I must say that I was quite intrigued by this.

I will again state just how [i:88af3796a1] adorable[/i:88af3796a1] she was as a child/young teenager with her dark brown hair (it actually goes better with her coloring, IMHO). I wonder why she had a bandage on her lip in the "AMC" excerpts? Surely these weren't the only clips that they could find!

It's fascinating to realize how close she came to playing Cordelia!!!!! Just think how different the show would have turned out with casting like this--
Buffy played by Julie Benz (she [i:88af3796a1] did[/i:88af3796a1] try out for it!)
Willow played by Riff Regan
Cordelia played by Sarah Michelle Gellar
It would have been a whole different "vibe", and, to say the least, I doubt that it would have become a hit.

Whether she stays on BtVS or not, I think she'll have a long and prosperous career.

Two other actresses who tried out for the role of Buffy and had to settle for "lesser" roles:

Mercedes (Harmony) McNab
Elizabeth Anne (Amy) Allen

Hmmm...Mercedes does the whole "teen airhead" thing well, but she couldn't pull off the Slayer/intense vibe. EAA, kinda the opposite, IMHO.

Truly, with SMG as Buffy, they got the best of all worlds.

I, too, miss her as a brunette. I also miss when she had a few more pounds in the right places.

As for her movie career...she can do comedy well. Hey, Sandra Bullock ain't gettin' any younger...

I also recall reading somewhere that Joss originally wanted a black actress to play Cordelia, but the WB weren't keen on the idea. And allegedly Katie Holmes was originally cast to play Buffy, but pulled out of the role for some reason. Would have been interesting to have a brunette Buffy, though of course she was brunette way back in the early publicity pics .. and almost a redhead at the start of this season due to SMG's role in Scooby Doo.

Hey, I got a question. Who is Riff Reagan?? I know that she started out playing Willow in the pilot episode, but then they brought my Aly in. But, has this Riff girl been in anything else??

Sarah was definitely lookin' cute lastnight!!! Wowwza!! Freddie is one lucky guy. ;)

Sarah Michelle Gellar Strikes a Pose
Thursday, June 13, 2002

and fianc Freddie Prinze Jr. already share a home do the lovebirds really want to be together at work too? Surely no couple is that cozy. "It depends on the project," admits Gellar, who plays Daphne to his Fred in Scooby-Doo (opening tomorrow).

"There was no concern [Scooby] was ever going to cross over into our real life," she laughs. "It wasn't heavy and dramatic, like we're taking it home. Freddie and I were obviously quite familiar with each other, and I've known Matthew Lillard" who plays Shaggy "for eight years. So it was nice not having to say, 'Hi, I'm Sarah' on the first day."

That freed up Gellar to deal with Daphne's "physicality" issues. "I studied the way Daphne always posed [in the cartoon]," she says. "Her body's constantly at an angle. I'm telling you, Daphne must have some chiropractor because, seriously, it hurt!

[b:f0ff1cbc34] "I would be standing in my Buffy trailer running these Scooby lines with James Marsters, who plays Spike," Gellar recalls. "At the same time, I'd try to adjust my body and make [the posing] natural. Daphne poses and it just doesn't stop!"[/b:f0ff1cbc34]

Gracious as she is, there's one Daphne-related query you don't want to ask Gellar: "What would I do for a Scooby snack?" she sasses. "That's dog food. Let me tell you how nasty that is. I won't do anything for those! On the set, they were this nasty concoction that looked good on camera but by the third or fourth take, we're like, 'Someone get a spit bucket, please!' They're not going to be able to market those things with the nasty things I've said!" Daniel R. Coleridge

Thanks, Bookcat!!!!
Jeez, she really hasn't been in much, has she? Oh well, I'm just soooo happy Aly snagged the role as "Willow". I can't see anyone else playing her. Sooo cute and lovable. ;)

Well perhaps Riff Regan and Kristy Swanson could form a support group. :) They could also recruit James Spader and Kurt Russell( O'Neill and Jackson in the Stargate movie), and Jeffrey Hunter(Did the first pilot for Star Trek, and then dropped out of the second, leading to one William Shatner getting the job).

Well that doesn't surprise me, but the reports say that Bianca Lawson (Kendra) was cast as Cordelia but because of contractual obligations to UPN's now cancelled Goode Behavior, she had to pull out of the role.

And I could see SMG as Cordy because of Cruel Intentions. She has the inner prom queen within. And oddly enough I actually can see the Buffy in both SMG and Katie Holmes. When they go off on little tangents on tv it's very scary how similar they are.

As for Riff Reagan I saw some of the pilot and she played it exactly the way it was written, she was shy and stuttered etc., and I can see how Aly got the part because she made it more real. Riff did her job, it just came more natural to Aly.

I liked SMG calling the Aly-less pilot a debacle of epic proportions. I wish Jules had interviewed Aly tho, instead we got Seth & Shannen!

This show reminded me that SMG & Kelly Ripa were on AMC together. I saw SMG on R & K & she said she'd given Kelly's kids Scooby snacks backstage.

Yeah, it's weird to think about Buffy without Aly... she's just got so much talent that I think it wouldn't be the same without her!

I thought this was a great interview. I really hate hearing bad things said about Sarah Michelle Gellar (I have this strange desire to think the best of everyone.) so I was really pleased with the way Seth Greene put the rumours or comments about her into context. She seems like a very together and pleasant person. And, I loved seeing all of those old clips. Too funny!

The more I read/see/hear about her, the more I think Sarah's really a sweetheart in person. Things which make me smile (might be totally playing in my own mind, mind you ;) ):
- probably not signing up for an 8th season, unless she gets paid big bucks for it: either way: ME loses her or a lot of money :evil
- refusing to lend her voice to some silly cartoon-version of BtVS
- her not attending in that Emmy-thingie, due to an overload of other work or not (statement ?): ha !
- pun about "killing the show - we try", which makes me think she might get it
- doing the MTV movie awards, and ripping off the OMWF musical, sex-Spike-pun
Ok, other than anti-ME-like:
- Aly-friendly (pilot without her sucked beyond belief)
And I must say I've seen her in this show on MTV, called Fanatic, where a fan got to meet her. Girl was a nervous wreck, got all emotion, to the point Sarah herself was almost into tears. That was so incredibly cute... The fan had gone through a rough time at school (teasing...) and had found strength in the Buffy-character, the show... And Sarah was all supportive, smiling, hugging... :)

I missed this. Is it repeating any time soon or has anyone found clips of it up? I am interested in what she said about the pilot. Dear God that was a horrid horrid thing without Aly. Like night and day. I think only when you see that do you really really appreciate what Alyson brought to the table immediately.

The Aly-less pilot is sooooo bad, I can't imagine [i:df5f3841f3] BtVS[/i:df5f3841f3] would have lasted long without Aly. Riff's portrayal made Willow come across as pathetic. Aly brought a strength and charm to Willow, while maintaining her vulnerability, that Riff's portrayal lacked. IMO.

I'm gonna step away from the conventional wisdom here and say that I think Elizabeth Anne Allen would have made a freaking amazing Buffy.

I love the search feature on TVGuide.com. I keep searching Aly & only get Buffy & American Pie. But for SMG, there's heeps of stuff. Jules is no doubt the best 'cause S gets the whole 45 min. Anyhoo, more Jules & S: Fri at 1 pm EST, Sat at 12 pm EST, Sun 9 am EST & 10 pm EST, Mon at 11 am EST. Enjoy!

Hehe, the pilot, I downloaded it with Kazaa some days ago.. and the whole day I was laughing about it.. I still am, lmao.. so bad, really!

But what was good, is that Willow kills Darla, like planned. But the way she does it comes across a teeny tiny bit weird. We see Willow, stretching out her arm, but we do not see her hand or the cross, but we see smoke and Willow pulling a face; behind her is Xander, also looking weird. But we never see what happenes to Darla. But the scene indicates that Darla must have died very painfull.. very strange scene.

I especially liked how they used actual fake body ashes. Like you'd get several bad cuts that showed the boddy turning into ashes.

Oh yeah the show is way better with Aly. I'm just saying that if the script said mumble and look at your shoes someone who can't act, like me, would do exactly what Riff did. And that's why Aly is so amazing because she brought life to this character.

Didn't even see it in the paper being reviewed but here is the capsule from SF Chronicle:

------
Two schools of thought undoubtedly will emerge about the big-screen version of this TV cartoon: Those who say this live action/special-effects comedy is a logical extension of the televised version that has captivated kids since 1969; and those who say Scooby-Doo is the latest sign of Hollywoods desperation to mine popular cartoon characters for cinematic profit. The first camp will see this film as a fun, innocuous way to spend time, while the other will say its a sappy, formulaic vehicle that exists to spawn sequels and merchandise.

Or maybe both groups will agree that it's low humor, but that they'll watch it anyway. Why not, when the options on the TV are so horrid? :)
