Well, I did until I worked in a cake factory. It took quite some time to get over it.

And even now I have an aversion to marzipan. You don't wanna know why ;)

I've only had two jobs, and I did'nt realise how much I hated the first one 'til I left. I'm usually happy in my current job.

Thank you [b:54a72c59c9]Emma[/b:54a72c59c9] for making me sing Oompa Loompa all day. And you've just reminded me that one of my uncle's used to call me "Marzipan" when I was lickle [img:54a72c59c9]http://homepage.eircom.net/~mollyig/bouncypink.gif[/img:54a72c59c9]

The worst job that I have had was temping for 4 months at an insurance company in the claims department. We handled mostly claims for truckers. Some parts of it were okay, the people I worked with were nice, but it was so crazy monotonous. I would answer phones and take claims over the phone (which could be really interesting because some of these accidents could be interesting), tell people if their checks had gone out yet, talk to doctor's offices wanting to know why they hadn't gotten paid yet, and worst of all, I folded all of the checks going out every day. It was so BORING, and i couldn't listen to music, couldn't go on the internet while at work, and I got paper cuts ALL THE TIME!

I like my job now. In fact, I'm at work now. I work at the circulation desk of the theological library at school and get to go on the computer a lot and do readings for classes while i'm here, and i get to handle really old books! We have some books from the 1600s here which look SO cool. I always get to go into the "employee only" section of the library and handle old sermons printed in the 1700s and fun stuff like that. I always get a thrill from handling something that's so old. and I love the smell of old books. :) And I get to see people who come in and talk to friends a lot.

Distributing those little advertisement papers we get from supermarkets every weekend. 4 or 5 different types, about 800 each. Which involved getting up at 7 on Sunday mornings and finishing around noon. And wasn't actually that bad in acceptable wheather which would be anything with temperatures above 5C. Because you absolutely couldn't wear gloves if you wanted to get those pesky glossy papers apart.

And I've worked in a call-center. People were just supposed to tell me the order number and the prize of the stuff they wanted to buy. And a lot of them were like that: "I'd like to have that nice sweater you have. It's on page 23 - no 25. It's really beautiful. And not expensive. I'd like the blue one please" - "Yes, could you please tell me the number?" - "Just one moment........ aah <insert favorite number>. Or maybe the yellow one would be better..." Which isn't too bad for 2 or 3 hours. But try doing it from 6 pm till midnight :yawn

But honestly, I think nothing's gonna be worse than the chicken thing :shock

I've actually had pretty good luck with jobs in my short life. I suppose the worst job I've ever had was working at a movie theater at the concession stand. I learned things about movie theater food that made me regret every bucket of popcorn I ever bought. *shudder*

Hugs Xita - no reason except everyone else is and I'm not going to miss out on any Xita action. I have a couple of friends who are teachers and experience the same kind of things you do. Love the teaching bit - but the admin gets in the way.

Worst job was when I was at college (high school for those in the US). I was a checkout operator at the local supermarket. And because I was a school kid (and not one of the hard ladies who had been there for 20 years) I always had to serve all the smelly people. I'm sorry - I know I should be all PC and say that these people were down on their luck and I shouldn't complain - but smelly is just stinky.

Jobs...ohhhh
one of 2
one was selling phone service over the phone. Calling people up in the middle of the dayand nagging them to switch. This was shit.
The first day, we had a sales motivator "train" us. An old salesman type, who played "eye of the tiger" for us until the tape broke (thank you god!). We were encourged be creative in the way we got people to switch..very creative
3 days, and I was gone

The other was a researcher at MIT Lincoln Labs...
Zzzzzz
Never have I had so much free time at work, never. It was so restful...

Willow: She is very smart, but I see Tutor as her bottom rung job for college.
Tara:I know she has worn the doublemeat palance uniform. And yet, she still looked cute as hell in it.

Tech support has its ups and downs, thankfully most of our users are pretty computer-savvy and only need help with REAL problems. And I actually do like the more advanced application support, it's amazing what you can do with Excel when you know how. ;)

The worst job I could think of would be working swinging shifts for meager pay in a depressing, hostile environment - or in other words, fast food...

Poor BoredNow she had to [quote:9431c9b188]Quote:
stick a plastic piece of holly into the corner of Christmas cakes as they sped by
[/quote:9431c9b188]

See, now this is why I love the kitten, b/c I end up learning things I never knew and would never know but for coming here. Honestly, I had no idea that Holley had any plastic pieces. I suspected she had some plastic toys and such, but apparently some of Holley's original parts are actually plastic.

What I'm still unclear on and perhaps Em can elaborate here, when you pull Holley's plastic piece OUT of the cake, isn't that kinda fun to lick it off? What? I'm just saying . . .

I've had an obscene number of jobs in my life and can't say that I enjoyed many of them. I hated baking donuts for most all of the reasons Emma has already explained. But the worst job I ever had is actually a tie:

The summer after high school I had a job cleaning the kitchens of restaurants and for some godawful reason we specialized in cleaning the grease pits built into the floors of most industrial kitchens. Unfortunately, if not cared for properly, animal fats poured down the pits congeal and all manner of bugs and uglies burrow into the congealed fat to live and lay their eggs. Maggots ran rampant. Ugh.

Which was a tie with my job where I worked at a sewage plant raking beds of "solid waste". This was in Colorado where the winters are snowy and sometimes cold, so sheets of ice formed on the solid waste beds. The methane gas that is endemic with solid waste would build up pressure under the sheets of ice until the beds would explode in a literal shit storm. So we had to make holes in the ice to allow the gas to escape. We walked out onto the beds with a bronze spike and hammer (they are least likely to throw a spark and ignite the gas) and hammer holes in the ice above the shit.

No wonder I forced myself to get a degree and a job where the shit and maggots may be rampant, but at least they're metaphorical.

Awww Xita, I hope it gets better for you soon. And yeah, it's the weekend! :)

Zahir, I send you my best wishes in finding a new job soon, hopefully one you'll enjoy very much. :)

Ahh, jobs I've hated. Well, the one right now pretty much takes the cake. I work at Tim Horton's and I positively HATE it! We get paid peanuts for running our asses off for customers who treat you like shit for the most part. Occasionally you get one that makes your entire day, but mostly it's all just very frustrating and I want to smack myself over the head with a coffee pot!

relativegirl, I wish I could think of a response....but I can't stop laughing....

....help me....plastic pieces....oh God....

You know what? I actually do have some metal parts in my arm and ankle. But those wouldn't really be appropriate for putting on cakes.

If I ever do get any plastic pieces, I will make absolutely certain you are informed of that development.

Pardon me while I fall out of my chair laughing....

Kieli...is there anything I should know about Hershey Park or Friendly's that's really bad? Especially Friendly's...I happen to go there a lot.

Eesh...worst job? Working fast food full time @ McDonald's for two years as a crew trainer starting at 15 years old. I had some cool managers but by God, the other people there were such bastards. I think working 10 hours on a Saturday w/o any breaks is kind of illegal. Not to mention all the other lovely scheduling those people did. And all the burn scars. And we had such nice people come in all the time screaming at us "I didn't spend 4 years in college to have to pour my own damn drink! Worthless juveniles!" Ah, the good old days. I won't go into other people's definitions of "clean", either. Ick!

Gotta love my job @ JCPenney now 'cus at least I have a smile on my face while I'm going insane.

eesh...sorry bout the sig, Warduke

I've had a few jobs that were shocking but my last one was the worst of the lot...

Video editing job, 5 and a half day week, 'official' hours were 9am - 6pm and 9am - 1pm on Saturdays with 1 hour lunch breaks, actual hours were more like 9am - 9pm and 9am - 5pm on Saturdays with at most half-hour lunch breaks and once I even worked from 7am - 4pm without a break and when I finally couldn't take it anymore and wanted to leave my prison cell, oops, editing suite, the boss stopped me and insisted that I finish my project before I go anywhere.

On top of that, the pay was crap! If the pay was okay I would have been able to tolerate it. Even with the pop quizes that the boss loved to spring on his employees and I think he really likes the sound of his own loud, booming voice cause he was forever lecturing someone about something or other ... straw that broke my back was when five weeks in I found out from an intern (he was treated even more shabbily than I) who had just resigned that my days were numbered. The company was actively looking for a new editor to replace me cause I wasn't hard working enough for them... needless to say, I quit.

in my intro to new testament course the other day, my professor read us this snippet from the secret Gospel of Mark:
And the young man, looking at Jesus, loved him and began to beseech him that he might be with him. ... And after six days Jesus gave him an order; and when the evening had come, the young man went to him, dressed with a linen cloth over his naked body. And he remained with him that night, because Jesus taught him the mystery of the kingdom of God.

this is an actual snippet from ancient biblical texts. :D

My worst job was at a gas station a few years ago. I never realized just how many people there are out there that will actually try and scam free fuel. That and the smell.
I swear, between inhaling the car exhaust and the constant intake of gas fumes Im sure I lost some brain cells. Honestly I dont know how my old boss could still work there after some 15 years when I lasted less than 2.

I think the worst job for Willow would be telemarketing. She would go off babbling on and on with each customer and never be able to sell anything. It would probably be too frustrating for her to handle.
Taras worst job might be as a waitress at a bar. For some reason I think rowdy (drunk) men would want to make her run and hide.

If there's one thing I hate, it's having to lie. Even being paid to do it doesn't make it any better. But when I worked at a women's clothing store, about three years ago, I had to compliment these women who looked hideous in the store's clothes. They'd ask my honest opinion about some horrid muu-muu outfit, and I'd open my mouth, then receive an evil glare from the manager, so I'd be forced to say something like "oh, it's lovely...the colour really suits you!" and grin at them. *sigh*

Now I work with little kids, at after-school care, and it's a great job. The kids are a little bit too Chipper for my liking, but we still have a great time.

I can really see Will working with kids, maybe doing story-telling or puppet shows in a bookshop, but some job where she can put on different voices and be as quirky as she likes. Tara I can see working as a psychic, maybe having her own store selling magical items, or natural products.

Christ! all of these horrific stories have left me with a desperate urge to become a hermit and never ever leave my bed.
Worse job? Honestly, mine can't even compare to the above examples.

The one I have now is so dull that by the end of the day I sometimes can't remember how to operate the cash register. My brain will be catatonic. I also have the added bonus of being expected to actively lie to costomers who I know are not going to recive thier product anywhere near the timeline I give them.
You haven't lived until you've been berated for an hour by a costomer (that turns out to be a lawyer) and spend that time apologizing for something that isn't even remotly your fault.

Worst W/T job? I don't know. Working at the Gap maby.

I'm not even going to speculate about how you could have...stumbled across that...

Please tell me when music quit being about your talent and started being only about your body?

And naked women with guitars...that's just stupid. And it offends me. Naked men with guitars offends me, too. Can we please just have some decent music for a change?

Everything offends me, I think. It's a wonder I can make it through a single day.

Enid, I fucking love you. Just had to mention that. Hee.

And Ruf, I must say that I think your talents were wasted warping the minds of the young. I think they're much better suited to warping minds right here at the Kitten board, with me at your side, my naked body shrouded in a linen cloth.

I shall learn the ways of smut at your feet and go forth into the world, spreading your wisdom to the corners of the earth.

Biblical smut, baby. It doesn't get much better than that.

areslei: Other than you don't really want to know what they do to the food? And that a lot of the fountain workers snack on the toppings while working? *shudder* Hershey Park was just evil. I had to break up several drunked, stoned fights (which at my height and weight was as laughable as it gets), I've been puked on, bled on, had my feet run over by a disgruntled customer (that was when I was working as HersheyPark security), attacked by a guy who was off his meds, had to suck ass just to even get anywhere (which really, in retrospect, was not worth the effort) and the list goeth on. I liked Friendly's until the day my manager had a nervous breakdown during a busy shift. But I absolutely hated coming home every night caked in grill grease, marshmallow topping, congealed fudge topping and various other unnamed things that somehow made my uniform into a stiff mess.

Really though, RG's shitty job (no pun intended...well, not really :lol ) takes the cake. I so would NOT have wanted her job for any amount of money.
