The Vampire Diaries

Postby Hemiola » Sat Jun 13, 2009 6:56 am

Oh my, it looks like the CW is coming up with a new vamp series in the Fall called "The Vampire Diaries". From the previews that they are showing, it looks like it's going to be modeled after the inexplicably popular "Twilight" series (the leads even look like the stars of the movie) .

Ugh, I don't hold out much hope for the quality of this. :(

Yes the guy does look like the guy in Twilight I agree. I havent read all the books yet I have read the first two in the first volume and will be on my way through the other ones soon but yes I do agree that it looks like it will be simmilar to Twilight but the books do have some differences that are not twilight related. I think what will happen though is that any vampire themed thing is going to cash in on the "twi-mania" despite the "quality" or not in some cases of it because of such a big Twilight phenonenon anything else is going to be compated to it and over hyped up just because of the vampires craze at the moment. I love anything to do with vampires though so will keep an open mind.

Like you, SSL, I have an interest in "all things vampire", which is why I took the trouble to watch the first couple of episodes of the series.

Basically, it confirmed my worst fears. Starting with the awful "rock score" used as background music, and the utterly second class acting and poor writing, the show really has no appeal for me. Of course "tween" girls will probably love the "good" vampire Stefan, a handsome young man who always looks dark and "troubled". There is little or no reference to vampiric activities or any other supernatural doings.

Compare this to BtVS or True Blood--in both cases I was hooked from the very first episode. I have already given up on this.

What annoyes me is that people think that The Vampire Diares is a rip-off of Twilight, when it's the other way around. TVD was written in 1991 and Twilight was written in 2005. And I'm seriously starting to think that Twilight really is a rip-off!
I'm amazed by all the similarities. I recently bought the first TVD book because I saw that they were making a TV show of it. I have just started reading it, and already it's like reading Twilight. But I don't really care that much because I love vampires and the supernatural. So I'm still gonna watch TVD, and I love Twilight. I'm just glad it's not a Buffy rip-off, cuz then I would have a big problem with it :P You just don't mess with Whedon.

I pretty much agree with you on this one Hem, although I kind of like the score, someone with good ears put that together imho. Certainly a lot less daring than the True Blood soundtrack. but that's hardly surprising. I am probably going to watch the show for a bit longer to see if it picks up speed but right now it looks like a show I can do without easily.

I hate to admit it, but I am actually enjoying this show.

Bianca Lawson(Kendra) guest stars on last week's episode as an ancestor of witch, Bonnie, who is just now coming into her powers. I have a feeling we have not seen the last of Emily(Lawson's character).
Tara: Willow, I got so lost.
Willow: I found you. I will always find you.

Hey, does someone still watch this show??

I think that vampire diaries, wasnt so good at first, but I started to like it. I guess not all of us like the music they use ;) But I love it.
I think this is nothing like Buffy, but come one, we will not find something like buffy, never again. I dont think there will be something as good as it. We cant compare.
I dont think Stefan pretty at all. Ok I know Im lesbian, but I still can say if a boy is hot or not. I dont think he is =S.

The books, were cool till the number five, I couldnt finish it because I didnt understand what the hell the writter wanted to do or where she wanted to go with the story :S it got me upset and I stopped reading them.
