:fit2 I'm kinda wondering why Chris (Artemis) didn't use that emoticon to describe the latest chapter, cuz quite frankly it is appropriate. Or maybe it's just me. What exactly did I say in my last little bit o' feedback. Oh yes, here it is...
Quote:
Now Tara keeps coming back to the Willow loves Xander thing. How does Tara know this? Certainly Willow has never said it or told Tara she even likes Xander.
Jump to the last chapter and we have...
Quote:
"You love him." She paused for a split second before continuing. "You want to spend time with him."
and
Quote:
"I do," she said softly, awed by Tara's perceptiveness. "Love him I mean, want to spend time with him. He's... my Xander, you know?"
WHAT? No, no. NO! NO! You do not tell the love of your life that you love someone else! Especially when said love of your life thinks you are straight and you just told her that you love your best MALE friend. The blonde does NOT understand! :fit2 That emoticon - it's not enough. He needs to be supersized! And he needs a rubber noodle to hit Willow in the head with.

The beginning of the update was so sweet. The two of them together, laughing and genuinely enjoying each other's company fairly stress free. Of course Tara is slightly fixated on the "three" touches and as Cameron mentioned it would be interesting to relive those few moments from Willow's POV. I have a feeling that we will in some fashion, especially since I am convinced that Willow will be mulling over - okay, I really mean analyzing the evening in order to determine when Tara's mood shifted. Willow is a smart girl and eventually she will figure it out (I hope), but the sneaky author of this fic has done a great job of having Willow miss all the clues. The couple of other instances when she has brought up the dreaded X-word, she has conveniently missed Tara's initial unguarded reactions - her back has been turned, Willow has ducked her head, there is too much other emotional interference, etc. There is a pattern here, Willow just needs to pay a little more attention. I think that as they continue to get closer, the X-word will continue to be a thorn, and Tara's emotions will get more difficult to control and hide.

Willow bringing up the condo shopping was unexpected, as Chris mentioned. Tara is too wrapped up with trying to wrestle her emotions into place to really put this revelation into context appropriately. Willow is absolutely pessimistic about the whole thing. Although, unlike Tara we really know why (even though prices in SF are mind-numbing, it's not the reason). I know everyone is looking forward to the party, as am I, but I'm also looking forward to some Anya-Tara time on Saturday. Not much can beat some blunt truths from the 'bottle blonde.' And with Tara forming some questions and doubts about Willow's intentions - sure to be even more amplified by the going's on at the party - some Anya-ness could lead to some very interesting places.

I'm so glad Tara managed to ask Willow to the Red Party. I really never had a doubt that she would - there is way too much potential for the updates covering that drama - but I think you did a great job of building the tension. One more minute and you could have had Tara simply missing the opportunity - excellent!

And you seemed to slip a little point of contention in with Buffy in this update as well. Why on earth would Buffy think that it is weird that Willow and Tara are having dinner together? I'm sure Buffy and Willow have had dinner together, just the two of them, on many occasions. As I am also sure that Buffy and Tara have done the same. Sometimes I think Buffy needs a good :smash She's almost as bad as the whole X-word fiasco (see rant above).

RATS! There be angst again. Phhhttt.. nothing a fifth of Vodka and half a dozen lemon drops can’t cure! Tara was very, very busy counting touches and getting all contemplative. Not since.. that day in the park?? At the beach? They had dolphins at the pound? WHAT?

Quote:
He's... my Xander, you know?

I immediately thought:

Quote:
He is. He's... my Tara." Willow said simply, smiling to herself. She looked up and caught Tara perplexed look, so she elaborated. "Like if I was Buffy...? Because you're Buffy's Tara. I mean, you are Tara, and it's not like Buffy posseses you or whatever, you're Tara-on-your-own, independent of Buffy, but, you're her best friend from college and Bryan's my best friend from college so... he's kinda, my Tara.

Nerdy Willow is so cute! But you know.. for the kinda work she does, spending a lot of green on a screen? Kinda important to have a quality piece of equipment. Buffy actually had good timing for a change because Tara really needed to pull herself together. Hmm.. maybe that wasn’t such a good thing after all. I’d like to hear the rest of that sentence. You are evil. Some things are easier NOT said. Willow’s admission made this “love” for Xander tangible. It hurts. Then you go and bring up the moving out deal. Blindsided! There was a lot of sweet give/take interaction throughout the dinner and afterwards. Willow offering her jacket.. nice touch. If only Willow would finish some sentences, and stop amending others! And is she ever gonna get to watch Tara paint? Sorry for my lame-o feedback. I could blame it on alcohol but.. it’s just me. Anyway.. This is sooo good..

Neverland aka Never-ending-angst-land! Hehe!

Postby galerina » Mon Oct 25, 2004 1:13 pm

Although I end up banging my head on the nearest hard surface in frustration :gnome after reading every update I absolutely cannot get enough of this story!!! I still come back for more....:crazy

What I was wondering was what Tara and Buffy talked about on the phone after Willow and Tara's dinner at the end of chapter 22? I know, I know, a little behind the times but I was out of the country so I have a pretty good excuse!! Willow went and phoned Xander to gush over how well the evening went. Tara was obviously having conflicted feelings....what did she talk to Buffy about?? I realize that this is a fictional place with fictional characters but I was just wondering :blush .

As for Buffy being weirded out about Willow and Tara having dinner together, it's probably just a bit of jealousy that they are getting along so well and she can't be there to be a part of it. Maybe a bit of pouting going on? I know I'm jealous that I can't be there. Hehe! :laugh

Please keep up the updates!!!! I check way more than a sane person should but I have never claimed to be sane so I think I'm in the clear! You are doing a fantastiful job!

Postby Irishgrl3 » Mon Oct 25, 2004 1:24 pm

It was really nice to see them relaxed and having a good time at dinner. Willow with the touching, story telling and flirting and Tara with the teasing... so sweet. What's with the "not since..."? That day in the park I'm guessing but hopefully you'll fill us in on that soon.

Buffy's comment was interesting about how weird it was that they were having dinner together. Willow's just got to tell Buffy, soonish.

I'm glad that what Tara thinks she should do and what she actually does are two different things. It keeps her from doing things like asking Morgan out. :D Tara's rational thoughts are completely wonky when she sees or thinks about Willow. Yay!!! There is hope! There is hope right?

The party ought to prove interesting. And a jealous Willow you say?

Great update! :applause

Another update???

Postby CaptMurdock » Mon Oct 25, 2004 5:30 pm

Sweet and sour Pork, you update too fast!!

Seriously, I wish I could write as fast as you. It sure wouldn't have taken me two years to finish my magnum opus.

Still, I have to check back here on a regular basis (and I don't even have time to check everybody's comments, which sucks because I love doing that, but with my laptop problems it's hard).

Don't you dare have Willow move out!!!:no

Re: Neverland

Postby prometeo232 » Mon Oct 25, 2004 7:46 pm

Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why Willow didn't say: "Yeah, I wish Xander would move up here, so we could go find some nice, hot girls because Xander is so depressing without a girlfriend... euh... I mean... I don't need a girl nice and hot... because well... euh so Xander single... yes bad, very bad I must go find him a girlfriend... oh Anya!!! I hate her but she'll do, is she available?..." and like we say here: "Listo el pollo!!!" (Ready the chicken!!! literal translation)...

I swear you could write the operating instructions of a microwave and it'll be emotionally rich and beautifully written... Amazing...

Oh the party, is it time for Willow to suffer at the party? because she's pretty confident that she's doing great...

Go Morgan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lovely update, everything was so perfect until Will mentioned Xander.. grrr.. he makes me crazy.. I mean couldn't he get a g/f or something.. I think I already suggested that, but it'd just make thing easier and you don't want that right??

The party should be really cool. What about Will's coming out.. I thought it was gonna be soon.. please! ;)

I'm sorry to hear there's no other story from you I can read while waiting not so patiently for the next update. But hopefully after this story's success you'll just continue and write more!!

Hey EH;)

Yay for touching!!!!!!! Even if it's not THAT kinda touching;) It's all good:grin "... just Willow wasn't affectionate like that with her. Not since... " ....Not sincewhat? The park? After Tara told her her ideal gf??? Come on!!!! That was evil!!!! :lol :lol and "Again, an innocent touch that she had seen the redhead employ before with Buffy, but not with me, never with me, not since..."....again that "not since".....ARG!!!! :lol :lol It was lovely seeing them talking about Willow work...granted not her work work....but her work place...but still, they didn't have it before:)

""Lonely?" Tara asked. " Hm...I bet she was surprised cuz ...hello...Tara working home too...and Willow would be working in Tara's apartment....and with Tara there.... how can you be lonely?:lol ....But then W/T working together at home......work will never be done :lol :lol :lol [well, not at this point of their....ahm...relationship]

Xander.....*sighs......when will he get the proper credit?!?!!?!? Poor guy....he 2was there for Willow...and now everyone hates him cuz they think Willow is in love with him....ARG!!!!! and I feel sorry for Tara....when is Willow going to come out eh???

"She's driving me nuts..." hm....how about you (meaning Tara) doing something crazy....like you know... kissing her? :lol :lol :lol .... I know I know....it's way too fast and she think that Willow is straight....but a girl can dream no?;) [opsi....I said the "d" word....:lol :lol :lol ]

Yay for inviting Willow!!! YES!!! and it's more like "oh girl....oh girl..." :lmao :rofl ...

Okay can't wait for another update!!!! It went from dailies updates to every over day update....to a weekly update!?!?!? What next??? Monthly?!?!?!?! I'll die before that....

Great Job:grin

Withdrawals are getting bad... (just kidding :D ) But since I forgot to mention a few things in my earlier dissertation and I had the chance to, you know, reread the last update a half-dozen times ;) I'd like to address those now. Anyhoo, as other's have pointed out there is the whole "not since..." thing. Although, since everything seems to be centered on that day in the park three years ago, I'm guessing the rest of those thoughts relate to that, as well. That should make for some interesting reading and analyzing to see why/when Willow did some touching and then why she hasn't since then. (thoughts out of the gutter :no )

Also, I forgot to mention how totally sweet it is that Willow LOVES it when Tara calls her Will. It almost makes her swoon. It's such a small thing - much smaller in the grand scheme of things than Willow *touching* Tara - and if Tara only knew what that did to her! It's one of the many little things that make this fic so great - little details that remind us so much of why we love these characters to begin with - their little quirky traits.

A LONG while until Tara finds out Willow's gay? A LONG WHILE?! You are out to drive us all mad, I'm convinced. Although, in some sort of masochistic way, all these misunderstandings/ baggage/ yearnings makes me more and more intrigued to how these girls will actually come together. Once their emotions stop having an all out war with their brains, yes there will be peace, but how many causalities will they have to take care of?

And what's up with Buffy? Why is Willow and Tara having dinner together so weird to her? They are roomates after all, yes, they hadn't been hanging out all that much previously, but still, they are constantly in each other's lives. I'm looking forward to Buffy's return though. I think once Willow comes out to her, if she does it first and if it goes well, she'll feel more at ease coming out to Tara- still not easy, but maybe easier.

I love the growing intimacy of the dreams- a perfect parallel to their growing relationship, well, with the lovely vicarious snogging of course.

And the party? Can this possibly go well? I'm thinking- no. Maybe it'll kick Willow in the pants, or maybe she'll get into a drunken fist fight with Morgan! Yeah- probably not.

Xander- it's pretty much all been said- maybe Buffy can help straighten out that situation.

Reading this has made me long for San Francisco so much that I'm going up in a couple of weeks. :D Hooray!

Always looking forward to more.

replies

Postby EasierSaid » Thu Oct 28, 2004 2:19 am

Sorry for the delay gang, I've been struggling with work (election madness!!!), baseball (SOX!!!) and a whopper of a head cold (splitting headaches!!! oh, wait...). Anyway, replies then update.

Wired vixen Uh oh, don't pull your hair out! That'd be.... bad. Unless you're really into hats (then, go to town). :) Poor Xander, he has no idea the antipathy directed toward him. Glad you liked Willow's little 'yay!' I love bouncy Willow, she's so damn cute, so any opportunity to write her is good times for me. Thanks so much!

justin Gah, thanks for catching that for me justin. I admit I didn't read back through the replies before I posted the last bunch (definitely won't be doing that again, haha). Poor Willow has no idea that Xander is even an issue. They've been just friends for so long I don't think she even considers that anyone would take her innocent comments about him as anything other than just that. Hopefully no amnesia will come into play (cause bumps on the head are ouchy), and although I'd love to see John Madden give Willow a replay breakdown (complete with 'BOOM! You see there that's where you lost her' commentary), Willow's just gonna have to be in the dark about this a little while longer. Assume crash position is a good position to be in for the party. : Thanks justin!

willlovestara Welcome (if you haven't left me feedback) and welcome back (if you have)! :) Got a while yet until feelings are revealed, but hopefully the build up will be worth it. Thanks Hannah.

Vogelscheuche No apologies needed - real life can be a bear sometimes (hope you get some more days off soon cause yikes!). Still no clue for our girls and I'm glad you're looking forward to the party. Thanks Insanity.

serendipitous Angsty indeed! I'm so very glad you like the relationship that's building between our girls; that's what it's all about! Haha emotional curveballs eh; I'm pretty sure ya'll think I also have a mental splitter, a spiritual sinker, and on occasion, can bring the heat (and yes, I have been watching too much baseball lately...). Thanks very much!

badkitty Oh no. This official killing... has the paperwork been notarized yet, or do I still have time to not kill you? (Eh, who am I kidding, we've got some serious :aww potential at the party.) Sorry? *bats eyelashes innocently* Thanks so much gail!

angel of salvation I like your "AAAARGGH!" It goes nicely with badkitty's Lucy avatar. :) Killing you too huh? Wow, I'm really knocking em dead! *ba dump bump* Thank you, thank you; I'll be here all week - try the lobster! (I've had a lot of sugar today... my apologies.) Please don't implode, update following.

behindhereyes I'm so glad you like the slow pace. I'm probably going muuuuch slower than I need to go, but as I've mentioned before I'm really, really greedy, and want to write all of the little moments they share leading up to the realization that they're each other's always and that those feelings they have for each other are reciprocated. (This story is so freaking long and really it's only covering about three weeks of their 'real life'.) As JustSkipIt so eloquently (and beautifully) said in her feedback for this last part (I'm paraphrasing), these are all times they'll reminisce on when they lay in bed together years from now. That's exactly what I want to have for them, even if it is frustrating for them now (and probably a little frustrating for them later); little moments where their love grew and they became friends, there for each other on a deeper level. Ready to be full, equal partners in every sense when the truth comes out. Mushy but true! I'm glad you can feel it all. Makes my day, week, etc. Thanks Kim!

snuggle79 Again I say 'poor Xander'! Oh those girls are going to owe him big time. Spa weekend in Palm Springs or something. Yeah, Tara has it rough but hopefully that'll start easing up a little (post party). Thanks!

ranebophlag Wow, you're a trooper if you got caught up in just a couple of days... that's a lot of reading! Thanks very much, I'm glad you're enjoying (and hope the reminding you of your life, are the good, happy, flirty parts!). Thank you for reading!

happynatty Oh wow, that's a lot of different emoticons! The banana still cracks me up (after all the time; *sigh* I'm easily amused). Have I gone through these things... I think we've all had these feelings before (at least, that's why I like to think ya'll are reading the story). Not the specific events though, that's just a wandering mind... :) Thanks very much natalie!

WillowPowered Haha the party *is* a perfect set up for a little dancing, a little kissing and then heading home for a little loving... if you're Michelle and Marissa! :) I think our girls are going to be having quite the different evening... So sorry! Thanks Jill!

veiled isis moon Oh man, I'm just a tornado of badness. Killing people, driving them crazy... oy vey. I'm glad you enjoy it though, well, a part of you at least! Tension is the name of the game and poor Xander (that's what... the third, fourth time I've had to break that one out so far in these replies?). Thanks so much for reading!

UnveilTheSoulbound I agree, it's going to be a great moment when Tara realizes she's not only in love but loved in return. :) I'm glad you like the slow buildup, and I'm pretty sure pure and complete shock is going to be the look on Tara's face when she finds out all that time Willow was in love with her. As for Willow's reaction to finding out the party is at Morgan's? I do believe she might birth kittens. :) Thanks!

VixenyTarasHot I know, I don't like seeing Tara torn up like that either, and I'm hoping that she'll be able to get some really good Willow time to make up for all of this angst on the other side of the party. Tara needs to get Morgan out of her system, so to speak. She's preoccupied with Morgan in an attempt to not be preoccupied with Willow... which of course isn't going to work. That'll get sorted some at the party. Willow moving... a shadow in this fic for sure. Can't help it; it must be done (bringing it up, not necessarily the actual moving). Glad you're enjoying Ashleigh!

LucyisXena No, no, no slips. (Unless they're wearing slips, cause those are mmmmmm.) :) It's all about the slow burn. Willow's going to say a lot of choice things at this party, but sadly blurting out her feelings for Tara's not going to be one of them. Sorry, and thanks so much for reading!

AmbeRocks Haha trying to remedy the update schedule some, just been working, and social butterflying a little bit more than usual. In Willow's defense, there's no way she'd know that Tara's upset-when-she-was-watching-the-movie-with-Xander was because of Xander, because Tara was downstairs, she was upstairs, etc... just one of those things that's not apparent unless someone verbalizes and points it out. *sigh* I know what you mean, Tara upset is such a yucky thing. :( Really want some happy time for her soon. Thanks so much jen!

starcat73 Gah, sorry about the heartbreaking. Haha they probably would make horrible seekers. Poor girls. So glad you enjoyed the flirting, more of that to come in future updates. Yeah, that red party is not good for Willow... initially. No mercy though! Girl has got to go through the rough time to get to a better place; and I do promise a better place on the other side of this party. It's just another readjust to their equalibriums. ;) Thanks!

Willow18 I just write as the situation arises. I have a couple of twists figured out in advance, the big ones (like the one in this next update) but the little ones (like the 'you love him'), they're just ways to keep them in a certain mood, emotion, whatever as the story progresses. So happy you mentioned the Entropy coffee shop flirting - totally the mood I was going for! :) Xander's just there... he's always going to be there in Tara's mind, although I'm getting sick of writing 'Willow loves Xander' haha so it might just be a subconscious thing for a while. ;) Willow at the party + Morgan hostessing = bad news bears. Lordy. Should be fun! Yes, I would assume crash position for the party, but you should be okay for this next update. Thanks!

crazy florist Thanks so much! I would have Willow wear that top, but damnit she just wore it on Wed (and to the best of my knowledge she hasn't done laundry yet haha). So new top, equally 'poor Tara' though! :) Thanks so much sam.

littlecrazy80 Sadly, I'm afraid Willow's C.O. is still on a distant horizon (a.k.a. we have a ways to go). Hope the interim updates can help make up for that though. Thanks!

TromDeGrey Haha uh oh, big red 'what' in the house. I went with the '...' in lieu of writing 'that day in the park' and causing riots. (I think I was afraid if I said that phrase one more time folks would freak out.) Oops, guess that happens whether I write it out or not. I totally agree, Tara deserves some happiness and I think Saturday will be the beginning of a happy period for her. The party is going to be interesting; I think the prevailing emotion is going to be frustration. More than jealousy, more than hurt, just flat out 'grrrr'. Glad you like the Willow touches, cause more on the way for sure. Poor Tara and her art; she's having a terrible time. Some of that in this update, with more to follow. Thanks so much S!

WillowRulez No coming out soonish (unless there is a new-fangled definition that means 'long time from now'). :) So sorry! And thanks for the bouncy Dumbo, so cute.

Grimlock72 Haha yeah, Willow not knowing that she's going to Morgan's place just might be a problem. Glad you like the telling of little things. I think Tara sees Willow as a little more confident than Willow sees herself; the thought that Willow's lonely, or would be lonely working from home, hasn't really crossed Tara's mind because I think she thinks Willow isn't the type to allow herself to get lonely. If that makes any sense at all. Willow talking herself down was no good, and honestly the only reason I didn't have Tara reach out and touch her hand is because I couldn't imagine Willow not twisting her hands in her lap as she beat up on herself. Damn those logistics! Very vague on the 'you love him' front, and a panicked-about-possible food-poisoning Willow was fun to picture in my mind. Tara will be a little overwhelmed at the party, and most likely Willow (and Willow's clothes) will play a huge part in that. Thanks Grimmy!

shadowygirl Hehe finger puppet's are silly. Glad you enjoyed the last update, even if it was 'short'! ;) And... I could be wrong but I think, *I think* I'm sensing some frustration on your part? :) Hope you enjoy the party and thanks April!

Rocktoddy So happy you liked Tara getting a chance to watch Willow. That was fun to write, got a chance to sit around and daydream about Alyson Hannigan for a little bit! :) I'm so glad you're enjoying the miscommunications and yeah, I'm thinking this story has a ways to go (just keeps getting longer and longer and longer... oof). Big grin on the jacket offering line... still is a romantic gesture in my book, but then again, some people are just thoughtful like that. ;) As for cool... I always loved it when Tara said cool on the show. It was always so cute haha, so there you go. Party is indeed going to feature a very jealous Willow... poor thing. Thanks!

tarawhipped Aw shucks and thanks! I dunno... I think I'm just curious. 'I wonder what it would feel like to say that, to hear that, etc'. I did want to put in Willow's touching POV, but I thought it was best to leave that until the party. Didn't want to have "she touched me"/"I touched her!" overload! :) I like yours very much though, that's pretty much exactly what I had in mind. I think Tara recalling the park and Willow touching her that day is a combination of the factors you mentioned. The Willow from the park is unfiltered Willow in a way; she didn't have the pressure of not-saying-the-wrong-thing-in-front-of-Tara-cause-she-loves-her.... she could just be herself, do her normal touching, babbling, etc. The more Willow relaxes around Tara, the more it reminds Tara of that day (which can be a good or bad thing, depending). Yes, we have double mood-swings going, so that should be fun, but for the most part when they're together and not talking about Xander they do alright... so let's see if we can't duplicate that scenario more often! :) And yes, laying on the party warnings thick... mainly cause I just don't want anyone to be upset if it's upsetting. It might not even be that bad, who knows, I haven't written it yet so... *shrug* Best to be prepared! ;) Thanks as always Cameron!

BFR from Paris Ah, to Willow's knowledge though Tara being upset/mentioning Xander has only maybe happened once... and why would Tara get upset if Xander is just a friend (Willow doesn't necessarily know that Buffy and Tara have this whole, 'Willow is pathetic cause she's still in love with Xander' club). :) It's a mess! Thanks!

LizPuRR Thanks so much! Hope you enjoy the next few updates (should cover the party).

WickedReds Willow *is* all with the touches - good times! Thanks so much reds (and is the banana now dancing for german smut? hahahaha).

JustSkipIt My heart melted at your 'lying in bed' scenario. Yes, yes, yes - that's it exactly. I hope that this fic is full of little moments like that for them, things that years later they can look back on and say 'I just wanted to kiss you,' or 'I was so jealous', etc. It's frustrating for them now, but hopefully later they can look back and take comfort in the fact that there was always love. (Even if it is still frustrating haha.) Yeah, no details on the Xander front. Willow doesn't know she needs to offer any, you know? In her mind it's understood that he's just a friend; probably doesn't even cross her mind that it'd be a problem (esp since Tara's never indicated that she's curious if Willow and Xander are together, etc). Sounds like you and Willow are on the same page with the alleged dorkiness! Just wish she would be okay with it, because it's a very neat side of her personality. Now I'm curious, was your company cool with your hack? Cause right now I'm just seriously impressed (what with me having no talent for the code...) Haha re: the worst idea ever (well, except for invading Iraq). I almost feel like I should invite Donald Rumsfield to come out and condescendingly defend Tara's right to bring Willow to hostile territory. You're right though, it's bad, especially since Tara is feeling the need (in her mind at least) to prove she could be with someone else. I maintain, however, that good things will come out of this on the flip side. It's just another adjustment for Willow to make moving forward. Thanks, as always!

And yes, VOTE, VOTE, VOTE 18+ year old Americans (good call!)

Marilda Cinch that chin strap, cause angst is indeed on the way. My kinda reader, 'bring it on' indeed! Thanks!

Stormforce :) Very glad you liked the teasing about the different animals, and yeah, that line referred to their day at the park. No Anya at the party, that'd probably just give poor Willow a stroke (and considering that Morgan's going to be there... no, no that would just be mean to have Anya there as well). Thanks!

hondosfirst Haha, how about that infamous day in the part 3 years and four or five days ago...? It's coming, just have a ways to go first. No, no writing for me for a living (social worker by trade). No other stories posted either I'm afraid - this really is my first foray into public writing. Thanks so much Rose, hope you enjoy the next update!

Artemis *blush* Thanks Chris. Yeah, a bit of a rollarcoaster; can't let them get too comfortable! Tara is definitely going to battle with her thoughts; when she's not around Willow she's doubting, worrying, etc... but when she is with Willow, she's just goofy for the girl. Trick is to get them to spend more time together (as you'll see in this update), so Tara's sensible side gets overwhelmed and she just says 'ah to hell with it' and doesn't worry about Willow being straight or Xander... just enjoys being with Willow. Of course, all that denial comes with a steep price... I don't know, it's going to be very interesting to see how it plays out. You're exactly right re: Willow talking about Xander; how would she know there might be a problem? It is frustrating though (for me too), but when it all comes out, clearing up that misunderstanding should be fun haha. "Xander?! Bleech!" Willow-down-on-herself is a constant theme in canon/fic, so I thought I'd take a swat at it... hopefully spending some time with Tara this week will help clear that up a bit, allow Willow to build some confidence. Had to have Willow bring up the housing; it's something she's been thinking about because of Shelia, and I thought it'd be interesting for Tara to have to look at Willow moving out from a Willow's-happy-to-move POV (even though we all know she's not happy or looking to move at all). Party will be interesting; happily not much goes wrong leading up to it. Thanks as always Chris, you rule.

Idgie Haha no take-backs! :P I'd still like Xander to visit, because I do believe that for every instance of angst, something good comes out of it (Willow's freakout about her first dream led to the bracelet, etc). So big angst would have to mean big resolution, right? Eh... Willow will stick to her plan to come out to Buffy first, and I'm afraid seeing Tara with Morgan is not going to make Willow's year. Lots of frustration and jealousy for poor Willow at the party.

alysagoddess85 Oh no! No ulcers! Ulcers are... bad. Unless it's good? Good lord I'm confused. :) Thanks so much Mel, much appreciated (and don't worry, lots of good one-on-one time for them in the days after the party).

shuyaku Haha that icon haunts me as I sleep! As for your feedback and the update... yeah I know... but in Willow's defense she really has no idea Tara suspects she *loves* Xander. Xander is... asexual in Willow's mind, a brother; Tara thinking she'd want him "that way" is far, far from her mind. Glad you liked the beginning, the flirting. Yes, we'll definitely have some Willow POV touching in the next few updates (hence the not wanting to go that route in the last). And you're right, I have been sneaky... Willow'd have to be a supernatural master of perception to gleen that Tara's upset about her mentioning Xander; she really and truly has missed almost all the signs. We have one more Xander misunderstanding for sure coming up, but beyond that the X-word should fade a way for a while, leaving the girls relatively stress free in that regard. I'm so glad you're looking forward to the Anya-Tara chat; Anya is going to be in fine-form that day, and while her advice might not be spot on, it'll give Tara some stuff to think about. Thanks re: the last minute party invite, that's almost more of a function of me not having a place to stick the asking earlier in the scene! :) And yes Buffy... I think Buffy's more jealous/surprised, than suspicious. Not like Willow and Tara have gone out to eat just the two of them before, and didn't they just have dinner the night before? Every time Buffy is hearing from them these days they're together, or it's just after they've spent time together. Definitely different for W/T in her mind, something to wonder about. Oh, and I'm glad you like that Willow loves it when Tara calls her Will. It's a definite sign of affection, and Willow clings to it. Thanks so much shuyaku! :)

Kajun At the park haha, I shoulda just put it in there. Yes! I threw the 'my' in there last minute to link up to the previous talk about best friends. In Willow's mind, she's talking about her best friend, so she's using the same language she'd used before. Poor Tara sees the 'my' quite differently though... I agree, if you do a lot of computer work you need a nice screen - Willow just needs to see that nerdy doesn't equal bad. Tara did get hit with two big issues in this update--Xander and moving--but I think she did an excellent job of kind of, rebounding. She still asked Willow to the party, still was happy as they walked home... so things are definitely changing for her. And yes, I think at some point Willow will see Tara at work. Thanks so much, great observations!

galerina Oh no, no banging of the head against hard surfaces. That's bad. The Tara/Buffy conversation was just a catch-up, how are you doing, what are you doing conversation. Nothing heavy. I'm sure Buffy told Tara about NYC and Tara mentioned that she had had dinner with Willow... but that's it. No deep feelings or angst there. And you're right, Buffy is a little jealous about Willow and Tara spending time together without her, and also a little curious as to why they're spending all this time together; before she left they weren't friends, just barely roommates, and now they're spending all this time together... very curious. Thanks so much Em!

Irishgrl3 So glad you enjoyed the relatively relaxed dinner. The day in the park, yes (I'm a dork, I should have just said it instead of assuming or inferring). As I mentioned to galerina and shuyaku, Buffy's definitely wondering what's up. Every time she talks to them, they're talking about each other; a definite change since she's been gone. Willow has plans to tell Buffy as soon as Buffy's off the plane haha, and I doubt that'll change. I too am glad that Tara thinks, yet does, different things; makes for some interesting interactions. And yes, jealous Willow for sure. Random girl touching her girl? Oh yeah, bring on the green-eyed monster. Thanks!

Sally McFine Hmmm... no, playing spin the bottle is definitely too Where The Wild Things Are. Don't need any girls cutting their hair off in the closet or marathon Buffy/Riley sex! I think instead we'll go with some 'looks that kill' and possibly even some misunderstandings (ah what the hell, let's say definitely on that last one). Thanks.

Nicole023 No, no, YOU ROCK. :) Thanks!

CaptMurdock Haha banana splits, I do update fast! Or at least I try to... work and friends sometimes make updating as fast as I'd like impossible. Glad you're enjoying, and Willow move out... *innocent grin* Thanks!

prometeo232 Haha that's a lot of 'y's in there. Listo el pollo huh, I might just have to use that some time! Poor Willow didn't know she was putting her foot in her mouth with the vagueness; she's going to feel like a real dummy when she realizes what Tara really thinks of her friendship with the Xan-man. Haha I don't know about emotionally rich microwave instructions... unless perhaps there is an unrequited love story with the blender than needs telling? Willow is going to have a rough time at the party; a little attitude adjustment that will help her out big time moving forward. Haha go Morgan... yes! :) Thanks!

Willster Poor Xander, he just broke up with his girlfriend like two weeks ago! And plus, even if he did have a girlfriend, that'd just make Tara more upset probably, Willow pining after taken-Xander and all. Glad you're looking forward to the party, and the coming out is still at least a week away. Long ways to go! Don't know about writing more after this; this is truly some sort of freakish inspiration thing... who knows if I'll have another one in me! But thanks for the support though!

YMKA Haha back to the EH eh. S'okay, I can take it. ;) Since the park, on both accounts (gosh I suck on that one). Glad you liked Willow talking about her work, I thought that'd be important since it's a pretty big part of her life. And yeah, how can you be lonely if Tara's home... hmm... Xander will get proper credit, and I'm thinking a paid vacation to the destination of his choice at this point. Willow's coming out to her mom and then Buffy in about a week. So, some ways to go... Willow kissing Tara sounds wonderful, and dream you say? :) I'm telling you, it's hard to find time to work with the extra work/election and baseball... hopefully life will slow down some after both are over.

shirrey Hey, at least I'm not being coy about how long it's going to take. Some brownie points for my honesty? *eyelash flutter* I hope the casualty count will be low... but I'm not really sure yet what's going to happen yet, so... no promises. Buffy is weirded out because Willow and Tara hanging out is not a normal thing at all, and every time she talks to them they're together. Just different for her. Thanks re: the dreams and the party is going to be interesting. Hope you have a great time in SF and thanks so much for reading.

If this next update reads weird, I blame Sudafed!

PART 26

Why did I say yes?!?

It was a little bit before four on Friday afternoon and Willow sat on the BART train in a daze. Things had been going so well, and then she opened her mouth and said 'yes'. How could she have made such a big mistake? She had practically blurted it out. 'Yes'. She had been so excited about the request that she didn't even think before she spoke the words, didn't even think about what it would mean for her, for Tara. It had seemed so innocent. All Willow could think when asked was, 'time with Tara, yippee!' But now, now all she could think was... Oh god.... Her stomach tightened and she gripped her bag strap tightly. Having her there, hanging around, getting in the way... that was probably the last thing the blonde wanted. Why did I say yes!?! Willow again chastised, her concern growing with each click of the track below.

I'll just say I can't go through with it, Willow thought, wringing her hands. I mean I can do that right? Say I can't? Willow dropped her hands to her leg where she picked at the material of her skirt, looking at her reflection in the window as her stop neared. Maybe I should call Buffy? The redhead thought, looking to the gray carpet. Ask her what she thinks I should do? No, no that's overreacting, Willow decided, pulling her bag to her chest. Just, talk to Tara about it. See what she says... Oh god, oh god. Willow stood up and exited the car as the train stopped and the doors opened. Why in the world did I say yes?!! She repeated as she walked toward the escalator and home.

*********************

Tara stood in front of a blank canvas, music flowing out of her small stereo and filling her studio. She shifted her weight from one foot to the other and cocked her head to the side, chewing on her bottom lip as she regarded the white, textured rectangle before her. She tapped a dry brush against the side of her faded, paint-smeared cargo pants, her left hand holding a palette decorated with several blobs of unmixed paint at her hip. The soft track lights in her studio were on, the dark, ominous clouds outside not giving her the light she'd need to create... to create...

Nothing, Tara thought, staring at the blank canvas.

"How's... hope feeling... today..." she quietly sang along with the stereo as she tried to figure out where to start with this new piece. "Tired... and sick of, this place..." She sighed and tapped the brush against the palette in her hand. "Red wine is fast, at the lip of your glass and I'm gonna ruin.... everything..." The blonde frowned at the canvas."Everything..." she absently repeated. Just let it flow Tara, relax, she thought as she continued to sing. "So it's better my sweet, that we hover like bees, cause there's no... sure footing... no love I believe..."

Tara sighed again as the song faded out and the next began. This just wasn't good. She could always paint to Neko Case. Tara had put the CD on and began singing along as she had done hundreds of times before, but now, now she was three songs into the disc and she still had nothing on the canvas. All she could think about was Neko's red hair, which of course led her to Willow's red hair, Willow's smile, Willow's hips... Beautiful, confusing Willow...

Tara reached into her pocket and pulled out the stereo remote. She hit shuffle and the discs spun, a new, jauntier tune filtering through the small speakers. She put the remote back into her pocket and then pushed her brush into the black paint on the corner of the palette, dragging the bristles down eventually into a white blob to create a light gray. She swirled her wrist to create the mixture and tried to ignore the mix of emotions inside her.

She couldn't see the painting in front of her. Couldn't begin to visualize what she wanted to do, the colors she wanted to use. This is useless... she thought, momentarily dropping the palette and brush to her sides. She couldn't concentrate, her stomach tight, her shoulders knotted. Willow and Morgan.

What had she been thinking?

Tara scrunched up her face as she reviewed yesterday. I wasn't, she concluded after a moment. She had been ruled by her feelings when she asked Morgan if Willow could come to the party, following her heart when she had asked the redhead to accompany her, and now that the event was drawing near... Tara exhaled and went back to mixing the gray paint. I invited the woman I love to a party hosted by a woman I'm thinking about dating... Tara rolled her eyes and sighed. And now I'm f-freaking out... she thought unhappily.

Tara liked Morgan, she really did. The brunette was a great girl, and Tara knew that she'd frankly be lucky to have a girlfriend that beautiful, that talented. And, as an added bonus, Morgan liked her... that much was obvious. So tonight... Tara thought, is a perfect opportunity to spend time with her, see if there's something there. But how to do that with Willow there?

Tara sighed, and satisfied with the grim light gray she'd concocted, began to evenly cover the canvas with it with broad, horizontal brush strokes. Marissa and Michelle will be there, Willow likes them, Tara thought, moving her wrist fluidly back and forth at eye level. And who knows, maybe she won't even want to spend the whole night with me... She seemed to do alright at the kitten bar when Buffy and I weren't around... the blonde rationalized, remembering Willow deftly turning disappointed potential suitors away as she sat on the couch. The blonde suddenly frowned, as an uninvited memory of an earlier time barged through her mind. "I didn't come here to be forgotten." Tara stilled her movements, the clarity of the memory surprising her. She took a deep, shuddering breath and shook her head, resuming her movements with a shaky hand.

Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard the front door open and close. She frowned and looked to the cheap plastic watch on her wrist: 4:15. What... She's home already? Tara thought as she leaned down and rested the palette and brush against the easel on the canvas tarp covering the floor. Willow was never home before five, even on Fridays. The blonde stood and wiped her hands on her pants, turning with a deep breath and exiting out into the main room, curious as to why her roommate was home so early.

As the blonde entered the large room from the narrow, short hallway, she saw a wide-eyed and nervous Willow standing next to the kitchen counter. "Hi," the redhead said, wringing her hands together anxiously, distress pouring off of her in waves.

"Hey," Tara replied slowly, looking at her roommate closely. O...kay, something definitely wrong. "Are you okay?" Tara asked, noticing how Willow shifted her weight again, her posture ramrod straight, her green eyes wide. "You're home a little earl--"

"I made a big mistake," Willow let slip, her face immediately painted with doubt at her words. "I mean--" The redhead swallowed hard, her brow furrowing and then smoothing quickly, the rapid change indicative of the battle raging in her busy mind. She looked at Tara pleadingly, her eyes asking the blonde to understand as she continued. "I kinda, said 'yes' to something that I shouldn't have, and now, I'm not sure if I know how to take that 'yes' back." Her forehead again furrowed as she paused momentarily for Tara's initial reaction.

Tara's brow knit in confusion. She didn't mean to say 'yes' to something and now she wants to take the 'yes' back... the blonde thought, trying to figure out what in the world Willow was talking about. The party? Her breath caught and she waited for the redhead to explain.

"See, I should have thought about it first," Willow continued, twisting her fingers at her waist. "But the 'yes', it just kinda came out before I could and now that I've had time to think about it I just don't think the 'yes' is a good idea--"

"Willow," Tara said, her mind spinning. Willow regrets saying she'd go to the party, she doesn't want to go--? The blonde tried to read Willow's face but all she could see was worry. She regrets saying 'yes' to me?

"I should have talked to you about it first," Willow said as she shifted her weight yet again, watching Tara's confused features as she continued. "But I didn't and now I just feel so guilty and--"

"Willow--"

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to I just--"

"Willow," Tara repeated a little more forcefully as she stepped toward the redhead, snapping her roommate out of her babble with her forward movement. "It's o-okay," Tara said gently, her calm exterior a sharp contrast to her churning insides. If she doesn't want to go to the party--

"I told my boss I'd work from home for the next two weeks," Willow blurted out, immediately pressing her lips together in a panic as if that action might take the words back, make the situation less real.

What?! Tara's mind lurched to a full and complete stop at the redhead's admission. "What?" The blonde asked, the surprise on her face evident.

Oh god, Willow thought as she took in the shocked look on Tara's face. "I--" The redhead grimaced. "We were all sitting there in the conference room and he was going around the table asking if we could work at home and everyone said 'yes' and I should have said 'no', or 'I have to talk to my roommate first', but I didn't because they were all looking at me, and I know that's not an excuse and I didn't have to agree, but I did, I just said 'yes' like everyone else, like a sheep; I'm a sheep, I'm a furry, woolly farm animal. Oh! Or a lemming, I'm a lemming--"

Tara barely listened as Willow continued sputtering, her babble running through a litany of animals known for their instinctual mob-mentality. The astonished blonde couldn't interrupt the redhead if she wanted to now, her mind stuck on the look on Willow's face. What? She repeated, her mind unwilling to work.

"A fish," Willow said shaking her head, a look of total disappointment on her face. "Like those schools they always show on the nature channel, swirling around divers out in the middle of the ocean? Just like one of those."

"What?" Tara finally repeated, genuinely confused by Willow's latest analogy.

"I'm sorry," Willow said quickly, her face holding the same expression as a kid owning up to breaking a neighbor's window. Her eyes were as large as saucers and she held her interlaced fingers against her stomach. I broke her, the redhead thought sadly as she took in Tara's overwhelmed visage.

"Why are you sorry?" Tara finally asked, just now registering the content of Willow's admission. She's going to be working from home... for two weeks...

"I should have asked first," Willow said apologetically, her frame tense, her eyes downcast. "You know, asked if it was okay--"

"Willow--" Tara interrupted and stopped, sighing as she shook her head a bit, looking to her own shoes as she tried to collect her thoughts. The blonde could feel Willow's gaze on her face, and she raised her own eyes from the floor to meet the girl's green eyes. "This is your home..." Tara said simply.

"I know," Willow replied softly. "But--"

"If you need to work from home, do anything, from home, you can," Tara said, her mind racing at a speed completely inverse to her measured phrasing. "You don't have to ask me."

"Okay," Willow said sheepishly.

Tara frowned at Willow's unconvincing reply. "But...?" The blonde said gently, taking another step toward Willow, stopping a little more than a foot away from the girl.

Willow looked up at her roommate and then back down. She paused for a moment and then met Tara's steady gaze. "I know you have a lot of work to do this next week for the L.A. show," Willow began, and Tara dipped her head, nodding slightly as she understood now why Willow was so flummoxed. "You said you'd be doing a lot of work at home, and you seemed kind of, stressed out about it, last night," Willow shrugged her shoulders. "I figured the last thing you'd want was me hanging around, getting in your way..."

"Are you going to be setting your computers up in my studio?" The blonde asked softly.

"No..." Willow answered slowly, confused.

"Then you don't have to worry," Tara reassured. "You won't be in my way. You'll probably be upstairs, I'll be downstairs..." The blonde smiled slightly. "It'll be fine," she added, not at all believing her own words. Willow, at home all day long, for two weeks... oh god...

Willow nodded her head slightly. She let herself relax a bit and looked at the goofy oversized plastic watch on Tara's wrist, a few splotches of dried paint on the band. I'll just hole up in my room, wear my headphones, Willow thought, her eyes moving to take in Tara's paint splattered blue Converse. Maybe I can go to the library or the Internet cafe for a few hours everyday... The redhead looked up and met Tara's gaze when the blonde spoke.

"So why did he ask you to work at home?" Tara asked, both curious about the situation and hoping talking about it would help the still obviously tense redhead relax.

"The rats," Willow replied. "They're going to tent the building, bring an exterminator in..." Willow trailed off, noticing the different colors of paint smudged across Tara's baggy cargo pants. "It's a problem I guess with some of the converted warehouses down there; they spend all this money refurbishing and reclaiming the structure for offices, and then once it gets cold, out come the pests. Or is it in?" Willow looked momentarily perplexed and Tara couldn't help but smile slightly. "Anyway," the redhead resumed,"the guys that are going to do the exterminating were in the office this morning. Apparently, rats weren't the only thing they found..." she shuddered involuntarily and Tara chuckled a bit. Willow looked up and smiled slightly at the blonde's light laugh.

"They have some empty offices, conference rooms, in the corporate office up on Market," Willow further explained, "but they thought it'd be best if those were used by the displaced administrative assistants, liason execs, etc; all of the programmers are going to work at home." Willow frowned, and then quickly added, "except for Tim." Tara raised an eyebrow and Willow explained, "his wife is eight months pregnant--she's 'nesting' and he said he was afraid that if he had to work at home... well let's just say his wife sounds like a peach." Tara chuckled again and Willow smiled again, brightly.

"So w-what happens now?" Tara asked, her nerves starting to grow. Willow, working from home for two weeks...

"One of the IT guys is going to bring my work machines over tomorrow afternoon," Willow said. "Set up my access to the remote server, some other stuff, but other than that, that's it." Willow smiled a little. "I get to sleep in a little." Tara smiled at that and the two stood quietly for a long moment, each lost in their own thoughts.

Two whole weeks with Tara... Willow thought happily, nervously.

Two whole weeks with Willow... Tara thought nervously, warily.

The two looked up and caught each other's eye. They both smiled slightly before Tara looked down at her goofy watch. Willow wiped her hands on her skirt and reached down, picking up her bag. "I better, go upstairs," the redhead said, not wanting to take up any more of Tara's time. "Maybe start moving my room around, make space for the gear the IT guy is bringing over."

"How much stuff is he bringing over?" Tara asked, wondering if Willow's room would look like NASA's Mission Control by sundown tomorrow.

"Just a computer and a monitor," Willow replied breezily. "But I already have the G5 and the cinema display, not to mention the laptop, router, external drive--" Willow caught the befuddled look on Tara's face and promptly nipped her 'nerd-speak' in the bud. "Probably going to take a few hours to get my room IT guy ready," she summed up sheepishly.

"Oh," Tara said nodding, not quite understanding what all was involved with the set up, but impressed all the same. She took a quick breath and her brow furrowed, her mind switching gears. "You can still go to the party tonight though, right?"

"Oh yeah, totally," Willow said, pulling the strap of her bag over her shoulder. "I even went and bought new lipstick this afternoon," she added, bouncing on the balls of her feet a little and grinning widely, her tongue poking forward against her teeth.

"L-Lipstick?" Tara asked, pulling her gaze with great effort from Willow's mouth.

"Uh huh," Willow said, missing Tara's lusty look as she fished in the front pocket of her jacket for the makeup. She pulled the purchase free and read the bottom of the tube. "Vixen." She smiled brightly at Tara. "It's red," she added with a child-like grin.

"G-Great," Tara replied weakly. Vixen? The blonde thought, her heart fluttering. "The party's going to be c-casual, you don't have to d-dress up..."

"I figured," Willow said, her smile still bright. "But that doesn't mean my lips can't be fancy."

Fancy Willowlips... Tara thought, melting at the idea of the redhead's lips covered in a shiny, sumptuous gloss... Willow at the party, Willow working from home... oh god, I'm in trouble... Willow's forehead furrowed as she noticed Tara get lost in thought, and she looked closely at the blonde.

"Tara," Willow began gently, the blonde looking up, wide-eyed. "Are you sure this is okay?" The redhead paused slightly before continuing. "Me working at home I mean. I can always tell my boss no, share a conference room with Ti--"

"No, it's fine," Tara said reassuringly, reaching out and squeezing Willow's elbow. To her surprise, Willow reached up and squeezed her back.

"Okay," Willow said, as they simultaneously dropped their hands, both slightly blushing at the mutual squeeze. The redhead cleared her throat and internally congratulated herself on the slight touch. Yay! "So... are we still leaving at 8?"

"Yes," Tara nodded, taking a step backward to give both of them room to move. She swallowed hard, still feeling that return touch tingling on her elbow.

"Have you already eaten?" Willow asked hopefully. "Cause, if not--"

"I did, just a little bit ago," Tara said, wondering if noon really could be qualified as 'a little bit ago'. "I really should get back to my work..." she said apologetically.

"Oh, okay," Willow said, momentarily disappointed that they couldn't have dinner together but waving her hand in acceptance all the same. Relax, she told herself, you'll have all night with her... "So, I'll meet you here at 8?"

"Yup," Tara said, backing up toward her studio.

"Great," Willow said, following the blonde and then turning to take her first step up the stairs. "See you at 8 then."

Tara nodded and watched as the redhead disappeared up the stairs. The blonde turned to her studio and thought, sexy, red, fancy-- oh god... She sighed and closed the door behind her, immediately turning on the stereo and trying to forget how complicated her life was.

*************************

Hours later, a showered and made-up Tara pulled a red leather coat onto her body as she looked herself over in the mirror. She exhaled nervously and smoothed her hands down the front of her long skirt. She looked... nice, Tara thought. Really nice? She amended without confidence. Her hair was up in a loose bun, earrings dangling from her lobes, and a simple leather necklace with a silver pendant gracing the hollow of her neck. She brushed her hands over her stomach and quirked her lips, wondering if she should really go through with wearing this shirt. Sure it was pretty, and soft, but she knew that wasn't why she was wearing it. She was wearing it for Willow.

It was almost like a dare.

A dare for her to wear it, to pretend she hadn't selected it specifically in the hopes that Willow would continue with the recent slight touches on her arm, on her back. The velvet top begged for fingertips to brush over the material, and Tara was not-so-secretly hoping the redhead would be unable to resist its allure. Tara sighed again, remembering for the first time since she put the shirt on that she was hoping to spend time with Morgan tonight. Right. Morgan. She caught the frown on her face in the mirror and shook her head, giving her full reflection one more up and down. "Ready," she whispered to herself and nodded in reply. She opened the door, turned off the lights and exited toward the stairs.

She could hear Willow in the kitchen before she saw her, and she held her breath as she descended that last step. She turned the corner, and her held breath caught. Oh my god, Tara thought, her eyes practically dialated as she took in Willow's profile. Willow was gorgeous.

"Hey," Willow said smiling, her eyes trained on the remainder of the cut pear in front of her. "I'm just having a quick bi--" Willow looked up and the words dried up in her mouth. "Te," she finally croaked out. Standing before her was the most beautiful woman she had ever seen. She's gorgeous.

The two stood frozen for a long moment until Tara stammered out, "you look great."

Warmth spread through Willow's body and a blissful smile graced her lips. "Thanks," she replied, appreciating fully how the simplest compliment from the blonde could make her feel simultaneously at peace and on fire.

"The lipstick's um, a really nice shade," Tara said, quickly crossing the room, her head down.

"Thanks," Willow said again, noticing the silver ankle bracelet on the blonde's leg as she crossed toward the secretary table. Tara picked up her keys and after a silent, cleansing breath, turned back to the redhead.

"Ready?" She asked cheerily, noticing as she saw her roommate's full form for the first time since coming down the stairs that the redhead was wearing a pair of the most flattering, form-fitting dark jeans she had ever seen. Tara's eyes briefly took in Willow's red clogs and moved up her lithe form, appreciating the way the jeans' accentuated the curve of Willow's hips, the fabric cupping the girl's rear enticingly. The blonde's eyes continued upward quickly, noticing how the sheer red three-quarters length sleeve top covered a red spaghetti strapped tank. The redhead's lips glistened 'Vixen' red in the kitchen light and Tara swallowed hard. Oh god... she thought as she looked down, frantically wondering how in the hell she was supposed to concentrate on getting to know Morgan with Willow standing nearby looking like that...

"Sure," Willow said, pulling her own wandering, ardent thoughts away from the red, gold-inlaid sarong wrapped around Tara's curves, the shimmering material of the blonde's red top peaking out from beneath the lush red leather jacket. The redhead popped the last slice of pear in her mouth and placed the empty dish in the sink. "Let me just get my jacket," she said after she swallowed, crossing over to Tara's side to fetch her coat from the back of the secretary desk chair. "I really like your outfit," Willow said, her eyes immediately drawn to the blonde's top. "Your shirt--"

"It's velvet," Tara said, quickly looking down and then back up. "I got it in the Haight last year."

"It looks really soft," Willow said, using every ounce of her self-control to keep from reaching out and immediately caressing the fabric covering Tara's stomach. She looked up and met Tara's gaze.

"It is," Tara replied, hoping the redhead would ask to feel it. Maybe I should offer...?

The buzzer next to the door sounded and both girls jumped slightly, the tension between them seemingly paused instead of being disrupted, and Tara smiled sheepishly and moved to the box above the light switch.

"Yes?" The somewhat flustered blonde said into the speaker as she pressed the button.

"Luxor cab," came the heavily accented reply.

"Coming," Tara said, wincing slightly at her word choice before she turned and smiled at Willow, who was fiddling with her coat zipper. "Ready?" Tara asked again as she opened the door.

"Yup," Willow replied, walking out of the apartment, excited at the prospect of a Tara-filled evening. Tara took a deep breath, nervous about what the evening had in store for her and exited after the redhead, closing the door behind them and locking it with a resounding click.

Re: New Fic - Neverland

Postby ladydameon » Thu Oct 28, 2004 3:06 am

This is both exciting and painful. I swear, I've never seen anyone find new ways of adding pain and suffering to both the readers and the characters....

Great addition. I'll say its one of my favorite chapters. But I refuse to say your wonderful because you're driving me crazy. I am pleased at the length of the update, however.

Now, sooner or later one of them is just going to explode right? I mean the tension can only go so high, only go to a certain point before someone backs up, gives up or just goes for broke.

Is Morgan going to notice the attraction between them? If she is as smart as you make her seem, I would say yes. And Anya's going to be there right? I'm sure a blatant comment with come out of her mouth into Tara's ears.

Well thats all I've got for now....Sorry I haven't left feedback in a while - haven't been in the zone.

hmmm, morgan eh? i'm not sure she will be receiving that much attention at the party..! totally not complaining, cause it's kinda cool. Well if you're not morgan of course.

i almost, just almost i'm saying, can't wait for buffy to come back, cause well not that we really miss her, just you know, the coming out phases... so buffy come back soon!

and :luv , wow, i can really imagine the girls with their outfit and all, not surprising both of them couldn't speak much..! and where is this party, cause i wanna go too!!! i'll even paint myself in red if that's what it takes!!:laugh

i sure wouldn't be able to get my hands off this shirt, i always have to touch everything that is soft..it's like a disease i think, you should see me when i'm shopping...! and willow kinda seems attracted by it too eh? well, i think no one is gonna complain about that neither!!

ok so now i hope the next update will be the party, and not like "the ride in the cab to get to it", nor the walk to the cab to get to it", or.... you know, just...party please!

ok, i'm usually almost up at this hour, wich will explain the incoherent thoughts if there are any (gotta play safe, always have an excuse!:P ) but i still have to repeat myself:

:love i LOVE this story!!!!:love

so keep on pleasing us with it! thanks

Good morning,

I've been looking for this update for a few days. But believe me, I understand that you have a life and are writing amazingly quickly. So let me just say, thanks to the update. In answer to your question: I wouldn't consider it a hack--just creating a tool I needed to do my job better. But no, I didn't tell anyone that I have it.

So that's where the whole rat thing is going. Makes sense. Willow's a riot and you used a nice piece of misdirection with the whole "made a mistake" wfh/party thing. Very funny and now we are faced with two weeks of awkward 24/7 encounters. Of course by the end of the two weeks they should be together since we know that Buffy was only going to be gone 2 weeks and when she gets back, Willow is coming out to Sheila and Buffy. Either way, should work well.

Wow, they should be the hottest couple at the party! Too bad that they aren't just going together. That would be nice. I still say it looks like a disaster.

Who buzzed? Did they call for a cab and the buzz was the cab? I got lost there. Well done!

:wave

That was excellent. I loved the way you set that up. When willow was thinking about the yes she had blurted out, I really thought she was regreting the party. You had everyone fooled. Willow working at home was a complete surprise. I am sure I wasn't the only one who had to go back and re-read the begining of this chapter. That was brillant.:clap It was like we all was in Tara's shoes. That is talent.:bow

I love that Tara picked the velvet shirt so that Willow will keep touching her. Willow just needs to be alittle braver. Maybe a little alcohol at the party will fix that.;)

This line was my favorite:

Oh god... she thought as she looked down, frantically wondering how in the hell she was supposed to concentrate on getting to know Morgan with Willow standing nearby looking like that... :lol :lol :lmao

That line perfectly described how hot Willow must have looked. Tara is really in trouble now. And so is Morgan.

Willow working at home for 2 weeks will definately be interesting, especially after this party. I can't wait to see what happens at this party. You can just feel the tension. I think I read this whole chapter holding my breath.:shock

Love this story.

I have visions of the two of them, hot and naked and all with the smoochies for the entire 2 weeks that Willow is working from home. Because sometime during the party they can't resist anymore and jump each other's bones and don't emerge for the next 2 weeks. 2 weeks! That's 14 days of Willow-lovin' for Tara and over 330 hours of Tara-lovin' for Willow.

I also imagine Marissa leaving hundreds of voicemails and Willow's boss sending equal numbers of emails because simply, they get so wrapped up in each other that nothing else matters.

Yeah. I can wish.

This is a great story, please keep it up.

Easiersaid!!!!! You're a machead!! Or is it that Willow's a machead and you just wanted to stay true to her character? Either way...Macs are cool.

Aweome update. They're so cute. What with the wanting to be touched and the wanting to touch. And the anxiety.

Can't wait for more. Hopefully soonish?

ETA Oh and Neko Case? Great choice. She's great by herself and with the New Pornographers. Her voice is beautiful.

I can really see Tara liking her.

Your writing is amazing and today your update made a really bad day a little better for me.

That was awesome. :bow

It's a nice set up for a heck of an awkard party which should make a great read!

I started reading this story a few weeks ago when I was off work sick and have been hooked ever since. Thank you so much for saving me from day time TV and their endless supply of lie detector tests. It would be much more fun if they used them during the advertisements.

Seriously though, this is one of the best fic's I've read.

"Aunt Fiona, why do we support a football team that never scores?" - My nephew Ben after watching a Scotland soccer international. He makes a fair point.

Touch the damn shirt already! Hee-hee :D

I can't believe I thought Willow was going to cancel on the party, that was the third time in this fic I have fell for your clever deceptions. Bravo!

So Willow working at home for two weeks... this could be a very good thing. My imagination is already working overtime at the possibilities. Can't wait! Of course they still have a party to get through where so much could go wrong which could lead to an awkward two weeks and we're back to square one. I believe you have turned me in to a pessimist. Just kidding. :D

Great job, looking forward to the next chapter.
