It's animal obsession Tuesday Miss Kitty 11/26/02

Postby mollyig » Tue Nov 26, 2002 12:54 am

Woke up with a strange compulsion [b:d694380df5][i:d694380df5](blame Tulipp!)[/i:d694380df5][/b:d694380df5] to start a daily thread, so here goes -

It's a little known fact that I have a very slight obsession with penguins. I think the reason is that when I was a child Guinness used a penguin to advertise their fine product and my grandmother used to give Guinness to me when my parents weren't about. So that probably explains the penguin obsession, and maybe some other things too! [img:d694380df5]http://homepage.eircom.net/~mollyig/stretch.gif[/img:d694380df5]

I have all sorts of penguins, from candle holding penguins to penguin cigarette lighters (owned by the woman who despises smoking), 4 penguin mugs, 6 penguin money banks - the list goes on and on and . . .

So have any of you Kittens got similar little fascinations? Or am I just mad? Or both? [img:d694380df5]http://homepage.eircom.net/~mollyig/winkgreen.gif[/img:d694380df5]

And for a W/T question, what animal do you think they would find interesting. I'm guessing Willow would stay away from frog-related objects.

Well... this is an interesting thread. I don't have a thing for animals. But my two aunts have. One of them collects all kinds of duck related stuff... including the all famous rubber ducky! Plus it's easy for me to buy presents for her cos well... her likes stick out a mile out... or basically...sometimes... she walks around with a sign on her forehead saying "I love Duckies!".

My other aunt... is a fanatic over Frogs... she has all kinds of frogs all over the house... I'm not that much a frog fan... good thing those frogs aren't alive. But the most amusing frog thing she has to me is her Kermit the Frog phone. I feel bloody stupid talking to someone face to face with Kermit the frog staring with his mouth open..i have to speak through his..uhm... mouth which makes it like... oh my... I'm almost kissing a frog... ewww... :lol

For me, it's mostly river otters. I love them. I love that they will spend hours and hours climbing up the banks of a river just to slide down into the water on their bellies. No reason, other than that it's fun. I have little river otter figurines and puzzles and calendars and books....and....I just really love them, okay? :shy

And I love dolphins. How could I not? I got to touch a dolphin once and that's been one of the most beautiful and moving experiences of my life.

I love elephants, too. I was so excited to come across The White Bone by Barbara Gowdy. It's about a group of elephants on the run from poachers and their quest for a mythical object that will keep them safe. But, it's pretty much unbearable to read if you love elephants. Things...happen... :cry

My girlfriend collects cows. Anything and everything that is a cow. The only thing we're missing is a real one in the back garden! Cuddly toys, ornaments, real looking ones, cartoon ones. In America we slept under a cow spotted cover! She is currently back in Kansas finding more MooMoo stuff! And I am buying her Cow parade cows over here for Christmas! I can't help it, she loves them! She grew up on a farm though and helped raise the calfs. Makes a change from a pig fascination!
Me? I collect Pokemon.....not exactly real animals! Or dragons, oh, they aren't real either! Stick to the cows!

MaClayMagic, your gf sounds like a very smart woman!

Yeah, I'm into cows myself. I don't really have one in my appartment, but I do have a framed pic of one on my desk.

It's a thing...

Hmm I don't really have an animal obsession, though a few years back when my friends found out that I have a fear of chickens they just HAD to buy me many 'lil chicken toys :rolleyes My main *silly* obsession is with snow globes, I just love them and an aim is to get one from at least one place in each of the continents. Other than that it's just trinkets of any animals, bears, elephants, puppies cows and of course the Kinder Surprise-ish toys...Yes, I know, mock, laugh, feel free.

Willow and Tara's animal obsession? Kittens, obviously :) They could go through and name them all 'Miss Kitty .....', each with a different last name! Oh the possibilities.

Well one more day off then the final exam on Thursday and then the final day on Friday! Thank God, then my school year of 2002 is over!

What a neat thread idea, mollyig! I have lots of little animal obsessions, rather than one big one.

Cats - this is a "duh" one, because I'm a cat person and there's never been a time in my life when I didn't have at least one cat as a pet. Right now I'm a foster mom for abandoned/abused cats. I have a cat calendar, and a couple little candle-holders and things, and of course a grey cat named Spike who is currently sleeping at my feet.
Hummingbirds - My nickname in college was The Mighty Hummingbird (it's a long story, don't ask) so ever since then I've had a soft spot for them. I've got a hummingbird poster and am working on a hummingbird cross-stitch to hang on my wall. My personal web site, back when I actually had one, had a hummingbird theme.
Pigs - Just stuffed pigs though. I think they're cute. My high school boyfriend got me one as a gift one time, just an out-of-the-blue present for no reason, which was pretty much the only nice thing that jackass ever did for me but that's a whole other story. He (the pig) is my favorite stuffed animal and he always travels with me. My parents brought me another one not too long ago from a trip to Chicago, and now the two pigs are inseparable. I think they tell each other jokes when I'm not in the room.
Frogs - There was an "incident" in college where I heard a frog cry - yes they actually cry, has anyone else ever heard them? - and it sounded horrible and I felt so bad for the poor frog, and ever since then I've really liked the ugly little things, unlike Willow. ;) It's mostly residue sympathy, I suspect.

As for W/T, other than the obvious "cat" answer, I can see Tara having an obsession with graceful animals, like dolphins or swans. Or perhaps mythical animals like dragons or unicorns or mermaids (heh heh). Willow, of course, likes dogs. I also think she has a soft spot for wolves (left over from the relationship with Oz) and maybe a stereotypically "smart" animal, like owls. Or duck-billed platypuses, just 'cause they're the "outcasts" of the animal community and Willow would feel sorry for them.

Molly! You made my day!

Here's a little something for you, although probably you already have this and many more sites like it linked....

Penguin Cam.

As for me, well I'm sorta with the cow people. I just recently bought a stuffed cow for two women friends of mine who just had a baby, but I haven't wrapped it. I can't bear to let it go. I think it may have to just be mine.

And sadly, it wouldn't be the first stuffed animal intended for a baby that ended up in my house. I have a stuffed gorilla named Bruce acquired in a similar way.

Speaking of animal obsessions, one of my cats has the equivalent of a teddy bear....a little furry tail on a pink fishing pole. She brings it to bed every night and takes it downstairs again every morning. Sometimes we find her crooning at it, kind of moaning in a mothering cat kind of way.

As for Willow and Tara, I'm going to say "what Pipsqueak said" because it was perfect. :)

Well, Im not sure I would call it an obsession, but I do have a lot of turtle related items. One of my former girlfriends decided I was somewhat turtle-like insofar as being shy and retreating into a shell when confronted by something fearful. She also said something about me having a tough exterior but being very soft and vulnerable inside, hence the turtle motif.

Im sure Willow would shy away from frogs, horses and spiders, but she would probably feel protective towards razorback pigs (remembering how the Sunnydale mascot was slaughtered by the Pack). I could see Tara possibly having an affection for unicorns and other mythological creatures. After the way the Amy situation turned out, Im not sure how they would feel towards rodents, but I think they would both be cat and dog fanciers.

I am just going to whine and thank god there's power at work. I woke up in the middle of the night to 80 mph wind gusts last night. It knocked the power right out and we had one of our young trees break :( When I woke up there was still no power... grrr... but it should be back up today.

Happy day kittens! And banners.. changing. hmm..

The banners threw me for a minute. It's like coming home to a completely different driveway. Or something.

Re: animals. I don't have any fixations, but my first college roommate (who lasted exactly one semester) had about 30 different stuffed ostriches. She arranged them carefully on her bed every morning. It made me a little nutty.

Cool new banner xita. Makes for a bit of a lighter board.

As for animal obsessions, I don't really have one in particular, but I do still have animal posters that I started collecting when I was in kindergarten all over the walls of my room. I think I need to do a makeover but I can't seem to take all the cute animals off my walls.

Eek, Xita. Sorry to hear no juice at home. *steals batteries out of Xita's other... uh, appliances, and tries futilely to make her computer work*

Geez, Xita. These are dead. In fact, ALL the batteries in your house are dead. What on earth have you been doing with them?

Fun morning for me, too. I woke up to a flat tire. Lucky for me my sexy butch girl (who is by far sexier with grease on her hands, fyi) didn't mind being late to work to change it for me.

Hey, nice new banner! Did a major doubletake when I logged onto the board. "Aroo?" It's nice to have a Kittenish reminder of where the goodness originated. Sigh. Who's the responsible party for that one? Praise to be doled out. Panties to be flung. And so forth.

Oh, and daily thread question? That's easy. Heffalumps.

Hi,

Love the new banner. muchos respect to artist in residence.

As for todays thread:...er.. sheep.
My friends bought me a blow up sheep as a joke once, and my parents found it, and quite naturally assumed that I had a thing for sheep. That xmas I got sheep pajamas, sheep posters about three different kinds of 'shaun the sheep' toys and various other gifts.

Now if they only knew what the blow up sheep was supposed to be used for ....I wonder if they..er. no lets not go there.

Ever since I got to take the class rabbit home in the 4th grade, I've had a thing for bunnies. To me, they're just so cute and fluffy. For all the reasons Anya hates bunnies (think OMWF song), I love them.

I don't own any yet, but when I get a house, with a good backyard/patio area, I'm getting a couple of rabbits and dogs (probably a lab retriever and a german shep).

As for W/T...obviously kittens, and probably pretty tropical fish. Tara would probably want a horse...and we all know she'd be able to cure Willow of her pony fear.

Nice new look z.
As for my animal obsession, well it would have to be for my two Chow Chows. They are my kids and I spoil them rotten. They have complete run of the house and I am so thankful that my gf puts up with this little obsession and really likes my babies, they adore her as much as I do. That reminds me, I have to go pick up their Thanksgiving special dinner and treats.

Well, just had to chime in with a "Lovely Banners!" comment. Really lovely, xita! :)

As for animal obsessions... hm... well, when I was a kid, I collected anything and everything that had a horse on it. Pictures, blankets, statues, music boxes, t shirts, etc, etc. You name it, I probably had one with a horse on it somewhere.

And for W/T... I think anything cute or cuddly, they'd like. Maybe koala bears. ;)

Have a good day, everyone!

This probably doesn't qualify as an animal obsession, but I have soapstone bookends in the shape of snarling foo dogs. They're there to protect my books, not the temple.

I am a bit obsessive about my pets, though. Definitely large with the lesbian-pet-mommy stereotype. I've always been a cat person, but my gf bought a dappled dachshund puppy, and I'm smitten with him. Even though he chews on everything and has yet to master the housebreaking, all he has to do is give me that devoted look with his little brown eyes, and I forgive every naughty thing that he's done.

Postby Mrs Vertigo » Tue Nov 26, 2002 11:31 am

I'm currantly quite obsession free - a temporary state, I promise you. I used to have a cat thing, though, how very not lesbian of me :) . And when I say 'thing' I mean my room was a shrine covered with cat posters, stuffed animals, cat books, cat hair, and of course, well, cats. I had two full albums of cat photos and used to make up stories about my cats that nowadays kinnda scare me. I know things about cats that aren't even really decent for a vet to know. I was a freak. I had cat everything. T'was my trademark. I used to like them better than people, much better. :)

But that's all in the past now, all that's left is a really heavy bookshelf of cat-info.

And ps, Xita, I seem to have a lingering attachment to the old banners... sorry. Though these are lovely, too, I'm sure I'll grow fonder of them. :) It's nice to know you pay attention to those small things. Kinnda heart-warmy. And since it's w/t it's also, well, you know, other-places-warmy. :wink

Xita, both the Kitten and Pens banners are wow, just lovely!

As for animal obsessions for me it's cats! I have two cats who are my "children", plus tons of cats of the stuffed animal variety (love Garfield), cat porcelain figurines, cats on cups, cat calendars, shirts with cats on them, and etc.

My best friend has a cow obsession (ie find and object/picture of a cow, and she must have it :) )!
