is, it was my birthday on Saturday there, and I got a crazy woollen hat from my dad (which Willow would probably snatch from my head... ;) ) so, I'm already wearing my costume. :lol

PS. I attribute the weirdness of this post to lack of sleep. :yawn

The best costume I ever had was at a Con back in '92. My brother and I dressed up in black suits, black shoes, white shirts, black ties, black hats, Ray-bans and buttons that said "We're on a mission from God". Then we painted our faces and hands bright, bright blue. Yes, we were the quite literal "Blues Brothers".

For :willow and :tara :

Willow would dress up as VampWillow, corset, leather pants, spike heels and all.

Tara would dress up as Janet from [i:c9ab080357] The Rocky Horror Picture Show[/i:c9ab080357], white bra, half-slip and heels. Then she would sing [i:c9ab080357] Toucha-Toucha Touch Me[/i:c9ab080357] to Willow, with particular emphasis on the [i:c9ab080357] touch me[/i:c9ab080357] and [i:c9ab080357] creature of the night[/i:c9ab080357] parts.

Tommo in her smuttiest mood would take over from here.

I am probably the most unoriginal halloween-e here. My costumes mainly consist of a white sheet with two holes cut in them for eyes - and occasionally a tacky mask. XD

I don't usually spent a lot of money on Halloween. I think this year I might go as - myself! Enough to scare anybody ;)

Oh this year I've decided to go as the "Yellow Broken Fan"

Just gonna put on my yellow sweats and paint my face yellow. I scribbled "bite me Harris" on the back.

What do you think? Well it works for me.

This year W/T I'm thinking kevlar.

As soon as I read this thread, a fic came to mind... It's not finished and it's [b:70edea8f52] R / R+ rated[/b:70edea8f52] but I think the girls' costumes are... appropriate. Go and read Recycled Series by Sassette and you'll know what I mean! :wink

:lol Saule77, I had the exact same thought....

Oh, Italian Girl, I've spent much time thinking about Willow and Tara in costumes, as readers of my fic will know. I've gone from Britney Spears to [i:6674a39c0d] The Cat in the Hat[/i:6674a39c0d] and [i:6674a39c0d] The Little Mermaid[/i:6674a39c0d]. :drool

Oh, this has me thinking. I'm not much of a dresser-up myself. I usually celebrate Halloween by buying a bunch of candy for the kids and then, when Halloween comes around, turning off the lights and going out somewhere and then eating the candy myself later.

As for Willow and Tara, is it wrong of me to want to see them dress up as...witches? You know, with the black hats and everything? Probably. Sigh. But just the one time.

I've gone as a variety of things, from Captain Hook to Death to (a fave) a vampire. Plus a bellydancer (but since I am one I'm not sure that counts as a costume...oh well).

Willow and Tara in costumes...

Oh my.

The possibilities! How about dressing up as Kittens? You know, a la the musical [i:0cca77369e]Cats[/i:0cca77369e]?

If I was ever to agree to attend a Hallowe'en costume party, I'd have to go as a Civil Servant. They're a scary bunch! Plus, I can't see myself donning a costume! [img:67b9a8c2cb]http://homepage.eircom.net/~mollyig/winkgreen.gif[/img:67b9a8c2cb]

I liked Willow as Joan of Arc. Tara I'd like to see as Tinkerbell! [img:67b9a8c2cb]http://homepage.eircom.net/~mollyig/revolve.gif[/img:67b9a8c2cb]

italiangirl, you just soooo tooo made my day. it's just beceom all about the pinstripes lately. totally.
i was jean valjean for halloween once. at an actual costume party too, which was great, cuz the porblem with costume parties is that most funky sorts of costumes eventually, you totally dont wanna be wearing, but i was essentially in all cotton. good times.
but all in all i havnt had good costumes. and i dont think i'll be going to any spiel this year, but who knows....i have no good ideas, though i get the impression tara would always come up with fabulous ideas that no one else would come up with, but just shouldve. supergood ideas.
oh well i'm unclever. if i come up with a good example i'll be back.
peace.

I am not one for costumes. I have in the past and have not enjoyed. Unfortunately in teaching, kids want you to dress up all the time, yuck.

Also need to make an annoucement, the Got Tara t-shirts are now offline. It was a limited time offer and its time is now up. If you want to make it on your own here are the graphics we used. You can download them and take them to a place that makes t-shirts.

Dressing up, bleh. Waste of time. I once went as a witch to a fancy dress party when I was about 15. I have also been known to dress up as a cowgirl. But that's...uh...private. Ahem.

We've had another earthquake in Manchester this time. Three, in fact. Noticeably, I live in the country so I didn't feel them but buildings were put on alert and others were evacuated in the city centre. How exciting.

It seems only right that Manchester should tremble in the wake of my newfound wrath last night, anyway. Yes, yes, I'm on the warpath again. Sigh. Well a girl has to have a hobby, doesn't she. So watch and tremble, ye Kittens. Heh. I'm like, Ozymandias. Just without the broken and lying in the sand part. You know who you are though. Heh. Fun, fun, fun.

I love Halloween. I think I might have a party this year. But probably not because my place is just too damn small! :( But there are some other parties on various nights, and I'm just going to wear my hanbok (Korean traditional dress) since Halloween is pretty much the only opportunity I'll get to wear it!!

Maybe Willow would dress up as a bunny to terrorize Anya.

I just like to dress up as a lesbian and terrorize people in nice, middle-class, right-wing, moral majority households. I cant think of anything more frightening than that. Be afraidbe VERY afraid!

Actually, I do have a party to go to on Saturday, so I guess Id better start thinking about a costume. Ill probably just go as an executioner; its been a while since Ive worn that outfit. Its easy to put together and no one will recognize me under the black hood as long as I dont say anything.

As for Willow and Tara, I can see Willow wearing her Joan of Arc costume again, while Tara might be a gypsy fortuneteller.

One year I went to a party with my ex g/f and I dressed as a box of Corn Flakes. I had blood splattered on the box and I carried an axe with some blood on it. In case you can't figure it out, I was a "cereal" killer. I won for most origninal. Ten years ago when I was still married, my ex husband used to be one of those jerks who paint the lines on roads. You know, the guys who screw up traffic usually during rush hour. Well, I work for a Veterinarian and one of the girls I worked with asked my ex what happens if they came across a dead animal in the road and he explained that he just painted right over it. So to make a statement to him, I dressed up as a raccoon with blood and a big yellow line going down the middle of my back. I was road kill. When I started taking my kids out on Halloween, I toned it down and started dressing less scarey. I usually tried to match what the kids were. For example, one year my daughter was Pebbles Flintstone, my son was BamBam Rubble and I was Dino.
I haven't dressed up in a few years though. Maybe I will this year, who knows.

Love to All,
Barb

When I was little I wore those awful plastic painting smock costumes with with the plastic masks, with eye holes that never lined up and and elastic to hold it on. Strawberry Short Cake was one of them.

We've never had alot of money, so I use what ever I have around the house. I always have big plans to creat something neat, but always end up throwing something on at the last minute.

Mostly I get my little brother ready for Halloween

Well for the forth year in a row I shall be dressing up as a PE Teacher for my friend's Halloween party. The main reason I do it is to wind her up, but sometimes the whistle & hockey stick come in handy.

Not so long ago I allowed one of my friends to pick a costume for me for a hen party, never again. The theme was the 80's & ended up looking like a prostitute when I was meant to be Cyndi Lauper :lol

I always thought Willow looked cute as Joan of Arch & Tara, I think she'd make a very fetching Belly dancer. mmm Amber tummy!

I love dressing up for Halloween. It never gets old. I've been so many things. I was Joan of Ark one year, Sylvester another, a nurse once, a bunny, but my most favorite costume is my Renessance garb. That's what I'll be dressing up as this year as well.

Willow and Tara would look great in Renessance garb as well. Nice tight corsets, cleavage showing...hot...very hot...

oh, hee....

i like costumes and costume parties, but it isn't fun unless everyone really goes for it, yannow? so my energy threshold for dressing up involves overcoming collective inertia, if you know what i mean. :grin

my favorite costume is from a halloween party i went to a few years back; everyone was very creative, so it was much fun. a friend of mine went as a "one night stand": he put his head thru a hole he cut in the top of a big cardboard box, and then glued things to the top of it like crumpled beer cans, an ashtary with glued-in cigarette butts, pantyhose, and broken lipstick....a one "nightstand", geddit? ;)

i myself attended the party as a blond bondgirl assassin-type, in dark sunglasses and long black trenchcoat with a cocktail dress and fishnets underneath. and see, this is amusing, because....[b:74cc539f24] [i:74cc539f24] i'm not white[/i:74cc539f24][/b:74cc539f24]...but with the combo of the blonde wig and sunglasses, no one could figure out who the hell i was at first. :cool

and on a last note:

Way to go, Anaheim Angels!!!

Have a great day, everyone!

How weird, Italiangirl - my friend (though not in the 'special friend' kind of way) and I are going as Bonnie and Clyde this year. But, after much debate, I won the honored role of our beloved Clyde. Yay! With any luck and a little borrowing it should be a blast.

Other things that came up for costumes included everything from Dick Tracy, to Guenaviere (sp? I'm too lazy to look it up right now) and Lancelot, to George of the Jungle and Jane (though that one was quickly discarded for many reasons - not the least of which was we have [i:c4b1360071] very[/i:c4b1360071] cold and typically rainy Halloweens down here.)

Hmmm... I could almost see Will and Tara going as animals of some kind. Kitties maybe?

The one time I did wear fancy dress - I went as a nun. It was a big hit. The irony is that it suited me (and I wouldn't have to change my life one bit if I was one - except maybe the whole poverty thing - need my comforts).

I don't think Willow and Tara would be much for the dressing up in public. I think its more a private thing for them. Ahem..

well you offered the gals as gangster and moll, and personally I also think tara would be the gangster and willow the flapper moll. :bounce But hell i also think Amber could go as the venus rising up outta the sea .. and she could forget the huge seashell for all I care.. :drool

I went as Joan of Arc: Maid of Orleans two years ago. And last year, I was working for the Intermediate School, and the kids insisted I wear my velvet cape and even though I was playing the headless horseman (with head attached at work-4th graders are notoriously mischevious.) they insisted I was a Harry Potter person.

I dont know.. this year I got NO clue. I thought maybe I should be yosemite sam, guns and all. But well mostly I would be lady godiva if i had the body...

well, we don't really do the big halloween thing here - but my previous team leader had a thing about dressing up, so every few weeks he'd to pick a theme, and we'd come to work dressed up and decorate our area. So, over the past year, I've dressed in the kinda 1920's/1930's outfit, an MIB theme - all wearing black suits, ties and sunglasses and, one of the most entertaining - Bob the Builder!

I reckon that Tara and Willow would look kinda cute all dressed up like Bob the Builder....
