Hello all, thanks for reading. I'm noticing from feedback that CBW seems to be entertaining.

Oh so happy to hear that. But I'll pause now for a bit of Pathways and Patterns.
Enjoy! And this one is cliffy as well but you'll also get the first glimpses......Oh read, I don't want to spoil.
Chapter 24
The silent calm of the wilderness evaporated slowly into the shadows as the whispering winds of night spread across the ground. The chill snaked like fingers between the weathered cracks, pressing the bitter edge of nightfall into the darkened room.
Willow watched small tears slip slowly down her daughter’s cheek. “Shh Abbey, it’s okay. Mommy is coming; she’ll find us…always.”
Tiny green eyes bulged with fear begging to wake from the terror of the surroundings. The redhead struggled against her racing heart, feeling with every beat, the growing intensity of her anger. Her mind flashed quickly through her history with magic, searching for an incantation. Every thought returned her to the desolate space of the cabin.
“Abbey girl?” The child nodded, acknowledging the voice of her mother. “Roll over so I can unwrap your hands.”
Slowly she inched her body over, wincing as the coarse fibers of the rope webbing rubbed against her arms. They lay together, back to back; snaking their bodies closer struggling to connect flesh to flesh.
Willow twisted her arms contorting herself close enough to reach the binding. Her fingers spindled around scraping against the seams of tape, flicking against the edge, desperately trying to release her daughter.
Abbey blinked at the sight of the cabin walls. Slowly scanning the room, silently wondering where she was. Her eyes clamped hard, forcing the desolate image from her mind. Over and over she begged to be safe. Begged to be in the warm comfort of her mother’s bed. Begged to be in the soft embrace of the slayer’s arms. Begged to be anyplace but between the dank walls of the haunting room.
Tears fell freely as the dark reality reappeared before her opening eyes, her sadness twitching against the coarse ropes.
Willow desperately unraveled the tape, freeing the binding from her wrists. The tiny body rotated in an instant catching the red head off guard. Throwing herself around her mother, smothering her tape covered lips across the soft skin of her face. Abbey pulled it sharply unaware of the pain that would follow. Her screams echoed through the cabin, squeezing through the cracks in the walls, billowing out into the desolate night.

“Hey!” Anya pointed into the adjoining room. “Hey!….Hey!” The group of people crowded around the door, forcing Anya through the opening. The blonde staggered catching her balance against the table.
“What?” Xander stared with confusion, shifting his eyes back and forth across the room.
Dawn looked down at the bed, “Where’s Brenda?”
“Hello! That’s what I was saying.” Anya snapped at the crowd, pointing out the very obvious. “She’s gone.”
“Well where the hell did she go now?” Dawn moved through the group stopping in front of the sleeping child. “She left him here? How could she just leave him?”
*********************
A hard course of shadows stretched across the darkened path. The tall umbrella of light flowed overhead dimpling the ground with a patchwork of luminescence. Seconds paced the pause between broken glances of gloom, marking the call of distress, screaming for help like a seaman’s code.
Pounding footfalls beat a steady rhythm, trampling the edge of the past, fronteering a way to the future. Left and right each shoe clomped down on the street, unsteady, unsure of a destination.
Her arms pumped a frightened pattern shifting against her tiring pace, her head screaming for freedom, her body fighting against gravity. The beat of her heart throbbed against the desperate run. Struggling to erase every image of violence and pain, she forced the ragged pace.
Without knowing, without needing, without conscience; running into the night.
*****************************
“Why isn’t it working?” The slayer stared coldly at the flickering screen. “Password…it wants a password.” She turned the laptop toward the blonde; shouting frustration with the glare in her eyes.
“I don’t know the password. What key did you hit?” Tara thought for a moment running the possible choices through her mind. “Try Abbey’s birthday.”
The slayer pounded the numbers into the machine. “Nope, not it.”
The blonde nipped at her bottom lip, shuffling a list of dates through her mind. “Try mine.”
Buffy entered the date. “Hmm, nope…not doing it either.” The screen flickered and flashed at the improper entry. “I’ll try Will’s.” An alarm sounded at the third incorrect entry. Green text flashed a warning on the screen. The program shut down.
“Oh goddess, we need to restart.” Tara buried her fear struggling with the stubborn computer in front of her. Momentarily distracted from the looming thoughts of her wife and daughter. Lost, if only briefly, in the complexities of the cyber unknown. “Oh Willow…what would you use.”
********************
“So what do we do with him?” Anya stared coldly at the sleeping child. “Call Tara.” They backed out of the room, quietly closing the door.
“What is she thinking?” Xander smirked. “Because we need to be looking for her too?”
***********************
“Mom, where are we?” Innocent eyes glared unknowingly at her mother. She scanned the length of the red head’s form taking in the desperate situation. She was smart, knowing that this was not a game, all to aware of the danger they were in. Still her 5-year-old mind focused on the positive. “Can I call to mommy?”
“I tried Abbey girl.” Willow stared at the child, franticly trying to hide her fear. “Untie my hands, and you and I can try together.”
She picked at the folded edge of the tape seam, anxiously unraveling the wrappings. Willow felt the adhesive grip the finite hairs on her wrist, wincing at the sudden pain. Abbey felt the twitch against her fingers stopping immediately.
Her tiny face crumbled. Filling with pain and shame. Willow recognized the look, so many times in their blossoming relationship; she’d seen that same expression in her wife.
Through tears she asked, “Did I hurt you mom?” Her face folded against the bend of her arm.
Willow forced the tape, ripping it sharply from her skin, immune to her own pain. “Never!” She wrapped herself around the child. “Never…I love you and you didn’t hurt me.” Her heart raced with anguish, watching the devastation grow in her daughter’s eyes, fearing in that moment their relationship had changed. Feeling in that solitary exchange the separation between innocence and knowing.
Willow pulled away looking into the fragile expression. “I’m going to get us out of here.” Forcing a smile, Willow unwrapped the binding from their ankles.
Abbey stared at the thick length of chain. “What about that?”
“I’m not sure yet.” Willow forced a smile. “One thing at a time.”
**************************
“Stop.” Tara grabbed the slayer by the shoulder. “We’re doing this wrong. She wouldn’t use such obvious dates and if we keep this up we’ll get locked out of the program.”
“What do you mean?” Buffy stared with confusion wondering how Tara knew anything about Willow’s programming.
“I’m pretty sure too many incorrect passwords will lock us out.” Tara watched Buffy, the wrinkles of her forehead bending deep with confusion. “Basic security measure.”
Buffy smiled. “And you know this because?”
A sparkle of love spread slowly across her face, “I’m in love with a babbling hacker.”
“I’ve noticed that. It’s really sorta hard to miss.”
Tara turned toward the window, staring out into the darkness. “Where are they Buffy? I don’t really know Donnie, I never did. He could have taken them anywhere.”
“Think for a minute Tara. What’s the password? Once we have that, we’ll find them” Buffy held her shoulders forcing the blonde to focus on her wife. “You know Tara. You know everything. Your heart knows everything about her, listen to it.”
*******************
“Tara’s phone goes right to voicemail.” Anya ended the call, frustrated by the technology. “These things never work when you need them.”
“Should we go out after her?” Xander watched dawn shake her head as Anya nodded. Making the tough choice. “Dawn, you stay here with him, we’re going back to the apartment.”
Xander raced out the door, without hesitation, Anya following quickly behind them. Dawn shifted a few strands of hair, tucking them tightly behind her ear. She watched the child, remembering her mother’s death. How alone she felt, knowing she’d never have the comfort of her warm embrace.
She rested on the bed beside him. Wondering how he could sleep through all the commotion. Realizing he’d probably witnessed more and slept through worse. She closed her eyes, drifting off, wishing, and hoping they’d all return.
“So.” Buffy stared at the blonde, watching her face change with each passing thought.
Tara stared at the computer watching the warning screen flash. Knowing in that moment exactly what the password was. Frantically she tapped the keys of the laptop. Her pinky slipped to press enter.
“What’s the beeping?” Buffy watched as the screen flickered blue.
Tara turned toward her, biting nervously on the soft edge of her lip. “Low battery.”
*****************
Willow worked quickly unwrapping the tape from their ankles. Abbey lowered her legs over the edge of the framework, slowly dropping to the floor. The bitter chill of the night air drifted down among her feet. Sending an icy shiver through her tiny frame.
The red head dropped the bundled tape to the floor, rubbing the raw flesh around her ankles. The cold Steele of the chain held tight against her skin. “Abbey lets try to lift the bed from the floor and see if we can get out of here.”
