Okay, first of all I owe you a big thanks today. For all the usual 'this is a wonderful story' reasons, but also because while browsing harmlessly, minding my own business, I managed to pick up some malicious bugger of a Spyware program which took the entire afternoon to get even back down to a manageable state (by which I mean I think it's gone, but it may still be lurking around out of sight of my various detection programs, just waiting to give me more headaches). This resulted in today, which had been looking up in the morning, being overall entered in the books as an 'I wish I'd never gotten out of bed' day. Even so, reading this chapter brought many a smile to my world-weary face, and on days like this that's a real gift. Thank you :bow

Now, onto said chapter, and the thing that most strikes me thinking over it - no surprise here - is Tara listening to Willow's music. That. Was. Hot. I don't mean Faith in leather pants hot, or Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft hot (yeah, I'm a Tomb Raider fan, so sue me :) ), or even Catherine Zeta Jones as Velma Kelly hot. That was hot like the story writing 'HOT' in indelible ink straight onto my brain, such that if I took a cold shower, the shower itself would end up needing a cold shower. And it wasn't just hotness for hotness' sake, but hotness with so many layers.

I arrived at the thought that this is another parallel between the various characters in the story, with Tara realising something she apparently hadn't suspected about Willow. We've had Oz preferring his imagined Willow, Willow being quite ready to embrace the real Tara over her imagined version, and now it's sort of like the same thing, Tara being confronted with a new side of Willow, one she may not have really imagined existed - I mean, sure she's thought Willow was hot, but fantasising to herself and having the music of Willow's hotness played directly into her consciousness are different things, or so it seems to me. And Tara's not just embracing this new facet of Willow, she's totally blown away by it.

If only Willow knew what was going on down in the studio - did she hear Tara up the volume? Or had she put her headphones back on... the thought that kept occurring to me was that the music, which was an extension of Willow, was making love to Tara. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the songs are awesome in their own right (thanks for the playlist, by the way, I'll see if I can score a listen to some of them somewhere), but it seemed to me that what was going on wasn't just Tara being turned on by music, but Tara being turned on by Willow - the parts of Willow that were expressed in the music.

For that matter, I wonder if Willow's really thought about the songs she gave Tara - not that she'd regret it truly, I don't think, but it certainly seems like she's giving Tara an insight into a very private side of her. Especially considering that she's still unsure whether Tara has any romantic interest in her, no matter how swimmingly their friendship is going. She's just handed this CD full of deep, raw, sexual, revealing music to Tara, marked 'Real Me' - even without Willow being aware that she's given Tara a massive happy by remote, she's got to realise that Tara won't be oblivious to the meaning of the songs. I wonder how Tara will react to Willow now that she's had this sort of pseudo-hot-love session with part of her psyche, and how Willow will react, if she thinks about what she might have revealed? Will she figure it's all for the best, or will she worry that she's revealed too much?

Naturally I'd love to see what Tara puts on canvas after this - or read, rather, but it's not like you've had trouble so far conveying scenes and images so well I imagine I can see them. I like the sound of the 'fire and ice' idea she's starting at the end of the chapter, it sounds like a great starting point for Tara's 'colour and emotion' kind of style. I'm wondering too whether, when Tara steps back and looks at her work, she'll wonder what Willow might think when she sees them. I'm guessing Tara's going to show Willow the painting(s)? And we know Willow's no doofus when it comes to looking at art, even if she's still pretty unsure on the matter, and liable to get a relapse of foot-in-mouth disease. What might she think, if Tara shows her the product of her 'Real Me' music painting session, and it's full of incredible passion? Will she put it down to Tara's skill as an artist, or might she read more into it?

Moving on - with difficulty - to scenes that don't involve Tara getting all hot and sweaty in the embrace of Willow-music... Willow's dream really was interesting, and not only because of how she was sort of dreaming and aware of reality at the same time, only not enough to lose the dream. Willow's got an orderly mind, I guess :) The brief conversation she had with dream-Tara was interesting, that basically sums up what Willow hopes Tara meant when she said "Adorable", yet at the same time you can see the basis for Willow to doubt whether that's what Tara really meant - what if she thinks Willow is adorable like she thinks Buffy is adorable?

This is going to be a long week for both of them :)

I did, of all things, briefly flirt with the idea that Tara's a vampire - she didn't enter Willow's room until she was invited, when she started playing the music and fantasising, one of the first images was Willow leaning back and exposing her neck... don't mind me, I'm just being a goof :)

Speaking seriously of Tara's visit to Willow's room, it was really heartening that Willow offered to show Tara what she was working on. It goes to show that she's taken what Tara's said about her work to heart, in spite of her bout of dork-anxiety at the party (heck, she was anxious about everything), and rather than cling to her earlier behaviour of trying to keep her work separate, in case it upset Tara, she's really willing to trust Tara to let her know if she's upset by anything. That struck me as a big moment, even though it seems so small - Willow's willing to trust Tara, to perhaps mess up, rather than try to make everything 'perfect' first time around. I think it shows she's starting to believe that their friendship, at least, has something of a solid basis, and isn't so ephemeral that the slightest crisis could derail the whole thing.

Nice to see Willow invite Tara to lunch - even if it is (unless I got it wrong) just a matter of the two of them having lunch together in the house, rather than separately, not a big 'go out for lunch' date or anything. And on top of that, Tara did specifically tell Willow to come get her when it's time - as in, come into the studio, see what she's been working on all morning with 'Real Me' Willow-thoughts tickling her all over :drool

It goes without saying I'm looking forward to more. Thanks :)

Thank you for your kind thoughts and of course thank you for the update.

The first part, well if it is a taster of what is to come (the great thing about Pens is we're certain of our ending, and it makes it doubly delicious to experience the journey toward it), I can't wait for them to finally admit what is bubbling so fiercely just below their consciousness. Hmmm. First kiss. First words of love. First touch. First taste. Mmmmmm.

The middle part, of their obsession about "the lean", once again shows to me how much they are both overanalyzing, overthinking and for once they really should listen to those hormones of theirs. The interlude, of coffee goodness, was well, goodness.

Which brings me to the last part. Now I have a confession to make, which is I don't read songfics, because when I read them I want more, not just verses upon verses of lyrics interspaced with a description of what the characters wre doing (no offense to songfic writers out there, it's probably just me). Now, reading those paragraphs about Tara listening to The Real Me, I was almost shouting out loud, though there was no one to listen to me: "This is how to do a songfic!" Not just as a background, but actually affecting Tara, mentally, spiritually, physically. That even before your notes on which songs they were, I was already able to hear them in my mind, that I too had a reaction to them, even though it was a reaction to the reaction of someone I'm merely reading about on paper (well, it's on screen, but I digress).

Beautiful. Powerful. Masterful.

Hi. I am glad your dad was able to see all the feedback wishing him good health. Thanks.

I really love the interaction between Willow and Tara now. Tara bringing the coffee up to Willow was so sweet. I can't believe she haven't notice all these little things Tara has been doing for her. Tara sitting down and trying to figure out Willow through her CD's is promising. I wonder if Tara's painting will be as revealing as Willow's CD. I just hope she doesn't think that Xander is involved in her music selection :pray :pray :pray . That will be just cruel.:devil

I hope I didn't give you any ideas :devilish .

Another piece of the Day in the Park puzzle. I'm still lost on that. Hopefully the next piece will help in the mystery. Thanks for a wonderful update this Monday morning. It really brightened my day when I found that there was an update. :applause :bounce :pinky :rofl

hey,

your dad has a nice sense of humor, lol. I hope he is doing ok.

It's really sweet too see how good their interaction is growing.

As always, i loved your dream sequences. Especially Willow's. Tara's too of course, those were some hot thoughts, lol. At the end of it i was suddenly imagining, what Tara would have done if Willow would have knocked on her door in that very moment, hee.

I can't wait to see their lunch.

Oh, and i really liked this one from Tara:

Quote:
"Just come and get me when you're hungry."

She flashed a lopsided grin and Willow melted.

:blush :D (or maybe it's just me and my perv mind today, lol)

Awesome update!

Well, I think we are leaving the “I like her but it’s impossible” part to face the “Maybe?” phase that I think it would be as wonderful as the former but... with a little bit less of angst? (the kind of angst that makes me feel sad for the girls, I mean). And you gave us some sexy stuff, that’s a plus, hope and nasty thoughts all together in the same update. :D

For the “Real me” CD... it looks like a brave way of telling somebody: I’m something more than what you see. And Tara has got at least part of the message. I like the way you describe the music and how you managed to make it so meaningful even for people like me that didn’t recognize any of the songs. I'm sure that Tara has some questions to make about the music and I hope she'll try to know more about the "Real Willow" at lunch. ;)

Best wishes and keep working that great sense of humor, laughing and loving are the first and better medicines in human history.

find the music

Postby meretricious » Mon Dec 06, 2004 12:06 pm

bardgirl, the tina dico track you're looking for can be found on i-tunes, or amazon. all of the tracks listed for this update, except for charmless can be found on amazon, although the rubicks track only seems to be on a compilation for rough trade records (their counter culture 2002 2cd set) but you can at least listen to the song there. the thermals, les savy fav (as well as nico case, black keys, kitchens of distinction, and kings of convenience from early chapters) are all on itunes, the eskimos are on i-tunes, but not the track from this update. it is at the bands website, though, free download. another good place to check is last.FM personal radio network, has almost all of these songs, but a little labor intensive up front, and you need a good connection.

and you can find four tracks by charmless, (but not the one listed) at myspace.com

hope this helps!`mary

Your dad rocks. *bows before awesome dad*

And now I must tell you the side story of reading your story.

I read the update, got down to the cd-music-extravaganza-part. Read the lyrics, liked 'em so very much and found Smoke Baby without issue. And now I'm obsessed with that song and that beat and....wow...good song.

But! I can't find the other two songs, especially the last one which made it OH so hard to find for some ungodly reason. I get getting Sum41 lyrics and I doubt that's what you were going for....

PLEASE! Help out a kitten in need and tell me where, how, who and what songs they are you're referencing too. Because let me tell you...there's nothing like reading a song along with a story.....especially if Tara's listening to it.

And MY GOD! What an update!

Dear Heather,

I'm very sorry to hear about your Dad. All my best wishes to him, to you and your family. Think it is a hard time for all of you. But your Dad really has a great sense of humor - that will help the healing process. The more I'm astounded that you kept the updates once a week. Thank you for that, too.

Sorry, not leaving more feedback. Wanted to even if I said I wouldn't, to give you more time for writing. But there was no time left for feedback. But I read every update and I'm looking for the new ones all the time.

You do such a good job in writing this story. The last few updates they were so wow. And the girls are getting closer and closer. But I fear there will be another incident before Buffy comes back. Otherwise it seems to lead into an early intimate situation. If Willow will be strong enough?

At least I think they both slowly get a clue on the others feelings. And like we see time can go so slow when you are in love and you're not sure whether your feelings are replied. So I'm very impatient about the two finally revealing there secrets to one another I love every word of your story.

What's gonna happen next at the lunch? Oh, and Tara is a very polite and decent person not giving into her arousal after having so many naughty thoughts about Willow. How will she survive the next few days?

Heather,

Thanks for the laugh re: your dad reading Neverland. I can understand that keeping it private. No one in my family has read or even knows that I write online so I'm happy with that. But very glad that he was buyoed by everyone's well wishes. That's one of the wonderful things about this board: everyone is so positive and supportive.

I like this update very much although it felt short for one of yours. What I found my striking is the difference in tone in the girls' dreams and obsession. For once it seems that Willow's was a much more sweet, love focused dream. Definitely giving her the answer about "adorable," not that she listens well to that. Even though her dream did contain the leg/center interaction which is doubtlessly hot, it concentrated on the snuggling and words. Very nice.

But then Tara: naughty dreams about Willow that she can't even remember and the music in the studio! Wow and wow for hot. Interesting that Tara is not only in love with Willow (which has been abundantly expressed throughout) but also deeply in lust. Nonetheless, it would seem that the blonde has found some inspiration for her week of painting! Gee and that was just what, 20?, songs. Imagine if Willow copied the entire 9200 for Tara? She'd never stop painting.

Well done and best wishes.

Re: find the music

Postby Kajun » Mon Dec 06, 2004 2:13 pm

My mom always said, “Don’t sweat the small stuff.” I heard that quote more times than I care to admit. It’s easy to understand but not always so easy to implement. Willow’s dreams are reducing the icky sweat inducing stuff while enhancing the naughty variety. Is she aware her dreams are providing much needed answers and is that partially why she was able to hit the snooze and return to dreamland the first time but not the second? I’m glad she moved on from the ‘leaning’ incident and on to more pleasant thoughts. Yah for plans to get another HUG from Tara!

I was starting to wonder.. but it finally happened; showing Tara’s thoughts of Willow that are of a sensual/sexual nature and how ‘Real Willow’ affects her physically, so much more than the occasional blush or shiver from a brief touch. Her efforts to suppress these ‘spicy’ feelings because she thinks Willow is ‘not that way’ were working too well so it’s nice to see Tara ‘letting go’ a little. A few more listens to the CD will enhance her dream recollection much better than Mugwort. And Paint!! I wouldn’t be surprised if Willow chose “spill water..” because of that day in the park. Hmm.. Willow will be getting Tara for lunch. :D

Willow really doesn’t need another chair. The bed is fine. Really.

That was a great demonstration of Willow’s imaging work. It may be very complicated but Tara doesn’t need to know the intricate details of the program to appreciate its importance in the medical field not only for Doctors, but patients and their families as well. Speaking of.. glad to hear your dad is maintaining a sense of humor. Still sending good vibes..

Now I have to go paint. Not the pleasant “RM” inspired kinda paint. The crappy, oops.. I messed up this wall and need to repaint it now kinda paint. ARG. But.. I have many great visuals via this update to make the job go much easier! Thanks for posting the playlist and another awesome update. Looking forward to the next part. :heart

Terrific update Heather..!

You delved into both their 'dreams' and mutual desire.

Willow's dream, a continuation of the 'previous night' IF Willow overcame her inhibitions and if, and if...her unconsciousness analyzing the 'adorable' comment...

It's also nice that they drive each other to distraction, although I can say that Tara's more affected by it, especially while listening to Willow's REAL ME CD (by the way, please do divulge the name of those songs!!)

I loved their interaction, and the way, they're drawn closer, they're less awkward, and are rather eager to overcome nervousness (Tara entering Willow's room, Tara offering coffee...sitting on Willow's bed). It's wonderful how you capture those little details, such as Willow listening to music through headphones and Tara wanting her to be at home... or Willow inviting Tara for lunch. Great steps toward a better relationship!

On a completely different note: Pens must create a 12 step program to initiate parents into the board! or maybe, provide a parental-oriented form of the site, that your dad (and others...) can peruse :laugh Wish him all the best!

and as always, Can't wait for more!

I've been very bad about feedback lately :blush

Anyway the last few updates have been brilliant :applause

I liked the putting up the lights part. Though oopsie about Willow leaving her Tara songlist on her computer, I just hate when that happens.

The last update was really good. It's good that they're spending their time together getting to know each other. Though it seems to be Tara who's taking the initiative on that front.

Willow's description of the software she's working on was interesting. Okay, I'll be honest, it had me falling on the floor in a fit of geeky pleasure :) Though now you've got me interested I have to ask this, what language is she using? (feel free to say "you sad bastard")

Willow's choice of songs for her cd certainly had a strong affect on Tara :shower

Though I can't help but feel that if Willow had been really smart she would have included the song "I'm a lesbian and I'm secretly in love with my flat mate" What do you mean there's no such song? There is too, it's by that singer. You know the one from that band :p

As proof of it's existance here's the chorus

I'm a lesbian and

I'm secretly in love with my flatmate

it really sucks that

she thinks that I'm straight.

Quote:
The buzz saw of a modified, distorted electric guitar was introduced into the song, and the layer ratcheted up the tension, the cacophony of sound building as the singer sang about being 'in too deep'...

Wow, is that the song "In to deep"? By Belinda Carlisle? because squeee Belinda Carlisle :thud

(um, if it's some other song can we forget about that little outburst?)

Looking forward to :read more

Lovely update! I particularly liked the coffee in Willow's room scene, and Willow sharing her work with Tara--they are trusting each other more, acting like friends. Is it me, or are Willow's bare walls just screaming for a Tara painting or two? Afterall, Tara is now being inspired by Willow's "Real Me" cd, so.....Loved the way you used the music, by the way, and Tara's daydream--I was as breathless as she was by the end! So, we will be experiencing this week with the girls in "real time," eh? Does that mean a post everyday?!! :p (A girl can dream!)

Glad to hear your dad's sense of humor is working, it should serve him well as he recovers. You're all in my thoughts....

Camille

BTW--Loved Chris' (Artemis) take on Tara's music-induced fantasy--that it was as if Willow was making love to Tara through the music.....I enjoy his feedback almost as much as the updates!

Hey Heather! This was so incredible, if possible, even more so than usual.

I know I can't say any more than has already been said, except for each scene, it was totally like I was there. I could see the dream sequence, feel the emotion and hear the music. Simply awesome job.

Sounds like your dad is a spunky guy. Good for him. Are you positive there are no pictures? Maybe if we look real hard...

And as for the parents reading Pens, believe me, I totally understand. I can imagine my family seeing some, um, more spicy fics. Probably wouldn't be good for their health! LOL

First off: your dad. Hope he's still in high spirits and that all is going smoothly. Your dad reading coming to the board... not so great an idea... lol. It would probably shock the heck out of him. *Imagines my dad coming here* :paranoid *shudders at the thought* Let's just say he'd be, um, really surprized... Definitely glad to see a nice outpouring of support for you from this board. We're always here if you need to vent.

Now, the update.

Intropsection time for both. Although, might I add: poor Tara! lol. She got herself into a nice little mess with the "Real Me" playlist. (BTW, I have been watching way too much Newlyweds/Jessica Simpson stuff cause every time I read that, I think of her song of the same title... not you fault, though.) Although, yay! for inspiration. Can't wait to see what she paints and if Willow will venture into her studio and see it.

Willow doesn't know what she does to Tara. Finally, a part of her brain realizes that "adorable" is generally not something one applies to something that a "friend" does... at least, not under those circumstances. Slowly but surely, she's getting somewhere.

Good for Tara telling Willow that she lives there, too, and does not need to wear the headphones at home.

Willow still has not put up pictures on the wall. Does Willow have any pictures of her and Tara? I don't recall if you mentioned that anywhere in your story thus far. I have a feeling that if she did, she would have put up the photo either on the wall or her desk. Just a random thought.

Waiting patiently for your next update. No. Really. Patiently. Okay, not so patiently. :kitty

Oh, wow. Yes, um, wow. What a wonderful update! Not only are you revealing more of Willow's and Tara's personalities, but you are also revealing the world in which they exist. The attention to detail is great...this is what really draws the readers in and from the looks of all the replies (in such a short time too!), you've hit it right on the mark.

I love how the girls are finally becoming real friends and sharing small moments together (like the coffee and the music). And thank God that Tara's attempts at getting past Willow are not working...especially after the "Real Me" CD!

You are a wonderful storyteller...I bet you can make a normal boring day seem interesting! Also, glad to know that your father is keeping his humor. As all the people here have stated...we are all sending well wishes his and your way. Cheers :peace

Your dad sounds like a funny guy :) I am glad that us kittens can provide some reading material for him. I started reading the update and after the first few lines i tought this is not too naughty for your dad but that ended very very quickly :blush

Very very nice update! They dont really spend much time together in this update but you can still feel them getting closer and closer. The time they do spend together was sweet and i cant wait to read about the lunch. I will wait ofcourse cuz offline life comes first, again no hurry i will keep busy reading the story again. I will keep this feedback short cuz i have to download the "real Willow" music. I cant wait to hear it because it really gave the story something extra! Very nice :clap

Wow, love their both "little worlds" their minds are in. So sexually frustrated. :D The working at home is such a good thing for Willow. Wonderful update!

I am on vacation for the next two weeks and I can't believe I am going to have to wait that long to read updates. :D But then I think of the fun I'll have catching up when I get back. Talk to ya in a couple of weeks.

Take care,

Anna

Heather,

It's great to see your dad's sense of humor! I'll continue to send good vibes and prayers your (his) way for a speedy recovery. For some reason his first thought being there might be naked pictures of you on the net, just made me :lmao Parents can be so silly.

I love how the girls are finally talking. They are at least beginning to let their conversations start to flow, with less and less agonizing over what they should say. Of course that is leading to some interesting verbal miscues (in their opinion’s probably, but not ours ;) ) The problem they both still have is that they are not truly listening. They’re too busy analyzing what the other has said or done to really hear anything. There are clues everywhere - verbal, nonverbal, actions and reactions - and the whole 'leaning' incident is a indication of their continued over analyzing. This ‘week in the life’ is going to be mind-blowing. I’m so glad we get to see both of their thought processes, verbal blunders, mental guffaws and the double vision naughty dreams/daydreams is especially nice.

As someone else mentioned, it was really nice to see actual ‘Tara dreams.’ You’ve been hinting all along that Tara has been mattress dancing with Willow in her dreams, but we’ve never actually *seen* the visuals. Their subconscious minds are on the same wavelength so it would seem. Tara even admits to openly thinking Willow is sexy, but now she is confronted with the fact that she is also a sexual being, something Willow appears to have assumed about Tara for a pretty long time.

Lunch should be very, very interesting...
