oh.my.god. i can't believe this latest episode.
i was really shocked by paula's violence... i mean, i certain expected fire and brimstone, but hair pulling and shoving of a minor? damn! it was a little upsetting to watch.
and the pass the potatoes line was awesome.

i agree with all of the points made by you and your fellow poster, lucian. while its great to have these young lesbian characters on tv, its somewhat insulting to see this clearly intentional "sanitization" of their relationship, particularly when there is no similar treatment of the straight couples. one can only hope the network will get a little less nervous as time goes on - maybe we'll see a little ass grab before the girls graduate from college?? ;)

and the websiode was completely adorable. finally, no aidan!! he is seriously creeping me out now. but the websiode was great... from the blowing on the nails (cute), to ashley mouthing i love you (though i prefer the w/t version), to the way spencer whispered "right here" about the tattoo (swoon) it was totally worth the weeks of creepy aiden webisodes.

Great news!

The N's South of Nowhere Reaches a New Zenith:
Based on national ratings for Friday, Nov. 17, original series South of Nowhere on The N hit a series-high among teens, with a 2.16 rating at 8:30 p.m. Comparably, season to-date teen ratings for South of Nowhere are up by 35 percent from one year earlier. (Mediaweek's Programming Insider)

I am a HUGE fan of SON, you don't EVEN know. AHHHH

Ashley's really freaking hot :)

Yay for teenage lesbian melodrama.

It's surprising how many people this show's touched though.

It's really nice to see the effect it's had on people.

I JUST started watching this. I saw a music video that had clips from the show so I decided I'd eventually find time to download it and watch it. (I dont get the channel and its not aired on any other station that I can see.)

So, in the past week, I have downloaded and watched all of season one, and almost all of two. I LOVE it. Okay, honestly its not THAT great quality/plot wise. But it's sweet and cute and I like how they deal with a variety of issues that allow almost everyone to find SOME way to relate.

I'm at college now. All I wanna do is watch the rest that I have on my laptop. WHY didnt I bring ittttttttttttttttttt? :(

i just watched the finale and am totally indignant. i know i directed a lot of rage towards aiden this past season, for always being around and never letting the girls do their lesbo-thing, but now i have a whole range of people and characters to be pissed at. a couple:
first of all, ashley was pissing me off all season with her hot & cold treatment of spencer, the sneaking around with aiden, and her general unpleasantness. i could not fathom why spencer was so sprung. she's clearly got some kind of interest in aiden, and a total lack of disregard for her girlfriends feelings. man, i hope little spencer gets a hot little girlfriend next season who actually LIKES dating her. geez.

secondly, the aforementioned man-whore for being, well, an unscrupulous man-whore. he not only fucked with his friend spencer by making a move on her chick, let's not forget that he has a girlfriend TOO and is making a move on that girlfriends freakin' sister. ugh. i hope he gets ebola. or the clap. or worse yet, a beer belly or something.

finally, i'm pissed at the shows creators and writers for the blatant "sanitzation", for lack of a better word, of the girls relationship. this episode, with the shirt stripping "let's get it on" between aiden and kyla most perfectly emphasized the way that the show has intentionally treated the girls relationship as less than equal. they have virtually no physicality between them unlike the other hornball, groping couples on the show. if the chaste kisses and BFF-ness of them wasn't bad enough, as far as we know they've had sex all of one time. their relationship was hotter when it was all innuendo and flirtation. they don't even get any of that now.
i've just really had it with the show. if things don't change for the better at the beginning of next season (i read on afterellen.com that the creator, thomas lynch, was very aware of the criticism), i'm totally done. i don't care how cute that spencer is. i'm old and have my pride ;)

I didn't even watch the finale, I read about what happens and I am done with this lame show. It started going downhill right from the start of the second season and only got worse as time went on. For all the reasons kisstheviolets mentioned and the fact that, for me, Spashley is ruined, since I hate Ashley now. I couldn't care less what happens next.

I won't waste one more second on this stupid show. I deleted all the SoN videos I had on my computer. I'm now SoN free!

This show's getting too boring... I'm really tired of watching the adventures of boring shirtless Aiden... and I'm starting to hate Ashley too... I hope next season they do a better job writting....otherwise I don't think I'll be watching it...

They had a great show and by that I mean amusing and cute. Ashley and spencer were so cute. The show was never "good" for that it would have to be high quality. It never was, but it was what it was and I enjoyed it. However, they destroyed it all this season.

It was crappy, it sucked. Unwatchable. It turned into the manwhore show and really, he's not that interesting.

Everything you said kisstheviolets, that's where I am with this show. Disgusted. Something big would have to change for me to watch next season and... I don't think I'll find the couple cute again. The only way I'd watch is if Spencer got a gf who was allowed to kiss her and who appreciated spencer. I don't think it's going to happen.

Add me to the list of people not pleased with the show.

Where do I even start with Aiden? I got so tired of seeing him butting in between them either by his own power or by Ashley's doing that I could scream.

I was fine with the storyline with the girls up until the increased Aiden screentime that was heading nowhere good. I liked the cuteness of their relationship (although calling your girlfriend your best friend is beyond me...) and I even liked how Ashley asked Spencer to prom. It was all cute, and given their age on the show, I can forgive the lack of physicality to some degree... although they should treat the other couples in the same light...

And Ashley.... I really liked Ashley. I had high hopes for her... if anything I thought maybe another woman could have split them up (one of Ashley's many ex-s, for example ... but Aiden?! Yuck.

I really felt sorry for Spencer.... I had something blow up in my face surrounding a school dance before and it sticks with you for ages. Mine was not even surrounding someone I loved like Spencer does with Ashley.

I also don't appreicate the double cliffhanger. I think that one of the only reasons I might watch the 1st episode of S3 would be to see the outcome of the season finale. If they break up Spencer and Ashley for Ashley/Aiden, won't be watching any more. Spashley was the only reason that I watched the show.

And that was probably a lot more than you wanted, but there it is.

I have to agree with the majority opinion on this season of SON, I've been an ardent fan since the first season and have eagerly downloaded each episode as it aired this season and have grown increasingly disappointed with each passing episode.

SON had the potential to be awesome this season, there was a fantastic coming out storyline with Spashley with promises of angst but also teenage lesbian romance in spades...sadly, there was very little romance and the angst that was delivered could have been written with so much more flair and enthusiasm (speaking as a keen fan of writing angst myself!).

I don't agreed with creator, Thomas Lynch's excuse for the lack of smoochies between the girls this season, any audience that would be put off by prolonged and heavier lesbo-lip-locking would not be watching the show in the first instance...Mr Lynch needs to face up to the real risk that his show's main audience will stop watching if things don't get a little more realistic. I can't begin to explain how cheated I felt everytime Manwhore and Kyla (or whatever other random hetero couple) engaged in a passionate smooch while Spencer and Ashley pecked each other on the lips or enjoyed a friendly (and passionless) hug. Yay for having a central lesbian storyline but what message is this sort of inequality putting out there for young teens.

Anyway, I could waffle on for days with my annoyance, I'll keep giving SON a chance, the show still deserves to be supported (although I'm sure I have my limits). The violent ending was uncalled for and completely unrelated to the key storylines of the season and Aiden should just fuck off and stick to his punching bag, I can't believe Ashley needs to even think two seconds about who she wants to be with.

I suppose I'll have to make do with watching the L word for the next few months...and I'm so incredibly excited about that *insert sarcastic tones here*

*Sighs* Okay, so I'm pretty much ashamed to admit this...but I'm STILL watching (against my better judgement) in hopes that maybe, just maybe, they can turn this puppy back into the show we all knew and loved. So, with that in mind, does anyone know when the new season starts up? I've been checking at the-n.com, and haven't been able to find the starting date. Thanks in advance.

saw this link on afterellen... http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news.aspx?id=20070216n01

looks like my little guilty pleasure has been renewed for a third season. i really hope tom lynch and co. take some of the criticism to heart and quit with the glaring inequalities.

so do we think they'll have clay be the one felled by the drive-by since the homophobic actor is leaving the show? i say good riddance.

I say good ridance to Danso Gordon too, makes you wonder why he did the show at all if he felt so strongly about what is essentially the main crux of the show.

But yay for SON being renewed anyway, the girls are cute, regardless of the problems this show has with its writing.

Wow the new season is awesome. Ashley seriously needs a slap or something for being stupid with Aiden (that's not the way to get your girl back) but Spencer is so much stronger this season already. I love it.

Watched this last night as well. I agree with the OMG and the thud and I raise you another thud at the Spashley makeout. The whole scene at the end of the first episode almost made me cry- and I don't do that very frequently. It's just something about those two (played by Gabby and Mandy) that just pulled at me.

I'm very pleased with the first two eps of the season (I'm not going to remember anything with he-who-I-refuse-to-name because he is a real piece of work and Ashley clearly feels nothing for him which is ecxpressly clear with her words and actions towards him). Reallly looking forward to the season now, contrary to my views at the end of last season.

Sooo-what did everyone think of the newest ep. Hmmm-does Spencer have a thing for 'bad girls' or do they have a thing for her? Just from what I saw last night I think like Spencer's new love interest. Ashley definitely has an 'out of sight, out of mind' attitude and it is annoying to me so until Ashley gets a clue-I'm happy for Spencer. I missed the previous two eps-was the new girl introduced in one of those eps or was last night her first appearance?

Last night was her first appearance. I like her! She's spunky, and although her acting ability seems to range around Mandy Musgrave's level, I still like her character a bit more. I'm major hating on Ashley at the moment -- her character's decreased in maturity since the start of the series.

I don't mind her because Ashley needs bitch slapping still. I think Spencer likes the dark hair etc, not so much the bad just the high confidence is probably attractive to her. Although with Carmen it must be nice for her to have someone interested in her. I thought it wasn't a bad episode and I even liked Glen a little more.

I really, really like Bangs after what I've seen in this week's episode and the Sneak Peak of episode 5 (which has to be the cutest sneak peak ever!!!) She and Spencer seem really cute together which is why I'm incredibly disturbed by the promo for episode 5, I won't say too much because I can't be bothered putting in spoiler tags but I'll just say it all seems to be happening a little bit too fast!

There's still that little voice at the back of my head that keeps saying Ashley will come to her senses and back to Spencer, and I guess in the long run that's what I want to see. Still, great season so far eh!

wtf?!? that's about all i can say about the train-wreck of bad writing that was "spangs". there was a lot of potential there for them to showcase spencer outside of her relationship with ashley and have a little fun with a new spunky character, but instead they turned it into a badly done two-scene afterschool special (the push and the weird "i'm sorry and i'm moving away today" thing the following episode). i just don't get it.

and i was happy to see ash and spence actually be in the same room together tonight, but that touching they did towards the end of the scene was totally weird and awkward (the hand on the arm and in ash's hair thing). right? why can't they just be fighting crime (which is the lamest thing i think i've ever heard) like aiden and madison? oh well, a girl can dream.

anybody watching the "we're getting nowhere" vlog on afterellen? that shit is hysterical.

So i decided to get out of lurking land to throw in my two cents on the subejct.

It's a shame they decided to throw away the spangs storyline in such an idiotic way. I mean Bangs went from being this cute bad girl with a soft heart to a gang member who beats up on her girlfriend... And that happened in the really long span of three episodes?? I mean come on, they were just barely inside the honeymoon period. And Ashley could use the competition to see if she wakes up and stops acting like a self centered brat.

On a different note, yeah kisstheviolets i too am watching the "we're getting nowhere" vlog on after ellen. And yeah it's one of the most entertaining things I've watched lately :D I'd dare say it's better than the show.

Edited because i can never get the damn spelling all right on my first try :blush

Well, in light on last night's wonderful episode, I thought this thread needed some love.

Gabrielle rocked even more so than usual last night. The whole Spencer/Pauala scene was so emotional and powerful and just wonderful. Loved everything about it and it was definitely needed. Spencer stood there on her own without depending on anyone else's support and flat out told her mom that she was gay and that it wasn't going to change. Go Spencer!

i don't know why, but I find this hilarious lol It doesn't bother me as the splashley relationship was crap, the show was waaay over the top dramatic and cheesy. They SHOULD be canceling half the crap on the N. Or make it disapear in general so us 20+ year old don't feel like creepy pedos while watching.
