Salem Witch Trials, koala bears, SpongeBob: what's on TV and at the movies!

So far this new season has been stunning. I loved the first season but it was a lot of ground work being set. Now the team are bonded and working together and it's great. Marsters was fantastic and hope to see him again soon. And as for Ianto... he and Tosh are so rapidly becoming the best characters. And Ianto and Jack... ahem...

Brilliant series, keeps getting better.

Meat - well, there's not been as much flesh on show since Countrycide!

It was good to see more of Rhys and it made me laugh again at times. Ianto has some great one-liners, and Jack has a couple that made me snigger :D It made me cry too, but that's because I'm a soppy mare.

This series is just so much better than last year.

Great episode!
Poor Space Whale. That made me sad. ot's frustrating that the villains essentially get awya with it but as Jack said, there isn't much else they could do about it.
Ianto continues to be the best thing since sliced bread and Tosh just keeps getting better and better?

Best line has to either be Jack's perfectly timed "well he seemed to enjoy it" or Ianto's "we could release a single".

Two episodes tonight (BBC 2 - Adam and BBC 3 - Reset).

The first had echoes of a Buffy episode, but with a Torchwood spin on it.
Superstar
It was good to learn more about Jack's back story...actually it's good to know anything about his pre-Jack life!!

The second had a certain Doctor Martha Jones turn up! :bounce :bounce She's the same old Martha, but seems more 'grown-up'. She's definitely over the Doctor. It was lovely to hear all the subtle Doctor Who references between Jack and Martha.

The ending was a bit of a shock, even though I knew it was coming at some point....
Owen's dead!
I really enjoyed both of them :D

So is this BBC2/BBC3 thing just a one-week deal? Does it mean we effectively don't get a new episode next week?

The person's nicer this year Nope, no new episode next week, which isn't good, but I'll be watching it again anyway

With this, Primeval and Ashes to Ashes, and the countdown to DW, things are very good.

And I'm booked to go to another Convention in July!

Guests announced so far:

    Peter Davison
    Colin Baker
    Terry Malloy
    Tony Head
    Georgia Moffat (PD's daughter who's in S4)
Chipo Chung (Chantho and a different character in S4)
    Kai Evans (Rhys)
    Tom Price (policemen in TW)

Primeval is ITV's answer to Torchwood, right? What's it like? And I've never heard of Ashes to Ashes.

The Gallifrey One convention is this weekend here in LA. This year's guests of honor are Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred. Alas, I'm not going. :happy

Primeval is silly, enjoyable nonsense :D It's on around 7pm so much lighter in tone than TW. 'Anomalies' open up and allow prehistoric creatures into the modern day. There's a team who chase round and send them back. The team is much less dysfunctional than the Torchwood team, but just as disorganised :D

Ashes to Ashes is great, it was the second episode tonight. Did you ever see Life on Mars? It's a sort of sequel to that - some of the same characters are in it. If you haven't seen it then try and catch it if you can - it's fantastic! DCI Sam Tyler (John Simm aka The Master!) is hit by a car in the present day and wakes up in 1973. I think there are plans for a US remake.

eta

I Wiki'd. Pilot is due to be shown Autumn 2008...probably. It's set in LA in 1972. Jason O'Mara is the Sam Tyler character, and Colm Meaney is Gene Hunt.

eta again

It's possible they may be 'previewing' the episodes on BBC 3 a week before they're shown on BBC 2 - so we might get to see them early after all :D

Well, I caught the first one but have not found the second one yet.

Actually while watching the first I thought of a completely different episode:

Spoiler:
Star Trek The Next Generation: Conundrum

But eh, it's not the first time buffy ripped of Star Trek! Right Bob.

Either way. I enjoyed the episode, but it's not a favorite one.

This season in general is really good and I like where it is going so far.

The Martha arc is now over, and I must say that...
I'm not liking the whole "Owen is dead" thing. :happy Just when I thought I'd run out of ways to dislike him, they throw this at us. :happy :happy It's icky, it focuses too much attention on him (did Martha even need to be in the latest episode?), and it can't be sustained. What are they going to do, keep putting more bandaids on him as he keeps cutting himself or breaking his bones?

They need to wrap up this story arc ASAP, if you ask me. Either kill him off completely or bring him back to life - I don't care which. Just do something.
I agree. The way things are now leaves me with nothing. Do one or the other, but not neither.

BUT that all said I think this is a fantastic season so far.

I've really enjoyed both episodes tonight. Very very different in tone :D

Dead Man Walking. No shock, it's Owen-centric, and reasonably talky (for Torchwood) but it was good. I'm sad that Martha's gone now, but I think she'll be back :D
I like the way it was almost all shown in flashback, interspersed with Owen on the rooftop.
Something Borrowed. Mad as a box of frogs!!! Completely different from the last few, and the better for it, as a change. Did I mention it's barmy? :D I think people may either love it or hate not - but probably not to the degree of L&M ;)
Photos of married Jack!
Next week looks very creepy. It's PJ Hammond's (Sapphire & Steel) episode, he also wrote Small Worlds last year (the one with the faeries). Julian Bleach is in it, he looked creepy in the trailer.

So I take it you mean more like The Ring than The Purple Rose of Cairo?

Small Worlds was my favorite episode last year, so that sounds very promising.

I enjoyed From Out of the Rain but I did find it a little disappointing. It was spooky...but not quite spooky enough.

I've just watched Adrift on BBC3, my God it was bleak. Heart-breaking but overall brilliant.

I sobbed.

Fragments on BBC 3.

I enjoyed Torchwood last year but I feel like this is a completely different show. Almost every episode is brilliant, and this is no exception. :)

It's almost all told in flashback, and shows the way the Torchwood team came together - including the pterodacty!
Tosh's story was a bit surprising. We get to see the dark side of UNIT, it's the complete opposite of the cosy Captain Yates and Sargeant Benton.

Ianto's story was the funniest, I'm so glad he's getting more to do this year.

And we get Victorian lesbians as well!!
The downside is that it's two weeks to the Finale. It's on 4th April, the day before DW starts.

The Finale...
I cried so much :cry I knew they were going to die but it was still sad. Owen is finally gone (probably) but I very much doubt he would be able to get out of the place he was trapped in. I didn't want Tosh to die, but she did it well.

Capt John was great and I really hope JM comes back, even if it's just in the occasional guest role.
Doctor Who starts tonight, I thinks it's a light-hearted episode which is a great relief after last night!!

WOW!

That was something else. They were great episodes, but very, very sad too.

One was fine, but the other was a suprise.

Any idea when Series 3 starts up? Cause I really, really enjoyed this season.

Series Three has been confirmed but rumours vary from another thirteen episodes to a more child-friendly five episode series fronted by Gwen and Martha (but no Jack).

RTD has apparently confirmed it will be on BBC 1 rather than BBC 2. That's higher profile but there's a worry it will lose its 'edge' by being on a more mainsteam channel.

It's likely to start filming August onwards, after Doctor Who has finished.

For now, take it with a pinch of salt ;)

I've heard all that as well...I dunno about a "Jack-less" Twood? Or, a "Sarah Jane Adventures" version of the show...But, I do know that Martha Jones is returning...And, that's good by me!

I doubt that they'll take away it's edge...Did you see the Dr. Who season finale scenes with the Torchwood actors...Hardly "edge-less".

And, even if they tried...The fans would lose it; and get all the BBC bigwigs that wanted "the changed" canned!

I'm not about to worry about Twood...Just yet...

Now, Dr. Who...That's a different story. They keep changing female leads each season...Weird...

Really bad vibes girls and girls...(And boys, if yer out there?)... :paranoid

WARNING....

This post is full of spoilers for the new season of Torchwood...Read at your own risk...And, it's not good news either:
It seems that the new season of Torchwood won't be a season at all...It'll be a mini-series. Entitled Children of the Earth. Five episodes only!?!? :gnome

And, Freema will NOT be a part of the new season, despite the inference from the Dr. Who season finale. She's taken a lead role in a new series outside the BBC franchise called "Law & Order"(No relation to the US show.) :mad :rage

Shooting for the new "season" of Twood has already begun. It's US air date for BBCAmerica remains unknown at this time. :fit2

This...This just sucks... :cry
I know this may sound lame or whatever, but I'm sooooo excited about Torchwood. The first season is on air in Germany now... Lol, I know we are way late. Anyway, I'm really digging this show and just can't seem to stop watching it, even if they show it at the most unholy times ;)

I've been to Cardiff twice this year and going again in July, which always makes me go like "Oh, I've been there"... :) Yep, about the best thing I've seen on tv, since CSI:NY, which you can't compare to Torchwood, but well... It's awesome. Love ya british people! :x
