Meanwhile, http://www.BarnabasUndead.com is reporting that they have heard that the Frog will likely pass on the DARK SHADOWS pilot.
Ah well, easy come easy go. I was having doubts about seeing the WB's version of "Dark Shadows" in any case. I certainly don't want to see "Dawson's Creek" with vampires. Been there done that. Considering that their last few genre shows have not down well, I'm not suprised to see the WB just do teen/family shows. Both "Everwood" and "One Tree Hill" succeeded where "Birds of Prey" and "Tarzan" failed.

By far the worst news in the article as far as I am concerned is that Aly's pilot has not tested well:cry

And I was really hoping, given the loss of "Friends" and "Frasier" et. al., that they'd be willing to give it a chance...:( :( :(

Dark Shadows may not be dead yet:

WB trying to age gracefully

In the Shadows

The WB's shift in emphasis came too late for the latest reincarnation of Dark Shadows.

...

Ancier and John Wells, the ER/West Wing executive producer who made the Dark Shadows pilot, have different takes on what happened. "It was wonderfully produced and very well-written," Ancier said. "It just didn't quite gel the way we hoped."

The problem, Wells said, was the network wanted to WB-ize the concept. "We liked it and they didn't. They wanted young and pretty. ... Barnabas was never a handsome leading man. He was a 215-year-old with bad skin. They wanted more Interview With a Vampire. We wanted Dark Shadows."

The idea is dead at the WB, Wells said, but this hasn't driven a stake through its heart. "We are going to take a step back and see what we're going to do. We might take it somewhere else."
Now I am really glad it didn't get on the WB. Who wants the Dawson's Creek version of "Dark Shadows"? We already got that with the show that shall not be named.

I am glad to hear that, I am glad they didn't compromise.

Well in light of that information I am glad it won't be on the WB afterall.

Yeah I think there was a Dawson's Creek with Vampires once, got canceled due to really bad ratings if I recall.

Besides, a show like this would do better on a cable channel like FX (which is killing with 'Nip/Tuck' and 'The Shield') or even SciFi.

Ah artictic integrity. How far it is for some folks. Fangoria has some pictures from the pilot. uly 20: Exclusive DARK SHADOWS pilot photos & interview

For one the vampire actually look like a vamp and not a hormonal teenager. I was having doubts earlier in this thread but now I'm sure that the show would have been crappy on the WB. For one the makeup artist was fomr that other show that shall not be named or Dawson's Creek with vamps. Judging from the bad make up seen there at the end, my expectations for the WB version sink lower.

Big Finish, who release monthly Doctor Who audio stories on CD and were involved with Amber and Chris Golden's Embers, are making a series of Dark Shadows audios with some of the original cast. They're going to be making an official announcement soon.

I'm not familiar with Dark Shadows but I might try out the first CD.
