Title: Justice Of The Peace

Author: Auburn

Email: GemmaQT@hotmail.com

Rating: this part is PG-13

Discalimer: I own nothing except my imagination, if you want this story tell me where it's going.

Feedback: If you want to leave it, I will read it.

Summary: (AU) Willow and Tara are both police officers in Sunnydale, California. Tara has just been transferred from Alabama. together they face untold dangers. and become closer whilst doing it.

UPDATE

"I.... well, that's .....just.... yeah!" the redhead responded, taken back by the admission. "You....me.... on a..... yeah!" she tried unsuccessfully for the second time.

"Will, what Reed did in there was unprofessional. Yeah I'll admit she's an attractive woman, but I think you and I have something.... and I'd like to pursue that."

“Willow, Would you please come on a date with me?"

The redhead bit her bottom lip as though she was thinking hard about the answer, but in actual fact she was teasing and the blonde knew it.

"Yes Miss Maclay, I think I’d like that." She beamed.

Tara smiled and pulled the redhead forward by their adjoining hands with the intention of kissing the other woman, but was instead embraced into a hug only to feel Willow’s lips on her ear

"I do believe smoochies come AFTER a date." The redhead chuckled seductively much to the dismay of her partner.

"Tease!" Tara categorized Willow’s behaviour.

* * * * * * * * * *

Three days had passed and no new breaks had arisen in 'the author' case, Willow and Tara had only seen each other at work although a time and place had been set for their date, Tara was to pick Willow up in a cab because the redhead refused to go on a date in that 'space shuttle.'

Because of the lack of movement in 'the author' case Willow was now actively pursing the rumour about an officer and a criminal dating, Chi was adamant his source of information was reliable and told the redhead, if pursued this information could lead to something. Willow did however notice a change in his behaviour, he looked nervous and on edge and that wasn't good.

She requested files on every police officer in the precinct from Mack, and ever faithful he granted her request only if she kept it quiet and so far none of the files provided any 'suspicious' information about any particular officers. She did notice however that one police officer had worked more precincts than any other and out of curiosity she decided to check the legibility of this particular file.

At home on her computer she searched for every one of the precincts on this officer’s file only to find that some had been gone since the 1920's and some had been demolished in the first and second world war. The only thing running through her mind was 'what the fuck?'

Right now it was exactly 11:45pm and she was on her way to Tara's apartment, laptop by her side ready to share this information with the woman who was fastly becoming a vital part of her life.

The redhead buzzed the intercom hoping her partner would be awake.

"Hello?" a soft voice answered.

"Hey, Tara... it's me. Can I come up?"

"Willow? ..." the blonde asked in surprise, "yeah sure I'll buzz you in."

The redhead made her way up the flight of stairs and was greeted by a pyjama clad Tara beaming from ear to ear.

"To what do I owe this pleasure?" the blonde implored flirtatiously knowing full well that the only piece of clothing she was wearing covered very little.

"Well, you won't be saying that when you see what I have to show you." Willow assured entering the apartment and placing her laptop on a coffee table, trying desperately to keep her attention off the barely covered Tara-skin and on the subject that had brought her here in the middle of the night. Taking a seat on the sofa and patted an area next to her.

Tara took the hint and sat in the place indicated, holding the T-shirt she was wearing as low as it would allow, a puzzled look on her face.

"Now..." the redhead started "I want you to take a look at this file and tell me if you can see anything wrong with it."

The blonde nodded and watched as Willow opened her laptop and seemed to be getting something ready. "There now read."

The redhead sat for a few moments as Tara's eyes crossed the screen over and over taking in the information in front of her. When she was done, she turned to face her partner with a frown on her face. "I don't see anything wrong?" she questioned.

"Not yet." Willow assured then did something else on her laptop and signified for Tara to read that too.

The blonde read what was offered and looked up at the face of a half smug half-confused redhead.

"That doesn't make sense?" she stated. "If these precincts were demolished decades ago how can a 26-year-old police officer have worked in them?"

"EXACTLY!" Willow yelled. "It sooooooooo doesn't make sense, I've been racking my brain since five o. clock this afternoon trying to figure it out, but the fact is there is no rational explanation. An informant told me to check out a rumour about an officer and a criminal dating and said it would lead to something interesting so I asked Mack for the files on all the officers in the precinct to check for anything suspicious and I found this.... but what do I do now?"

"Well you're going to have to tell Mack so he can take it higher, this is serious, Will." The blonde instructed all the while her brain knew the possibilities of the redheads finding. This officer was either a Fraud or was so old they really had worked in all those precincts. "Don't do anything until tomorrow you'll need tonight to figure out what you're going to say, I really have to go to bed I'm so tired."

"Oh, God, I'm sorry, I woke you up? ... I'm sorry I was so excited and confused at what I found I didn't think about you and your sleepy needs." Willow worried, although seeing Tara in just that Red T-shirt was certainly worth it. Picking up her laptop, she rushed to the door. "I'll see you at work?"

"Yes." Tara answered as the redhead smiled and hurried out the door.

* * * * * * * * * *

As soon as Willow had left Tara changed into something that looked less like 'sleepy Tara' and more like 'action Tara' getting into her gray truck she drove across town stopping every now and then to make vamps give her directions then steak them. It was ruthless, but vamps weren't exactly known for their ability to give mercy to their victims.

Jumping out of her truck she scanned the many run down apartments looking for the number that had been on the file of the 'corrupt' officer Willow had shown her earlier. Finding the number on a ground floor apartment she searched for a back entrance and kicked it open non too quietly.

She went directly to the bedroom hoping to catch the officer unaware, but was instead greeted by the barrel of a gun.

"Stop right there asshole.... what? .....what are you doing here?" the officer asked in surprise.

Tara skipped all acceptable forms of greeting and cut straight to the chase. "What the fuck are you Kathy?"

"What?" the woman repeated seemingly shocked at the question.

"I'm not playing games with you, I asked you a question and I want an answer...."

"Oh yeah and what are you going to do if I don't give you one? .... tickle me to death? ... you're human, nothing you can do scares me."

With that Tara lifted her right hand and flicked her wrist sending a lamp flying in Kathy's direction causing the woman to duck to avoid injury.

"Never underestimate me Kathy, I have just as many secrets as you... although mine aren't potentially deadly."

The dark-haired officer sighed and took a seat on the edge of her bed. "My name isn't Kathy for a start......"

* * * * * * * * * *

Willow sat in her car a safe distance away from Tara's as she watched the apartment her partner had entered exactly two hours and 47 minutes, six seconds ago, but who's tracking time?

The redhead had known something was wrong when Tara stated she was tired. It was such a random statement that anybody ... even non-police officer people could figure out something was wrong and strategically parked her car, although she had to admit, she wasn't expecting the blonde to come rushing out and speed off into the night, and what did she keep stopping for?

Sitting in the car the time had seemed like it was going in slow motion. Every second passing seemed like a minute and ever minute an hour.

So many questions were going through her head, but her heart was telling her that Tara would make it all better, Tara would sort things out, explain and put things right, but of course she had no way of knowing this.

So for now, she was letting her head lead and it was raging with anger.

Willow was no genius, well, actually she was, but anyone with common sense could make out from to nights events that since Tara had come to Sunnydale she had been keeping secrets and Willow vowed she would find out what they were.

Stepping out of her beloved car the redhead made her way quietly to the back entrance of the apartment and peeked through the window. Seeing nobody near the door she quietly pulled her gun from its holder near her left rib cage and flipped the safety catch, holding it in front of her body ready to shoot at anything threatening. She proceeded to walking into the building. As the redhead entered, she noticed the faint sound of voices in one of the rooms and followed the mute vibrations that ran through the thin walls of the apartment as each word was spoken, she passed the kitchen, a bedroom, and the bathroom then stopped at the doorway of what she presumed must be the livingroom. The voices could clearly be heard as she stood, listening.

"So why didn't you just curse this person and move on? ..... why did you stick around?"

"I had business to attend to, you know Sunnydale is the hell mouth, I get more work here, more people begging for vengeance I can almost taste the misery...."

"Spare me the details of your existence to exact pain on others, I'd kill you right now if I didn't need you to stop these murders."

"And I'd have killed you by now if I didn't need you, so lets skip the pleasantries and annoying chat and get down to some business, just because I'm a demon doesn't mean I can't be civil."

That was about enough for Willow, curses, hell mouth, demon had she stepped into a fairy tale? What was going on? Stepping out from behind the doorframe she saw Tara stood resting her weight against a cabinet that was positioned in front of a wall and Kathy sat on the sofa.

The two officers turned to look at the intruding redhead with surprise etched clearly on their faces.

"Willow!" the blonde exclaimed beginning to panic. How was she going to explain this?

"Tara.... if that really is your name" the redhead stated sarcastically

"Willow....... I.... please.. I can explain...."

"Save it" she abruptly interrupted "I trusted you, I let you in ....God knows I fell for you and now you're here doing who knows what!"

"Please.......Willow just let me...." her plea had been disregarded as the redhead ran out of the room, out of the building and into the street towards her car. Speeding of into the night the only thing left were tire marks.

* * * * * * * * * *

She wasn’t sure how long she had been driving, but she was sure tiredness, hurt and anger had fuelled her to drive without direction and to seek solace in the unknown roads which lead her away from the places she recognized and those emotions were the reason she had become lost, isolated on a road that lead onto more roads and was surrounded by nothing but buildings that looked as old as time, covered in dirt and grime that had accumulated over years of neglect. Pulling the car to a holt she checked the dash and other various compartments for a map or anything that could help her figure out where she was and internally cursed herself for being so stupid. For so long she had been on her own, living for nobody but herself, feeling nothing. Now all these emotions were cursing through her veins and there was nothing she could do about it except ride the waves.

Parking her car Willow sighed in submission, the roads that she had sought to seek consolation now held her captive. Leaning her head on the steering wheel she tried to relax and think of a plan to get herself to a place she knew but she realised this wasn’t the best place to park.

A window being smashed echoed through the air along the narrow street and bounced off the walls of each building, sending birds scattering and a chill through the bones of anyone who may have heard.

Before Willow could protest, she was being pulled through the hole where her driver’s side window had once been.

To Be Continued....

Welcome baaaaack :wave :bounce

I actually hope Willow will safe herself. Having Tara do that would be a way to easy way out (too convenient as well). Besides, given how Willow drove away who's to say she's still in the same town ??

Something else is weird about that breaking window... Willow drives an expensive car, for some reason I don't think those windows break so easily. They crack on accidents, true... but they usually don't break into fragments (to protect the driver). Windows are probably not build to withstand vampire strength... but it could as well be a regular car-thief. Whatever it is, Willow is still IN the car, the bad person is NOT... hit full throttle and lets see how long he/she hangs on, heh. ETA:hmm.. on re-reading she might not be all that much in the car, someone is at the very least trying to drag her OUT of the nice protecting vehicle

I don't get what Willow intended to accomplish by showing herself in that appartment by the way. She just said 'hi' and ran off, hardly usefull :-). Silly girl :) .

About the initial Tara/Kathy confrontation; Tara really should be more afraid.. at least internally. A bullet *will* kill her and Kathy is much more difficult to kill. Heck, I don't even know HOW to kill a Vengance/Justice demon exactly. As such Willow showing herself wasn't too smart either since it put Tara somewhat more in danger by distracting her (obviously).

Nope, Tara didn't act all that smart in this update... lying so obviously even infatuated Willow noticed.. entering the home of an unknown villain so loudly.. not too smart. The latter might be a requirement of being a slayer of something, make lots of noise so the baddies can hear you coming :)

It's probably not very fair but I do tend to blame Willow's current situation on Tara. However I soooo hope she can get out of that situation herself, it's not like she's a helpless dame in distress now is she ?? Police training and such, besides traffic kills more people/demons every year... heh : -->>:

P.S. Unless your datafiles are infected with a virus it's never nessecary to erase them to fix a computer. I would recommend you create (or ask someone to create for you :-) a second partition on which to store your data files (i.e. word documents).. that way if your system misbehaves you can erase the first partition (part-of-a-disk) and re-install it while still having your data. [/nerdmode :-]

Grimlock72: hey, I had to wait till I had more time to answer your essay :p

We’ll see if Willow saves herself or if someone else saves her..... who knows.... except me that is :grin

at this moment, Willow is getting dragged out of her car, by who or what is something you can debate, as for windows smashing, expensive car or not so expensive, you hit them hard enough they can shatter.

There wasn’t anything to ‘gain’ by Willow showing herself in the apartment she intended to eavesdrop but heard something you only read about in fairytales so showing herself is just as confusing as the way she feels right now.

You have to remember Willow knows nothing... vengeance what?... is probably what’s she’s thinking so obviously she didn’t put Tara in danger intentionally, as far as Willow knows Kathy is just a fraud

the way Tara entered the home, is just the way I wanted it, vengeance demons can vanish at the click of a finger... maybe the way she did it so quickly was a good thing.

We’ll see if Willow gets herself out of that situation. I had written it but again, computer troubles meant it vanished. And you don’t have to tell me about traffic statistics.... been there bought the t-shirt. :hmm

Thanks for your suggestion with the computer stuff.... but to me my comp is just like any other machine... I don’t know how to use it :crash

UPDATE

Legs kicked and bucked but were only greeted with air or brushed against concrete as Willow struggled to set herself free of the hold that was getting tighter and tighter around her neck by whatever was dragging her backwards. She tugged and pulled on what seemed to be an arm trying to ease the grip but the more she pulled the more forceful her captor became.

Her captor’s destination was the alleyway, the dark and dank environment could be recognised by Willow anywhere, it’s where the lowest of the low could be found and where the lowest crimes could be committed.

Willow realised that struggling against this inhumanly strong (what she presumed to be) man was useless. Letting her body be dragged she waited, waited for that one tiny second her captor made a mistake and as soon as he did she’d run, this time with a destination.

Suddenly her attacker stopped moving backwards and spun her round with the least amount of effort; she could feel the cold of the wall seeping through her coat. Taking a deep breath she steadied herself forcing her eyes to look at what was about to take her life and she froze.

Her captors eyes were illuminated by the dark surrounding them both, she could make out hair and a nose but everything in between was obscured by the shadows.

Stepping closer Willows attacker became more visible and as a growl escaped from his lips a squeal escaped from hers. His teeth were protruded from his lips and she soon realised her attacker had either had some serious facial reconstruction or was not human.

She began to panic as he moved forward slowly enjoying the fear within her and she did exactly what Xander would do.

Lifting her right knee she thrust it forcefully into what she hoped was the man/things groin and as he doubled over successfully in pain she ran. Faster than ever before towards her car, her lungs burned as she heaved air into them trying to make herself go faster hoping that the knee to the groin had stunned the man/thing long enough for her to speed off in her car.

Just as she felt her fingers touch the handle of the door she found herself being ripped away.

The man/thing lifted her into the air and threw her forcefully to the ground and she landed with a thud hitting the back of her head on the cold, hard concrete. Her vision blurred and she shook her head as she gained focus. The street lamp added a little more light and she saw the full extent of what she now knew was a ‘thing’ rather than a man.

Panic struck Willow full force as images flashed through her mind from the last couple of weeks. Her world had change and she had started to live, everything that had lain dormant in her body had started to reawaken and there was only one reason for that.

Tara.

Willow’s mind replayed the moment they met. Something had happened that day when her eyes first gazed into Tara’s a door had began to slowly open and for all she was Willow had tried to push it closed only to have Tara on the other side fighting back. All the mean things she had said and done and Tara had still been there trying to push that door fully open, but now here she was laying on hard, cold concrete trying to aimlessly scurry away from something so fierce it had no remorse and only one aim. To kill her. And it was all her fault. Tara hadn’t lied about who she was it was that Willow had never asked. Never cared to get to know the woman that had saved her life in more ways than one.

Maybe, just maybe all that talk about demons and hell mouth had been true.

The teeth of the thing snarled at Willow and she laughed nervously as it reminded her of a vampire suddenly she stopped laughing and stared the creature deftly in the eye. It was a vampire and vampires could be killed.

The creature stalked Willow backwards and suddenly threw it’s self at her landing on top of her with such force the air was knocked out of her thin frame. A hard pressure slammed into her ribs and Willow immediately recognised it to be her gun and an idea suddenly became her lifeline.

Teeth pierced Willow’s soft skin and she fumbled through her coat flipping the strap on the holder she yanked on the metal as her head began to spin.

A loud bang made its way up and down the street ricocheting off every old building standing unused and vibrating through the earth.

“This is useless you know, she doesn’t want to be found.”

“Just shut up and keep looking, Kathy!” Tara ordered rolling her eyes. Willow had been gone for hours and Tara’s heart was beginning to feel the strain. Every blue car she saw made her hope then recoil as soon as she saw someone else at the wheel.

“It isn’t Kathy I keep telling you, you know my real name so have some human manners and use it. Can you believe people actually thought I was a Kathy?... do I look like a Kathy?”

Tara rolled her eyes again and tightened her grip on the steering wheel, endless hours in a car with the demon was starting to make her nerves twitch, she could feel power rising to her fingertips at the annoyance of the demon next to her, but that was no way to go about things and she knew it.

“I’m sorry Anyanka, I didn’t mean to be rude and forget your ‘real’ name.” The blonde apologised.

The demon nodded accepting the apology then sat back in her seat and sighed.

“Are we finished yet?... why am I actually here with you?.... it’s not like I care where she is.”

Tara inhaled deeply trying to calm herself. “You are here because two pairs of eyes are better than one and you are here because you are the reason Willow is missing in the first place.” She explained between gritted teeth.

“Well now.” The demon quipped. “That’s not exactly true is it? Willow isn’t running from me Tara and you know it, she’s running from you. You and your secrets because from the look on her face she had no idea you were a witch or that demons actually existed, so if you want to place the blame anywhere, stick it on yourself because that‘s where it belongs.”

Tara looked at the demon as if she had suddenly grown a second head although that shouldn’t actually come as a surprise. Anyanka had actually hit the nail on the head and tears began to brim in Tara’s eyes as she realised Willow was out there somewhere because of her, because she hadn’t told Willow who and what she really was.

“You know you could have found her by now don’t you, Tara?” Anyanka asked with a little more tact than her previous outburst.

“What do you mean?” The blonde asked, confusion etched on her face.

“I mean that Willow’s energy is strong, she has untapped, pure power. You should be able to feel it with being a witch and all.”

“I’ve never read Willow’s energy, I always think it gives me an unfair advantage.” The blonde explained suddenly wishing she had and giving Anyanka a sideways glance.

The demon let out an over the top sigh and threw her hands in the air.

“I’m a demon, if any of my demon friends heard about this, well lets just say it wouldn't be very nice.”

Anyanka directed Tara through the streets of Sunnydale as the blonde drove the car like she was in a formula one race, clearly desperate to get to where the demon was leading her. Every turn she took the wheels screamed in protest in the dead of night, speeding though the dark.

Tara pulled over leaving the engine running as she dived out of her car searching for Willow Anyanka stepped out surprised to find herself actually concerned her eye caught something on the road.

“Tara.”

The blonde turned and walked horridly over to the demon, her eyes fell upon what Anyanka was looking and at she bend down to run her fingers through what seemed to be dust.

The demon and the police officer looked at each other knowingly “Vampire.” They said in unison.

Tara drove with just as must haste as Anyanka once again lead her through the roads of Sunnydale, they had turned so many corners and passed so many houses that everything was starting to look the same until Tara recognised the street they had just pulled onto, her brow furrowed.”

“This..... this is where I live, why would Willow come here?”

The demon shrugged her shoulders “so I can leave now?”

Tara nodded and reached over to squeeze Anyanka’s hand showing her appreciation and she saw a slight flicker of emotion pass the demons face before it was shook away and Anyanka vanished.

Quickly getting out of the car Tara rushed to her apartment, afraid of what she might find. Would Willow be angry? Hurt? From what Tara and Anyanka had figured Willow had encountered a vampire. Would she be injured?

Her thoughts had taken over her and she didn’t realised she had been standing outside of her apartment for at least 10 minutes trying to prepare herself for any possibly reaction. Taking in her surroundings Tara noticed straight away that there was now a series of small holes where her lock had now been, realising Willow must have used her gun to shoot through the lock she pushed the door open cautiously, peeking her head in first. Tara was greeted with only darkness as she entered her apartment, walking slowly over to the lamp on a small table next to her sofa she flipped the switch and blinked as her eyes got used to the light. Her ears focussed on a sound coming from her kitchen and she turned to face the noise, over the counter that separated the kitchen from the living room Tara could see Willow. Her back towards her, her head slumped in defeat.

Thought once again took over Tara’s mind as she tried to decide what to do. Her heart was telling her to run over and pull Willow into her arms, never letting go but her head was telling her to take it slow. Willow might not want that sort of contact. Most of all Tara was just glad Willow was safe.

“Willow?” The blonde’s voice softly pierced the silence of the room and in answer Willow let out a small sob that visibly racked her body. Turning slowly the redhead faced Tara, her face tear stained and fresh drops of sadness slid down her cheeks, her eyes swollen and red.

Tara looked at the face of the woman who had come to mean so much to her and her heart broke to see such pain take over the once angelic features of her partner.

“Willow, I’m so sorry....” The blonde tried to apologise but was stopped by one of Willows hands being thrust up into the air.

“Don’t!”

“But Willow...”

“No Tara.... Just, just hold me, please?”

As soon as the words were out of Willow’s mouth Tara rushed over and enveloped her partner into a fierce hug, feeling Willow wince a little she eased her grip only to have Willow hold her tighter. They stood for what seemed like hours just holding each other, taking comfort in each others embrace and as sobs shook Willow’s body Tara still held on trying to ease all the confusion that was going through Willow’s mind.

The sobs dissipated after a while and Willow felt emotionally drained, she had so many questions running though her mind, so many things to say and do, but right at this moment the only thing she knew was what she wanted.

Slowly pulling away from Tara Willow took a moment to look into the blue eyes that had captured her from the moment she saw them and they calmed her. Eased her confusion until all she was focused on was those blue eyes.

Her eyes travelled over Tara features, her lashes that curled upwards and twitched at every eye movement the blonde made, her nose that had a slight downward curve and her cheeks that dimpled lightly when she smiled. Those soft full lips that she knew the taste and feel of were the most captivated and as Tara brought her tongue out to moisten them Willow knew what she had to do.

Leaning forward Willow brushed her lips lightly over the other woman's allowing their memories to replay the first and last kiss they shared. The memory made Willow press against Tara’s mouth harder. They stayed in a slow motion of kissing, their mouths brushing against each other over and over just revelling in the feel of one another as their mouth’s danced and their bodies shared their heat. Willow brought her arms to rest on Tara’s shoulders and winced as a sharp pain travelled through her rib cage. Tara tried to break the kiss to see what was wrong but found her mouth being assaulted by Willow’s tongue lightly brushing her own.

Their kiss grew in intensity as their tongues danced and their hands began to roam, Tara pressed her body firmly against Willow’s, jamming the redhead firmly against the kitchen cabinets and Willow’s hands worked their way up the back of her partners shirt. Starting from the base of her neck Willow made her way over every bump and curvature Tara’s spine made, her skin soft and burning at the feel of being caressed. Tara let out a moan she had been trying to hold and she realised the feeling of Willow on her was starting to make her lose control.

Willow whimpered as Tara broke the kiss only to be satiated by the blondes mouth drawing hot patterns on the skin of her neck, her pulse point was assaulted and her head lulled back allowing Tara more room to explore her flesh. Tara took a moment to examine the fresh bite wounds on her partners neck and As Willow’s head fell back her hips pushed forward, finding a firm muscled thigh against her pubic bone she bent her knees pushing herself against the offending leg. Willow’s breathing hitched as her clit was suddenly stimulated and she recognised the first signs of orgasm, it had been so long since her body had been set alight and she was unable to stop herself from pushing harder.

Tara’s mouth covered every inch of Willow’s neck and jaw, licking, sucking and nipping. She had felt Willow’s center against her leg and heard her partners sharp intake of breath but with each movement of Willow against her Tara realised Willow was close and moved her hands that had been holding her partners back, down to the woman’s hips, stopping her movements and receiving a grunt in protest.

“Willow look at me.” The blonde instructed. Taking a moment to control herself the redhead complied, her face flushed.

“Will, we have a lot to talk about, are you sure you want this with me?”

The redhead nodded her head in reply, but for Tara that answer wasn’t good enough.

“I don’t want a nod of the head Willow, I want to make sure you’re certain because this isn’t going to be a one night kind of deal, do you understand?” Tara had been so sure that after the nights events Willow would disregard her completely, never speak to her again, never look into those green eyes without them looking back at her with hate, but Willow was here, in her arms giving herself to her and Tara just wanted to make sure it was real.

Willow looked directly into her partner’s eyes and a light smile covered her lips.

“I don’t know what I’m getting myself into officer Maclay, but I do know I want this with you.”
