Well I just saw "Erin Brokovich" and I really loved it. Albert Finney was really great and I do like Julia Roberts, horrible mistakes like My Best Friends Wedding and Runaway Bride aside. I think she is really good playing a loud mouthed slightly ill tempered smart woman, like she did in Mystic Pizza as well. I loved that movie also, it wasn't about anything really, but it was just such a nice film.

Anyone seen Real Women Have Curves?

I saw it recently and it's definitely on my list now. It's exactly the kind of film I love most: small, independent, somewhere between a comedy and a drama, just sort of a snapshot of a bit of someone's life, etc.

And...Lord, the stripping scene in the factory is hilarious. Just perfect. Priceless.

I've just been to see x-men 2 and I have to agree. It is a much better film. :dance

Though why do they never use Jean Grey's Superhero name - Marvel Girl?

It was a much better movie than the first and continued the story well. With the wealth of material they have lets hope the next installment will be just as good since a third installment has to be almost certain.

BB:Hello Xander...and Anya, how is your money?!

Now, someone else correct me if i say something wrong, but she was Marvel Girl at the beginning of the x-men comic run, but her name has evolved over the years. I think she was the phoenix for awhile, but when I started collecting the comics in high school (and i don't anymore :( too much money), she was just Jean Grey.

I just saw X-Men 2 this evening. I only saw the first one last week but I'm now completely and totally obsessed. I'm watching and I'm like 'oh, he's my favorite! no, now she is! oh, I can't decide!' I think by the time it ended Nightcrawler was my fave. He had some of the best scenes I think. The 'I pity them' scene with Storm, and the 'we shouldn't have to' scene with Nightcrawler ... I was the dork in the middle of the theater going 'whoo, got something in my eye, must be some popcorn dust floating around.' Yeah, so I'm a little overly sensitive while watching movies.

Just watched the second x-men movie as well and I really enjoyed it. Way better than the first in all respects and the new characters introduced just rocked. Oh and Rogue is my favorite x-men character :)

Plus the Matrix Reloaded trailer was awesome, only a week to go.

It's good to hear that X2 is better than the original. Still sort of a guilty pleasure, though. Bring It On probably tops my guilty pleasure list though...

A Bug's Life

Postby Kalita » Sun May 04, 2003 6:55 pm

My cousin's an animation nut, he's got a pretty hefty collection on his DVD shelf. He recently loaned me, among others, A Bug's Life.

I hadn't seen that one since it was in the theaters, so I'd forgotten how wonderfully understated and charming it is! Great, lovable characters, snappy plot, and really weel-done humour. EVERYONE can love this one, there's enough witty references to keep any jaded adult watching closely.

Highly recommended. Get the 2-disc version, there's lots of fun stuff in the extras.

ROGUE ROCKS!

Postby BeatNikJackie7777 » Sun May 04, 2003 10:26 pm

PUFF! rogue is my fav x-men character too...I loved X2, thought it was so much better than the original...but how do you feel about their "characterization" (i.e. bastardization) of rogue? To me, she's not really rogue...they did away with her history almost completely...she doesnt seem to struggle with her mind absorption at all, except for a few refrences to her acting like wolverine..her southern accent comes and goes...her attitude is barely there (which I hope in the third movie, her confidence can grow)...and she doesnt seem to do much but be rescued. Anna Paquin is great...I'd love to see her be given the opportunity to actually play ROGUE and not shadowcat with skin absorption powers :rage

I love all sorts of movies. The ones I seem to be able to watch over and over are the ones starring Sandra Bullock. Of course the American Pie movies are fun to watch too. I think AH is a hoot in them!

I echo the kudos for X2. I think it's as good as the first one with alot more going on. I love the stuff they do with Storm and all the mutant cameos. The best thing about the movie was that it was fun. It seems like forever since I have really enjoyed something on a screen whether TV or movie. I was cheering right along with the characters and the ending was poignant (for me anyhoo). The FX were well done but the story was not forgotten. I can't wait for X3!

Now AP3 is my idea of a guilty pleasure but I prolly won't catch it till the unrated DVD come out like the last 2.

two movies that i saw recently and really enjoyed were:

Donnie Darko

8 women

I hadn't heard much about 8 women before watching it and was pleasantly surprised when the stars, including the "great dames" of french cinema including Emmanuelle Béart, Catherine Deneuve, and Isabelle Huppert started singing and dancing! oooh and that kiss between Catherine Deneuve and Fanny Ardant! it was just a fun film and they clearly had a great time making it.

Ecoing the love of X2.

I used to be a total X-Men comic geek and the plethera of shoutouts to the comic fans was great. Plus it's all around supremacy over the first movie.

I wandered out of the theater, with my non comic booky friend, giddy with the knowledge of what the next storyline would center on. The last shot where they pan over the water and you see that shape? Hell Yeh. Being able to look forward to the best X-men storyline ever on my way out of the theater was perfect.:bounce

Also? Rebeca Romain Stamos wandering around in blue paint? Never a bad thing.:eyebrow

OT{ I also miss the Rogue backstory and consiquently the formation of Rogues personality. The comic book version of her was my favorite charactor. But I think there was no way they could have incorperated her origional backstory into the movie. Although it would have made for a much more complete, interesting, kickass, self assured yet vulnerable charactor. It is a shame. }OT

Well, this is probably the wrong thread to post this, because I don't actually love the Grease films, but I know some people do and wanted to ask if anyone else had seen the news that there is to be a Grease 3 - God help us all!

Apparently the main characters are to be the kids of the original characters.
