Its Monday afternoon and no daily thread MKF 11/18

Postby Rosenberg » Mon Nov 18, 2002 10:18 am

OK, its after 1:00 in the afternoon here and I still dont see a daily thread which somehow seems wrong to me. Has everyones weekend been that uneventful? In order to correct this oversight, I guess Ill start a thread, just because it wouldnt be right not to have one.

I dont have a whole lot to say, so let me see if I can come up with a W/T question of the day. Hmmmwhat do you suppose Willow and Tara watch on TV Tuesday evenings? Ill go for the History Channel or the Discovery Channel especially if theyre showing something about koala bears.
Oh, and do you think they would go to see the new Harry Potter movie, and if so, what would they think of it?

I think they watch naked-from-the-waist-up lady pirate porn. But that's just me.

*brandishes cutlass in a most menacing fashion, scowling, narrowing her good eye and saying...*

AHAARR!

The second best meteor shower of the year, the Leonids, peaks Monday night starting around 11:00 pm until midnight on Tuesday. There is a full moon which will make observing harder than the Pleaides were this August, but it should still be a good show at least if the clouds here break by tonight.

There are observing hints and a sky map showing you where to look at
http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2002 ... idtips.htm.

So dress warmly and go out tonight and make a wish.

Yeah, if you're in Europe, you have to stay up a bit later this year, but you will see plenty of meteors even several hours before the peak if you can find a dark enough spot.

Unfortunately, its foggy and cloudy here too so unless conditions improve, I'm going to miss them this year. Oh well, I got my best ever Perseids viewing this August, and it's been a good astronomical year for me.

They said the best times for viewing here in the Eastern Time Zone would be between 4 am and 6 am, so I could conceivably see them when I leave for work. Unfortunately, the weather forecast is predicting clouds and possible snow showers, which means Ill be out of luck. At least I was able to catch a glimpse of the August meteorites, so I was able to get some star gazing done this year.

Well my weekend was the start of my 7 week vacation. Instead of being properly lazy I have been fixing up my bathroom so it will look less like the cheap ugly 20 year old bathroom that it is, plus there are advantages to not having a huge gaping hole in the rotting wooden floor. I thank whoever lived here before me for the brilliant idea of putting a wooden floor in a bathroom when the rest of that part of my house has a concrete floor. Yes I am whining, but this is the daily thread and you started it and now I am bloody well gonna use it.

Anyway on the bright side I scored a new job today working as a doctor examining new recruits for the ministry of defense on a naval basis right smack in the middle of Amsterdam. Good pay, nice people, so now I can really enjoy having 7 weeks off (paid and all :grin ). Just think of all that extra time I have to spend here now making life miserable for you all. I can hardly wait. :party

heh. funny story regarding the new harry potter movie. so, my sometimes girlfriend comes over on sunday afternoon, not so long after seeing the new harry potter, and she bursts through the doors of my house and goes bolting down the hall shouting to me how she's in looooove with oliver wood, and how he's the most grogeous person and whatnot, ranting and raving like she hasnt since she was 13. and so the first thing that comes to mind, which i then say was "sweetie, youre a gay woman. and he isnt."
and it cracked me up.
i however still havnt seen harry potter. the original plan was to go and see it on my birthday when it opened, but that got all changed...
today i spent trying to get rid of a migraine without drugs, and buy yay! for Family in reruns, which made me not mind the blinding pain so much.
dude i love that episode......stutter. yay!
i have the feeling tuesnights are "cartoons with dawn" nights m'self. ya know? she and tara did have a fab mommy relationship going on. and willow too for a while there....i donno. not the most interesting of thought, but it's what my weird brain came up with.
peace.

I saw Harry Potter on sunday. It was good. the first 3/4 were excellent. It's fun to see all the same kids from last year's movie and how some of them have grown/hit puberty (like the actor who plays draco malfoy standing a foot above the others), and others haven't.

i'm going to go outside now and see if i can see any meteors.

A little bird told me that Tuesday night is Willow and Tara's recurring theme night on which they watch and re-watch movies in which two women make love to each and live happily ever after and nobody has ever heard of that silly old cliche. This Tuesday: BOUND!

That's not a bad idea, E. Perhaps I too shall watch Bound. Ahem. And then I'll probably uh...amuse myself. ;)

Ah yes, who can resist the allure of 60 foot basilisks, Kenneth Branagh chewing the scenery, and a showdown between Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy with wands. Kind of a pint-sized "High Noon."
It's really sad that Richard Harris is dead though as he was a towering figure in British theatrical circles.
I plan to go see it on Thursday.
