Now THATS how you do a reset Monday, MKF!

Postby WebWarlock » Sun Jun 16, 2002 6:41 pm

I was on my way to bed when I thought I should post this.

I just watched the Season 2 premire of "Witchblade". Last season ended with a number of the main characters killed, so the heroine Sara (Yancy Butler) uses her magical gauntlet to reverse time.

Without giving too much away, season 2 starts exactly the same place that season 1 did, except now Sara makes one change that sends "history" off into another direction.

It could have been cheesy, but instead I am finding this season to be better than the last one, and far superior to "Buffy".

So, yes Virginia, resets do happen on TV. And sometimes they make a good story better and they bring back characters that never should have died in the first place.

Better take notes Joss. Sara is coming up on your girl and unlike some other "one choosen girls", Sara means buisness.

Other than that I had a great Father's day/Birthday. I got another witch for my desk (my parents are stranger than I am, no joke) and a new webcam that I can't get to work! My boy gave me a card he finger painted, and I just gave my dad a card I bought. He would have thought me fingerpainting a card for him would have been a bit odd.

Hope your monday is going well. My wife has the day off and we are going to make cheese cake!

I'm discovering [i:49d35d2d57] Stargate SG-1[/i:49d35d2d57] myself. I've never seen it before now, but my UPN station is running older episodes on Sundays at 9, at the same time the WB runs [i:49d35d2d57] Angel[/i:49d35d2d57], and the SciFi Channel runs new episodes on Fridays at 8, the same time FOX plans to run [i:49d35d2d57] Firefly[/i:49d35d2d57]. A double Whedon wipeout - who'd have thought?

I'm into the last two weeks of my next book's first draft. I'm still a bit behind the pace I wanted, but I hope to catch up at the beginning of this week.

Have a great day, everybody! :bounce

Postby Bagheera » Sun Jun 16, 2002 8:32 pm

Television abounds with resets, particularly in single episodes. The earliest I can remember was an episode of "My Favorite Martian" which naturally involved a time machine. Buffy of course had one in S3, at the end of "The Wish".
The reset champion for mine is "Red Dwarf", which killed the entire cast at the end of Season 6, but through a temporal paradox, brought them all back again in the next episode

I'm rather pessimistic about the prospects of a reset in S7, the only remotely possible one at the moment would seem to involve an AU/Tara which sounds pretty horrible. I don't care. I love Willow and Tara, and I'm getting over "Buffy".

I just watched [i:a2b8e230ee]Witchblade[/i:a2b8e230ee] with my gf, and I must say all the predictions about how the show would be worthless because "we know what's going to happen" have proven utterly wrong. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this show progresses--especially now that one character is dead who wasn't before, while the dead character from before is now alive!

BTW, a while back I also glanced at the comic book. Frankly, I prefer the tv show.

I haven't ever seen [b:12cce624ff] Witchblade[/b:12cce624ff], although I'm sure that I probably should. Heh. Anyway, yeah, Father's Day. Right.

Skipping onto the next subject, which is me, therefore something I'm gratuitously indulging in right now...I have another job interview this week. I think what I'm going to do is become a serial interviewee, who doesn't really have a chance in hell of getting a job, but applies and goes for many interviews. Although this job I want; it's interesting and within my limited capabilities as a human being. And you know...money. Sigh.

Anyway, I have a day to myself today so I shall probably write a little or play games. Probably the latter more than the former. ;)

Gee, pity the reset idea isn't mandetory, because I could stand to see that in Buffy. Seeing as I waited all series 6 for it to happen!
I am making the most of a muggy Monday off work. I am loitering at home with no mortgages dragging me down this week. I aim on playing "Britney's Dance Beat" on the PS2 because it is really brilliant!! No, really! I love her singing anyway, but it is proving to me once and for all, this gay girl doesn't know her circle from her square! Truth be known, I have no chance of ever being a dancer anywhere but at least in the world of pixels no one is laughing their butts off at me. Except my girlfriend who watches as I get my fingers in a knot trying to hit 4 buttons at once! Have a great Monday everyone! Hope your dancing proves better than mine!!

We haven't even gotten Season 1 of Witchblade yet. The only reason I know about it is from the back of the Buffy Mag that had Amber in it. Looks interesting since we need a chick who can kick butt on tv again (poor poor Xena). With a reset too I'm liking it more and more! :grin

WebWarlock, what I really want to know is are you going to share this cheesecake with the rest of us? It isn't right to just bring up cheescake and then leave us hungry!
Witchblade does sound interesting. I may have to look into it. I am trying to get into new shows over the summer since: a.) none of my friends are here taking classes like me so I have nothing to do and b.) X-files is no more and Buffy pretty much sucks. Right now I'm trying to catch up on Charmed and am kicking myself for not watching from the beginning. It's a fun show.
In Amber related news: Did anyone else catch her in the movie Bye, Bye Love on Comedy Central yesterday? She and Eliza Dukshu were such cute teenagers!
Everyone have a good day. :)

I've watched Witchblade since episode one and I love it. Sure, it's a bit corny and sometimes the acting isn't really that great, but it's a fun show. The show even seems to poke fun at itself. Sara sometimes has this look on her face when another character is explaining the powers of the Witchblade, like what the hell, you people are crazy.

I agree that the reset was done well. Last year when all the characters died one by one, I was like noooo, I liked that person. I didn't care if there was a reset as long as that meant the characters were coming back. A reset can be done and it can be done well.

The show is even gay-friendly. Last season, Sara made her partner, Jake, believe she was gay when he was being homophobic. She made him look like an idiot, practically getting on a pulpit and preaching there is nothing wrong with being gay. Unfortunately, the next episode she got a boyfriend. Oh well. At least the producers were aware they would have a gay audience, and acknowledged them.

Anyway, if you use to enjoy Buffy or Xena (before both went sour), you will most likely enjoy Witchblade.

Really enjoying Witchblade, and yeah, the reset seems to be working well. Been watching since the pilot aired, and it is an interesting and creative show. Gotta say, though, it hasn't struck the emotional chord with me that Buffy has. But maybe that's good- maybe I can just watch it without getting too invested. ;)

Drew a difficult question on my oral English exam today, but I managed to cope, without lapsing into Tara's cute stuttering mode (somehow professors don't find it adorable...) She told me she had lost my paper, so I sent it again in an e-mail attachment. Turned out she did receive it after all, had corrected it, but it kinda got lost in someone else's paper. Anyway, I got a B for discussing Morality in Victorian poetry ! Women had it really tough in that age, and as we can see, not all that much has changed now...

I hope Witchblade makes its arrival soon here. Saw a couple of eps a Dutch friend taped for me, and it looked wicked. Love Yancy Butler, and now that my favourite show Xena has ended, La femme Nikita too, BtVS is as good as dead without our Tara, and f*cking Firefly is shoving Dark Angel aside, yeah, in dire need of some girl power. I saw that gay-friendly ep, I think... Didn't it take place in a bar, where Sarah posed as a guy, and the character, played by David Cockachi, had to pretend to be gay ?

As far as a reset's concerned: it's all fine by me. At this point I don't care how they do it, as long as they bring Tara back.

Be careful with the reset, though: in my opinion, they ought bring Tara back, but if tey do it without somehow putting Willow on the track to recovery (and therefore estoring W/T) then I'm not nearly as enthsiastic! :)

"Ah, there lies the rub..." I understand your concerns, Penrose. I agree, but in my most humble and honest opinion, bringing Tara back could be the key (sorry, Dawn ;) ) to Willow's recovery... Talk about a great start to get back on the right track again :) Together they're so much stronger. Willow has shown she could overcome her problems, with Tara distancing herself from her (not + ) but now it's time for a change... for something drastic. If they'd bring Tara back, she could say they will solve things together this time. I won't mind a painful arc where they work through the agony Will has to deal because she killed a human and an evil male witch, and tried to finish her friends and the world... as long as we see them doing it "together" (damn, I'm using that word a lot: has such a great ring to it: W/T together, forever :) )

I have another job interview this week. I think what I'm going to do is become a serial interviewee, who doesn't really have a chance in hell of getting a job, but applies and goes for many interviews.
[/quote:cbe0b04532]
Sigh. I have spent the better part of my adolescent and adult life as a serial interviewee. At one point my mother started mailing me Dear Abby-type interviewing tips she had clipped from newspaper sections which are only read by the chronically unemployed/unemployable and their mothers. One of them included the brilliant insight that I should bathe before the interview. Thanks mom. That was a real ego boost.

I stumbled on the following list of interview faux pas which was compiled from a survey of personnel directors at various companies. Now I take it with me whenever I go on an interview and read it in the waiting room b/c it always makes me giggle (inside) and puts me a little more at ease.

35 Things To Avoid in a Job Interview:
1. Said he was so well-qualified [that] if he didn't get the job, it would prove that the company's management was incompetent.
2. Stretched out on the floor to fill out the job application.
3. Brought her large dog to the interview.
4. Chewed bubble gum and constantly blew bubbles.
5. Candidate kept giggling through serious interview.
6. She wore a Walkman and said she could listen to me and the music at the same time.
7. Balding candidate abruptly excused himself. Returned to office a few minutes later, wearing a hairpiece.
8. Applicant challenged interviewer to arm wrestle.
9. Asked to see interviewer's resume to see if the personnel executive was qualified to judge the candidate.
10. Announced she hadn't had lunch and proceeded to eat a hamburger and french fries in the interviewer's office.
11. Without saying a word, candidate stood up and walked out during the middle of the interview.
12. Man wore jogging suit to interview for position as financial vice president.
13. Said if he were hired, he would demonstrate his loyalty by having the corporate logo tattooed on his forearm.
14. Interrupted to phone his therapist for advice on answering specific interview questions.
15. Wouldn't get out of the chair until I would hire him. I had to call the police.
16. When I asked him about his hobbies, he stood up and started tap dancing around my office.
17. Had a little pinball game and challenged me to play with him.
18. Bounced up and down on my carpet and told me I must be highly thought of by the company because I was given such a thick carpet.
19. Took a brush out of my purse, brushed his hair and left.
20. Pulled out a Polaroid camera and snapped a flash picture of me. Said he collected photos of everyone who interviewed him.
21. Candidate asked me if I would put on a suit jacket to insure that the offer was formal.
22. Said he wasn't interested because the position paid too much.
23. While I was on a long-distance phone call, the applicant took out a copy of Penthouse, and looked through the photos only, stopping longest at the centerfold.
24. During the interview, an alarm clock went off from the candidate's brief case. He took it out, shut it off, apologized and said he had to leave for another interview.
25. A telephone call came in for the job applicant. It was from his wife. His side of the conversation went like this: "Which company? When do l start? What's the salary?" I said, "l assume you're not interested in conducting the interview any further." He promptly responded, "I am as long as you'll pay me more. "I didn't hire him, but later found out there was no other job offer. It was a scam to get a higher offer.
26. An applicant came in wearing only one shoe. She explained that the other shoe was stolen off her foot in the bus.
27. His attache [case] opened when he picked it up and the contents spilled, revealing ladies' undergarments and assorted makeup and perfume.
28. He came to the interview with a moped and left it in the reception area. He didn't want it to get stolen, and stated that he would require indoor parking for the moped.
29. He took off his right shoe and sock, removed a medicated foot powder and dusted it on the foot and in the shoe. While he was putting back the shoe and sock, he mentioned that he had to use the powder four times a day, and this was the time.
30. Candidate said he really didn't want to get a job, but the unemployment office needed proof that he was looking for one.
31. He whistled when the interviewer was talking.
32. Asked who the lovely babe was, pointing to the picture on my desk. When I said it was my wife, he asked if she was home now and wanted my phone number. I called security.
33. She threw-up on my desk, and immediately started asking questions about the job, like nothing had happened.
34. Pointing to a black case he carried into my office, he said that if he was not hired, the bomb would go off. Disbelieving, I began to state why he would never be hired and that I was going to call the police. He then reached down to the case, flipped a switch and ran. No one was injured, but I did need to get a new desk.
35. Asked if I wanted some cocaine before starting the interview.

Good luck Ruth. :)

And as I have far too much free time on my hands and watch too much TV, I think that probably means it hasn't made it across the Atlantic yet :)

Good luck with the interview, Ruth. I was always told the hardest part was getting that far, now you just have to hit 'em with a charm offensive.

I'm applying for a new job at the moment, so fingers crossed for me too. I need to escape. So very badly.

I actually liked the first season of Witchblade better, Tim. I liked it because I had no clue what was going on, and they didn't explain ANYTHING (or at least, I missed the explanation) until 3 or so episodes in. This I had a better grasp on what was happening, and thus was less confused. Also, Gabriel wasn't on the show for very long, and that was disappointing. Hopefully they'll have more of him in later episodes. Jake was only on for what seemed to be two minutes, but it looks like tonight the episode will be about him. So maybe they'll do the same for Gabe? And did they completely drop that white bull or whatever it was story line?

However, you're right, it WAS a good premiere.

Alirissa, I didn't quite like that episode, where Sara said that she was a lesbian. At the time, I felt that I'd rather see a REAL lesbian on tv than a straight character pretending to be lesbian. But I do appreciate that the episode was blatantly against homophobia.

And good luck Ruth!

I, too, go to work to escape the house. Also, you know, money. ;) Unfortunately I work night shift, from 4 pm to 1 am. I can't wait until I have the money to get my truck on the road, because borrowing my gf's grandmother's car four nights a week is going to really suck. With my truck, I mean, it isn't much to look at, but at least it won't matter in the slightest if it gets hit with shopping carts. It'll just shake some more Bondo loose from the body. There's a design place across the street from the Wal*Mart I work at looking for a designer, hopefully they want someone part-time. I am gonna check that out this week, but so far none of the graphics places wanted me. I refuse to be a cashier for the rest of my life!!

I watched Witchblade a few times, back in New York, but haven't looked for it out here. I'm more of a comic book person, I guess. Hmm. I think that's all. Time to go back to writing!

I was a bit disappointed also that we found out by the next episode that she wasn't a lesbian. I would also rather see a real lesbian on tv. But I had to give the show kudos for actually acknowledging lesbians were watching the show. Plus, the show seems to be like Xena a bit with the subtext. Sara wears jeans, a leather jacket, drives a motorcycle and fits into many other lesbian stereotypes. It makes one wonder were the show is heading. And last night they slipped in two moments that had me wondering again. First a women hit on Sara or at least seemed to hit on her. Then another woman thought Sara was hitting on her. Who knows.

I can't remember where I read it (magazine I think), but seems there will be a bit of a delay on new witchblade eps since series star Yancy Butler checked herself into rehab and they only have 6 episodes completed. We've seen the Witchblade premiere movie and the movie with the reset, but not any of the episodes. Liked them both, but the episodes aren't broadcast here. Also, Ms. Butler has good screen presence and has the physicality to be belivable when she's kicking ass.

Yeah if Witchblade can do a reset and still make the show believable, than Buffy she take a lesson and follow suit. And yes Witchblade was delayed for a little while due to Yancy Butler checking into treatment for alcohol abuse. It was in the newspapers, but she is fine now, and the production seems to back on schedule.

I've reached the opposite end of the spectrum. I've decided that the only thing I really enjoy is writing and I would like to go around the US. As it happens I'm blessed with 40,000 mortgage on a 90,000 house. So basically I'm selling up getting out and going to try and spend a year or two trying to write something that someone uight actually publish, and hey if it doesn't work at least I tried. :)

Well, i have a half-day left, but ya just spend 4 hours in homeroom, and my HR teacher is awesome and likes us all a lot, so I'll just spend the time listening to my Mp3 player and playing poker/blackjack. I'm also proud to announce my triumphant return to fic-writing. I got a new idea and decided to run with it. But I've discovered a revolutionary new concept: pre-writing. See, the last fic I wrote was like 99% free-writing. But this is gonna be different. It picks up where S6 left off in my own twisted mind. I've yet to decide on a title. But enough plugging. *twiddles thumbs trying to think of something else to say*. Nope, that's it.
