It's my friend's wedding friday MKF

Postby urnofosiris » Thu Jul 04, 2002 10:49 pm

Okay, the clever thread title may reveal the fact that one of my friends is getting married. I've known her since I was 8, but we have only been really good friends since the last 17 years or so, and lord does that sound like a long time. Anyway, she asked me a few years ago already to be her best man, well at the time she did not ask me to be her best [i:f6ad735c13] man[/i:f6ad735c13] really, but things change, heh heh. So best man I am, a few hours from now. :grin

Anyway, as for WT, well we've talked about if and how they would get married, and yes they still can, many better alternate realities out there for them to get married in, or just have sex 24 hours of the day. I'll skip the what if and assume they are getting married, my question would be:
"what would they wear?"
We know the horror Anya came up with, but what would they choose for themselves, and what would they put Anya in to get even?

*editing: A far better question, courtesy of Xita: What kind of vows do you think they would give each other?

Answer any or none at all, this is the daily thread, it need not make sense. :p

Have fun at the wedding DrG. [img:b9a805a9ef]http://homepage.eircom.net/~mollyig/uppydown.gif[/img:b9a805a9ef]

I've no idea what kind of arrangements Willow and Tara would make for their wedding to incorporate Tara's wicca beliefs et al.

Am sitting here eating skittles to bide me over until I can escape from my desk to get some real food. Molly be hungry!

*sigh* I love weddings.

Have fun at your friend's wedding, Garfield. The last time I was actually in a wedding, I was the youngest bridesmaid at 15, and 2 years later, the couple broke up.

There's a typhoon in the vicinity here, and it's really really windy, though it's not raining right now. The wind has taken a lot of the heat and humidity away, which is nice. But I'm hoping it doesn't rain tomorrow, since I promised my host sister I'd take her on a picnic. Can't do that so much if it's pouring! We may end up having an indoor picnic. :D [b:5638588f20] edited[/b:5638588f20] to add a little advice: when walking outside in the typhoony winds, don't wear a sarong skirt with no underwear. i don't think the little boys playing video games outside the convenience store expected the little show they got ... oops! :lol

I think Willow and Tara would have their wedding outside, so they could go barefoot and they would wear really beautiful wedding-type dresses, though not necessarily white. It would be a really simple deal with all their friends and they'd have a rabbi and a wiccan priestess officiate over the ceremony.

I'd like to think they'd have more sense than to spend thousands of dollars on the wedding, but that's probably just one of my pet peeves showing.

So I'm thinking something simple and non-religious. There doesn't seem to be a lot of religion in the Scoobie's lives anyway, not to mention the complications of trying to combine a Jewish ceremony with Wiccan traditions and then find a church that will let you do it. Of course, there ARE what, 42 churches in Sunnydale? I suppose one of them might be open-minded enough for that.

BTW, I haven't seen anyone post yet about the fact that seven same-sex couples in NJ have sued for the right to marry, based on the NJ constitution, not the US one. NJ's courts have been largely gay-friendly, so chances are actually decent for a victory.

Corky and I are headed to Vermont for a civil union in three-and-a-half weeks to celebrate our 18th anniversary, but we live in NJ - so maybe we'll be able to have something with serious legal effect for our 20th!

Well, since this is really about our fantasies, I like to imagine Willow in a tux and Tara in something light and flowing, with flowers in her hair.

And personally, I imagine a ceremony that straddles several religious traditions including Judaism and Wicca. I see them jumping over a broom, but with a nice lady rabbi performing the ceremony (complete with canopy and breaking the wine glass).

Revenge on Anya? Well, I don't think either one would want to inflict something horrible on Buffy and Dawn in terms of bridesmaids outfits. Hmmmm. How about having the ceremony on Easter, so that Anya has to leave the apartment even though there are pictures of bunnies as far as the eye can see?

I imagine that Willow and Tara would want to have the wedding outdoors and far away from the hellmouth. Maybe they might do what Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee were rumored to have wanted to do- have the wedding at the beach in the nude.

have fun at your friend's wedding Dr G

Have fun at your friend's wedding, Dr.G!

It's a busy month for my wife and I for this sort of thing. Over the next 3 weekends are a shower and 2 weddings.

Perhaps W/T would have the ceremony in the Summers' back yard - it certainly seems big enough. I imagine that they would write their own vows, speaking mostly of their loving support for one another.

I like everything that ZAHIR AL DAOUD suggested, and it's a must that it's outdoors in nature, surrounded in beautiful blooming flowers and shrubs. I wouldn't want Willow to miss out on wearing a beautiful tux (flower in her lapel) and Tara in a beautiful sheer, off the shoulders, white, with little flowers placed at the bottom and top of her gown, dress (long winded discription, I know and it's not done) with a sheer veil, cute little shoes (something that has a little of a sixties flower child/hippie look, but modern too) They need a tressel over head, also covered in flowers...............I could go on but won't, so I'd have to say nix on the nude wedding, safe that for after. God they both look great :drool :love :willow :tara

ohhh, weddings. my gf and i were at her dad and stepmom's wedding not long ago. they had a lesbian minister perform the ceremony so we'd feel more comfortable. (it was lovely of them, but kind of weird).

my rabbi, here in new mexico, performs jewish-wicca lesbian weddings! maybe they'd fly her in...

Thanks kitties.:)
I went home from the party early, I was too tired to sit up straight even, of course now I am wide awake again, d'oh. The ceremony itself (in city hall) was lovely and my friend looked absolutely beautiful, I just checked the billion pics I took and it really made me go "wow". Hum anyway, as for myself, I was far too selfconscious to really enjoy it. I absolutely hate having my pic taken. I always end up looking like the Hindenburg, complete with the flames. I go quite red and my head inflates when my pic gets taken, I swear, just look at my avatar, that really is me you know.

As for Willow and Tara, well Willow did say she wanted to wear a tux, so yeah I can see that, and Tara hmm, this Amber pic from Taboo that was posted a few weeks ago, courtesy of Rhiannongayle and Xita, is exactly how I'd envision Tara. Yum. Love that skirt and those boots.

Oooh, boots! I have to show that pic to my honey. She likes Tara in boots, too - she gave the laceup versions a starring role in her smutfic over in Pens (Shameless plug - "The River in Me").

And I would reeeeaally like to see Willow all "Marlene Dietrich-y" in a tux for the occasion, although I suspect she'd probably go for a dress. Whatever it is, it couldn't possibly be uglier than those bridesmaids' dresses in Hells Bells. Talk about the Bad Wardrobe!

I just spent the day shopping with my mother looking for a blouse for our ceremony. Renting a tux has suddenly become a LOT more appealing.

Well eventhough she was referring to her role as best man when she said

WILLOW
Duty-schmooty. I'm s'posed to be
the best man. Shouldn't I be all
Marlene Dietrichy in a dashing
tuxedo number?

it does make me think she would love to be dashing that way in the role of bride as well. :p

Good afternoon! :grin

It's my first day back at work after my trip... and unfortunately I haven't been able to get my work started. Argh. I need to get my latest book rewritten this month and I think I'm a bit intimidated by the amount of rewriting I know the book needs. I'll get there, though. All it takes is patience.

I have no idea where to put this next piece of news, so I'm putting it here in the daily thread. It seems Tensai is feeling a bit of heat over at the Spoiler Slayer. Check out what he posted yesterday:

[quote:a531474970][b:a531474970][i:a531474970]Quote:[/i:a531474970][/b:a531474970]
I just wanted to take a moment to address something that I've gotten a few e-mails about, wondering why I pulled the link to The Kitten, The Witches, and The Bad Wardrobe from the site. One in particular accused me of being biased against the Willow/Tara relationship, which is completely untrue.

There were a number of links that I pulled, because the sites have either not been updated in a very long time, or they have stopped posting spoilers entirely. The Kitten Board falls into the category of the latter, which is why I dropped the link. As I mentioned in the original post when I explained why I pulled those sites, if they begin posting spoilers or shooting location reports in the future, I will then add them again to the link list. For all intents and purposes, the Kitten Board was never intended to be a spoiler-source, but a place where fans of Willow and Tara could get together to discuss the characters and their replationship. Since the tragic end of that relationship, the Kitten Board has decided to focus solely on Willow and Tara and avoid discussion of spoilers or the show in general.
[/quote:a531474970]

So... the poor little spoiler junkies are starting to feel a touch of withdrawal, eh? I feel so sorry for them... :devil

Enjoy the rest of your day, everybody! :bounce

I've have probably thought way to much about this , but here goes. I think Tara & Willow would both wear simple flowing dresses to their wedding. Hair & makeup also simple. As to the wedding I think it might go something like this.
It would take place outside & at night, so a protection spell would be in place. They would approach a scared circle hand in hand each holding a lit white candle. Their path graced by rows of small lit candles & scattered flowers. They would enter the circle in Perfect Love & Perfect Trust. Inside the circle would be a Hoopa (a canopy that is used in Jewish weddings). The wedding would be officiated by a female Rabbi & Priestess, but, Willow & Tara would run most of it themselves. They would ask for the blessings of the elements & have colored candles at the directional points to honor them. They would also ask for the blessing of God & the Goddess & give their thanks to them. They would then join the flames of their candles together & use that joined flame to light a braided candle on the altar. Then would then set their candles in holders on either side of the braided one symbolizing the joining of their spirits. They would then hold out their right hands & join them together. The Priestess would come forward & wrap their hands in 3 colored ribbons for The Maiden, The Mother & The Crone (I always loved the hand tying ceremony) asking for their blessings & for W/T acceptance & commitment to their joining. She would step back & the Rabbi would come forward w/ the rings. Willow would slip her ring onto Tara's finger & say the traditional Jewish promise "I am my beloved's & my beloved is mine". Tara would repeat this with Willow. They would then pledge their own vows to each other. The Priestess would untie their hands & the Rabbi would hand them a wine glass. W & T would each hold the glass to their beloved's lips to drink from & then hand it back to the Rabbi. They lean forward & gently kiss, tasting the wine still on each others lips. The Rabbi blesses the glass, wraps it & puts it down before them to be stepped on, in proper Jewish tradition. The Priestess lays down a broom for them to jump over into their new life. The circle would be released & they would be greeted by the combined cries of Mazel Tov & Blessed Be from their friends & family. :willow :love :tara

When two of my friends got married last year, they both wore simple white tuxes. I thought it was a beautiful look. I'd love to see Willow and Tara in something similar. Although, the nakedness is definately not a bad idea!

Heh heh...I actually had a daydream about this last month at my gf's cousin's wedding (i should've been paying attention, i know...i'm bad...but, hey, Willow & Tara). Anywho, beautiful flower arrangements...nice, outdoors...sun shining so perfectly. They're both wearing simple, light, white dresses. They both have two subtle braids each in their hair. Tara has some kind of flowers in her hair...Willow..a little bit of baby's breath. Oh they're so happy! One day I'll draw this little scene and post it on the board. I'm not very good at explaining things that come from the mystery that is my brain.

I have now been in Korea for an entire year. 365 days. I arrived in Korea a year ago today, all disoriented and tired and not sure what exactly I'd gotten myself into. Now I'm leaving in 2 weeks, and I'll totally miss it. Even though I'm beyond excited to be going home to see friends and family. But I will be back some day. As soon as I can financially manage it, I'll come back to visit my new friends and family in Korea (I feel as though I am truly a member of my host family's family - they've made me feel so welcome.)
