It's all the cute women have boyfriends Friday, MKF 10/4/02

Postby La » Thu Oct 03, 2002 6:13 pm

I haven't started a daily thread in a bazillion years, so I thought I would!

It seems like, ever since I've started classes, I'll be chatting with a really cute woman and we'll be getting along really well and I'll be thinking that maybe, just maybe, something could actually come of this, and then she mentions her boyfriend. Or I see her later with her boyfriend. Or she mentions her husband. Then today there was a really cute woman in my intro to the new testament discussion section and we even chatted a little after class and then we both had to go and she said "see you next week" except that I had earlier switched out of that section into one with less people in it. :(

So, on to the W/T question of the day. Which has nothing to do with dating, since we know that they'll stay together for ever and ever. Who do you think is more likely to chop all her hair off? (I want to get my hair cut, it's long for the first time since high school (i cut it real short first year of college), which makes me feel really strange in some way, all young and high schooly).

I know it's a little bit of a lame question, feel free to add a new one!! :p

Edited because - Look! I'm a vixen!! Now maybe some of those women with boyfriends will realize that I'm much better :wink

Hey, [b:6aa04606c3] La[/b:6aa04606c3].

Wow, not one, but [i:6aa04606c3] two[/i:6aa04606c3] really profound questions: 1) the [b:6aa04606c3] Deconstruction of Desire[/b:6aa04606c3] (Yeah, Sweetie, your boyfriend has six inches of something I don't---not inherently anyway!---and this matters exactly why?) and 2) the Eternal Infamous [b:6aa04606c3] Dyke Hair Debate![/b:6aa04606c3] (Is there such thing as a "dyke haircut"? Can I trade it in for a toaster oven?)

Have you seen the latest [i:6aa04606c3] People[/i:6aa04606c3]? W/ Rosie on the cover? I think it's interesting that the writers are making a Big To-Do over her haircut. You just [i:6aa04606c3] know[/i:6aa04606c3] they wanted to write "dyke hair!" but their editors thought it was a [i:6aa04606c3] a bit much[/i:6aa04606c3] and so settled for "skater punk" :lol

Cheers to you, [b:6aa04606c3] La[/b:6aa04606c3], for wading into murky waters w/ these issues. As you can maybe tell, I could have a [i:6aa04606c3] ton[/i:6aa04606c3] to say about either of them---fortunately for you all, it's after 2AM now, so I won't!

GG [i:6aa04606c3] Ever watch "Berman & Berman: For Women Only" on the Discovery Health Channel? Their topic last night was "What Things are You Looking For in the 'Perfect Man'?" No, I didn't throw anything at my TV, but it was hard, I tell you! And don't get me going on any of the so-called "Women's Networks" like Lifetime or Oxygen---they're for All Women except the Women-Loving kind, apparently . . . [/i:6aa04606c3] :mad Out

Oh, La. When I was single, I had the unfortunate habit of falling for straight women. Straight women who were flirting with me. Sigh.

I think I'll avoid the hair question, because I'm concerned about stereotyping. Personally, I haven't had truly short hair since second grade, because I think I look better with longer hair. But, when I'm working on my cars, I tend to stuff my hair under a baseball cap for safety reasons. There's something about death by being sucked hair-first into the drive belt that just doesn't appeal.

Oh, its not just all cute girls have a boyfriend for me. Its more like all cute girls who initially seemed to like me really have eyes for my best friend and he will eventually shag them with every inch of his heterosexuality. Bugger.

As for the hair I think Tara would be the one to chop it all off. :grin . Yeah, throw jagged-edged things at me, I care not! My hair is so short I havent needed to brush it in over six months so I just want one of the girls on my team! Hehe. No, seriously, I think Taras much more the person and I have two reasons: The first is, well, couldnt you [i:58131dc1c0] totally[/i:58131dc1c0] see Tara in some tiny little isolated temple on the top of some green and misty mountain in Tibet, taking a year off the hectic pace of life to do Yoga and meditation and cutting her hair all [i:58131dc1c0] Tibetan monk-style[/i:58131dc1c0]?

Second reason is Im probably the only person alive who thinks one inch of hair is a [i:58131dc1c0] motherly[/i:58131dc1c0] cut. But thats just me and the crocked way I was raised. :grin And Tara Taras definitely all motherly. Yep except, of course, that its in the sense of being someone [b:58131dc1c0] elses[/b:58131dc1c0] mom, so its still alright for me to desire her with a fiery passion. Ahem.

But, umm just picture this with a short cut Taraears :) Nuff said.

Hmm,
I think W should cut her hair short! U no the style, that ruffled elfin/peter-pan look - I'm a sucker for that. It'd suit her too.
I think I like T's hair long, or up and twisty, like in Tabula Rasa.

Personally, I have a mohican! So I say, go Girl! Chop it all off - better still, get it dreadlocked/braided for a bit, then chop it off. I've just quit my job, so I'm thinking of dying my mohican electric blue.

As for "All the cute women have boyfriends" - I sympathise, haven't we all been there? As a teenager, I fell into that fancying straight friends trap - even if it goes somewhere, it's always more stress than it's worth.

The only snippet of mysticism I have to dispense, is this (feel free to ignore the following blatantly obvious statement) - enjoy it for what it is.
Everyone likes to flirt, but you have to remember that it's SAFE for a straight woman to flirt with a lesbian - so enjoy it, but don't fool yourself that it's anything more.

"all the cute women have boyfriends" - does this mean I'm not cute, since I don't have a boyfriend? my self-esteem is shattered. :cry

ummm, I can't really weigh in on being attracted to someone who has a boyfriend .... ooh, unless we can count falling for a guy who turns out to be gay. Which hasn't happened to me yet, but given my luck, it can't be that far off.

I really liked Willow's short curly 'do during S5, although that's not what you meant by "short", is it? Well, at any rate, I think Will would look better with a pixie cut. Tara seems a bit too earth-mothery for that style. Plus, that whole "hiding behind her hair" thing that she does in Season 4 is just so damn [i:688afc461b] cute[/i:688afc461b]!

I know this doesn't fit the subject but just wanted to share. Just got tickets to the Angels playoff game with the Yankees on Saturday. WOO HOO. Going with a male co-worker but maybe there will be some cute, single woman at the game I can look at in between innings, maybe in the beer line :laugh

Sparrow, I too will be doing the ball game thing on Saturday, but at good ole' Pac Bell Park. But I just wanted to say, tell your boys to get their act together, I do not want that series going to a 5th game.

If they go 5, the Giants are a 1pm start on Sunday and then I have to unload two tickets for the Rams Niners game on Sunday.

I will do my best, shaking my beers at them to hopefully motivate them to win the series on Saturday. Don't know if they will be able to see me from my seat in the lower atmoshere of the upper deck, but they will hear me. That reminds me, gotta buy a new Angels hat.

La, it sure is difficult to fall for a girl with a boyfriend. Especially if said girl not only 'flirts' with you, but follows you everywhere, phones you at least three times a day, looks at you as though you're the last candy in the box, etc., goes to your house, hugs you, kisses you and, then, just at the point where you lose all your fears (because you know it's a very complicated situation), gathers the strength to end a failing relationship to be with someone you're really in love with, she says she's changed her mind. Gosh, it's mind-numbing. No regrets about the previous relationship, we're better now. But, still...

Ok, hair. Only, bad subject. Bad hair day, week, year. Well, it's a young century. Willow and Tara would look good, anyway. But I like Tara's hair in S4, too. She's adorable. Short hair compliments Will, but don't we all think that Willow was cute in S1? I do.

Just edit to say that that love story is carbon-dated and that I should be over it by now. Only, I'm not. Pathetic much?

Sparrow, I met my girlfriend at an Angels game. (In my case, it was a fix-up, rather than a fateful meeting in a beer line. )

May you also get lucky at the Big A.

ooohhh, raw subject with me... if someone, anyone, is in a relationship with someone else, they should [b:44ca7e3e8d] not[/b:44ca7e3e8d] flirt or suggest something, or say anything inapproprate, to someone who is not their partner. not good. not nice. not fair. not kosher. at. all. I've about reached the point where the ones who don't play the "game" by the rules should lose all rights, privileges &, occasionally, should have strategic body parts removed. This goes for all genders & persuasions. GGGRRRRRRR.

**putting smiling face back on**

La, I've had really long hair & I've had short hair. Really long hair is difficult to care for, but feels fantastic. Short hair is easiest, fastest & you don't have to worry about it as much, unless you want to. IMHO... with a busy schedule... I'd go with short.

Sorry Skittles!
I can see your point about the flirting thing.
I do think its unfair to give out confusing/dishonest signals, especially if you're already spoken for.

see, when i flirt with girls with boyfriends, i end up seducing them, and then they ditch me and go back to the boyfriends (even after admitting i'm better! uh, interpret that statement in a sweet and tame way) so, i suppose mine is a different sort of problem.....
i think willow would go short. i like tara with the long flowey makes-Me-think-of-gaia-for-no-good-reason hair.
on that subject meanwhile, i [i:1efde9ec66] had[/i:1efde9ec66] that pixie dyke hair, and am since growing it out, and unfortunately at the moment it's kinda like that twerpy kid in [i:1efde9ec66] Nightmares[/i:1efde9ec66]. but luckily it's rainy scottish weather today so it's all curly and not quite so hat requiring. and the intent is actually for it to grow out so i can cut it all willow S4-ish. yay!
peace out.

Well, I still don't know what to do with my hair. I've had it short and long. I kind of like it long because you can put it up and do fun things with it, but I tend to pretty much just put it up in a ponytail, or in one of those funny half-not-pulled-all-the-way-through things. I'm very tempted to just shave it all off again. Or cut it very very very very very short. Then again, I'm also thinking that it might be fun to do a chin-length layered thing. Eh, I'll probably keep it long until I go back to my parents' for Christmas when I can get the hairdresser who's been cutting my hair since I was 7 to do it. Then again, maybe I won't. :grin

As for the flirting thing. I met someone named Tara tonight in my half-hour dinner break from work (i work the circulation desk at the theological library) when I went to "ralph's pub" for a cheap beer who I know is gay. And she and a couple other div students may come over to my place tonight for movie night :) See, it's because I'm a "vixen" now. :wink

I've been in a relationship with a straight woman but, since it ended horribly painful I swore off straight girls. We're friends now but, it took along time.
I've had short hair, but only when I was running track in high school for easy maintenance. Now I have dreadlocks that are mid-back. My girlfriend once cut her extra short now its a little below midback. I don't intend to cut my hair and I asked very nicely for her to not cut hers.

Hey everyone, it's been a while since I posted. I went into lurkdom after the shocking last season. But I want to be more involved now...
As for the question, straight girls. Yep, I've been there. I've actually got a crush on one at the moment. So tell me, is it ever worth pursuing or should I move far, far away right now? lol.

Missspangles,
ooh, that's a toughy. I can only speak from personal experience, really.
A lot of my 1st girlfriends where straight, mainly cos I was non-scene, and they were who I fell for, and as I'm a bit of a romantic, I kind of followed my heart.
But while there's a lot of (mostly repressed!) pleasure to be had, there's a lot of heartache too.
I guess u gotta go in with u eyes open, and let them set the pace, as it's them going through a lot of emotional turmoil.
I have to say, though, my girlfriend now was out when we met, and I've never bin happier. a lot less angst than previously.

As for the girls with boyfriends thing, I haven't really had an issue with that. But the hair - now that is an issue i can get into! I absolutely hate short hair on myself or my girlfriends. For the most part that is. I mean, some girls can pull it off well, but not most. I wouldn't want to see either tara or willow with short hair. Willow does look great with it, but I like it better long. To me, long hair is just lovely and that's usually one of the first things I notice in a girl.
