Today I start my second job, working at a Magick shop 2 days a week. If anyone is interested in that sort of thing, the sight is www.kamala.com it has a variety of herbs and such.

Anyways along those notes, I was wondering what other kittens do for a living. I know some are computer techs and run comic shops, but what bout the rest of you folks?

Or if you don't want to answer that one, how bout a question about Willow and Tara's dating life. We saw them cast spells together and such, but what did they do the rest of the time?
( aside from sex people! ) did they watch movies? go out to eat? walks in the park?

Hey, also some of us live on the west coast and guess what, it's not even monday yet. Not every daily thread needs to be posted the moment it turns that day in your time zone, fyi everybody.

Just a friendly reminder from us west coast folks that have pretty much been eliminated from posting any daily threads for the past month. :)

I've been job hunting since god knows when... I'm already treating interviews as a job where I have to spend all my money.

Funniest experiance in finding a job??? Definitely 4 times where I was highly recommended and the companies call me up for an interview... just to look at my work... they didn't have ANY positions and weren't even hiring. I'm probably well known as the "keep-in-view" girl. :spin

Worst is definitely one where the person who interviewed me told me that my qualifications are useless. My portfolio as impressive as it is... is useless:mad . Irony? I was interviewing for a Graphic Design position with a BA (multimedia) which is part graphic design. Then she booted me out and didn't even respond to me holding out my hand to thank her for the (ultimately RUDE :puke ) interview. She just looked up and asked me why was I still standing in her office. :rage

This is what the [b:857ca4bcb9] Kitten FAQ[/b:857ca4bcb9] has to say about the daily thread:
[quote:857ca4bcb9][b:857ca4bcb9][i:857ca4bcb9]Quote:[/i:857ca4bcb9][/b:857ca4bcb9]

Sure! We have a daily thread where OT is welcomed. The thread will either be named Good Morning Miss Kitty Fantastico or Sophomore Level Psychology (they will vary depending on the day of the week, i.e. Happy Friday Miss Kitty Fantastico). This thread is there for us to say hi to each other and to post any OT you want. Anyone can make this morning post. Don't be afraid to do so, just make sure to label it properly and include the day of the week. Feel free to post the thread whenever it is that day in your time zone. But do not post the daily thread more than once a week so that other people get a chance to do so. You may post twice in a week if there is no daily thread by 2pm Pacific Time.
Also OT threads need to be labeled as such.
[/quote:857ca4bcb9]

Also consider if you've been posting it a lot ( like once a week)other people don't get a chance to. But those are the rules and as long as you aren't breaking those, I am not going to get on your case.

Personally I've never watched the show, but I know it has some fans here so I thought I would pass this along. This information is completely legit, and unlike some sources you can trust me to give accurate info. Feel free to pass it on.

This is from 'someone' [b:5ae9660dbd] very[/b:5ae9660dbd] high up on the show trying to find [i:5ae9660dbd] Farscape[/i:5ae9660dbd] a new home from a personal friend of mine that knows that 'someone':

"<The cause of the cancellation> was a change of regimes at the <Sci-Fi> network, the new guys don't get the show, and don't like it.

<however>
UPN is looking for a companion to Enterprise, TNT has expressed some initial interest in the show, and a flood of fan passion aimed at them might help them see the merits of bringing over an award-winning series with a built-in audience. And Showtime is obviously very good about putting on sf television

Please pass it on to fans that they should express their passion (write/fax/etc) about the series to Sci-Fi Channel, but also to UPN, TNT, and Showtime."

[/quote:9eecb37842]

I did an audition for Principal Flute of a certain regional orchestra that shall remain nameless. I lost in the final round to an ex-boyfriend from college. His ex-ness and I had not parted amicably, so I'm sure that getting the job more than made his day. Probably his whole year.

I can laugh about it now, though. And it worked out for the best. I would not have liked living in that part of the country, especially after figuring out that every boyfriend was destined to be an ex-boyfriend. :wink And I ultimately realized that I didn't want an orchestral career anyway.

But, still, it was kind of an unpleasant experience.

Ugh!!! I hate trying to find a job.!! It's super hard when you've not had any experience. Cuz, you know.....most people, when hiring someone, they like them to have at least...some experience. Otherwise, they won't hire you.:rolleyes So, I'd have to say my WORST experience finding a job......is the actual 'finding'. Grrrrrr :mad

arghh..I'm actually avoiding writing a dreaded job application letter right now. I'm in the midst of job hunting right now as well. Although I'd probably be more enthusiastic if I really wanted a job!
but, my "worst" interview experience so far, was kinda a good/bad thing. I got right down to the last two - even though I didn't remotely have the required experience...about 10 minutes into the [b:7cae0ea8f2] third[/b:7cae0ea8f2] interview, the manager basically said "you would be great, but aren't old enough/not enough experience, so I can tell you now, you won't get the job". then said some nice things. I didn't know whether to feel disappointed or relieved.

Umm, this isn't exactly funny but just goes to show what a dork I am. During a job interview once an interviewer asked me a question, I can't remember what it was, and I ended up talking about FRG/GDR politics during the 1949-1990 period. This job had absolutely NOTHING to do with German politics and they had no idea what I was going on about. :blush

What can I say, when I get nervous I babble. Fortunately I didn't want that job and was only using it for interview experience. What was learned from this experience? That I should go to the library and get a book on interview technique.

My best bad interview story isn't mine but a friend I went to University with. She applied for a load of jobs via on-line application forms while we were studying for our finals. During one of the interivews she was asked,
"What made you apply for this particular position and what qualities can you bring to this position?"

At which point she had to ask what the job she was applying for was as she'd applied for so many and had forgotten. Despite this she still got offered the job. And turned them down.

Ah...jobs. I may have to plunge into the foray of getting a job soon, I think. I recently applied for a job and the guy who was hiring wrote back to me and said "You've got such a nice personality; it sounds like you're the kind of person I want in my office."

Right.

Clearly he doesn't know me [b:dea54c1ff1] too[/b:dea54c1ff1] well then. ;)

Jobs, jobs...

At my last job interview, the capstone question the interviewer asked me was: "Tell me something about your humanity."
I stammed out something about having pets, I think.

Anyway, my job-related statement of the day is this. I have actually called in sick so that I can stay home and write fan fiction all day.

I have a feeling I am not the only Kitten to have done this.

Have a good day all.

That's so naughty. I know that I've [b:9bb365ffe6] never[/b:9bb365ffe6] had time off work when I've had visitors/friends/better things to do...

Heh.

Actually, speaking of humanity, I remember once at a teaching interview in a Catholic school they asked me if I could recite the "Hail Mary". To which I answered "HUH?".

I mean, I can. It was just so bloody odd...

Autumn,

Thanks for the information.
Farscape is one of my favorite shows on TV and has never failed to impress me. Unlike some other shows I could mention.

Though I am hesitant to want to have on UPN. After all think of the wonderful things that have happened on Buffy since their move...

Oh I'm so glad I never have to job hunt again. I'm one of those strange people who takes comfort in the fact that I'm in a permanent pensionable job. I hated my last job where I was temporary for 4 years, my contract being extended monthly. Not fun at all.

on the subject of jobs , i really can't wait to get to UNI and away from my summer job - working in a pizza factory. great! i was originally all glamorous and organised working as a barmaid in a really fancy place , getting tips off all the wealthy , older women. (yes i have no shame , but hell it was fun!) however , there wasn't enough work to keep me in beer and clothes for the next term , so i had to go into the goddamn frozen pizza business.

the food may be italian , but there ain't nothing nigella lawson about it.

I have sort of a funny story. It wasn't funny at the moment but it is now. A few months ago, my friends and I had a big party where i consumed much alchohol and then earlier in the morning much much coffee. I showered and went to talk to the manager at bath & body works about a job opening, we were getting along pretty well and then all of the sudden.... I just kind of threw up right in front of her. Needless to say, I didn't get the job.

I was interviewing for a slot in the police academy. I was about to graduate with a degree in Police Science and Law Studies. I had meticulously penned the application attaching the FBI and County Sheriff volunteer/internship documentation.
I was second in my class the Top female. I had earned many honors for working with local youth and spent my summers working in private security situations. I presented glowing recommendations from every organization I'd ever worked for as well as the staff from the college. I'd wanted to be in Law enforcement since I was a kid.

So I walk in to the interview dressed in the appropriate attire. Military blue looking as impressive as I could in my all of 5'2" glory.

I shook the five hands in front of me and they kept looking at my application and looking back up at me. I was thrown by it all and I was immediatley frightened. I had been through hostage negotiation training, High speed pursuit driving, I'd been jumped and thrown to the ground 100's of times during self defense training I'd had firearms aimed at me and was able to disarm the attacker but looking at this table of 5 men I knew they held my future in their hands.

I choked. LARGE!

I knew all the answers I should have given. I'd tested in mock interviews for the freshman students in the same field. I had been one of the five in mock panels. But still I choked. I was a complete fumbling idiot. I could barely speak. I wish I could review those tapes. LOL

But somehow through it all I got an Academy slot. Yay me!

And after all of that torture. I decided to turn it down.

Just a little sidenote. The same thing happened to me when I met Amber in the Lobby during the Toronto convention this past summer. I was completely speechless. good thing I had a friend with me to do all the talking.

I'm currently considering getting a new job, if I stay at where I work much longer I'll run out of foods I can eat whilst being blissfully unaware of what nasty little bugs are lurking in them.

Plus I am starting to become the butt monkey of the place, they had me cleaning company vans on friday!

One of my workmates who shares my interest in Btvs even went as far as calling me Xander all bloody afternoon, I was not amused, however I did get an unexplainable urge to eat tortilia chips all afternoon.:lol

Good luck to all kittens looking for jobs

Oy vey.... job hunts... I don't think I have a funniest moment. I do have a lot of worst moments, but I'll spare you from hearing them.

This past week I realized that the pressure of thinking I might have to go back to engineering has been getting to me. So I decided I'm not going back. For the past few days I've been working on a multimedia portfolio of all the writing, photography, etc., that I've done, and once it's finished I'm going to go on the attack, trying to find someplace that will pay me to be a writer. I still want to support myself through my books someday, but that's going to take a while and I don't want to be an engineer again in the meantime.

Meanwhile, my cat Eugenie is still doing fairly well. She's snoozing on my desk as I type this, actually. Her ultimate prognosis hasn't changed, but I think the immediate crisis is over. :)

Have a great day, everybody! :bounce

OH MY GOD the most embarrassing thing just happened to me. I'm sitting here at work, goofing off as usual, reading an online interview with Stephanie Romanov, who plays Lilah Morgan on [i:5bf87a747b] Angel[/i:5bf87a747b]. There's a link to it on Slayage. (Yes, I still check Slayage every day even though they're biased, please don't hate me!) Anyway, for some reason, right in the middle of the page there's a nudie picture of Stephanie. Not the kind where you can see anything, but still, definitely erotic. Whatever. So I'm reading the article and one of my co-workers stops by my cubicle to tell me about a meeting, and sees what looks like porn on my computer. Now he thinks I'm a total perv. :sigh

And you know, if I had ACTUALLY been looking at porn, it would be different. But I was just reading the article! (no really .... I swear ..... why are you looking at me like that?)

Postby BBOvenGuy » Mon Sep 09, 2002 1:28 pm

Well, I've just scheduled a job interview for 5:00pm Thursday. :grin

This has got to be one of those "irony can be pretty ironic" moments. When I came out here to Los Angeles many years ago, my goal was to become a TV writer. After beating my head against the Hollywood wall for a long long while, I decided they didn't want me and I didn't want them. So now here I am, looking for a source of income that will allow me to keep writing my books. And what kind of job am I interviewing for? A TV writer! :shock

It's obviously not a Writer's Guild affiliated job, because the money isn't good enough and the position was advertised through the CalJobs website. That usually means it's a kids' show, which just happens to be what I do. I don't know anything else about the show yet, so Thursday's going to be very interesting.

Wish me luck! :bounce :bounce :bounce
