Movie: Loving Annabelle

Postby iamthespark » Fri Apr 28, 2006 8:23 pm

I'm surprised no one is talking about the movie Loving Annabelle - about a catholic school girl who falls in love with her older teacher.

It's currently making rounds at all the gay/lesbian film festivals and it looks SO good. Anyone seen it?

Wow, that looks really interesting. Thanks for the info! I definitely want to see it now.

I thought I'd add in a link to a site hosted on myspace by the maker of this movie. It has lots of pictures and even 3 video clips. Enjoy.

Before I see it though, I would kindof like to know about the ending? Is it happy at all? :paranoid I dunno, want to know before I let myself get too emotionally involved. I will probably still see it anyway, just like to prepare myself beforehand for these things if I can. :aww yes i'm a wuss.

lol. It's ok to be a wuss. ;) I think the ending will probably be a sad/realistic one. There will be an alternative ending on the DVD.

Apparently on the site that I linked above, they said they'll stream the movie for free on myspace if they get 15000 'friends' (which I doubt will happen since they only have 600 right now.)

The movie isn't terribly sad. It's realistic but you know that they are happy and in love. There is hope. Plus it's not because it was a lesbian affair as much as the teacher/student issue. And the alternate ending promises to be the happy ending we all hope for. It looks amazing!!! It'll be out on DVD in October. Be sure to check the myspace for great clip updates and pictures! The director, Katherine, even comes online to chat with the fans! It's a very cool community.

Saw it...Loved it.

Erin Kelly's portrayal was gorgeous beyond words. Given the fact that I'm a lawyer, the whole Lolita aspect had me concerned. I was afraid the legal issues would detract me from the story. By the end of the film, I was rooting for the characters.

Brooks' shot the film in 35mm giving the color and the clarity a lusty feel while not feeling the need to give in to the reality tv handycam trend. I highly recommend that anyone interested hit the livejournal site for the film. If 15,000 people will tag it, the director will be streaming the movie live for all of you folks who can't get to the festivals to see it. Trust me, it will be worth your while.

As I did with D.E.B.S and Imagine me & You, I am obssessing over this movie since my intro to it last night. It looks like it's going to be awesome. From all accounts, the sex scene in this one is also super-hot! Katherine Brooks, the director, even so much as said that one of her major goals for making this movie was to make a lesbian film with a good steamy sex scene. All the clips I've seen indicate that she succeeded.

I too am a big wuss about happy endings in lesbian-themed films. I had no illusions that this was going to be one of them, given the whole student-teacher aspect. Like others I've heard that there's an alternate, "happy" ending on the dvd (which has btw been pushed back to a December release), so I imagine that I'll be stopping the dvd right at the end and heading over to the Extras section.

For anyone who'se a complete spoiler hag like myself, there's a great scene by scene spoiler written up at http://www3.sympatico.ca/m_lim/NewSounder/loving.annabelle.htm.
It was great for letting me know what I was in store for. Bring kleenex.

You can also pre-order the dvd from the link on the My Space page from Wolfe Video.

Finally got to see it tonight.

Ok, so Ihave been really looking forward to this but I went into it knowing that I would feel ambivalent about the student/teacher relationship. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie and even (despite my initial sceptisism) bought that they were in love. I mean I love a women falling in love story, But then, the student teacher relationship is a taboo for a reason - plus there is that whole gay=pedophile stereoptype out there and I worry about adding fuel to *that* fire.

Anyway, I thought that was really beautifully filmed and the acting was fabulous. See above re: being ambivalent about the teacher/student scenario. That said, they definately had chemistry! Still, I was kinda glad that it didn't have the fairytale ending. It seemed more realistic that way?

As a surprise Diane Gaidry (Simone) showed up for q/a afterward. She was in Buffalo working on a play so she came to the screening. Very cool. FYI: She said that she saw the ending as being a happy one. Huh.

First time I'm on this forum...but I just HAVE to say something about this movie! Really, I loved it!!The story, the acting, the actress(Annabelle!! a.k.a. Erin)
But I'm still depressed...seriously, why does the movie have to end when it was just getting interesting! They show the most intense scene EVER and booooom...the end!

Ok, after the credits there are some suggestions about alternate endings, but really...whyyyyy! Sorry, I'm getting a little caught up...but it's just a really good movie!
You have too see it!

I watched this movie last night with the wife. We liked it. Like a lot of people I was concerned that I would be to distracted by the whole teacher/student thing and not be able to immerse myself in the film... but I found that the film was about so many other things that the teacher/student thing sort of gets lost amongst them. I thought it was a really good movie, and the love scene was really well done.

Well, I watched the movie, and was quite disappointed. Frankly, I thought it sucked. :sleep Bad acting, bad lines and it just seems to stop in the middle, but maybe that's a good thing - much more of that... :happy It just looks like another bad quality lesbian flick.

This film struck me as if they ran out of money for the real ending! In quality terms it was so-so with good and bad points but the poof! That was it.

We were wary given the subject matter and, given what I was afraid it might be, they handled that okay...

One day someone will manage to make a happy, no death/no return to boystown film film, for a reasonable amount of money (and lets face it a lesbian flick needs to be relatively cheap to get made) and actually do a top class job that a wider audience might also be drawn to.

Yes, I know there are some films out there (and more besides that I liked enough to buy despite their flaws) but please... something to just bust the lesbian dramatic genre open and measure everything else against it. I mean damn, I'm still having to compare things to Desert Hearts (and how wonderful was that for an eager to explore teen!) and that was in the mid-80's!

the movie didn't quite end right for me, i don't know if there is a perfect english word for how the ending of the movie made me feel.

I wrote a rather long review/summary of this movie on my blog last month. It contains many, many spoilers so please don't complain to me. A day after I wrote and posted that summary, I found an interview with the director in which she explains that basically, they ended the movie there because they ran out of time and money. It was a tremendous relief to me and I expect greater things from her in the future.
