I second that 'awwww....' !

Great update, Willow seems to be all with the 'Woo-Hoo', and all is of the good - at the moment! Whats up with Ghaena and that damn crow?!

“Is it okay if I kiss her?”

And that got me all teary-eyed. Awesome update! The girls did great and glad the baby is okay – at least for now. I also loved the gang’s dialogue as they waited. And I like that Sheila is included and seems so cool about it all – very nice.

Thanks! :)

It reads a little too fast for my liking...

So sit tight... enjoy the other faboo fics on the board and rest assured that this little tale is far from over.

Thanks for the update, I can sleep easy tonight knowing Willow has gone through all that! I think I broke out in sympathy pains!! I'm sure I could feel the whole Kitten Board pushing along with Willow!

Re: Update..finally...

Postby VampNo12 » Mon Jun 24, 2002 9:35 pm

Oh DarkWiccan this update was fantastic! First I must say I love Anya in this part always willing to over-share, and I loved this line ("increasing water temperature is for birth, creating a dish that no one will ever eat is for death".) its so true. Emily and Joseph were adorable, and I especially liked how she conveyed her doubts about being a big-sis to her friend.

Finally it looks like that Ghaena has taken care of that damn bird, and I must say when Willow was going through her long labor I truly felt for her. Also must agree and say it was ironic how now in the throes of labor Willow is too relaxed, compared to the way she was acting previously being pregnant (ie nervous).

Lastly, the awwww moment was the image of Willow holding Michelle with Tara rocking both Willow and the baby in her arms (both with tears of joy in their eyes), truly a beautiful scene. Also I am glad Sheila was present, and I thought it was sweet how she knew Willow was tired, and decided to take Emily out for breakfast (loved the choice of a banana spilt, with Tara saying "And your eating two vegetables for dinner tonight".). And finally Emily wanting to kiss Michelle was a very lovely gesture, especially considering Emily has been having pangs of jealously. Take your time for the next part, this story is worth the wait!

They have a blonde baby - that's so lovely. And glad to see Shiela isn't as priggish as she previously had been. Banana split for breakfast. My kinda breakfast!

Replies...

Postby DarkWiccan » Tue Jun 25, 2002 1:24 pm

Whew.... well... after writing that section I felt like *I* was the one giving birth... I am worn out...

okay... My reply shall me an address "en mass"...

First off, as I mention earlier, the updates are now going to significantly slow down. I open in a new show tomorrow night... the show I'm producing opens in two weeks... and things at the day job just got a little more interesting with an unexpected promotion... so BUSY is my key word...

Also, as I said before... I am not as happy as I'd like to be with this last post... I may go back through and do a few rewrites... the events won't change... but I felt this read a little too fast and lacked enough descriptive sections.

Thanks to everyone offering smooches (:blush ) and "awwws" and "woo-hoos" and so forth. :grin

The big comment aside from "that damn bird" seems to be on the length of Willow's labor. Yup, I put her through the wringer.. but I had a good reason (in my own twisted mind)... in "NMWYG" Tara had a difficult (as in complicated) pregnancy so I gave her an easy birth. I felt that I had thrown in so much angst with her almost losing Emily twice that it was only fair to make the birth a humorous and even (comparitively) pleasant event. Willow (though nervous) had a very normal, uncomplicated pregnancy... so I gave her a hard time with delivery.

There are other reasons I stretched things out as well... in "NMWYG" I had no real conflict going on during Tara's pregnancy other than Willow being protective of her family so there were not as many loose ends that needed to be addressed, there were also no where near as many characters around. I had to have Will's labor take a long time just so that *I* had enough time to get everyone where they needed to be and have dialogue and move the plot forward.

And the final reason I put everyone's fave redhead through torture... I hate and love watching Willow cry. I hate it because I despise seeing her in pain. I love it because it is just such a tangible image that always strikes right at home in the heart. When I first started working on this story I had a vision of her in labor and just ripped up (not literally, figuratively.. jeez, people..I'm not evil)... By ripped up I mean in pain, exhausted, sweaty with the tears and it was just so vivid,(I had dreams, folks... it was weird), I had to write it.

and as for "that damn bird"... maaaybe it's gone and maaaaybe it isn't. (okay, so perhaps I am a little evil :evil )

Until next time!

Cheers

DW, I love the way you have these charaters down, and Willow..well, if I put a quarter in da slot can I watch your dreams? (Ok, that came out more freaky than it sounded it my head) But I agree with you on Willow and I know sometimes it's hard to descibe a really vivid dream cuz of the feeling it also portrays, although you do a great job writing it down. Oh, oh oh, i also wanted to tell you that i got to read Seeing the Light I give it Two Thumbs Up. I loved the ending *sniff* it was so sad and so wonderful at the some time... ;)

just caught up...

Postby KathleenWolf » Thu Jun 27, 2002 11:41 am

Oh my... I just caught up with the last few updates... bad me for being so behind but bravo to you for such wonderful work...

There is so much I could say about Willow and the baby (but most of it has been covered)... I have to say what I was most impressed by was your portrayal of Tara in terms of both being there wholeheartedly for Willow but on the same hand having her own reservations about Will just getting on with it... I especially liked her horror at being seen as on a pedastel as some pregnant earth goddess...

As for the bird... I love the line of 'burn it please'... gives such forboding and should spark questions from the Slayer when the time is right I am sure...

and as for five year olds plotting world domination... always be very afraid of the little ones... :D

thank you so much for sharing this wonderful tale with us

Here We Go!

_________________________

“Thanks for the ride home, Xander”, said Willow as she carefully stood up out of the car, cradling the barely 10-hour old Michelle in her arms.

“No problem”, the young man replied, walking around the front of his ’08 Chevy station wagon. “I’m just surprised that you wanted to come home so soon, not to mention impressed that you’re actually, ya know, walking.”

Tara and Emily had by now left the car and made it up to the front porch of their house where they were in the process of unlocking the door as Willow and Xander came up behind them.

“We had originally planned on staying at Buffy’s for a couple days”, Tara explained as she let everyone inside. “But with Michelle deciding to come a little early, we hadn’t had the opportunity to get everything we would have needed over to her house.”

“I’m going to put her down”, Willow softly announced, carrying the sleeping newborn into her and Tara’s bedroom where they had set-up a small bassinet where Michelle would be sleeping for the first few weeks. The two women were more than aware of how irregular a infant’s sleep patterns can be, and they didn’t want Emily to have to suffer through late-night feedings and potential bouts of cholic.

Xander nodded as he watched his best friend disappear down the hall. “Do you guys need anything?” He asked Tara.

“Actually, that depends on Emily”, the blonde replied, kneeling down to eye-level with her daughter. “Emily”, she said, “How would you like to spend tomorrow night at Uncle Xander’s?”

“Why?” the little redhead queried, her tone worried and confused.

“Because tomorrow is Sunday and a school night and I want to make sure that you get a full night’s rest”, Tara illuminated. “Your little sister will probably be doing a lot of crying and I don’t want her to keep you up.” What the wiccan left unspoken was that she knew that she and Willow would need a couple of days to get used to having a new baby and assemble a sort of routine for dealing with Michelle’s needs without leaving Emily feeling neglected. “Besides”, she continued, “How often do I let you spend a school night at your best friend’s house?”

“Never”, Emily confirmed.

“So, consider yourself lucky”, the blonde smiled. “You’ll be here tonight and you’ll see what a fuss a new baby can make and then you’ll be thanking me.”

“Maybe…” the girl drifted off, suddenly suspicious of her mommy’s motivations.

“Sweetheart”, Tara said, trying to thwart any feelings of misgiving she sensed her daughter may be having, “You’re my baby and your Mama and I love you. We just want to make sure that you’re taken care of during these first couple of days while we get used to having your sister around, okay? We don’t want you to think that we’re forgetting about you or that Michelle is more important than you are, because you are equally important to us.”

“Okay, Mommy”, Emily answered, shuffling her feet a little.

“So is that okay, Xander?” Tara asked, rising to her feet, “Can she stay with you tomorrow night?”

“Sure thing. Joseph will be thrilled”, he smiled.

“You’ll make sure she gets to school okay in the morning?”

“Consider it done”, Xander guaranteed. “I’d better get back. Buffy and Dawn are going to want a full report on the car ride over here. Did Michelle wake up, did Michelle make any cute little noises, did Michelle prove Einstein’s theory of relativity? You know… they’re obsessing on the new baby goodness.”

“Well, you’d better get back then”, Tara encouraged, a joking grin on her lips. “They must be waiting on tinder hooks.”

Xander gave the other woman a warm hug, kissing her on the cheek before pulling away. “Congratulations”, he smiled softly. He leaned over and ruffled Emily’s hair, “See you tomorrow, kiddo.”

“Bye, Uncle Xander”, she said, giving a small wave.

The carpenter stepped back onto the front porch and paused. “Oh hey”, he said, leaning down to pick up an unopened envelope that lay on the wooden floor of the decking, “I guess the postman must have dropped this.” He handed to Tara. “Well, I’m gone. See you later.”

“Thanks, Xander”, she said, calling after him. She inspected the envelope. The return address said Sunnydale Elementary School. “Emily, go and play in your room for a little while”, she instructed, “I’ll call you when dinner’s ready.”

Emily nodded and skipped off to her room. Tara opened the envelope and read:

To the Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s) of Emily Rosenberg-Maclay,

As the head guidance counselor for Sunnydale Elementary School I am very pleased to inform you that due to your child’s above-average test scores on the recent skills and aptitudes survey conducted at this school I would very much recommend her promotion to the next grade level.

Please contact me as soon as you are able so that we may begin to discuss and facilitate your child’s promotion.

Regards,

Charlotte Geary

Guidance Counselor

A huge grin of joy and surprise streaked across Tara’s face. She quickly shut the front door and hurried into the bedroom to tell her wife the good news, but came to a screeching halt when she found Willow passed out asleep on the bed, the exhaustion of the day once again overwhelming her.

Oh well, the blonde thought, I’ll tell her later. She leaned over the bassinet to observe their baby, still sleeping, just as tired as her Mama from the extensive labor. Tara delicately stroked the tiny infant’s downy soft blonde hair, letting out a soft sigh of contentment before leaving the two sleeping angels and going to the kitchen to prepare dinner.

The kitchen window looked out over the front lawn, and as the blonde set to work inside, a pair of small black beady eyes observed her from across the way.

The raven was broken, but not dead. It hobbled painfully across the grass along the sidewalk. It held up its right wing, observing the hole left by a missing feather. It shook its little black head, in a manner that could have suggested disgust. It paused, almost seeming as though it was focusing intently on something, then suddenly a deep purple haze surrounded it, then dissipated. The bird, now healed, took flight.
