Kitten Charity Drive - The Trevor Project

The Drive is Over! $8,326.27

The tragedy of Tara's brutal murder and the destruction of W/T has left many of with the desire to do something. We have seen and heard about the impact this has had on many GLBT youth. It is with this in mind that we have chosen, the Trevor Project as the charity that will benefit from our fundraising. We won't set a goal, because we want to raise as much as possible. I will keep everyone updated on our efforts. The following is a quote about what The Trevor Project is all about:

[b:c6bf9b2a1f]The Trevor Project is a nonprofit endeavor created by the makers of TREVOR to promote tolerance for gay and questioning youth, and to aid in suicide prevention among that group. Statistics have shown that gay teens are three times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers, and The Trevor Project hopes, through its efforts, to prevent some of those tragedies from occurring.[/b:c6bf9b2a1f]

The following are options on how to make payments to Our Kitten Fund!

Pay by Check or Money Order

Make your check or money order payable to [b:c6bf9b2a1f]The Trevor Project[/b:c6bf9b2a1f]. Please write "Kitten Charity Drive" in the comments area of your check/money order. If you plan on sending money this way, please e-mail fundraiser@kittenboard.com telling me when you send your check/moneyorder and how much it was for. This way I can reply to you when I have received it. I don't trust the postal service :) Anyway, send your check and money orders to:

[b:c6bf9b2a1f]xita

12828 Victory Blvd #172

Valley Glen, CA 91606
[/b:c6bf9b2a1f]

Money Orders can be purchased with a credit card and online. If you are paying from overseas, this may be your best bet, to purchase and International Money Order.

Pay through Pay Pal

Please check out our Charity Drive Page for instructions on how to pay by Pay Pal with or without credit card, notice there are 2 ways of doing this, 2 different accounts one for regular pay pal and one for credit cards. It has nice easy buttons you can click!

Donate for the big eBay Kitten Auction

The Kitten Charity Auction is underway!

We plan to begin our auctions on [b:c6bf9b2a1f] Wednesday, August 21, 2002[/b:c6bf9b2a1f]. The auction will run ten days till [b:c6bf9b2a1f] Sunday, August 31, 2002[/b:c6bf9b2a1f].

So use this time to get your items all in order.

Ok. This is going to be an Ebay auction. So you will need an Ebay account.

For item you are selling for the auction we request that you put the Kitten Charity Auction graphic on your page somewhere. If you need help please feel free to ask.

Once you have your page set up email web.warlock@attbi.com">web.warlock@attbi.com and he will put links up to your items to make it easier for people to find them. Any items that you are selling that are not for the auction just leave off the graphic.

For payment, you can use whatever works best for you. Given that the Auction is set to end on Aug 31, I would suggest PayPal or money orders so you don't have to wait for checks to clear the bank.

If you don't have an Ebay account, or for some reason you can't set up an auction for yourself (there could be a lot of good reasons) then please contact Web Warlock, web.warlock@attbi.com">web.warlock@attbi.com or Rally at rallyv@yahoo.com"> rallyv@yahoo.com and they can run it for you. You can discuss in the email about how you can do this.

For the record here are the Ebay about me pages for

Web Warlock,

Rally's members.ebay.com/aboutme/RallyRams/.

Tyche
Tyche's auction times

Things to help make your auction experience better.

- If you can get digital pics or scans of your items. If a picture is worth a 1,000 words, then it is also worth a few extra hits on your auction.

- Try to accurately describe your items. Give condition, including any shelf wear or odd marks.

- We are all listing our items on Wednesday. But since the Kitten is global any time is good, but having an auction that ends during Ebay's peak hours is best. Often you make your most money in the last minute bids. This is between 4:00pm and 7:00pm PST (-800 GMT).

- Use Ebay's own seller tips. pages.ebay.com/help/sellerguide/index.html and pages.ebay.com/help/sell/index.html

- If you have a lot of items, consider Mr. Lister, pages.ebay.com/services/buyandsell/mr.html

- Make sure you place your item in the correct category. listings.ebay.com/aw/listings/list/categories.html

Any inquiries about this drive can be made to fundraiser@kittenboard.com. All information will be [b:c6bf9b2a1f]confidential[/b:c6bf9b2a1f]

Edited to ask: Is there any way we can keep a running total or something of the donations?

I have another question

Because of 2 reasons (no money and not knowing how to do the international banking stuff things) I don't think I'm able to do something financially...

Is there anything else that I could do? Does anyone have any ideas on that?

I have plenty of British magazines etc. which I would be willing to donate for the Kitten auction. I also have the Monster Book, the Sunnydale High School Yearbook, and the BtVS pop-out people if you want them too.
I'll try and send something by PayPal, if I can set up an account, but I'm not sure what their policy is regarding UK users.

Just coming in to follow on Xita's "hit the ground running" post.

This is our chance to something really good.

I'll post more information about the Trevor Proect when I have it. Plus there is the auction coming up.

For those that can't help moneywise, I am sure there will be things to do!

Here is to our success!

Just wrote out my check. Gotta agree with everyone else, it felt wonderful. Fantastic to see something so positive coming out of this!

Also, quick question: Are we gonna be announcing this/opening this up to other boards? I wouldn't mind making a post at the BC&S about the drive, but I wanted to check to see if that would be appropriate first.

Can anyone outside the US try to find out how to best contribute from outside the country? I know that there is a place online that sells international money orders. What is the best way, does anyone know?

Oh and yes we''ll keep a tally.

When I have bought things overseas usually the best thing is to purchase and international money order or cashiers check in US dollars and then mail it to Xita.

Wire transfers cost to damn much.

Just done a quick check for on-line international money orders.

I found this one www.sendmoneyorder.com

They say they "welcome customers from every nation of the Earth" and have customers in over 160 countries, with payments to over 200 countries.

This is how it works:

1 You enter the information for the payment you want to send into their website.
2 You pay for your order with your credit card, bank account, or PayPal account.
3 They print a money order with the information you provided and send it through the postal mail.
4 The recipient receives a real money order in their postal mailbox and cashes it at their bank.

Sounds okay, but I stress I have never used them and found the site about two minutes ago, so I'm open to any other suggestions :)

Oh, also, I'll try and find out about how much of the money the recipient actually gets. Which is the most important thing.

Edited to add: They only accept US Checkings and Savings accounts.

But they calculate everything in US dollars, so if you send $20, that's what the charity will get.

However, they charge a fee depending on how much you want to send. So for example, if you send $50, it costs $55.09 from credit card or PayPal.

It's slightly cheaper from a US account. Oh and they have a handy calculator that lets you work out how much it will cost.

Ok.

We some people that want to make credit card payments. That is great.
[b:3c5aa5a612] But before you do! Please email me![/b:3c5aa5a612], web.warlock@attbi.com

We have set up a special account that can handle it. I'll email you that account name after we talk so that you can use it and not the one above.

Everyone else, please don't send normal payments to the credit card account! ;) They charge us a big old fee!

Thanks.

Yes, avoid credit cards if possible, if you must, know they are going to charge us and deduct from your contribution be aware. An alternative would be to buy a money order using a credit card. For those in the US you can do that anywhere you buy a money order.

Hey, Tim. When I did my PayPal donation, I checked off "quasi-cash" as the option by default (it wasn't for an auction, etc.) Should I have done differently as it was on my credit card? Am I gonna stiff you?? I know there was a warning saying that I might be charged a fee on my end with my credit card.
Please advise.:)

No Janice, you did fine. The problem was me! ;)

I clicked the upgrade and they assessed fees on the money you sent and I sent. no fears, I made up the diff (a few cents) but I don't want that to happen to everyone!

Everything is cool.

Postby pikachu1060 » Thu Aug 01, 2002 10:11 am

Well, i had to do a few payment for auctions and stuffs, and the two best ways, according to me, for people who live outside the US, are paypal and bidpay (www.bidpay.com).

If you don't know the second one, it's more or less the same as paypal, except that they don't put the money on an account for the recipient, but they send a money order instead. So, you have to enter some personal information (including your credit card number, of course), and the name and address of the recipient so that they can send the money order. You can do it from anywhere in the world, though the recipient has to be a US resident (i think).

Hope this helps.
Chris.

I must be dimmer than I thought, 'cos I seem to be having problems setting up a Pay Pal account. Firstly, it required me to enter my credit card details (which I didn't really want to do, since I want to transfer funds from my savings account). Then, before I can do anything else, I have to wait for my Member Number to appear on my next credit card statement (which is a month away!) I tried to deposit funds from my UK account, but it says it will only accept US banks. What I am doing wrong? (I'm really naive when it comes to financial biz!)

Best way for those living outside the US
would be to use paypal or bidpay.

I have used them both and found them hassle free and easy
once you have set them up.

hey Mike of the Nancy tribe, i remember having had the same problem as you, that is having to wait for my member number when i first registered. But actually, it was my father credit card (poor student here... :\ ) and i don't know exactly what kinda credit card it is, but anyway, my father could see his statement online. So i got my member number pretty fast. Maybe you should check if you too can see your statement online, i think that's possible for most of the credit cards.

hi pikachu1060 :)

I've looked at the bidpay site, to use that to buy a money order to send. But it says it only deals with Auctions.

Do you think it would work if I pick 'Other' for auction site & make up User Id, & Item no.?
