For those of you who don't know Pig Latin, that's "It's Pig Latin Weekend Miss Kitty Fantastico!"
I was just watching the episode of South Park where Cartman goes to prison, and found this rather funny piece:

Kyle: we baked you this cake. There's an ailnay ilefay inside.
Cartman: What?
Kyle: An ailnay ilefay.
Cartman: What's that?
Kyle: Listen! An ailnay ilefay so you can eakbray out of isonpray.
Stan: Yeah you stupid umbassday!
Cartman: I'd love to eat a cake you guys, but they don't let us bring anything back to the cells from here.
Kyle: They on'tday? Why the ellhay otnay? It ooktay ourfay ourshay to akebay this oddamngay akecay, and owthray awaynay the umscray.
Note: that last part(after akecay) was taken from a transcripts site. It doesn't sound right, but I can't figure out what he's saying.

Anyhoo, that made me think of the following dialogue in Afterlife:
Anya: Great, so now what? We have to talk in some sort of anti-demon secret code?
Xander: Oodgay ideayay, Anyay.
Dawn: Stop talking wrong in Pig Latin and drive!

So I got to thinking, what is the proper way to say "Good idea Anya" in Pig Latin? Good is indeed oodgay. Idea, literally translated, would be deaiay. How the ellhay to you pronounce that? would the I become a y like it would in real latin, and become deayay? But if you actually converted the letters to their Latin equivilent, idea would be da*, making it da, which doesn't change to a Y. So how do you do it?
Anya would become ya-an-ay, with the first a being "uh" and the second being "ah", so yuhahnay.
Anyhoo, I felt all this Pig latin deserved a day(or weekend) of its own. So feel free to take a stab at translating "Good Idea Anya" or writing your posts in ipgay atinlay.

*if the things I put in don't work right, it's (the dipthong ae)d(long i)a, and d(long i)a(dipthong ae)(long e).

Well, let me be the playful first or so...I can't really decode that. But I think it's kind of funny that my name is Peg, and sometimes my friends and I will break out the Pig Latin. I'm Egpay. Quite a nice ring.

I could totally figure out this translation of Xander's, except for Anya's name. It just starts to hurt my brain when I try to rearrange that part...so I will leave it to the rest. I'm sure you're all much more qualified. :smile

Edited to add: Is there an official "Academe Pig Latinaise" (ala Academe Francais) for Pig Latin? I thought that if a word began w/ a vowel, you moved the final consonant to the front---to me it seems more poetic than just tacking a "hay" or "yay" to the end.

To wit: "Another" becomes "Ranotheay," "and" becomes "danay," and "I'm" becomes "Miay."

Checkie, good to know I'm not the only sufferer! ;)

wow, GG, that was really hard to translate for some reason.

edited to remove embarassing statement about how long its been for this kitten and replace with the following pig latin rules learned from 5 year pig latin boot camp training experience:

it is my understanding that each syllable gets its own treatment in pig latin, and syllables without beginning consenants (wtf is that word? the not-vowels. i am trained in cellular biology, and therefore excuse myself from being able to spell or use english) get a complimentary "y" so that they are not too hard to pronounce. when the beginning letter is supposed to be a "y" then it gets tacked onto the beginning as though it were a vowel. so the phrase "Good Idea Anya" would turn into "ood-gay i-yay e-day a-yay an-yay ya-yay."

in pig latin, when there's a vowel at the beginning of a word, you say the full word then -hay. So it would be Anya-hay.

Is it wrong to translate the first few words and then come down with a sudden headache and give up? I do much better when there are only a few words to do. Like um, ead-ray my ic-fay. ;) Also the hyphens - very helpful. LOL.

I don't want to go to work. Bah. Or um, change out of my frog pajamas.

LOL Killin Joke, you did not get that right, you got that perfect. :laugh

*edit: Oh this is a daily thread and I feel like babbling. Dear diary, today I went to a concert with one of the male nurses I work with. One of my old, well she's only 29 so not that old, highschool friends plays the violin in an orchestra. My friend (the nurse) used to play in an youth orchestra 15 years ago. Turns out while we were talking about her before the concert that he knows my friend (the one with the violin) as she was a member of that same orchestra. It also turns out we were both in love with her at the same time back then, heh heh, not that she ever knew or ever will know. Well she remembered him right away when we met. It was nice, such a small world.

Hmm well they played 3 different pieces, one, my favourite classical piece, was Tsaikovski's Romeo and Juliet. I kept picturing WT scenes in my mind while listening to it, heh, but that's not unusual for me really as I picture them in about every other thought I have. :p

He, he. She shoots, she scores ! Well, at least my "clever" remark got me some points here. Uch, how I hate oral exams (not the good kind <G>) Maybe I should sign up for a course in Pig Latin next year /chuckle/

Sounds like a "neat" (typical Willow-word) concert, DrG. Next weekend it's my turn to go to a summerfestival, and I can already see Joss and his hawaian shirt on fire on Rammstein's "Rammstein, ein Mensch brennt, Rammstein, die Sonne scheint..." :evil

I have a question that is totally off-topic, except that as a daily thread, this has no topic... anyway, does anyone know about the legality of homosexuality in China? Any Chinese kitties? Discrimination, etc.? I'm going there Wed. for 6 weeks, and I want to make sure I don't get in trouble (I don't want trouble! Well, sometimes I do, but that's a different kind of trouble, and I'm shutting up...)

hey everyone :D

I just got back home after going out for once, and I had a GREAT time... Never thought I could enjoy going out that much :D

Seeing how this is the daily/weekend topic, I figured I could post this stupid OT rambling here :D

A couple of weeks ago me and some friends had this little party, and they were all telling me how I was the only girl drinking beer...well, tonight I discovered I'm not the only one ;)

I really had a blast (despite all the fights between my best friend and her bf) and well...I'm happy about that, so I wanted to share...now what better place is there to share than here?

So... I will leave you guys/girls now to all the interesting talks... A very happy weekend to you all!!!

Damn. I've spent hours and hours helping my gf with a flooded apartment. There was something clogging a pipe that was supposed to take water from the laundry room. Instead it overflowed through my lady's sink. Ick, ick and double ick. A warm, dirty fountain in the middle of her kitchen, "like a waterfall" were her words.

Ick.

I'll let you imagine the smell.

That's it. I'm finished venting. She needs a hug.

Good evening! :D

I just got done singing at a wedding for a member of my church choir. She married a man named Rupert! :shock On top of that, the Matron of Honor was the bride's identical twin sister - and they're [b:eddb0a0425] really[/b:eddb0a0425] identical. So of course at one point in the service, the priest stops and says, "Wait a minute... we have to make sure we've got the right one..." :)

I'm hard at work, trying to finish my third novel before I go visit family on Friday. :eek <--- Umm, I'm not sure whether that eek is for trying to finish the novel or the fact that I'm visiting family. Such is my family. :grin

Have a good weekend, everybody! :bounce

wedding stories with twins: My father is an identical twin, and at my parents' wedding, my uncle was my dad's best man. Periodically throughout the night, my uncle would go to my mom and dad and tell them all the people who had congratulated them by mistaking my uncle for my dad.

So I'm back from my awesome, fabulous, spectacular, wonderful 9-day vacation on Maui. I so did not want to leave and come back to Korea. I met so many people who had gone to Hawaii for a couple weeks or a month and were still there years later. I want to go back when I finish grad school. Now I only have one month left in Korea before I return to the states.

As for pig latin, the rules I learned about words that start with vowels were that you just say the whole word and tack a "hay" on the end. O-say e-thay ord-way "all" is-hay all-hay. And, yes, hyphens help a lot!

But who here knows Op? Op is fun. You basically spell out the words, but stick "op" after all the consonants and say the name of the vowel. So Tara is top-ay-rop-ay and Willow is wop-i-lop-lop-oh-wop. Get it? It doesn't so much work written though. But it's fun to speak it! :grin

it makes my head hurt trying to read this thread, but backslang woulda worked: GavagOOD avagI-DavagE-avagA avagAN-YavagA: good idea anya, the letter's in the sentence itself are in caps.

i'm aware this has nothing to with how you say it in pig latin, but if i didn't write something in someway resolving (at least in [b:25ab1144ad] my[/b:25ab1144ad] head) then i would be thinking about this for weeks. :)
