Title: Tabula Rasa Perpetua
Author: TazRaven
Distribution: Anyone who wants to use it, just ask.
Feedback: Yes, please. I love it.
Disclaimers: Willow and Tara and the rest of the Buffy gang and Buffyverse are not mine, but I wish they were.
Summary: The Buffy gang has to live with the effects of the Tabula Rasa spell a little longer than what originally happened. This is a different idea for how Willow and Tara could have gotten through their rough patch.
Rating: Starts PG and is probably going to end up R or NC-17.
Timeline: Everything up until The Tabula Rasa spell is the same. The changes start happening a little bit into the spell.
Author's Notes: 1. Tabula Rasa means clean slate, as most of you already know. Perpetua describes a perpetual action, or an event that keeps going. Together, the title means something similar to a Perpetual Clean Slate. Just a fun bit of Latin for ya’ll.
2. Thanks to my beta Kay. You know I think you're awesome.
3. Thanks so much to Emms, who gave me a helpful bit of info that my title should be Tabula Rasa Perpetua as opposed to Tabula Rasa Perpetuus.

Tabula Rasa Perpetua

Chapter 1- A Spell Gone Horribly Wrong

“I don't think this is gonna work.” Tara looked at Willow, unshed tears filling her eyes.

“Hey. It is, i-it's working.” Tara looked down, unable to meet her lover’s gaze. “Tara, please. I need you, baby. I need you. I don't need magic, I-I don't, I ... let me prove it to you, okay? I, I will go a month without doing any magic. I won't do a single spell. I swear.”

For a moment, Willow was afraid that Tara would dismiss the idea, but after a beat, she nodded. “Go a week. One week without magic.”

Willow smiled; excited at the task Tara gave her. A week without magic was nothing. “Fine. Fine, that's easy!”

Tara looked at Willow and nodded, but her eyes betrayed her disbelief. She was totally unconvinced that Willow could do it. “Go a week, and then we'll see.”

Willow’s smile slipped off her face. She had the sudden terrifying thought that even if she did go a week without magic, she would lose Tara anyway.

Tara continued speaking, fearful that if she didn’t the words would not ever be spoken. “I don't know, I just ... think we both need some ... I don't know, space.” Willow’s face dropped even more, unable to believe what Tara was telling her. “Oh, I can't believe I'm saying this.”

For a moment, no one spoke, and then Willow asked a question that nearly broke Tara’s heart. “Are you saying you're gonna leave me?”

Tara’s throat closed slightly at the question, leaving her unable to do anything but pull her eyes away from Willow and rest them on the coffee mug she held in her hand.

------------------------

When Willow woke up that morning, she had absolutely no intention of going one week without magic. Her mind had already been made up last night, after Tara had evaded her question. She rationalized that if Tara was going to leave her whether or not she gave up magic, then she may as well continue. Besides, she continued in her mind, trying to convince herself that this was the right thing to do; this spell would make everything better. Buffy would forget she had ever been in heaven, and Tara would forget they ever had a fight. It was perfect. As Tara and Dawn left for the Magic Box, Willow disappeared upstairs for a moment clad in her bath towel with wet hair, only to return seconds later fully dressed and ready.

She walked down the stairs and went to the cabinet. Behind a set of books, hidden from view, lay a bag of ingredients needed for the spell. Willow walked over to the fireplace and took a large piece of Lethe’s Bramble from the bag, setting it in the hearth. Without giving it a second thought, Willow passed the proverbial point of no return and started speaking the spell’s words.

“For Buffy and Tara, this I char.” Willow paused for a moment, lighting a match and setting the herb on fire. “Let Lethe's Bramble do its chore. Purge their minds of memories grim, of pains from recent slights and sins.” Pausing once more, Willow took a small crystal from the pouch on her belt and held it in the flames. “When the fire goes out, when the crystal turns black, the spell will be cast.” Willow pulled the crystal out of the fire and placed it in her palm. “Tabula rasa, tabula rasa, tabula rasa.” The spell was cast.

------------------------

Buffy walked towards the door, determined to leave. She needed time to breathe, and that was impossible with the entire Scooby gang fawning over her like she was some sort of helpless child. At the sound of Willow’s voice asking her to stop, Buffy complied and turned around slowly to meet her best friend’s eyes. She wasn’t in the mood to listen to more apologies, but it wasn’t in her nature to be rude.

Willow continued, spurred on by Buffy’s compliance. “I know this must be awful for you, and I, I'm sorry, I ... I'm so sorry for...”

She was cut off as Buffy nodded impatiently. The apologies were too much, and they didn’t help the situation at all. In Buffy’s mind, what was done was done, and there was nothing anyone could do to make everything better. Being ripped out of heaven didn’t exactly bring out the optimist in her. “Sorry. Everybody's sorry. I know that you guys are just trying to help ... but it's just, it's too much. And, and I, I can't take it any more.” Buffy stopped, her eyes growing tearful at the words she was speaking. “If you guys ... if you guys understood how it felt ... how it feels. It's like I'm dying, it-“

At those words, she passed out, falling to the floor immediately. The others quickly followed. Giles and Anya fell onto each other, looking asleep to the casual observer. Willow and Xander were next, falling into a heap on the floor. Dawn collapsed to the floor as well, and Tara’s head slumped forwards onto the table. As Spike passed out on the counter, the Magic Box was enveloped in an uncharacteristic silence.

------------------------

In a darkened room, a petite blonde woke up on the floor. She groaned and stood up, walking over to a wall and flipping on a light. Seconds later several other people in the room were awake. A man with bleached hair started to roll off the counter; he shrieked in a high pitched voice and tumbled onto the floor. The scream woke up the youngest looking person in the room, causing her to cry out as well. After everyone had roused themselves from slumber, the group was considerably confused. Waking up without any memories of each other, let alone any memories of themselves, the assemblage tried to make sense of the situation. They decided that their current condition was not caused by alcohol, and instead went about trying to find another explanation. The red-head started walking about the room, examining the items on the shelves and counters. She excitedly determined what kind of shop they were in and was about to announce her discovery before being interrupted by someone else. She turned towards the voice and found herself looking at a woman who had up until then been silently sitting in a chair. The idea was dismissed just as quickly, as the older man in the room labeled the notion of magic as preposterous.

The red-head watched the progressing scene with slight amusement, as the man with bleached blonde hair determined that the older British gentleman was his father. “Oh, god, how I must hate you,” the younger man said.

“What did I do?” the older man asked, confused as to how he could be hated without knowing his own name.

“There’s always something, and what’s with the trollop?”

“Hey!” the blonde woman exclaimed, obviously irate at the insult.

“Her?” the older man asked.

“I saw you! Sleeping together.”

“Resting together.” The older gentleman held up his hand in an effort to halt the direction the conversation was headed in.

“Look! It’s ok. We’re engaged.” The woman held out her hand, pleased with her deduction. “It’s a lovely ring,” she continued.

The older man’s son had something more to contribute. “Oh, great. A tarty step mom who’s half old Daddy’s age.”

“Tarty?” the blonde asked, once again insulted by her soon-to-be step son.

“Old? You little twerp, I’m young enough to still get carded!” the older man protested.

“Carded! Driver’s licenses!” the red-head exclaimed, struck with the sudden idea to find out their names from their IDs.

The man to her left was the first to discover his name. “It’s me! Alexander Harris. Cute picture.” He smiled, very pleased with himself, and held up the picture for everyone to see. “Hey, I exist.”

The red-head was next as she announced her name to the group. “Willow Rosenberg.” She looked at Alex and giggled. “Heh, Willow. Funny name.”

She was pulled from her amusement by the sweet voice of the blonde woman. She gave Willow a smile and spoke softly. “I think it’s pretty.” Willow returned the smile and asked the blonde what her name was, genuinely eager to know the answer.

She held up her ID. “Tara, and look, I’m a student at U. C. Sunnydale.”

“Me too!” Willow exclaimed, happy that perhaps she and Tara were friends. “Hey, maybe we’re study buddies.” Tara smiled, excitement filling her for some unknown reason at the thought of being Willow’s study buddy.

The excitement fled her body just as quickly, and was replaced by an immense feeling of jealousy, as Willow and Alex decided that they were a couple. Tara didn’t know why it affected her so much, but the thought of Willow and Alex together seemed wrong. It was as if she and Willow belonged together, but she pushed that thought out. Oddly enough, it did not concern Tara that she was attracted to Willow. No, the reason for her disbelief was that the gorgeous red-head standing near her would probably never look in Tara’s direction twice. Although Tara had not yet looked into a mirror, she was certain that her looks paled in comparison to Willow’s.

Minutes later, everyone had a name, even if it was Joan. They all decided to find a hospital, and turned in the direction of the exit. Joan walked to the door and pulled it open. For the smallest of moments, everyone stood still as they saw what was waiting for them outside of the shop. Two vampires stood, poised and ready to strike. Their faces were disfigured and sharp fangs jutted out from their mouths. As soon as the moment began, it ended, and everyone screamed. Joan slammed the door shut and the group ran behind a counter, huddling in a mass on the floor.

Panic ensued for the next couple of minutes as the group tried to figure out a solution, but once the vampires had broken into the store and Joan killed one, some details seemed to fall into place. It seemed that Joan was some sort of superhero, and that she definitely knew how to use a spike. Joan, having discovered her talents, took charge of the group, handing out assignments. Alex, Willow, Dawn, and Tara would go down into the sewers and try and reach the hospital that way. Rupert and Anya would stay in the shop to try and work a spell, Anya having decided that she couldn’t leave the cash register. Joan and Randy would pull the vampires off the rest of the group, as Randy was the one the vampires wanted.

They all silently agreed as the group of four headed off into the back of the shop, and Randy and Joan threw open the door and ran out, leaving Rupert and Anya alone to protect the money.

------------------------

Joan and Randy sprinted out the door, Joan pushing three vampires out of the way and creating a path. They ran down the street, until one of the vampires caught Randy by the shoulder, pulling him backwards. In less than a second, Randy’s face changed into a vampiric visage. He pulled back his fist and threw it forwards, lifting the other vampire into the air and depositing him twenty feet away.

Joan turned around when she realized that Randy was not by her side anymore. “Randy!” She called out, afraid that he had gotten captured. But as she turned to look, she saw something terrible. Randy’s face had morphed; his forehead full of lumps, and his sharp teeth showing in a gruesome smile.

“Hey, I’m a superhero too!” he exclaimed, happy to contribute. Unfortunately, Joan’s face displayed anything but happiness. She looked terrified of him, and that emotion was cemented as she turned and ran screaming away from the shop. “Joan, where are you going?” Randy asked, confused at her horror. The vampires charged him again, and he quickly dispatched them. Calling after Joan, he sprinted after her.

------------------------

In the back of the shop, the foursome was climbing down a ladder that led to the sewers. Tara and Alex went first, helping Dawn down after them. As they helped Willow down from the ladder, Tara grabbed onto one of Willow’s legs, trying to support the weight. When one of her feet had touched the ground, Willow put her hands onto Tara’s shoulders to steady herself, and was suddenly aware of how close they were. Tara brought her own hands up to Willow’s arms, intent on steadying the red-head, and found herself gazing into the most beautiful green eyes. Willow found herself in a similar position, looking into the beautiful blue of Tara’s gaze. In that moment, it seemed that both Willow and Tara remembered something important; something life changing. But in the next second it was gone as Willow turned away, confused by how intense the moment was.

They all began to walk down the tunnel with Willow leading the way, followed by Alex, Dawn, and finally Tara. As they walked a few feet further, a shadow appeared, blocking the path. The form stepped into the light and Dawn screamed, triggering the others to run the opposite direction. They sprinted back the way they came, afraid to look behind them for fear they would see the vampire draw near.

The group sprinted down the sewer, the vampire hot on their heels. Tara rounded a corner and ducked behind some pillars, motioning for the others to follow her. Seconds later the vampire passed, still pursuing the group that was now behind him. Tara peeked out from behind the columns once she was sure the monster had bypassed them. She told the others to climb up the ladder on the other side of the sewer, and they quickly followed her instruction. In moments they were huddled in the pipe. Alex pulled the heavy metal grate shut behind them.

Willow and Tara crouched against the wall, trying not to breathe heavily. Their faces were so close, that if one were to move forward, their lips would brush. Willow tried not to look; for fear that she would push herself forward, creating a kiss in the enclosed space. They locked eyes for a moment, and in that moment once again, all the questions seemed to be answered. But Tara broke the gaze, looking down, ending the intensity. Now was not the time to be indulging in passionate fantasies, squeezed into a small pipe with a vampire following their scent. Tara looked back up, unable to keep her eyes off of the woman so near to her, but this time it was Willow who ended the stare, choosing to look away. They stopped then, coming to a silent mutual agreement to instead focus on the problem at hand, instead of creating new ones.

------------------------

Unfortunately, Rupert and Anya were not faring any better. Rupert had found a one-way plane ticket to England in his jacket pocket, but as Anya praised how nice it must be for them to own a shop together, he chose to keep the information to himself.

“This is the book for us,” Anya insisted, pulling it off the shelf and skipping over to her fiancé. Although the book had nothing to do with mind control or memory loss, Rupert could see that nothing would dissuade Anya.

“Ok, here we go.” She plopped the book down on the table and opened it to a randomly chosen page. Rupert began to protest mildly, but before he could begin a convincing argument, Anya started reading the spell. “Pacis exsisto mei Huic quietus vicis Somnium exsisto dulcis Sino mihi dormio.” No sooner had she finished the incantation than a bright blue bolt of energy shot out from the book and hit Rupert squarely in the chest. He lost consciousness immediately, falling to the floor and hitting his head on the hard surface for good measure. Anya picked her eyes up from the book and looked to her right. Not seeing Rupert, she glanced downwards and sighed. Her fiancé was sprawled out on the floor in an obviously unconscious state. She shook her head and muttered under her breath, “Oh, crap!”

Pretty good! Okay, so the first chapter was pretty much Tabula Rasa play for play, with a few extra bits thrown in between; Willow/Tara's POV, for example, but I liked it. Well done. Now I wonder if you're going to continue on in that same vein or if you're going to throw your own spin on it. :hmm

Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Well, I'm pretty much in agreement with everyone else. This is a good transcript with embellishment. I'd love to see you expand on that a little bit. It's a great story to begin with, and has great potential to be stretched and played with.

Keep going... it's a good start.

Just a small note. I have already written 5 chapters of this story, and I promise that it will have more twists as we go along. The next chapter will definitely have more of my own stuff. I promise, much with the spins ;-)

Tabula Rasa Perpetua

Chapter 2- Discoveries

“Alright Miss…”

“Um, I think it’s Jenkins.” At the confused look the doctor gave her, she revised her answer. “I mean, Jenkins.”

“Right. Well, Miss Jenkins,” he paused a moment at her name and then continued, “Mr. Rupert Giles should be fine. He’s still unconscious, but there doesn’t seem to be any brain damage.” Giving the woman a once over, the doctor asked his next question. “Are you family?”

“Oh! Yes, I’m his fiancé.” She smiled at the thought of her ring and the doctor gave a slight smile in return.

“Well then, even though there doesn’t seem to be any lasting damage, we’d still like to keep him for at least twenty-four hours, just to make sure. Visiting hours are done for the night, but if you’d like I could possibly arrange for you to sleep in his room.”

“Yes, that would be fine. Thank you.” She gave him another sweet smile and walked in the direction of Rupert’s room. Anya had been unsure what to do after seeing his limp form collapsed on the floor, but it seemed instinct kicked in quickly and within seconds she had run to the phone and dialed for an ambulance. She wasn’t sure what a hospital could do for him considering the circumstances, but it was her best bet. She reasoned that the others would be at the hospital and that they could meet her there. At least, that was the plan when she had last seen the group, but it had been an hour at least. Shaking her head to try and push out the unpleasant thoughts that they were hurt or in danger, Anya pushed open the door to Rupert’s room and crossed to the chair placed by his bedside. She sat down heavily into the cushion and watched the man for any sign of movement.

For some unexplainable reason, Anya felt that Rupert getting knocked unconscious was not an unnatural occurrence. She once again gazed at the ring on her hand for perhaps the tenth time that night. She wasn’t sure why, but there was a feeling pushing on the back of her mind that perhaps Rupert wasn’t the one who had given her the piece of jewelry. A sudden image of Alex appeared in her head, but it was dismissed just as quickly. Alex was with that red-haired woman. Willow, was it?

She leaned back into the chair and thought about the night she had experienced. Waking up with no memories had been unsettling, but the group had seemed familiar, even if it was only the slightest feelings of déjà vu. There was one thing she did remember though, and that was her overwhelming need to protect her shop. Even now she felt nervous, knowing that her store was basically unprotected. “This is just perfect. The money’s all alone and I’m here babysitting my fiancé.” She paused a moment, considering her own words. “Of course, I was the one to knock him out, so I guess it makes sense.”

Anya leaned forward and took Rupert’s hand. She may not be sure of their relationship, but she was sure that they were at least friends. Pulling the chair closer, she moved her body into a comfortable position and settled herself for a long night.

-----------------

Far from the hospital, Joan was trying to convince Randy that he was indeed a vampire. She cited the obvious characteristics, and then let him come to the same conclusion. Oddly enough, she really didn’t feel the need to stake him as she had with the other vampires. Then, the situation had felt very straight forwards. Vampires are bad, stake the bad vampires. But Randy felt different, like she shouldn’t be staking him. And he obviously felt the same way, as he hadn’t tried to bite her. Joan was slightly confused about the situation, but her confusion turned to uncertainty when she heard Randy’s reason. “A vampire with a soul?” She paused a moment, as if considering whether or not that was a good reason. She decided it really wasn’t. “Oh my god, how lame is that?”

-----------------

Dawn had been more than a little surprised at the candid nature of Willow’s response. Who knew such a simple question like ‘how are you’ could have such a complex answer. Confused, sweaty, trapped, no memory, hiding from a vampire. Kinda gay. That’s what she had said. Dawn would have laughed had her situation allowed it, but the vampire chasing them would have pinpointed the group in a second without the continued silence.

Alex peeked out from the grate, only to see the vampire start to climb up the ladder and towards their hiding spot. A chilling statement alerted the rest of the group to the vampire’s imminent arrival. “I smell fear… and it smells good.” They quickly fled the pipe, unaware that the vampire had seen them leave. Tara, Willow, and Dawn ran, hoping to find an exit. Alex made to follow them, only to be stopped by the vampire’s fist connecting solidly with his face. They exchanged a few punches, until Alex was able to break away at a sprint, trying to reach the rest of his group.

Ahead of him, the women had reached the end of the pipe. Willow and Tara entered first, looking around for any sign of the monster. From the side, the vampire seemed to appear from nowhere and growled menacingly. Willow grabbed Tara, her only thought to protect the blonde. They fell to the ground in a heap, with Willow falling on top of Tara, their legs intertwined. A crystal fell out of Willow’s pocket, though no one seemed to notice. From somewhere else it seemed, they faintly heard the sounds of a fight. Everything else seemed to fall away as cerulean gazed into emerald, their eyes darkening with their close proximity.

For moments it seemed that neither woman moved, but somehow their faces had slowly moved closer together. Now only inches of air separated their lips, both silently begging the other for a kiss. Tara reached up her hand, brushing away a small lock of crimson hair that had fallen in front of Willow’s face. Her fingertips lightly brushed Willow’s cheek, sending what felt like electrical sparks traveling up her arm. She lowered her hand, smiling slightly at the woman above her. Their lips grew closer, now only centimeters apart where there had been inches before. And then suddenly, she felt a heavy weight trip over their combined bodies. Willow was knocked out of Tara’s arms and onto the floor beside her.

Tara shook her head, trying to sort through what had just happened. She had been lying underneath Willow, about to kiss her. From where Tara had been, it looked like Willow had wanted to kiss her too, but Tara knew she would never find the nerve to ask her. Tara’s arms felt empty now, as though she should always be holding Willow. Turning her head to the side slightly, she was relieved to see the other woman unhurt. She stood up and then turned around immediately, offering a supportive hand, unfortunately attached to a body with weak knees, to the fallen red-head.

Finally, Tara looked to see what had caused the unwelcome disturbance, and found Alex in a similar position to Willow. She helped the woman up, trying not to gasp at the contact, and then let go to help Alex.

Inside of Willow’s mind, she was trying to sort through the same thing Tara was. The main question being what had just happened. You just tried to kiss her. You’ve known this girl for like, what, a half hour? Ok, probably longer than that cause with the whole memory thing and you both go to the same college. So you’ve probably known her for longer. But still, with the kissing and for all you know you may have just met her! And what the hell am I doing in my head? I’m babbling. I’m having a conversation with myself. Did I always do this? Jeez, how did I ever get anything done? She was jogged from her internal monologue by the sound of Alex’s voice.

“Well, that was fun. It’s not everyday you get attacked by a vampire and then turn it to dust with a really big splinter. Though I’m getting the feeling that maybe it happens to us pretty often.” Alex shook his head, letting a layer of dust fall from his hair to settle on the floor. “Is everyone okay?”

Willow and Tara nodded, neither woman making eye contact with the other. Alex internally scratched his head, confused by their reactions. “Dawn, you doing alright?”

“Um, I think so? Hehe, a shower would be good,” she responded. Inside Dawn was unsettled by how familiar this all felt. Killing vampires should never be something to get used to.

“Alright then, we should probably try and see if we can find another exit.” The rest of the group nodded, either too distressed or too, he looked at Willow and Tara once more, something to respond verbally. With the plan decided, they began to travel in an unknown direction through the pipe, hoping that it would lead them to safety. Unfortunately, no one noticed the small black crystal that remained on the ground.

-----------------

“Nobody messes with Joan the Vampire Slayer!” Joan yelled, a triumphant grin covering her face. When the other vampires had shown up, a momentary panic had settled over her. But then a burst of adrenaline had replaced the panic, and it seemed instinct took over. She kicked and punched her way through the vampires, at one point using a broken mailbox post to dust them. Minutes later, piles of dust layered the grass, and Randy seemed to be threatening a half-shark half-man monster. Joan shuddered at the image, and then walked over to Randy. As she came closer, she was able to hear the conversation.

“You’re an odd duck Mister Spike. Fighting your own kind… palling around with a slayer.” Before he could utter another word, Randy’s fist connected with the shark-man’s jaw.

“Bloody hell! My name is Randy, you wanker.” Not wanting to waste anymore time with the creature that was now passed out on the ground, Randy and Joan began to walk back towards the magic shop.

Joan looked to the side at Randy and smiled. A vampire with a soul may be an odd situation, but at least he was on her side. “I’m thinking we need to get everyone together and do some research on what’s going on with us. Maybe look in some of those books back at the shop?”

He nodded, and they continued to walk in silence. Half a mile later they arrived back at the shop. Joan opened the door, the little bell accompanying the entrance making her twitch slightly for some unknown reason. “Where the heck are they?” Joan wondered out loud. Almost as if the universe had heard her, the phone came to life. Joan walked over to it, picking it up on the third ring. She was greeted by Anya’s voice.

-----------------

Back at the hospital, Anya sat waiting for Rupert to awake for his magic induced slumber. In the past hour he had woken only once, and then only for a few minutes. During the small time Rupert had been awake, only nonsensical words were spoken. Something about vampires, or demons, and magic. The doctor had ignored them; instead choosing to believe that it was just the man’s previous black out talking. There were only so many neck wound victims that one could treat before you either accepted what was happening or ignored it completely. The doctor chose the blissful ignorance.

Anya still sat beside Rupert’s bed, holding his hand lightly. He was asleep again, and probably would be until morning, so she had settled in for the night as well. Half an hour earlier, Anya had decided to call her shop and leave a message the rest of the group, unsure whether or not they would be able to make it to the hospital. She found the number on a card that was in her wallet. Instead, the phone was picked up by Joan. She quickly relayed the information and agreed with her idea to research. They arranged for Anya to meet them tomorrow at the shop. Now she was sitting in the chair again, dozing off ever so slightly. A few minutes later she was finally asleep, her slumber shutting off the constant worries that had plagued her mind all night.

-----------------

Forty-five minutes. That’s how long the group had been searching the tunnels, trying to find a way back to the relative safety of the magic shop. They had given up on finding another exit after not finding one for the first twenty minutes of walking. Now, they were trying to find a way back, and failing miserably. To make matters worse, as if they needed to be in a poorer position, the tunnels they were traveling along had been getting darker. The smells seemed to intensify with the dimming of the lights and too many turns had completely eradicated any chance of correctly backtracking their steps.

Alex and Dawn led the way, with Willow and Tara close behind them, no one willing to stray too far from the group. Every so often Tara would chance a look at Willow, only to force her eyes back down again if she suspected she would be caught. If only she had kept her eyes on Willow longer, then she would have noticed the red-head doing the exact same thing.

They walked in silence, occasionally forced closer together when the pipe narrowed. Their shoulders, the sides of their hands, any contact felt like a current of electricity coursing through their veins. Whenever they touched, their eyes would meet, if only for a split second. It was like an acknowledgement. As if each was silently saying, ‘Yes, I did feel that, I don’t know what it is.’ But neither woman said a word, leaving both more than a little confused and curious as to what the other was thinking.

Tara watched the ground intently, focused on not looking at Willow. In fact, she was so focused that she didn’t notice that Alex and Dawn had stopped walking, forcing her to run into Dawn’s back. She bounced back and apologized softly. Dawn waved off the apology and Tara turned to Alex for an explanation with a questioning look on her face.

“Um, I have no idea where we are. And seeing as there’s not anyone around to ask directions from, I’m open to any suggestion.” He looked down at his shoes, ashamed slightly for having gotten everyone so lost.

For a moment Tara tried to think of something, anything that could help the situation they were all in. And then she felt it. Something in the back of her mind. It started out as a small nudge, like an itch she couldn’t reach. After a moment the nudge became a push. There was something in her memories, trying to force its way out of the blackness and into the forefront of her consciousness. Suddenly, she knew. Her eyes closed and her breathing grew deep. She felt a sense of calm, the pull of energy somewhere deep within herself. It was there, on the tip of her tongue, the words flowing out before she could even think about it.

“Aradia, Goddess of the lost. The path is murky. The woods are dense. Darkness pervades. I beseech thee, bring the light.”

The spell’s words flowed from Tara’s lips, her voice soft and lyrical. In front of her nose, a small bouncing light had appeared. It was bright green, and looked almost eager to move. But it didn’t. It just stayed there, jumping in front of her face. Almost as if it was waiting for something. It hit her again, the knowledge that she couldn’t bring up by choice but just seemed to know when she needed it. It was waiting for instructions. The little ball of light jumped again, looking almost like a hyper-active firefly. Very softly, almost as if she was afraid her voice would scare off the glow in front of her, she gave her instructions.

“Lead us to the magic shop.” That was all it took, and the light was off. Before running off after it, she chanced a look at the rest of the group. Alex and Dawn were staring at the spot where the light had been, their jaws open in slight shock. Vampires were one thing, but a witch that could conjure up magical energy for directions was entirely something else. They blinked and then snapped their jaws shut, running after the light for fear their only way to safety would disappear.

Tara tried to hold back a laugh, but eventually succumbed as a light giggle escaped her lips, and she turned her eyes to Willow. She was sporting an entirely different expression, and was not looking at where the light had been but was instead focused on Tara. There was a smile on her face, a look of awe and happiness, and something that Tara couldn’t quite place. They gazed into each other’s eyes for a moment as Tara returned the smile. Her lips lifted into a half-grin, making Willow’s own smile widen. After another moment they simultaneously broke the gaze, deciding to follow Alex and Dawn. No words were spoken, but Tara couldn’t help but feel as though something magical had happened; something besides her spell.

Dibs!

Oh! GOOD update!! Your spin was great--is great. I like the way you're writing the connection between Willow and Tara, and I'm kinda glad that they didn't kiss yet. But they wanted to...heehee... I wonder if you're going to keep us waiting on that :confused :lol

I enjoyed the bits with Anya and Giles and also the bits with Randy ( :p )and Joan ( :lol )

Can't wait for the next chapter! I think you've got me hooked. :smash

ETA: I kinda wonder though, how you're going to give us a happy ending out of this... 'cos once the spell is over and they get their memories back, won't Tara be angry? :paranoid I really can't see there being any other outcome... So I guess I'll just have to trust you, and keep reading. :-D

I haven't watched Tabula Rasa yet even though I have it, but I think my house isn't really ready for major flood, so it's still waiting. I don't know all stuff what's in episode, actually nothing beside most important W/T things. But that doesn't matter.
I like the connection between Tara and Willow very very much. I don't know why, but it somehow reminds me about "Hush", except now they have history together but can't, obviously, remember it. Or maybe that's because I'm way too tired and can't find proper things to write.

But anyway, I like your story very much and can't wait to see what happens next :party

Tabula Rasa Perpetua

Chapter 3- Going Home

Fifteen minutes after Tara conjured up a mystical ball of energy to ask for the quickest way back to the magic shop, they had arrived. Alex wearily pulled himself up the ladder, pausing at the top to lend a hand to Dawn, Willow, and Tara. Alex entered the main area of the shop, the rest of the group hanging behind him, only to pull to a screeching halt. Not even six inches in front of him, the business end of a long broad sword was pointed straight at his chest.

"Oh, sorry about that." Joan lowered the sword she had been holding and rested the tip against the ground. "Where were you all? We were just about to go look for you guys." Alex took a breath, still wide-eyed from his near stabbing. In front of him stood Joan and Randy. Joan was holding the sword she had threatened Alex with, along with what looked like some sort of gun. Randy stood beside her, holding a stake and a dagger at the ready. "Hence the weapons. We found them in the back room. Didn't know if there'd be baddies to fight." She smiled almost predatorily, a glint in her eye. Alex smiled slightly, happy to not be at the pointy end of the sword anymore. Obviously, Joan was enjoying her newfound super powers.

Alex opened his mouth to answer, only to be interrupted by Dawn. "Well, there was a bad guy. A vampire. But then there was a fight and Alex totally kicked it's a-"

"Language," she heard Tara say quietly. Willow gave her a small smile.

"Butt," Dawn finished. Alex puffed out his chest, clearly proud of his accomplishment. Joan snickered and then coughed, words that suspiciously sounded like "dusted four" coming out as well. He visibly deflated, casting a glare at Joan.

"Oh, and then we couldn't find our way back, and Alex was all "we're lost, we're lost" but Tara did the coolest thing! She was all calm and then she said these words, and right in front of her was a bright green ball and it lead us back here. It was a spell, wasn't it?" Dawn looked at Tara as if wanting an answer but continued speaking without waiting for one. "I bet it was a spell."

Tara smiled and ducked her head, allowing the blonde hair to fall in front of her rapidly blushing face. She may not have her memories, but she was sure that praise wasn't part of her old daily life. In front of her, she heard Alex make a huffing noise, obviously annoyed at being cast as the loser of the story.

"Um, not to be all worry girl, but where are the other two?" Willow asked. She had her hand half-raised, as if she was asking the teacher a question, and Tara couldn't help but smile at the display. Willow was too cute for words.

“About them. Anya called from the hospital.” Upon seeing everyone about to burst out with questions, she raised her voice. “Don’t worry, he’s fine. She just knocked him out a little with some spell she read from a book.” The faces in front of her took on a shocked appearance at those words. Buffy tried again. “What I mean to say is, there was a spell, but it was a harmless sleeping one. Anya’s gonna meet us here tomorrow afternoon and she said Rupert should be fine once he wakes up.”

A collective sigh of relief filtered through the group as Joan placed her weapons on the table and dropped into a seat. Randy did the same and the group followed, taking their places around the table. “I think we should talk about what we’re going to do,” Willow said. “I mean, we’ve obviously lost our memories, and I’m willing to bet it’s from something supernatural, given what we’ve seen tonight.” She paused for a moment as her eyes grew wide and her mouth fell open. “We could do research! With, you know, the books and everything.” She trailed off, slightly embarrassed at how excited she had become. Looking to her left, she saw Tara give her an adorable looking half-smile. Willow couldn’t help but return it, giving Tara a toothy grin.

The moment was broken by Joan’s voice. “I think that sounds like a good plan. What do you say we find our homes and get some sleep, then meet back here tomorrow morning for research?” A chorus of agreements sounded from the rest of the group and they stood up from their chairs. Willow, Alex and Tara pulled out their wallets again, while Joan, Dawn, and Randy stood there without any identification to help them.

Willow spoke up first. “It says I live at 1630 Revello Drive, in Sunnydale. What about you guys?”

Tara had a confused look on her face while she read her ID. Her address was the same as Willow’s. For a brief second, Tara allowed herself to entertain the idea that they lived together in that house, and that they were a family. She quickly pushed those thoughts from her mind, instead focusing on why they lived together, since Willow was too amazing to ever be with her like that. “I-it says I live there t-too, at the same address.” Tara blushed even as she said it, afraid what Willow’s reaction might be. Instead, the red-head looked at her with an unexpected expression on her face. Willow smiled brilliantly, excited to the core that Tara lived with her. Tara’s blush deepened, as everyone in the room turned to look at her. Luckily, Alex took the spotlight off of her as he read off his address.

“Alright, I think a cab would be our best bet. I’ll call the company and then we can get out of here. Willow? Tara? Would it be alright if Dawn and I stayed with you?” The two women nodded their heads slowly, both a little disappointed that they would not be alone tonight. “Ok, great. Um, Randy, I think you should stay with us too, just in case, you know?” She made a gesture, putting two fingers in front of her mouth to signify fangs and bit into the air. The rest of the group looked on at Joan’s gesture, thoroughly confused, while Randy just sputtered out an answer.

“Oh, right, um, yah. Sounds good mate.”

“Alex, will you be alright at your place?”

“Oh, ya. I took down a vampire tonight. No undead creatures of the night will be snacking on my blood.” When the entire group cast him an odd glance, Alex stopped talking.

----------------------

“Hey Alex, can I talk to you for a second?” Willow asked softly. Tara looked up from the book she was thumbing through while they waited for the taxi. Alex nodded and they went in to the back room. Tara sighed quietly. She’s probably going to kiss him goodnight.

In the training room, Willow walked to the bench and sat down. “So, what did you want to talk to me about?” Alex asked, sitting down on the bench beside her.

“Well, it’s just. Alright, I don’t really know how to say this, but it’s just that we were down in the sewers and then there were eyes, and they weren’t your eyes, but her eyes. And she just looked so beautiful, even when we were being chased by vampires and I think I’m kind of gay. What I mean to say is, I don’t think we’re an item.” She took a deep breath and ventured a look at Alex. She was surprised to see that he didn’t look surprised but was instead smiling.

“You know, I’m not that oblivious. I saw how you were looking at her, and I have to say, I don’t think we’re together either.” His smile grew and he pulled Willow into an unexpected hug. She straightened for a moment before returning the embrace.

“I bet we are really good friends,” Willow said.

Alex released Willow and smiled again. “I think you’re right Will. I think you’re right.”

----------------------

Alex walked up to the apartment door that was apparently his. He took out a key from his pocket and gently slid it into the lock. With a small click, the door opened and he found himself inside a very well decorated living space. He walked around the room, hoping that the familiar space would jog some memory, any memory. The kitchen was next as he examined the fridge, noting that it contained a good amount of food, and for some reason a block of extremely smelly cheese. He tasted a bit of it, only to spit it out into the garbage. “Why the heck did I keep that stuff?” Alex wondered aloud.

Leaving the kitchen, he walked into the first bedroom. Realizing it was a guest room, he went into the other bedroom. Inside he found several pictures. One was of him, Joan, and Willow at what he guessed was high school graduation, looking elated in their shiny red robes. Another showed the entire group excluding himself, all seated around the magic shop’s table, knee deep in a plethora of books. He smiled and turned away from the photos, walking over to the dresser.

Alex opened the top drawer and took in a breath. There, littered among his boxers and night shirts, there were pieces of women’s pajamas. For a moment his mind brought up a picture of himself wearing the clothes. He laughed out loud at the image and pushed it from his mind. It was replaced by Willow. She was the one wearing his coat. But she had also said they weren’t together earlier, and he tended to agree. From the way Willow was looking at Tara, he wouldn’t be surprised if they were a couple. Willow’s image disappeared as Anya’s took its place. He smiled. Anya was interesting, to say the least. He had only spent a little while with her, but she had a way of speaking that made him feel something. The image vanished as he remembered that she was engaged to Rupert. But that could be wrong. Maybe she’s actually engaged to me? Rather than spend any more time on the thoughts, he changed into his pajamas and moved onto the bed. In the morning, he hoped things would be clearer.

----------------------

Willow, Tara, Dawn, Joan, and Randy piled out of the cab. Tara walked up to the front door and, after rummaging around for a few seconds, pulled a key from her bag. The door opened with a click and they all stepped inside. The first thing that Joan noticed was the photos on the walls. They showed her, Dawn, and an older woman that, given the resemblance, she assumed was their mother. She walked around the living room, the others following closely behind her. After a few moments of examining the room, Willow cleared her throat. “I think that this is your house Joan.” Joan nodded her head as she sat down on the couch.

“Do you think that our mom is…?” Dawn cut off, unable to voice what was going through her mind. She sat down next to Joan and laid her head on her shoulder. Joan lifted her arm around the teenager and pulled her close.

Willow and Tara left the room silently, wanting to give the siblings some time. Randy left with them and walked into the kitchen. “I’m sleeping in the basement.” Without another word, he opened the door to the basement and walked down the stairs, closing the door behind him. Willow and Tara looked at each other for a moment before moving as one to the stairs. They stopped at the first door and peeked in. Stuffed animals lined the bed and a desk sat in the corner with high school textbooks sitting on it. “This must be Dawn’s room,” Tara whispered, not wanting to break the silence that had settled over the house.

They walked a little farther down the hallway, passing a bathroom on the right. Instead of opening the door directly across from the bathroom, they walked the length of the hallway, stopping in front of the last door. Tara extended her hand and turned the knob. She pushed open the door and stepped inside. Willow followed, walking into the room and shutting the door softly behind her. Tara walked over to the closet and pulled the doors open. She fingered some of the clothes inside, noting how there seemed to be two sizes of clothing within the closet. “Oh,” Tara said.

----------------------

“Let’s go to sleep,” Joan whispered. She felt Dawn nod against her shoulder as she lifted her arm from around the girl. The rose from the couch together and Joan locked the door before they climbed the stairs. At the end of the hallway, she saw the closed door and smiled slightly. While it may not have been obvious to the two women involved, to Joan it seemed that Tara and Willow were on the fast track to figuring out their relationship. She opened the first door and ushered Dawn inside. The teenager, too exhausted to even change into her pajamas, collapsed on the bed. Joan sat there until she heard the deep breathing that only comes with slumber and then left the room, quietly closing the door.

Joan entered the only other bedroom on the hall and changed into her sleep wear. She paused for a moment to look through the bookcase. She was fairly sure that her name wasn’t Joan, and it was only a matter of flipping through a few yearbooks before she found out her actual name. She snorted with laughter. “Buffy?” she said out loud. “What the heck kind of name is that?” Realizing that she liked the name she had picked out for herself much better, Joan climbed into bed and curled herself into the covers. There was too much to think about this day that she didn’t even have the strength to. In minutes she was peacefully asleep.

----------------------

Randy slipped into the cot in the basement. He was confused to say the least. Having most likely started off the day with memories, only to lose them all and find out he was a vampire again was very troubling. His nature was also a source of confusion for him. Vampires were supposed to be evil, soulless things. But instead, here he was, unwilling to bite people and attacking his own kind. He supposed that tomorrow he would have to find some blood. The butcher would probably work. He closed his eyes, and to the entire world it would look as if he was dead. Vampires did not breath, their hearts did not beat, but he knew he was different. It was Joan. She seemed to bring out something in him, a warmth in his chest. Even though vampires were supposed to be creatures of the night, Randy slipped off into a deep sleep. His last thought before drifting off into slumber was of Joan, and how he thought that name didn’t seem to fit.

----------------------

From behind her, Tara heard Willow clear her throat. “I think that, well, I mean…” She stopped for a moment and started again. “I’m just trying to say that I don’t know what we are, were, are.” Tara turned around, her eyes slowly meeting Willow’s. Willow sighed heavily. “I’m just going to grab some pajamas and sleep downstairs.” She walked over to where Tara stood and opened a drawer. She searched the clothes for a moment before pulling out a pair of pajamas and then closed the drawer.

Before she could reach the door, she felt a hand on her shoulder. Willow turned to find Tara right behind her. Their eyes met and the sense of completeness once again flooded their bodies. Tara took a shaky breath and began to speak in a soft, slightly trembling voice. “Willow, you don’t have to, s-sleep down there I mean. You c-could stay, here.” Willow smiled softly and nodded. She entered the bathroom to change into her pajamas and shut the door. Back in the bedroom, Tara took another deep breath. She couldn’t believe it, but all the evidence seemed to be pointing to one specific thing. She and Willow were together. It would be pretty unbelievable that they were merely friends who slept in the same bed and had a combined closet full of clothes. Lovers. Lesbian, gay type lovers. Her breathing became shallow as an image suddenly entered her mind. Their bodies mingled on a bed, skin touching skin, lips and tongues caressing each other. She jumped slightly as Willow re-entered the room.

Willow crossed the room quickly upon seeing Tara. Her face was red and her breathing was shallow, her body trembling slightly. She laid a gentle hand upon her shoulder. “Tara, are you alright?”

“Oh! Y-yes. Just fine. I’m going to g-get changed. Now.” She grabbed her own pajamas from the dresser and entered the bathroom, hoping that she hadn’t been too obvious. Willow pulled back the comforter and crawled into bed, taking the spot that was closest to the door. It had been a very long day. Entirely too long. Except for Tara. Willow was nervous, but also excited beyond belief, hopeful that she and Tara were something more than friends. Given the state of the room, she couldn’t help but think they were. She smiled at the thought and then held her breath as she heard Tara re-enter the room.

Tara crossed the room and turned out the light, being careful not to bump into anything on the way back to bed. Very slowly, she settled onto the mattress, making sure to stay on her side of the frame. Their bodies tense, Willow turned on her side, her eyes finding Tara’s even in the dark. They gazed at each other and as one moved closer together, only stopping when their lips were centimeters apart. “Tara, I-” She stopped, unable to say anything that could explain her feelings. Tara moved her hand from her side to Willow’s cheek and rubbed her thumb gently across the soft skin. “What are you doing?” she asked softly.

Tara stopped moving and removed her hand, afraid that she had crossed an invisible boundary. “Is it Alex?” she asked in a trembling voice. “Is that w-why you d-don’t-”

“No! No, Tara, I meant it in a good way. As in a, what are you doing, touching my face and making me feel warm all over and doing the thing I’ve wanted you to do all night sort of way. And Alex is so not an issue. In fact, he’s so far from being an issue that he’s an emphatic non-issue. I already told him that I didn’t think we were together.” Her eyes grew wide when she realized what Tara might think that meant. “Him and me, not you and me, cause it would be great if we were together. Not that I think we are, I just hope and…” She stopped again and took a deep breath. “Tara, I feel something-”

Before Willow could begin babbling again, Tara replaced her hand on Willow’s cheek. She moved forward and whispered in six words what the other woman was thinking. “I know, I feel it too.”

Willow could feel Tara’s breath upon her own and so, acting purely on instinct, she closed the distance. Tara’s heart soared as she felt the velvety softness of Willow’s lips brushing against her own. She deepened the kiss, running her tongue along Willow’s bottom lip before gently pushing inside. They kissed gently and passionately, tongues caressing one another as lips mingled. Every brush of their lips felt like electricity. Minutes later they parted, both breathing heavily, their eyes darkened with arousal. Willow gave Tara one last kiss, their lips meeting in a chaste embrace. “Goodnight, Tara,” she whispered, afraid that anything louder would disturb the dream she was experiencing.

“Goodnight, Willow,” Tara returned. Her heart was beating erratically in her chest, her entire being felt like it was vibrating. They faced each other, their breaths mingled as the distance closed between their bodies. Tara encircled her arms around Willow’s waist as Willow pulled her hand to Tara’s hip. In moments they were both asleep, their minds conveying a single thought that neither woman had spoken.

I love you.

OK, now I'm hooked.

This is really getting good. I like the way the basic nature of the characters shines through the amnesia. I am a little worried about the crystal left forgotten (ignored) in the sewer, but I'm sure you'll deal with that in time.

Keep it coming. It's really good.

Oh man. Ok, so I haven't left anyone feedback in... quite a while, and to be quite honest, I haven't had much of a chance to read any of the stories lately.

But... I saw your title, and I don't know how long I've been looking for a Tabula Rasa spin-off exactly like this one, but I literally squealed out loud when I saw it. I think it might've made me a bit turned on to tell you the truth. ;-)

So yeah, I hope that this story plays out the way I've always pictured a story in my head.. and it doesn't end up with the spell being broken.. I think that the episode would have been the perfect opportunity for Willow to never have become an addict, and their relationship to be the perfect one it should be.. and of course for Tara to never die. Basically... the perfect ending to the perfect couple, which we all know could have never happened in any real show.

So thank you for creating the piece I've been searching for, and you're doing more than what I could've ever hoped for, and I look forward to returning for each chapter :)

Ashleigh

Hey everyone. Thought I'd reply to a bit of feedback. Chapter 4 will be posted in a few days. I'm trying to write more chapters, but homework has been keeping me busy. That and my family, since my b-day's in a couple of days. Anyways, back to the replies.

Roger Doger: Glad you're liking the premise. Stick with it, and there'll be lots more fun ;-)

Numen: You haven't watched Tabula Rasa yet?! *Passes out on the floor* Ok, I've come to and I still can't believe it. I know it's sad, but it really is one of the best eps. I'm happy you like their connection. I can sort of see the "Hush" reference. Maybe in the way they can communicate so much without words? ;-) Squee, huh? Woohoo. I'll be updating soon. Thankyou for the comments.

JujuDeRoussie: You got dibs! Thankyou for the compliment. And yes, definitely a promise. Hope I at least fulfilled slightly with the latest chapter. They are in a sense innocents. I like to think that all the badness from season 6 evaporated with the spell, and what's left is their natural character-y goodness.

cantbefredless: Yay, I hooked one! Thankyou for the feedback :p

dlline: Before I respond, I just wanted to say that I love the fic you're writing. Woo and hoo for The Rosenberg Files ;-) Ok, back to the reply. I'm glad you're enjoying it. I wanted to keep the general feeling of memory loss, but I still liked the idea of them having an innate sense about certain things. And I promise, the crystal will be dealt with.

Sapphire Eyes: I'm so happy you're loving it. I enjoyed writing it, so I'm glad you're enjoying reading it.

Dianneswillowtree: Great one? Another hook? It's like fanfic author heaven! Leading the way...

The Rose24: Hehe, good to hear the love. I love the idea of Willow and Tara getting another shot at the rough patch, so them falling in love all over again was really appealing. Updating in a few days ;-)

VixenyTarasHot: I was really looking forward to someone doing a fic like this too. But, since I figured no one else was doing it, I might as well :p

I literally squealed out loud when I saw it. I think it might've made me a bit turned on to tell you the truth.

Well, uh, um. Various sounds of hesitation. Lol. I'm not sure if it will play out the way you're expecting, but I can promise a happy ending ;-) This is a second chance for them, and things will go differently. No thanks required. It's so much fun for me to write, and this is an idea I've been playing with ever since I saw Tabula Rasa. Thanks again :peace

Tabula Rasa Perpetua

Chapter 4- Magic

The lethal sunrays had driven the vampire into the sewers. Dusty trudged through the rancid tunnels, mumbling under his breath. The daytime was horrible. During the night time he was king; he was the predator and the weak humans were prey. But during the day, he was a second class citizen, forced to hide under the city until he could reclaim his throne at night. Dusty wasn’t the most powerful of vampires, but that didn’t matter. It was as if after being turned, his ego had been enhanced. He was invincible, or at least felt like he was. There was only one thing vampires feared: The Slayer. Of course, the word in the demon world was that even she had gone soft. She was off her game, and there was even a rumor that she was involved with a vampire. The Slayer’s gang, her friends. They had gone soft too, or so the rumor was. Something about their memories. He had overheard some sort of half-man half-shark demon talking about it. Apparently, The Slayer and her pals were experiencing some sort of group amnesia. It didn’t matter to Dusty what was going on though. It just meant one less thing to worry about.

He climbed though a large hole in the tunnel that opened into a larger space. A gleam from the floor grabbed his attention, pulling him in that direction. He walked a few feet and stopped. Looking down, he noticed something. A dark crystal. Dusty bent down and palmed the stone, feeling it’s weight. He wasn’t sure what it was, but it didn’t hurt to pocket it. So, without a second thought, he dropped the crystal into his pants pocket and kept walking. The sun was barely up, but within hours, it would set again, and it would be his time once more.

---------------------

Tara awoke content. There were no other words to describe it. She was wrapped in a cocoon of happiness, or rather a cocoon of Willow. Either way the result was the same. She carefully extracted herself, pulling Willow’s leg off of her torso and gently lifting her arm from her shoulders. Successfully separated, she lied down on her side and just stared at the woman who had captured her heart in only one day. Of course, she didn’t know how long they had been together before the amnesia incident, but she knew that it didn’t matter. From the moment she had woken up yesterday, there had been something about Willow that had drawn her. Now, sitting there watching the woman of her dreams sleep, she couldn’t help but smile. The kisses they shared last night had been so passionate, so perfect. Her smile widened as Willow mumbled something about toads and raspberry hats in her sleep. She slowly extended her hand, fingers gently brushing through Willow’s auburn locks. Traveling downwards, her fingertips stroked the warm soft skin of Willow’s lips, her neck, her collarbone.

“You know, it’s customary to tell the person before you start molesting them.”

Tara immediately withdrew her hand and dropped her head, her blonde hair falling in front of her face in the process. “I d-didn’t… I m-mean I didn’t mean t-to…”

“Tara, Tara it’s ok. I was just kidding. That was stupid. I shouldn’t have done that. Cause now you’re all with the worry and the stuttering and-”

The feel of Tara’s lips covering her own quickly stopped all thought processes. She moved her mouth against Tara’s, reveling in the softness. Tara slowly pulled away, leaving a slightly dazed Willow with a goofy smile on her face. “Good morning,” Tara whispered.

“Yes, it is,” Willow said. She pulled Tara closer until their bodies melted against one another. Legs against legs, stomach against stomach, breasts against breasts, and lips against lips. Willow wrapped her arms around Tara’s waist while pressing her lips against Tara’s mouth. She gently parted Tara’s lips with her tongue and pushed inside.

Tara dueled with Willow, their tongues dancing in the soft inside of her mouth. She slowly moved her hand from Willow’s waist and traveled upwards, only stopping once she reached the crimson strands of hair framing Willow’s face. Gently threading her fingers through Willow’s curls, she formed a fist at the tips and pulled her even closer. Tara released the locks and moved downwards, tracing her neck and down to her collarbone. Suddenly, Willow’s lips left Tara’s and she whimpered at the loss of contact, only to moan when she felt Willow’s lips begin to assault her neck. The red-head’s tongue traced a path of fire across her skin, her moan growing louder as Willow’s teeth nipped at her neck.

Willow moved her hand from Tara’s waist and dragged it slowly upwards. Her breath hitched when she felt the soft globe of flesh beneath the tips of her fingers. Very slowly, she began to massage Tara’s breast through her night shirt, and gasped when Tara’s hands began to mirror the movements. Willow was breathing heavily, her mind feeling lightheaded from the contact. A groan came from the back of Tara’s throat, and shot straight to Willow’s center. She could feel herself losing control, and her mind abruptly cleared. They had only known each other for a day for all she knew. And here she was, about to make love to a woman that she, in all honesty, didn’t know. But did it matter? Did it honestly matter, her mind countered. She could have known Tara for five minutes or fifty years, and her heart would still feel the same. Her mind waged a silent war, one part of her wanting nothing more than to continue along the path she was headed; to feel Tara’s pulse below her lips and taste her arousal on her fingers. But the other piece of her mind wanted to stop. To savor every moment and make it last, and to not rush into something that both women might regret. With an inward sigh, she reigned in her passion, slowing her lips until only light kisses remained.

Willow slowly pulled back until she could gaze at Tara, and her heart broke slightly at the unrestrained panic expressed in the blonde’s deep blue eyes. “Shh, shh baby. I didn’t want to stop. I didn’t. It’s just we, you know, sort of met yesterday. Except we didn’t, or maybe we did. But it doesn’t matter, because I know what I feel, and it’s crazy because I’ve known you for probably the second time for only a day. And I really wanted to keep doing what we we’re doing but I didn’t know what you wanted to do.” She took a deep breath and searched Tara’s eyes again, breathing a sigh of relief as she realized the fear had dissipated and been replaced with amusement.

She called me baby. Tara shot Willow a half-smile and gave her a lingering kiss. “I know what you mean,” she said. “I’ve only known you for a day, and yet…” She trailed off, unable to express in words her feelings for Willow.

A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. Through the wood frame they heard Joan’s voice. “Willow? Tara? It’s time to get up.”

Willow called out a confirmation and they heard Joan walk away. “I guess we should get up,” Willow said, a dissatisfied tone lacing her voice.

“Yeah, I guess so,” Tara agreed. Reluctantly, they both rose from the bed. Tara walked over to the wardrobe and picked out a set of clothes for herself. She placed the clothes on the bed and walked towards Willow. Putting her arms around the red-head’s waist, she pulled her close. “Whatever is going on, I just want you to know even if we only met yesterday, I lo-” She stopped, realizing what she had been about to say. “I like you Willow, so much. You’re amazing.”

Willow smiled. She buried her head in Tara’s neck and kissed the soft skin that she found there. “I like you too. And if we never get our memories back, then I’ll be happy to spend the rest of my life getting to know you better.” Tara breathed a contented sigh and pressed her body more firmly against Willow. After a few moments of just appreciating the closeness of their bodies, Tara gently pulled away, gathered her clothes, and went into the bathroom. Willow watched her retreating form and smiled again. An hour later, both women were showered, dressed, and ready to go. Before leaving the bedroom, they shared one last kiss and walked out, their hands intertwined as if they had known each other forever.

---------------------

The group arrived at the Magic Box, minus Randy. Joan had mumbled something about him sun burning easily, and that he would meet them there later. Willow walked through the bookshelves, feeling oddly at home. “I think we should research about magic. Our lost memories are probably the result of some spell, so that seems the best place to start.” Tara and Dawn nodded their heads in agreement while Alex and Joan looked distraught at the idea of reading all day.

“So, learn about the basics first? Then m-maybe we could try something,” Tara contributed. “I mean, that spell last night just c-came from nowhere, but if we can find a different spell-”

“Then we could get our memories back!” Willow interrupted, very excited at Tara’s idea. She gave her a brilliant smile and went back to the shelves, pulling out several books on the basics of magic.

---------------------

“Nngh…”

Anya put down the book she was reading. She had bought the romance paperback for three dollars in the gift shop, and while it probably wasn’t the most entertaining book she had ever read (she couldn’t be sure), it at least passed the time. She looked over at Rupert and shook her head, wondering if she had imagined the sound. She watched him for any sign of movement and was just about to start reading again when his eyes opened. Anya dropped the book again and leaned closer. “Rupy?”

“Anya?” Her name came out as a whisper, so her cleared his throat and tried again. “Anya, what happened?”

“Well, I was reading from a spell book, and through no fault of my own, well maybe a tiny bit of fault, you went to sleep. At first I thought you were dead, so I called an ambulance, but you had a pulse so obviously you weren’t. And here you are, awake now!” She smiled widely, happy to recount her tale.

Rupert tried to return the smile, but only managed a slight frown as he remembered what happened. “You read the spell that I clearly told you not to read, and I passed out and ended up in the hospital because of it. Is that what you’re telling me?” Anya nodded her head, clearly excited that she had explained things correctly. “Bloody hell woman, no wonder I’m leaving you!”

“Leaving me?” She looked stricken for a moment before her face turned dark with anger.

“Yes, leaving. In my jacket pocket last night I found a one-way ticket to London, and out of this engagement!” He exclaimed, his voice full of irritation.

“Of all the nerve! You snobby, snotty, thinks he’s so great kind of a jerk… and I feel compelled to take some vengeance on you!” Without another word, she snatched the empty bedpan from beside her chair and smacked him over the head with it. He passed out immediately, his body already worn from the spell Anya had placed on him earlier. Anya let a smug grin grace her face as she finished her thought to the now unconscious man. “And the engagement is off!”

---------------------

Willow lifted her head from the book she was reading and glanced at Tara for a few moments, before turning her gaze downwards once more. They were seated at opposite ends of the table, and it was a struggle to not stare at Tara. The blonde was so beautiful it took her breath away. She shivered slightly as memories from last night and that morning flashed through her mind. Tara’s kiss swollen lips, her sparkling blue eyes, her beautifully sculpted nose and cheekbones. Inside her mind, she moved her gaze south, to Tara’s creamy neck. She kept traveling, pausing for a few more moments than she should have at Tara’s generous assets. Her eyes continued to move, falling onto the blonde’s curvy hips and shapely legs. She shivered once more, fully aware that if she did not stop her mind’s path she would not be able to comprehend the book she was supposed to be reading.

Breathing a soft defeated sigh, Willow shook her head, trying to push away the thoughts that she should definitely not be thinking. Her gaze once more settled upon the book, only to drift upwards again. It was as if Tara was a magnet that Willow was unable to keep from being attracted to. She felt her pulse quicken as she locked eyes with Tara.

Tara was going crazy. She wasn’t sure if it was actually possible to go insane from staring at someone, but she was sure that it was happening. For hours they had been researching, reading all about the basics of magic; and while she didn’t mind the research, she certainly did mind having to read when she could have been kissing Willow. She looked up from her research materials for the hundredth time that day and found Willow’s eyes with her own. They stared at each other for several minutes, neither willing to break the gaze. Tara felt her breathing grow shallow as she stared into Willow’s emerald eyes. Even Willow’s eyes fixed on her own were enough to drive Tara mad.

“Hey!” Joan exclaimed.

Willow eyes snapped from Tara’s and she panicked. “No I wasn’t!” She calmed down slightly as she realized no one had accused her of anything. “I mean, what’s going on?” She chanced one more look at Tara and was pleased to see her trying to contain a giggle.

“Jeez, Willow. Jumpy much?” Joan continued, failing to notice Willow’s now bright red cheeks. “I was just thinking that maybe Tara should practice. In case we do find something.”

“Practice?” Tara asked.

“You mean like have her shoot some witchy magic at a target?” Alex wondered, confused at Joan’s idea.

“No. She should try some stuff, maybe a simple spell. I mean, we haven’t learned much, but it seems like it could help.”

Dawn nodded her head, excited at the prospect of watching Tara do another spell. “Could I watch? I promise I won’t make any noise, and oh!” She flipped through her book, lading on a previously read page. “Here’s something. The book says it’s pretty simple. Used for control or something like that.”

Tara gave Dawn a smile and reached over to grab the book. She scanned the section and smiled again. “I g-guess I could try it. It sounds pretty.”

“What’s the spell?” Willow asked.

“Floating a rose. It’s used to focus the spell caster and control their energy. Once the rose floats, I can try and pluck the petals. It’s the second part of the spell.”

“It’ll be beautiful,” Willow said without thinking while she lost herself in Tara’s eyes. Tara blushed as she realized Willow wasn’t just talking about the rose.

“So, Tara gets her witchiness on and the rest of us keep reading?” Alex groaned at the idea. “Man, why couldn’t I have been the witch,” he grumbled.

Tara smiled and rose from her chair, still holding the book in her hands. “I’m just going to f-find the ingredients.” In an act of what she thought must be uncharacteristic boldness; Tara put a small plan into action. “Willow, d-do you think you could help me?”

“Hey, what about me?” Alex whined. “I bet I could help.”

Tara looked at Willow, her eyes never leaving the red-head’s even as she responded to Alex’s question. “I think Willow can help me just… perfectly,” she said, as her lips curled into a sensual half-smile. Willow gulped at the raw passion expressed in Tara’s eyes and nodded her head. She jumped from her chair and followed Tara as she walked into the back room.

“Hey, the spell stuff is out here!” Joan yelled as the two women walked away. With no response, Joan just shrugged her shoulders as the rest of the group continued reading.

Willow and Tara entered the back and stopped, just looking at each other. For several moments they stood an arm’s length apart, until simultaneously they closed the distance. Their lips met in a desperate kiss, hours having been too long a time in which they had not touched. Willow wrapped her arms around Tara’s waist and pulled her closer as Tara placed her arms around Willow’s neck. Minutes passed as they stayed that way, their lips conveying their passion as the air was pushed from between their bodies. They parted, both women breathing heavily as Tara leaned her forehead against Willow’s, not allowing too much distance to come between them.

“We should probably get started,” Tara whispered. “I don’t know how long the spell will take.” Willow nodded her head in agreement and they slowly parted. Tara took the lead and re-entered the main area of the magic shop, forcing herself not to look back at Willow. She was sure if she did, they would not ever leave the private area.

“Um, we don’t have a rose,” Willow said. “But I think I saw a flower shop on the way here. Want me to run and get one?” Tara smiled shyly and whispered her thanks. Willow returned the smile with a bright one of her own and ran out the door. While Willow was gone, Tara found the only other ingredient she needed from one of the shelves. She entered the back room again, wanting to perform the spell in privacy, and set about making the magical symbol. Very carefully, Tara poured the white sand in a circle. She connected the four directions of the circle with four points of a diamond. Just as she completed the symbol, Willow walked in, holding two red roses.

“I didn’t need two roses, Will,” Tara said.

A lazy grin spread over Willow’s face as she heard Tara call her Will. She walked forward and handed both flowers to Tara. “I know. One is for the spell, and one is for you,” she murmured shyly.

Tara looked down at the two roses in her hand and looked back at Willow, giving her a full blown smile. Willow’s heart fluttered in her chest as she gazed at the woman before her. Tara leaned forwards and softly brushed her lips over Willow’s. As she pulled back, she was pleased to see that Willow’s eyes had glazed over and a goofy smile had replaced her earlier one. “Thank you,” Tara whispered. She sat down cross-legged and placed one rose at her side. The other she placed in the middle of the circle she had drawn.

Willow walked over to the bench and sat down, making sure she was far enough away that she didn’t disturb Tara. Dawn walked in just as Willow sat down and joined her on the bench. The room was silent as Tara sat in front of the circle, her eyes closed and her breathing deep. For several minutes, she concentrated on the task at hand. She focused on the energy surrounding the rose. She could see it in her mind’s eye. It was there, a sort of fog, surrounding the flower. The energy was tinted red around the petals and green near the stem as it pulsed with life. She tried to lift the flower, imagining a translucent hand pushing the rose up from under it. Several minutes passed as she concentrated on the spell, her mind straining to manipulate the rose’s energy field. Her breathing grew shallow as she tried too hard and lost the connection, a light sheen covering her now reddened face. She opened her eyes and looked immediately at Willow, forcing a slight smile. Without being asked to, Willow rose from the bench and walked over to Tara. She sat down opposite her and reached over the circle, grabbing her hands in a show of support. Dawn watched them curiously, wondering if something was going on between the two women. Her curious gaze turned to one of shock as she took in the scene before her.

The moment Willow had touched Tara’s hands; a spark had passed through her. She locked eyes with Tara, wondering if the blonde had felt it too. A single look told her the feeling was mutual. The symbol beneath their hands began to glow and a slight wind swirled around them. Slowly, the rose that had been placed upon the circle started to rise off the floor. Both Willow and Tara gasped softly as the rose floated to the height of their conjoined hands. The rose continued to levitate as both women focused their minds to the task. The petals were plucked one by one and, instead of falling to the ground, they floated as well, forming a circle. By the time all the petals had been removed, they danced around Willow and Tara’s heads, forming a beautiful swirling wall of rose petals.

Willow and Tara kept their hands connected as they took in what their magic had created. They locked eyes once again, and smiled at each other. Instinctually, the two women gravitated towards one another and softly kissed. Joan and Alex stood in the doorway, their jaws hanging wide open. Willow and Tara were in the middle of a soft light, rose petals dancing around them as they connected in a passionate kiss. Dawn’s expression was similar to the others as she watched the scene before her. Alex shut his jaw with an audible snap and said the first thing that came to his mind. “That was awesome!”
