Per Car’s request, here is the next part of RS (I can occasionally be a woman of my word...and the challenge is sitting on top of my next to finish fic list). ~Cyd

Relinquished Symmetry

Disclaimer: Many rich people own BTVS and its characters…I am not one of them.

Rating: R

Author’s Notes: This storyline takes everything up to halfway through New Moon Rising as the gospel. I have made a BIG change that may make some kittens ‘thwack’ me with a shovel…or, more appropriately, a sledgehammer. Also, some of the dynamics of Angel have been altered to suit me. This is an angsty piece.

Addt’l note: A few pieces of dialogue come from the show (This Year’s Girl, NMR, Fear Itself, etc.).

Feedback: Of any sorts…sure. On the board is fine. No posting elsewhere without my consent.

PART 22

Wes opened the basement door quietly, aware that Tara hadn’t been up and about yet. Since it was already into the afternoon and she was usually always the first one awake, he suspected whatever spells she had performed with Willow must have been quite taxing. He hated to bother her but in their line of work, business always seemed to be booming and rarely waited for nap time.

She was sprawled out on the undersized cot looking quite uncomfortable, her feet poking at odd angles off the side. A blanket lay on the floor, kicked off earlier in the toss and turn battle. Her condition certainly sparked his concern for her well-being and he was a little worried about her headfirst cliff jumping attitude where Willow and their mystical connection was involved. Normally she was much more cautious. That, in part with her advanced abilities, is what made her such an excellent witch.

Tara instinctively felt Wes in the room behind her and popped open her eyes half expecting to have to fight or run from whatever demon they were chasing. When he didn’t speak, her mind slowly cranked into gear and reminded her of the details. She turned and sat up, meeting his contemplative face. “How’s the arm?”

He showed her his forearm and flexed gingerly. “Seems okay.”

“What’s up?”

The demon hunter tossed a small plastic bag onto her lap.

“Awww, Wes, you always bring me the sweetest gifts...what is this?”

“Scale fragments taken from my sword. I was hoping you could do a locator spell. I can’t seem to track it with my own. I guess we’ll need something stronger to find an interdimensional demon.”

Tara rotated her head in a semicircle, feeling her neck crackle and pop unappreciatively. “I can’t,” she replied with a sigh.

“You’re too tired?”

“No...well, maybe,” she gave a small grin. “But the real problem is that after I released Willow’s power, we got this intermingled essence problem from an old, botched synchronicity spell. I pretty much can’t work anything without her at the moment.”

“Was this an expected consequence?”

Tara hesitated.

“So you didn’t know what you were doing until after it happened?”

“Willow was hurting,” she replied simply, as if that explained it all. Wesley knew that it did...to her anyways.

“How is she, now?”

Tara pictured Willow’s face...the way she looked last night. It was if the spell woke up a piece of Willow that had been hibernating away all these years. A piece that Tara’s heart recognized instantly.

Wes watched as a toothy half smile appeared on Tara’s face. He didn’t so much need an answer to that question.

“She’s better...she doesn’t need the amulet to protect her now.”

“Good, but...um...you’re going to be a bit more careful from now on, right? From what I recall, dealings with synchronicity spells can be rather intricate.”

“Yes, big brother,” she said lightly with an eye roll before sobering up. She kneaded her hands together to loosen the muscles. “It’s just I know I can trust her...I know she wouldn’t even suggest anything that would hurt me. And I don’t know how to explain it other than that.”

“I get it,” he replied gently. “So, what shall we do now? We can join patrol with Buffy and company tonight. With all of us searching the town, we’re bound to turn some clues to the whereabouts of the Grahal demons.”

“Grahal? That was last night’s creature feature?”

“It originates from another dimension, like the Herotaus.”

“So you’re thinking that someone is conjuring a whole buffet of off world monsters. Question is for what purpose?”

“I’m working on a possible connection to a Sumerian prophesy but my resources are a little limited.”

“I could talk to Willow.”

“So, you’re going to see her today?”

“Yes...um, I don’t know...I thought I might give her a call.”

He took a seat next to her and covered her hand with his own. “Maybe you should.”

She raised an eyebrow. “Why?”

“Because, with all you’ve gone through, I think you deserve to find a little happiness. And I don’t want you to miss your chance.”

“I’ve caused her a lot of pain.” Tara tucked her legs to her chest and gripped them.

“But you can be there to help heal the damage.”

“If she lets me in.”

“You have to let her know you’re waiting on the other side of the door.” When silence followed his advice, he patted her knee and stood up. “I think I’ll tag along with Buffy as she shakes down the demon bars. I’ll call you a few hours before sunset. Get some rest.”

She considered his words, giving him a nod as he left the basement.

“I want to,” Tara whispered as she rested her head against the exposed brick wall.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Willow woke up at a devilishly late hour but she felt wonderful. It had been a solid eight hours of sleep. That was something to celebrate. She hummed an off-key tune as she picked out a robe and went to shower.

What a difference a day makes, she idly thought as she scrubbed her body. She had gotten so accustom to the pattern of her life that she has forgotten the before...and this person who could buzz with excitement and a zest for life.

Seeing the world through Tara’s eyes last night had been exciting...and scary. Willow pressed the spot on her cheek where the blonde with had kissed her gently. And amazing. It made her heart flutter just thinking about it.

So many questions finally had answers. She received some scrap of closure, both physically and mentally, for years of anguish. That was a great gift Tara had given her...it was hard to talk about the past. So often words resuscitated things best left dead. All the horror she had endured so quietly for so long. It hurt Willow to even hear. She could only imagine what it did to her. But Tara knew that was the right thing to do. She only hoped that she could do the right thing when it came to breaking the synch spell.

Willow stepped out of the shower, rampantly running a towel through her wet locks. She tossed on her robe and flopped back onto her bed.

She didn’t know what her life entailed anymore. Gone were the factors that controlled her day to day existence. She no longer had to work a job that let her set her own hours so she could rest when her body called for it.

In fact, while making Scarlet Laboratories a success, she met several clients that offered to buy her business. If she wanted to sell now, she could. She could do anything she wanted. That thought was overwhelming. She was a premium ship out in the middle of the sea with all the resources to go anywhere she wanted. She just didn’t have any idea which way to point the compass. She had no direction because she stopped thinking that way. She had lost her hope to dream for anything else.

All that had changed in a single moment. She had the freedom to choose again, given back to her by a single person.

Tara. Who could bare her soul so honestly. Who took her breath away so effortlessly. Who seemed to enjoy her life. Who might be interested in her...she reached for her cheek again.

How was it possible to harbor so much hate towards someone for so long only to feel it vanish in the blink of an eye?

Perhaps, in this world, there was something stronger than hate.

Still, they were two different people now. She wasn’t sure who Willow was...much less Tara. But getting to know those ‘new’ versions...that might be the best part.

She lifted her head and looked at the clock, feeling the lateness of the day once more.

She didn't get up, though.

Her mind kept going back to Tara.

A bell dinged through the apartment. “Maclay1 requesting clearance for entry,” the security system informed the scientist.

She sat up and looked at her surveillance monitoring. She hadn’t even powered it on - another habitual routine she had forgotten about last night.

“Cerulean...auto-unlock,” she said as she hastily put on her clothes. She scurried to the elevator with her shoes in her hand. She pressed on the button, tapping her bare feet on the hardwood while muttering, “C’mon, c’mon.”

She jammed on her shoes as she rode the lift downward. One of the sandals pinched her small toe in the hurried process. "Damn!"

Tara tensed on alert before changing to with a strange bewilderment as Willow hopped on one foot out of the door when it opened.

“Owie, owie...” Willow’s eyes met Tara’s slightly amused ones.

“Stubbed my toe,” the redhead meekly explained as she noticed the bag of files and other equipment. “What brings you here? Not that you have a reason...but you do?”

“Research.”

“Great...I’m all about the research,” Willow internally rolled her eyes. Well, the spazzy geek is still present, if anything. “What are we looking for?”

“Grahal demons.” She pulled out and shook a bag of red flaky materials. “Maybe a locator spell to track down the demon we ran into last night. Uh...the one we didn’t kill with an effigy of the late mayor.”

Willow nervously smiled. “Red, trying to kill everyone...kinda hard to forget. But we’re stuck unless you have another keen way of scaring the power out of me.”

“I’m really sorry about that...” Tara started.

“No, no...I didn’t mean that like a bad thing...just a wow that was pretty nifty and, well, icky.”

“Yeah,” Tara conceded with a small smile. “Okay...let’s hit the books then.”

Willow scratched her head and mentally readied herself for what she was about to say. “I think there’s something else to talk about first.”

Tara caught the slight shaking of her hands as she clasped and reclasped them. What are you so scared of, Willow?

“To break the synchronicity spell...it’s just that we...that I...” She blew out an irritated breath. Why can’t I get the words out?

“You can tell me anything,” the blonde responded in the long pause.

Willow gained a little strength in the compassionate eyes patiently waiting for her to speak.

“To break the spell...I have to learn to cast magick again.”

I read this whole story a few days ago, and I must say I am impressed. It is heart-wrenching to see Willow so cold. I look forward to seeing how Tara will help Willow heal her heart and how Tara will help Wilow to start letting people back in again.

Cyd~~

Thank you for another fabulous update. And yay for me! It was my decision for this one to be next! :D

I constantly feel like I'm repeating myself in these snippets of feedback...I just love this story. You write so beautifully.

There were so many standout lines to quote in this update, but there is one that stands head and shoulders above the rest:

How was it possible to harbor so much hate towards someone for so long only to feel it vanish in the blink of an eye?

Isn't that the $64,000 question? But, GAWD, that experience is so dead on. Love really is a powerful thing...while we may never forget, and while we may always be on guard, it allows us to forgive...and feel again. (Gee, Carleen, empathize much?)

Again, Cyd, another great update. Can't wait for the next.

Carleen

I'm not going to sigh again, though I did sigh, several times, when I finished reading this update. Man, Cyd, your writing is so sighworthy!

But no, I don't want to be accused of being a lame-o copout, or to have to endure punishments you and Cam think of -- in the minds of such twisted and creative people I fear for my own sanity:P.

There is so much underlying hope in this update. Tara's conversation with Wesley pretty much confirms what she felt in the car on the way back to W's mansion last night.

Tara pictured Willow’s face...the way she looked last night. It was if the spell woke up a piece of Willow that had been hibernating away all these years. A piece that Tara’s heart recognized instantly.

I think the feeling is mutual, only Willow hasn't consciously tapped into it yet, her heart still hidden behind all those years and layers of coldness she built around herself. I giggled at spazzy Willow,
She scurried to the elevator with her shoes in her hand. She pressed on the button, tapping her bare feet on the hardwood while muttering, “C’mon, c’mon.”

:lol I'm thinking this one hasn't come out to play for a while.

As for their synchronicity spell, am I bad for feeling glad when they said:
"I pretty much can’t work anything without her at the moment."

and
"But we’re stuck unless you have another keen way of scaring the power out of me."

because it gives plenty of excuses to spend time together. Will Tara be the one to teach to cast again? Well, who else :P? And the smut bunny in me of course wants the method to breaking the effects of the joint spell, the means of restoring the imbalance in their balance, in other words the solution to their problems and to bring them forward to be ... lots and lots of smoochies and witchy gay love ... I'm thinking hours and days and days non stop. Yeah :drool.

Great update, thanks :clap.

Hey Cyd,
What a wonderfull update. I've been reading this fic, over and over, and there is something in this story, the way you describe Willow and Tara.
All of their insecurity, their past, their sadness, the way they are trying to make it better, but is so complicated to walk on broken hearts...

With each update I go week on my legs, and for a long time the only thing I can think of is awwwwwww.

I love your writing Cyd...

Replies...

The Rose24: Hello and welcome! I'm always happy to get new readers and I'm glad you're enjoying. Thanks for stopping in.

GayNow: Hi Carleen...glad you liked the update. I would feel bad if you were like 'I didn't request an update like this...it sucked...is that a reflection on me?' :P

BTW, I think that's my favorite line from this update too...and, um, you're not the only one who can empathize with its sentiment. Thanks.

watson: Hmm...no twisted and naughty punishment for you THIS time, Watson...although Cam is the person I would call when the phrase 'twisted and naughty punishment' needs some creativity to back it up.

Hope is good...and I love spazzy Willow. Smoochies and witchy gay love? Do I have to even give an opinion for that?

...didn't think so. Thanks.

cebrau: Hi Ceci...Thank you for the beautiful words. I try to write in a way that's layered with lots of things. I think that's why so many Kittens can relate to at least some part of it. I'm glad you like and I'll try to send some more 'awww' your way. :)

Hey Cyd,
This update is so nice partically becuase it's a step down in intensity from those before. I mean what happens: Tara wakes up and Wes is nice and gives her an update. Willow sleeps late and Tara comes over and they visit like normal people (ok, normal people who need to hunt demons and break a 3 year old spell). I love Willow's realization of the way her life is different suddenly. Quite well done.

Loved the update Cyd, though I wish it had gone on longer. It was almost a shock to see Willow being...well, Willow, after 20 or so chapters of her being so NOT Willow, ya know? This line pretty much summed it up:
It was if the spell woke up a piece of Willow that had been hibernating away all these years. A piece that Tara’s heart recognized instantly.
Both of them seem to be...I don't want to say reverting to their old selves, cause that sounds negative...but Tara's insecurity and Willow's spazziness are reminiscent of how they were when they first met, which is fitting, since they need to reestablish their friendship before they can get to the naked sweaty fun. That said...can you get to the naked sweaty fun soon? :flirt

cyd, i'm going with everyone else on this, so nice to see willow rediscovering parts of herself that she'd buried too well to even know to miss them. very much liked willow touching her cheek where tara had kissed it (even if it did make me flash on marcia brady and davey jones, i really am as retro as carleen says i am).
and this was definitely the kind of cliffhanger i like to see, "to fix things we must spend lots and lots of time together, and you won't be able to do much else in the meantime without me either". that's like, the best cliffhanger ever. :) ~mary

I was wondering in the last update what had happened to the second part of the spell to sever their magical connection. Also, I find it strangely poetic that the key to them finding each other is for Willow to learn magic again. Magic brought them together in the first place, it tore them apart, and now it is what will bring them together again.

Loved the update and now want more as usual, but alas I will be out of commission for the next three weeks. I will return in August and I expect to find tons of updates from you, missy :p

I found it interesting that Willow is so hesitantly bringing up her having to cast. I wonder what she's afraid of, hurting Tara ?? They both have to finalize the magical split either way, currently it's holding Tara back as well as Willow (though in different ways).

I like that Willow has a safe home, thats good. Granted some redecorating would be nice, but Tara can help with that :) The nerd in me wonders if 'Cerulean...auto-unlock' is permanent, sounds like it. Willow wants Tara to walk in whenever she feels like :applause :lol

Willow now has the energy back to catch up on life in general. No wonder she feels a little bit lost on the sea of possibilities. She suddenly can do things she thought would never be able to, that must be a good feeling.

I applaude you for writing a story that makes me understand what both Willow and Tara feel. Not an easy thing, esp. not with Tara being the almost-bad person with the spell and such.. (if that made sense:-)

These replies brought to you by the idiots who build houses in the desert without a/c...

JustSkipIt: I'm glad you liked the step down in drama. I thought I'd offset some of the action that has happened in such a short period of time with a breather, so to speak. Thanks so much.

Miss Kittys Ball O Yarn:

Emms...I-I thought you didn't love me anymore and that the story was bad and then the hypno disks broke and I lost my will to update fast and then I wanted to fix them but everytime I watched the staggered swirling it made me think of you and...

But, but now you talking me to me again...so you're still my number one fan, right?

Okay I'm better now (well, relatively speaking).

tarawhipped: They both are, in a way, finding themselves...and there using what they know to do it, unconsciously I suppose. Now, Cam...this naked sweaty fun you speak of...I'm just trying to figure out how to get them to the nude beach to work it out (oh wait...that's for me...nevermind). :P

meretricious: Hi Mary...so you've answered the age old question is there a 'good' cliffhanger...I was wondering about that. Usually I think arggghh how could you leave it THERE? So yay. I am slightly disturbed that I did anything to inadvertently invoke Brady Bunch flashbacks...though I do enjoy the campiness of the show and how retarded Cindy was.

Safuega: Hi hun...

Magic brought them together in the first place, it tore them apart, and now it is what will bring them together again.

It is definitely a factor that revolves around the both of them. We shall see how it plays out. Thanks.

grimlock72: Hey Grimmy...I don't know if I say this enough, but I always appreciate your feedback. I like the way you describe things and I like how you call me on things when they seem muddled. And you're always asking questions...I think that's great. So, I applaud you as well. As for this feedback...'Well said', 'Indeed' and 'Hmm...we'll see' ought to cover it. :)

Well, I have been creatively drained for the last week or so and that is why no updates. But class is over...no more coding...no more papers...I've got a month off. I, however, am making no promises for future updates for RS or Edge. My plans consist of rebuilding a slightly busted laptop given to me, sneaking off to the mountains, and writing until my little heart is content (but not necessarily fics). Hope you'll still tolerate me anyway if the wait here is long.

That was such a feel good chapter. :-D
I love Tara's simple explanation to Wes;
“Willow was hurting,” she replied simply, as if that explained it all. Wesley knew that it did...to her anyways.

And wow Willow, what a fantastic change in her behavoir. Me likes the new Will :-D I wonder what Bella will think when she sees this side of her boss, she may faint. Hee-hee.

I'm a big fan of angst, and this story is a good example of angst done well - it's tempered by love and joy and various other oopy goopy things that make us love WT so much in the first place.
I can't wait to see what direction you take this. Excited for another update...soon? :)

Miss Kittys Ball O Yarn: Yes, blame all delays on Emms...because it's ALL HER FAULT. :P Sweetie...you really don't believe that? *sigh* I just can't blame ya'...I like you too darn much.

Revision: Blame all delays on Cyd.

irishgrl3: Hi Anna...

That was such a feel good chapter.

And wasn't that a surprise? :)

Willow is definitely testing a new set of boundaries with her behavior...we shall see where that takes her. Thanks.

Tarababy77: Hi Aaron! :) I'm so glad you got a chance to catch up...I missed ya. I'm glad you still like where the story is going...thanks so much.

Tujeky:Hi and welcome...

You've come to the right place. I try to mix in other elements as best I can...I think the stories I write usually bank on conflict though.

I tried to work on this last night but my head is stuck elsewhere right now...so while I think Edge can probably get an update or two...I just don't know about here. Things are starting to slowly resolve themselves and I will take a look at this again sometime next week and see what I can do.

Hi folks…I’m rewarding patience with an update tonight. I hope you enjoy. ~Cyd

PART 23

Tara eyed the cover of the book she was barely reading. The sun was far more set than rising in the library but the light was still useable for digging through lines of Latin.

The trouble was that she couldn't concentrate.

Willow had asked the Wiccan to teach her to cast again. Tara replied that she would have to think about it.

It was an evasive answer - the demon hunter could admit to that. It was also honest…and she hadn’t meant it harshly. She just didn’t want to jump right into the important task without any thought.

The redhead had simply nodded and starting working on research. She was upset from the perceived rejection but she wasn’t going to push. Tara respected the level of maturity that took. She also truly did need time to think.

Except it wasn’t about whether she would help the redhead or not…not helping Willow was an impossibility. She just wondered if Wes would be a better mentor. Or if she did try to train her what would she do to help? There were too many big issues and so few answers.

In the first place, Willow’s problems weren’t about learning to cast again. The redhead was the most inherently capable witch Tara had ever met. She hadn’t lost the ability to call upon spells. She had lost all confidence in her ability to use her power. Stable magick doesn’t prosper in that kind of fear.

And Willow certainly feared the prospect of having to cast again. To her, magick had damned her existence. It was everything that represented a loss of control. The blonde glanced at the security cameras and monitors positioned around the desk before idly scanning the book titles neatly arranged on the shelf closest to her chair.

Control.

It seemed Willow’s life revolved around this notion to an extremity. Her fortress, while certainly designed for protection for her situation, also seemed built so she could have the maximum amount of choice in manipulating her environment.

Cutting off her friends and hiring them as employees…the same notion could be inferred in those actions. She contained the power over her relationships. She saw them on her terms. She had the control.

It was overcompensation on a scale of enormity.

Perhaps her fear of casting was a control issue as well. Magick, even the natural order of the world itself, was not something that could be fully willed by one person’s hands – no matter who that person might be. It was a force to be tapped into and used in the way that it flows.

She tilted the chair back lightly against the wall so she could peer at the ceiling and calm her mind.

Something that also struck her was how Willow thought herself so weak. Felt that she had no control. That she had so little worth.

Tara bit her lip and tried to clear away how upsetting it was to see these traits in one she loved so much. Life had damaged her in many ways…emotionally, physically, and mentally.

The blonde didn’t know how to bring her to terms with that. Or if she should be the one to try. After all, there was only one person who could ultimately set Willow’s own self-worth.

Tara looked across the room at the object of her thoughts. She was sitting on the floor indian style, knee deep in a stack of papers. The corner of Tara's mouth turned up slightly at the sight. The redhead was as studious as ever, biting the end of her pen as she feverishly scribbled notes and turned pages. Sunlight painted delicate areas of light and shadow on her face as she shifted around.

The demon fighter only meant to glance for a moment. A second even. It wasn’t until she heard her heart pounding in its confines that she realized how long she had been staring.

She could feel something between them, even with their combined issues...or perhaps in spite of them. There was a spark.

No, it wasn’t the same innocent dance they shared the first time they fell in love. But something was there just the same…not defeated by time or perception or any sort of malice. It was just as she remembered. It was unlike anything she had ever felt before. It was a spark.

Her mind turned everything over one last time and she nodded internally. She knew what she had to do. It had never really been a question anyway. She had just needed a little confirmation inside.

Her feet propelled her five steps from the chair to the dark burgundy curtains and she closed them completely. The reading light disappeared as the room went pitch dark.

“What are you doing?” Willow questioned, squinting as her eyes tried to adjust.

Tara moved another fourteen steps to get behind the redhead. “Close your eyes and picture the night,” she directed.

“What?” Willow asked as she half turned around.

She took one long calming breath. “You wanted lessons. I’m gonna show you why you don’t need any.” She laid a hand on Willow’s shoulder and shifted her back forward. She then removed her hands and placed them behind her back.

“Close your eyes and picture the night,” she again asked in a whisper as she kneeled, just slightly off center of Willow’s spine. This put her lips a respectable distance away from one of the redhead’s cute ears.

Willow’s eyes shut tight, half curious and half eager to comply.

“Do you see the night?”

“Yes.”

“Are there stars?”

“Lots.”

“Good. Picture the color and how they’re arranged but don’t tell me.”

“Okay.”

Tara didn’t know how she had slipped forward slightly during that short exchange. Or how she was able to remember the way Willow’s skin tasted…but it lingered perfectly in her mouth nevertheless. She licked her lips, savoring the phantom flavor for all it was worth. When she sighed deeply as the taste passed over her, she caught the scent of the redhead’s strawberry shampoo. She was powerless to do anything but move nearer still.

Her respectable distance was now all but gone, but they still were not quite touching. “Are they close…so close that you can reach out and grab them?” she asked, her voice lowering an octave.

She heard a gulp before the reply. “Yeah, I see them.”

“Show them to me.”

“H-how?” Willow asked, tensing slightly.

“Relax. You already know how. It’s dark outside…just bring the light.”

“You mean Tinkerbell?”

“Yes.”

“I don’t know if I can.”

Tara placed a hand on her shoulder and slid it down her cloth encased arm. She covered her hand. “You can do this because you’re an amazing witch…an amazing woman.”

The blonde felt one long shiver run through the lithe body in front of her before somehow making its way to her own. The pulse shared between them was magical but had nothing to do with the spell.

“Show me your stars,” she asked as she squeezed the hand under hers.

The room went ablaze with hundreds of tiny green lights. The walls, ceiling, and floor were twinkling fantastically.

Tara’s smile was the only thing brighter in the room.

“Open your eyes Will.”

Two green eyes peeked cautiously out from under their lids before stretching wide and surprised. “Wow. This is beautiful. How did you do this?” the scientist questioned as her head turned in all directions to take in the display.

“This is all you. This is what you can do.” She lightly stroked the palm under her fingertips.

“This is your light.”

They were silent for a minute, reveling in the glow, before a small voice asked, “Can it be our light?”

She can feel it too. She can feel our spark. It was the only thought in Tara’s mind as she sent a flurry of blue lights to create their night sky.

Willow’s warm body then leaned back into her own. Tara moved her other arm around the newly positioned waist in front of her as Willow’s other hand circled around and rested on her knee. The demon hunter tilted her head forward, placing her temple on the top of an offered shoulder.

The tiny blue and green stars danced to some music only they could hear. They swirled, twinkled, and fluttered in a parade of color. The movements were vivid and strong, seemingly content to stay in motion for an eternity.

The two creators of that sky sat below. No words were uttered while hands and feet were like boulders, seemingly content to stay rooted to their chosen spots for an eternity.

Hey there!

You know...I don't think I ever left fb here, but I enjoy this story very much. It's soo amazing. You can feel everything.....the agony.... the relief.... love... hate....(well hate is a strong word...but still)....absolutly amazing.

This last update....god...that was so (here it comes again ;) ) amazing. :grin And I liked how you made Tara think instead of jumping into decision. Very RL-y (is that even a word? nope...) And last 3 paragraphs....just... magical :)

Thank you!

Cyd.....what can I say about this update that I have not said over and over again about previous updates... *swoon*

I loved the way they started out in thier own little "thought-worlds" thinking about eachother but not speaking....and then you did what you do and brought them together in this intense, erotic, melting of caressing palms and whispering lips. And of course there was the beautiful image of tinkerbell lights (which was wonderful because it was so simple. And how fitting that Tara would chose to connect with Willow, using something that had already marked a point of happiness in their lives. Almost as if Tara is trying to tell Willow how she really feels about her through the rememberance of the tinkerbell spell. )

It was so intense when Tara turned out the light and Willow didn't know what was going on, but she gave up control and let Tara take the lead. That took an awful lot of trust on Willow's part, which is odd, because she has spent the past years in a constant state of distrust...not just about Tara, but about her friends as well.

And it was sweet when Willow asked if it could be their light. Tara accepted this request without argument and they settled into the moment so beautifuly with Tara's head on Willow's shoulder with their only illumination, a show of magic they created together. Willow was right, they had created it together, because it was Tara that was able to bring the magic out of Willow.

Yay! An Update!! (I should have said that at the beginning. ) :blush

Excellent, excellent! They're inching towards each other, and seem to be feeling very comfortable in each other's company.

Tara's analysis and realization that
not helping Willow was an impossibility

The way she brought Willow's magic back, and to have Willow show her what's in her imagination, wow, that was beautiful. The spark they share, is there any doubt that the spark won't still be there? It was heartwarming to see them come together, it's a big awww moment for me. One mild complaint though ... why were there no kisses??? Head on shoulder is so lame! okay, stupid moment over, it was sweet, not lame. :lol

Welcome back, Cyd's brain.

Cyd:

You're back.!! You're back!! wooohoooo!!! And you updated RS!!! Yay!!! :bounce :applause. Sorry, as a Scorpio I'm not prone to outbursts like these, but it's great to see you are back, Cyd. Hope the move and settling in went well. :blush

Oh Cyd, your writing is always so beautiful that at times it makes me want to weep. This update was absolutely lovely and perfect. I must admit that I did not expect Tara to refuse to teach Willow initially and my heart ached a little as I read that, but then Tara realizes that Willow's life has been so chaotic that asking for help, her help, is Willow's way of relinquishing some of that control.

I really liked your use of Tinkerbell as the 'guide' and the light leading the way out of the shadows. Once upon a time Willow was lost in the woods and it was Tara's Tinkerbell who showed her the way. Now Tara has asked Willow to create her own Tinkerbell to lead herself out of the emotional woods. I also liked Tara adding her own light, which seemed to indicate that Tara understood that this struggle was Willow's alone, but Tara was willing to help her along.

Also, how mature of Tara to take a step back and think about what was being requested of her, and how mature of Willow to accept Tara's initial refusal. I've told you before how much I like your mature Willow and Tara but you continue to astound me with your W/T characterizations in different situations. Brava.

Finally, these were some of my favorite words, phrases, and your reversals:

Life had damaged her in many ways…emotionally, physically, and mentally.

How amazing is it that it is Tara who is thinking this about Willow. Tara, who has been just as damaged in all those very same ways, but has somehow managed to overcome those very issues. It is Tara who found her own way and who contrary to canon is now called on to help Willow 'find' herself. This shows how Tara despite her past was always a bit stronger than Willow, wasn't she?

No, it wasn’t the same innocent dance they shared the first time they fell in love.

No, it isn't but it is wonderful that she can recognize the differences and appreciate the fact that despite all the pain they have caused each other there is a spark.

It was unlike anything she had ever felt before. It was a spark.

I don't know how but you have made the word spark beautiful in this update. If you'd had used the word hope, I'm not sure that I'd be feeling so overcome. I guess I am responding to the fire/light imagery as contrasted with the dark/shadows. The only other use of the word spark that captured my imagination and I found beautiful was Spike's description of his soul as a spark.

It’s dark outside…just bring the light.”

I loved this phrase and this next bit is just too beautiful.

Cyd, when I grow up I want to write like you. I'm at a loss for words to describe just how amazing this last update was. :clap :bow

Hmm.. .most of the 'awww' and 'how cute' is done already :) All my fav. quotes from this chapter have also already been mentioned, so it seems most people agree with me on those :lol.

Willow is missing (self-)confidence and trust most of all. The last time she trusted somebody didn't end to well after all, which her subconcieus still remembers. Her analytical mind now knows that the need to prevent further 'damage' is gone, but her sub-concious will take a while longer I think.

Tara concluded correctly that Willow didn't need to be taught magic as much as trusting herself (Willow) again. If Willow had needed a magic tutor, Wes might have been better initially due to LOTS of issues still between W/T.

I do wonder however WHAT Willow was reading. She probably knows what magicy stuff needs to be done. It's just that she is/was to afraid to actually do it. Books can't fix that in this case.

Now when does Willow go outside and actually enjoy herself and her new found life? Girl has plenty of catching up to do, so many things to try...

cyd, another very sweet update, looks as though you have yet to unpack your suitcase of angst, but i'm sure it's around there somewhere. enjoyed tara's thought process here, i think i would've expected her to immediately agree to help willow, but then be unsure of how to go about it. like this much more, with her going all action tara as soon as she makes up her mind.
i hadn't given much thought before to the concept that willow had turned her friends into employees, that's very sad. even if tara might truly think someone else would be better suited to help willow, tara's the only one willow would ever let close enough to try, at least at this point.
so many lovely turns of phrase here, in particular the "innocent dance" and "phantom flavor". and of course, "show me your stars", really cyd, does poetry just spill out of you all the time? ~ mary

Hey, very good update. I like your very clear and detailed descriptions. You do a very good job of bringing the reader into your world without using a lot of words to do it. It's not like you're going "she was sitting on a blue rug. It was very bright blue with fuzzy thingies on the edges." It's just that your entire writing structure makes everything present for the reader. I very much liked this
Tara looked across the room at the object of her thoughts.
Because I think it gives a very sucinct description of Willow which is both typical according to cannon and fic and is fond. Your description of Tara's watching the redhead really lets us see how adorable and loveable she is to Tara.

The twinkle lights are wonderful and I really like your depiction of their connection. It seems that they are very aware of that connection and neither is pushing it. Well done.

The reply thing…

YMKA: Hi-ya...I like amazing. It works for me. :)

And I liked how you made Tara think instead of jumping into decision.

I thought they had both been doing the jump to decision thing a lot lately. I decided to take it slightly in the other direction. I'm glad you're enjoying. Thanks for stopping by.

Miss Kittys Ball O Yarn: Yay! It's my very favorite Emms (okay, so I don't know anyone else I call Emms...but don't hold that against me...you'd still be the best).

That took an awful lot of trust on Willow's part, which is odd, because she has spent the past years in a constant state of distrust...not just about Tara, but about her friends as well.

True, but I think Tara's actions, since they've met up again, warrant some measure of trust. Add that to the undeniably soft spot Willow has for her and it makes for an avenue for that to blossom. Thanks, as usual...it's a pleasure.

cebrau: Hi Ceci...

Can I just say awwwwwww and never think of any word again?

Absolutely, in fact, I promote and endorse all forms of happy noises.

Hmm...that sounds a little naughtier than I meant. :P

Thanks so much for the feedback.

watson: Hi-ya watty...its nice to have the nonfuzzy brain clicking again. I'm hitting the checklist now...

Comfortableness - check

Spark - check

Lame non kiss...

Oh, well...two outta three s'not bad. :P

The kissing request should be met in an approaching update though. Can I get half credit for good intentions?

Tonto: I'm glad you liked. Well, let's see...feedback wise for this update that's two for amazing and three for sweet...y'all are killing my rep. :)

Safuega: Hi-ya...the outburst was bubbly and I enjoyed it because as a Pisces I love making other people happy. I haven't moved back home yet, I've been dealing with personal issues and I've been in no shape to write. Things are mostly better now, a tad earlier than I expected, so I figured I get to writing before I went on my way.

Onto your thoughts...

Tara realizes that Willow's life has been so chaotic that asking for help, her help, is Willow's way of relinquishing some of that control.

Yes dear...and well put. I should've connected the dots in the progression of logic with a line to that effect but I'm glad it came through anyway. :)

As far as the tinkerbell spell goes, I was just ad libbing canon (albeit canon that did not happen in fic timeline).

Yes, I think so. After all, there is strength in her actions...the ability to give and feel compassion to the ones around her even when her own life has been very difficult is a special trait.

I'm at a loss for words to describe just how amazing this last update was.

No you're not hun. You gave me far more beautiful words than I deserve but I am entirely grateful nonetheless.

grimlock72:

Willow is missing (self-)confidence and trust most of all. The last time she trusted somebody didn't end to well after all, which her subconscious still remembers.

These are wonderful observations and certainly what I was going for Willow's character. The biggest obstacle in her path is within herself...not magick or Tara or anything else. Thanks so much Grimmy.

The Rose24: Redundancy is okay for feedback...especially when you say you liked the update. Nice things can never be said too many times. Just let me know if I go senile and start repeating myself in the story. That is not so good. :)

meretricious: Hi-ya Mary dear...

i hadn't given much thought before to the concept that willow had turned her friends into employees, that's very sad

It is sad...though I don't think Willow feels that way about it. She cares for them a great deal but I don't think she understands that the way she treats them reflects more of an employee type attitude.

even if tara might truly think someone else would be better suited to help willow, tara's the only one willow would ever let close enough to try, at least at this point

Absolutely...Willow has opened that door to her. I don't think the same could be said if she tried to get Wes to help out.

does poetry just spill out of you all the time?

The imagery that provokes makes me giggle because I see lots of white ruffled shirts for some reason. To answer your question...I can only be called anything remotely poetic when I write.

And the romantic in me would like to object to that comment but she is currently being beat up by the hardened cynic.

JustSkipIt: Hi-ya Elvis...

I like your very clear and detailed descriptions. You do a very good job of bringing the reader into your world without using a lot of words to do it.

Aww thanks...I'm a get to the point kind of person I guess. I sometimes think I don't always capture what I see in my head as well as I could and maybe that is due to the brevity in my style of writing. But I'm always working at it to find a balance. Thanks so much.

Well, I am homebound tomorrow. It'll prob be a few days before I get settled. I almost have an Edge update done...hopefully I can finish it in a hotel in Nebraska. Cuz what the hell else am I gonna do there? :)
