So glad everything was OK with Abbey. *Whew*

And Bufy should know her best friend better than to question motives!! Great stuff!

This is scary... Buffy making sense....:eek . She didn't question Tara's motives btw. She just wondered if the outcome would be worth the trouble (past and future), and if Tara actually is aware of all the possible troubles.

Thats not supposed to happen. Willow is supposed to make sense while Buffy runs around...hmm... Buffy's instinct is just 'fight' by the way, she hasn't figured out the 'flight' part yet :) .

No matter how pretty that cave is (and I'm sure it's very nice:) ), putting your daughter and wife in danger over it isn't very smart (not sure if Tara really thought it through that much though). Get them, or at least Abby, out of harms way and faaaar away already.

Seems Willow and Tara have decided to stay and fight for the cave-in-a-backwards-town, fine.... as long as they realize they're not really welcome around there anyway. Would be nice if they realize they have to fight in the first place and keep Abby safe 24 hours/day... if you can't do that leave. In the end the cave is just a material asset which can be rebuild, that doesn't work for Abby (or Willow). It's not like all problems with that town go away with Donnie anyway, a mayor one goes...sure : -->>: .

Willow venting anger at Buffy, thats one way to get rid of it :) . Hardly usefull though, hinders truly thinking about the situation at hand. Letting emotion guide you during dangerous situations, hmmm....doesn't strike me as very smart.

Take all the books and other materials you can carry/transport (it's not like the cave actually IS the only thing Tara has left now is it? A book of shadows was mentioned I believe?) and get the heck back to Sunnydale. Heck, why would you want any property in Tara's hometown ?? Not like you would visit there just for fun...and once again I'm agreeing with Buffy....whats wrong here ? :smug

Why in the world does Abby need to know Donnie is familly ? Just tell her he's a bad man (trust me, he is :smash ) and to stay close to her two mommies and Buffy. The familly bit just confuses things more.

Ah well, stay close together, get the will and ownership handled. Then get the hell out of there and don't return.

Enough rambling already...heh..

hello

Just managed to catch up on this wonderful story.

The emotion you put into the moment when Abby learned about her Uncle Donny was palpable.

But Tara and Willow were right to tell her, it would have been so much harder for her to understand if she had overheard someone like Anya saying that "The bad man" was her Uncle.

This way both her parents are with her to help her understand, although she is very intuitive anyway.

A great story, thanks for writing it.

Yay Abbey’s OK.:D

Urn this was a really cool update. Even with the slight cliffhanger at the end. It was really nice to see that Abbey got a chance to see the cave. I couldn’t help at first to agree with Buffy about getting’ out of dodge at leaving that hell hole behind, but I’m glad Tara is willing to fight for what is rightfully hers and her daughter’s. Kinda wish though that they could fight from a safer distance. Regardless, more power to her (Tara) for being the strong woman she is. I myself am very proud of her for sticking to her guns.

Once again Urn thank you for the lovely update-y goodness.

Crayon Breaky Willow was very cool.;) Thank You for that too. Sad to see it go, but grateful we had it at all. Helped alot to aliviate some of the cliffhanger tension from before.

Urn of Osiris: Great update, I am SO GLAD that Abbey is safe, I was a little worried there for a while. I'm also glad that Willow and Tara decided to tell Abbey about Donnie, though they may hurt she needs to know these things. I really liked that Willow showed Buffy the cave and I also really liked that Abbey saw the cave too, very cool. I can't wait to read more.

“NO!” Willow nervously waved her hands. “I didn’t tell her anything.”

Lone wolf ...... I'm glad you liked it. I thought it was important for her to get the info first hand. Sometimes the truth is less painful coming from the people who love and support you. Plus Anya (need I say more?)

As for Buffy, sometimes you need to see what you are fighting for. She needs to have everything spelled out for her. I've never really had much use for her any way.

Chel...... You darling. :kiss Where to even begin with replies to your feedback. You and your :grin were dearly missed. Did you really think I'd have Abbey Kidnapped by that man :shock . No way.

The crying got ya. Cool. I really wanted to show a contrast there between them all, glad it worked for you.

Buffy is all action and she needed to see this part of Tara.

heh and the "understanding thing" LOL Just to lighten the moment and give Buffy one more facet to the Sparkling Diamond that is Tara. :grin

Thanks for reading.

Here you go, next chapter I hope you all enjoy it. Thanks for being so patient.

Chapter 31

Buffy drove slowly through the winding hills. Her eyes drifted back and forth between the road and the images in her rear view mirror, curiously straining to see them reading.

Willow thumbed carefully through the book of shadows, discovering the answers to so many questions. Having found the secrets to the family cabin she began to read to the occupants of the truck.

“It says here that your Mother used the cabin as a hiding place.” Willow looked at her wife. “Did you know she needed to hide?”

Tara shook her head, curious to hear the rest of the words. Abigail looked up from her drawing, watching the women react to the information. Casually, she returned to her artwork, comforted by their gentle eyes.

“I had no idea she used the cabin at all.” She reflected on her childhood, running through the few times she could remember being there. “We’d only ever gone once or twice and then it was just to make sure it was empty.” Tara leaned over her daughter, taking a closer look at the pages. “Read the rest.”

“Are you sure you want me to share it?” She pointed with her eyes, directing the glance at her child.

Tara gave a gentle smile. “Well you can edit a bit here and there but only if you have to.”

Willow flattened the page in front of her, feeling the rippled surface against her palms. Slowly she skimmed the contents of book, before reading them aloud:

Today I blessed granny’s cabin. Steven has been so angry and I’m worried he’ll find me in this place. I’ve cast a spell of protection here; no one will ever harm a Bennett woman while standing between these four walls.

Buffy stretched her neck trying to watch Willow reading. “Wow, what else does it say?”

Willow continued.

I’ve decided to mask the spell. My darling daughter may one day need a place to hide. I will share this secret with her alone.

Willow paused, her eyes quickly skimming the next paragraph, trailing over the most beautiful words she could ever imagine coming from a mother to her child. “Baby? I really think this next part is kinda… you know… private.”

She handed the book to her wife, watching her eyes slowly shift left to right, reading every sweet word.

The redhead expected tears but none came. She watched, captivated by the heavenly light radiating from her wife. Willow leaned against the seat of the car lost in thought, drifting through the events of her childhood. She missed the moments she’d never shared with her own mother, knowing how Tara and Elizabeth had cherished all of theirs. The redhead realized in that solemn moment her lover was the strongest woman she’d known.

“Will.” Tara called to her wife. “Sweetie…where did you go?”

She shook her head, clearing her thoughts. “Oh.. Oh…nowhere. What’s next?”

The blonde handed the book back to her wife. “Read the rest please.”

Buffy stopped the car, craning around the headrest of her seat. “Care to share what’s the what?”

“Later Buffy.” Willow turned the page and started to read. The text explained in full detail the elements of the spell.

“So your mom put up a barrier to protect you when you were inside?” Buffy turned around, pressing her palms into the steering wheel. “Wow talk about staying power.” She started driving along the twisting roads. “Hey Will? I was thinking.”

The redhead stared at the book, never moving her eyes from the text. “You were?”

The slayer laughed. “I was, and I’m wondering about the spell. How’s it work? You’re not a Bennett woman. Not by blood anyway.”

Tara interrupted, rubbing her hand across her daughters arm. “Will isn’t but Abigail is.” She smiled at her wife.

“According to this…” Willow skimmed the text. “If any spells are cast the magic your mother used would become active. If it’s cast by a Bennett woman her powers are strengthened. If they are cast by anyone else, their magics are absorbed and bound into the four walls. Basically…rendering them powerless.”

Tara rubbed her palms across her face. “Do you realize Will, that by trying to protect Abbey, we made you vulnerable?”

“We protected her.” Willow closed the book swiping her fingers across the cover. She passed it to her wife, feeling the warm flesh of her hand as they touched. They paused at the connection. “WE protected HER…that’s all that matters Tara.”

Abbey looked at her parents, shifting her innocent eyes from face to face. “We protected each other.”

The car fell silent. They watched their daughter drawing in the rumpled notebook. Buffy stopped the car, numbed by the child’s words.

“What Abbey girl?” Tara tipped her finger under the tiny blonde’s chin, tilting her head up from the notebook. “What do you mean?”

“Gramma’s spell, she did it for you and you did it for me. We did it for each other.” Her eyes trailed around the truck, watching the women react to her words.

“What do you mean Gramma did it?” Tara’s curiosity peaked. “What did you feel in the cabin Abbey?” The blonde watched her daughter process the experience, flipping through the night’s events in her mind.

“She was there mommy.” She lowered her head, concentrating on the drawing. “I could feel her there. If you go you’ll feel it too.”

Willow’s heart paced with fear. She hadn’t felt a presence and wanted to know more. “When Ab, tell me when?”

“Well it was like not feeling Mommy.” Her eyes focused on the sketch, searching her heart for the feelings. “You felt that mom. I remember.” She smiled at the redhead.

Willow reached across the car squeezing her wife’s hand, feeling the energy from their connection. “Yes Abbey I remember. I remember I didn’t like it.”

“Well that’s what it felt like only just spin it in a circle. Cause Gramma feels really good in my heart.” She smiled, pausing to hold her tiny palm against her chest. “Feels like having you there.” She looked at her parents.

“We like being there sweetie.” Tara kissed the soft skin of her lover’s hand.

“Auntie Buffy can we go now?” Abbey leaned against the seat, folding the cover of her book.

The slayer flexed the muscles of her jaw, fighting the urge to drop it open. “Um sure Ab. I’m pretty sure we are ready now.” She watched her friends nod, queuing her to leave.

*********~

“Call Tara now!” Anya handed the piece of paper to Xander. “Dawn!” The ferocious tone startled the girl. “Call Tara and Buffy, they need to know that Donnie took Willow.”

“What?” Brenda’s eyes fluttered open, quickly focusing on the people in the room. “Donnie did what?” She pushed her body up from the bed, sitting over the edge. “Show me.”

Anya shook her head, denying access to any information. Xander forced the contents back into the envelope. “Call Tara Dawn. We’ll talk to her first.”

The younger Summers sister picked up the cell phone from the table, dialing her sister and their friend. “It’s ringing.”

They waited for a response.

Brenda stared at her sleeping child. She watched the minute change on the digital clock, knowing it was time to treat his legs. She slipped across the bed to her son.

“HEY!” Anya stepped toward her. “What are you planning now?”

“I’m planning to put medicine on my child.” She stood to protect him. “Then I’m planning to go home.”

“Home? Are you serious?” Xander stepped toward her.

“Tara?” Dawn’s voice interrupted the argument. “Tara can you hear me?”

“Dawnie? I can hear you. In fact I was just about to call.” She reached her hand toward her lover’s. “I’ve got good news for you.”

“Really?” Dawn cupped the phone with her hand, sharing the information with the rest of the room. “She has good news.”

“Well give her our bad news first.” Anya frowned at Brenda, watching her closely. “Bad should always come first. So it doesn’t spoil the good. Right?”

Xander nodded. “Right… it off sets the bad news. So tell her Dawn.”

“Tara I should tell you.” Her words met with a welcome sound.

“It’s me Dawn…Willow.” The redhead felt the rush of relief flow between them. “It’s ok. I’m okay and Abbey is fine and we’re all fine.”

Dawn squealed, flipping her hand in front of her face with excitement. The crowded room watched, misinterpreting her response.

Anya gave a frustrated sigh, grabbing the phone, putting it to her ear. “Tara… Donnie has Willow.” Without caution she spat the words to her friend.

“Actually Anya.” Willow answered. “Tara has Willow and Abbey and we’re fine.”

“Well that sucks.” The room silenced around her.

Willow opened her mouth, forcing the stunned words from her lips. “WHAT?”

“We didn’t get to hunt him down and pummel him with razor sharp shovel blades.”

Willow furrowed her brow, hiding her amusement.

Xander grabbed his wife by the shoulder. “ix nay on the atred hey.” He jabbed his thumb toward the child, now awake on the bed. “ild chay.”

The ex-demon tilted her head, amused by his babbling. “I’m fairly certain he,” She pointed at Patrick. “Is beneath the require intelligence to understand what an evil human being his father is.”

”Right.” Dawn interrupted, grabbing the phone from the blonde, putting it to her ear. “But still, just be quiet.”

Anya changed the subject. “Where are they?”

“Will says they’ll be here in five minutes.”

***********~

The blazing sound of police sirens broke the silence of the morning, slowly fading as they approached the apartment complex. An old man, dressed in a terry cloth robe came shuffling out the front door.

“She’s upstairs.” He pointed inside. “He’s killed her.” He shuffled back against the door panic filling his face. “The Maclay boy, I could hear it. He killed her."

OH! YAY! and HOOOOOOOOOORAY!!! :bounce

Finally Donnie might get his due...comeupance...karma...what have you. Sad it is that it took Beth's death to bring it to pass. I didn't like her but no one deserves the life she received at the hands of the Maclay men. And somehow I think Anya could've found a suitable price for her avarice and betrayal. It touched me that Beth drew the line at hurting Abby - that might have been her saving grace. :hmm

I've no doubt that the good ol' boys of this town would've looked the other way had Donnie hurt Tara or any of her "perverse" friends. But now he's taken one of their own even if she was just a " woman good for only one thing."

I played catch-up on this fic and now can't wait for more!!! I really want to know "the most beautiful thing a mother can say to her daughter." Oh yes I do!

Urn of Osiris: Great update, the explination for the cabin thing made a lot of sense. I really love that Abbey could feel her grandmother there in the cabin, shows how strong her love for her family is. I too hope that the cops don't get to Donnie first, he has to answer to the Scoobies first, and really answer to them. I can't wait to read more.

As usual you have the chapter nicely balanced with the tender moments between our girls and Abbey and the humour of Anya. Especially liked Any's regret that they didn't get to hunt Donnie down "and pummel him with razor sharp shovel blades"!

Hmm...

Which state are they in ? Or more to the point; whats the maximum sentence for manslughter ? (can't wedge it into 'murder' I'm afraid, drat). Oh yes, Donnie has dug himself into a huge hole now... trouble is that will realize that sooner or later.

People who nothing to loose do stupid things. I'm not really afraid of Donnie, provided the scoobies actually take care and stand watch and such, he just might try to do something stupid though... If I'm really optimisitic he might throw himself in front of train to end his pointless existance... but that would be to easy :D

So the cabin indeed did mess with magic, to bad it absorbed it no matter what it was used for. That doesn't solve the problem of why Abby couldn't communicate with Tara once she was in the cabin though.... both are MaClay by blood, so it should have worked.

I was shortly wondering how much magic was absorbed in the cabin but then I remembered Willow using magic outside the cabin to get rid of the chains so that works out okay. Hmm... that spell makes me wonder though, we know only the MaClay woman did magic so why would Tara's mother ever need a place that protects her from magic being used against her ? Who would have the magic to use against her in the first place and why would she do so ??

Amazing that the scoobs in the hotelroom are actually suprised that Donnie is behind all this. None of them should enroll into Sunnydale Unversity for sure, would be a waste of money :)

Anya's statement of how she would get to punish Donnie, heh. It's actually the other way around, you better not hurt a kidnapper to much while the hostages aren't located yet. Well, the hostages are on their way to the hotel so I would dare say we can send Anya on her way to have a nice chat with Donnie.

I'm fairly sure she won't do such a lousy job as Buffy did, heh... no sireeee...not our Anya : -->>:

URNIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where to begin? You continue to astound me more and more with every update! and you know... I'm not even sure why I am astounded...it's not like I don't KNOW how amazing you are!!! neh! don't worry... I revel in the astonishment! :grin

ok... the update...

FIRST...

I LOVE how you portray Abbey!!!!!!

She is young and innocent, but at the same time she has this aura of intelligence and she is so very wise.

Quote:
Abigail looked up from her drawing, watching the women react to the information. Casually, she returned to her artwork, comforted by their gentle eyes.

and the diary...

wow... It's so amazing that they found something like that... it's like her mom is there....

Quote:
The redhead realized in that solemn moment her lover was the strongest woman she’d known.

wow Urnie... talk about making me cry... She really is so amazingly strong...they both are... doing what they have to do... EVEN though it could be dangerous and has proved to be so far... they can make it through this because, separately they are strong, together? invincible...

I just love how you write their relationship Urnie... it's so beautiful! The love they share... :)

oh, and that magic thing! THAT explains EVERYTHING! yay! *hugs* cause I have been sitting down and contemplating what on earth could have happened in the cabin... I MUST say I was FAR from disappointed :grin You so rock! I love it! and I love being able to spend hours coming up with theories:grin I would share some...but... ahem... it's probably safest for all involved that I don't.... ya know...downers? they don't make them in bulk...:paranoid

wow... so Tara's mom needed protection and she took it in that cabin...

I must say that if Donnie had to put them anywhere then he definitely chose well!

OK...there is NO way they can lose this land now...

speaking of Tara's mom

THAT was so beautiful! Wow... Abbey feeling her in the cabin

Quote:
“We protected each other.”

*sobs* yessss.....they did!

Quote:
“She was there mommy.” She lowered her head, concentrating on the drawing. “I could feel her there. If you go you’ll feel it too.”

Quote:
“Well that’s what it felt like only just spin it in a circle. Cause Gramma feels really good in my heart.” She smiled, pausing to hold her tiny palm against her chest. “Feels like having you there.” She looked at her parents

See... that kid is just special :grin

It's all so wonderful!!!

and then the poor scoobies worrying cause of the letter! Even though they would have KNOWN that it was Donnie behind it, that letter must have scared them so much! I know I would have just...well...freaked...

BUT all is good :) I'm so glad that Will spoke to Dawn before a major problem broke out, cause that coulda been bad!

and speaking of Donnie...

it appears that the jerk has been discovered... *sighs and puts the carrot down* oh yes... I suppose I SHOULD let other, more qualified people, take him down... but still... *growls* he is so evil!

and what a cliffie Urnie *hugs* you are sooooooooo suspenseful! Can you just see me on the edge of my chair? *winces* ouch! *looks sheepish* fell off...

ahem...

Quote:
You and your :grin were dearly missed

*hugs* oh you :grin I'm BACK! and it's gonna be hard to get rid of me :p

Quote:
Did you really think I'd have Abbey Kidnapped by that man
*sighs* well....no...not really...no :grin BUT I just had to plead my case anyway! It was very... well... it felt good to...er...abuse Donnie *looks sheepish*

and you are so right... Tara IS a sparkling diamond :grin

Quote:
Thanks for reading.

oh no no no no... Thank YOU for writing! I think I speak for everyone when I say GO YOU!!! This fic is so amazing Urnie!!!

I must say... LOVE the sig (well BOTH sigs)*grins* it is so very deep... GO YOU!!!

Mwa, Love, and chocolates,

Chel!

oh...and , , , and !!!

They have missed you! They begged that I post them... pft! kids! can't take em anywhere :p

Woo!

I can't believe I missed this update!:stink

So glad to see the girls back together and happy again.

I'm so glad that the cabin was protected against outside magics...it wasn't a threat in this case, but as the scoobies well know, other witches aren't as sweet and mentally stable as our Willow and Tara.

I mean, jeez...Amy's mom, Rack, none of them would have had any power in that cabin. So nice spell. And as far as the Maclay men....well the spell placed on the cabin was active right? If I understood things correctly the protection spell works in many ways. It prevents the Maclay women from being harmed physically, (I'm thinking that the magic absorbed into the walls throws energy bolts or sets up protective shields or something that would defend the women from physical blows) it absorbs the magic of those who aren't Maclay's and it amplifies the magic of the Maclay women...so they can basically kick ass.:punch

I say, lets move the cabin to Sunnydale and use it next time the end of the world is nigh:p

And the cops are coming for Donnie....:bounce

I'm thinking, killing Beth may not be premeditated murder, but kidnapping is a federal offense, and I think any deaths that occur during the committing of a felony are automatically slated as capital murder. :smash :clap :jho :smash

So hehehe better run, boy....

Great update Shar!

Can't wait for more:)

Hey Urn,

Great update as usual. Well worth the wait. Justs makes us all the more keen and appreciative. :grin

Loved how Abigail described the feeling of her Grandma. I think one of the things that appeals to me here is that they're such strong women, but in a quiet understated way. When Willow was watching Tara read her mothers writing, realising how brave and courageous she was, it was lovely to see her appreciate that.

Also amused by Anya trying to tell them what had happened only for Willow to answer back on the phone. Priceless. :lol

Its such a wonderful story, hope you enjoy the holidays,

Sonya

Happy New Year, may 2003 bring you lots of heavenly bodies :grin

About the fic : something tells me that our girls aren't out of danger... :| I vote for Donnie in jail!!

Postby Urn of Osiris » Tue Dec 31, 2002 1:00 am

Wow feeling rusty here. As Christine so blatantly pointed out I have had a lull in my postings here. Blame it on late night chatting and the overwhelming holiday season...well and perhaps the complete meltdown of my motherboard.

So the next chapter is off with the beta and I hope to have it up very soon. Now to answer your feedback...sorry it has taken me so long.

Nickole......oh crap.....I really hope you haven't been stuck there at the edge of your seat. I just had no idea it had been so long since my last update. Feeling much guilt right now. Hopefully you will enjoy the next chapter, if you haven't given up hope for a new one.

Cindy Lou who.........Well from day one Beth was a goner. Just a matter of time. It's really more about her choices and the consequences. I'm sure Anya would have found a suitable punishment but hmmm here we needed to move the story differently. As evil as Beth is she still had a heart, kids have a way of bringing out the good in very angry people. Her last good deed I guess. As far as her mother's words, it's going to drive Buffy crazy too.

BV......Thank you. Well the idea was that Abigail was distracted by the emotion of her grandmother but I guess that was lost in the story telling. and the spanking smilies not really sure that's a Donnie thing *perks brow* although.....

LC........so I hear that the cliffs hear are very pleasing to you. Something about a top ten ranking....very flattering. Thank you. Oh and the snoopy dancing is very much allowed in here so dance away!! *opens dance floor*

and Donnie well as I've always said he'll get his... no doubts there.

Rai.........:whistle Want a bit of vengeance do you? Well occasionally the scoobies can be a team. I like them as a force to be reckoned with. So glad you enjoy it.

Lonewolf......Thank you. The connection in the Bennett family is strong. I just wanted to give Abbey an opportunity to feel connected to the powerful women that are a part of her bloodline. Donnie will be punished.

Molly.........Thank you, I'm trying to balance everything out. Anya is my best avenue for humor and the image of her pounding on Donnie is flowing wildly through my head every time I think about the final chapters. Which are coming very soon. I'm glad you are enjoying the fic.

deixs.........yes it's Beth. dead... killed...gone...finished.

dekalog.......Well as much as I'd like to have Anya really pummel him, I'm fairly certain at this point that it is just my little fantasy. Awww you know I'm taking her there. I have to do it. It really is about moving forward.

AND I caught that you liked it ;)

Lea.........ya know I was all happy to see you here all celebrating the cops and Donnie getting his and you called the chapter lovely....which btw Thank you. THEN I get PANTS!! :eyebrow Are you serious?? I mean really? WHO does the laundry?? Now heh I can proudly scream PANTS!!!!

:whistle

Grimmy......Well you certainly throw out some creative ideas this time around. Very spoilerish :sh And you optimistic :shock

as far as the cabin goes Abbey has little understanding of the magic and although it made her stronger the force of Willow's presence trapped her powers inside. The purpose was protection from everything even yourself.

As much as I would love to turn Anya on him and settle the entire thing....that would be too easy.

CHEL!!!!..........What can I say to you sweet one. hetrefecket...I am in awe of your feedback and shamefully reminded how short my chapters are when compared to your feedback. Toda raba raba I am humbled.

So... Abbey is just the best part of her parents and that you delight in her character makes me soooooo happy.

The diary is a connection to her mother but it is also a pathway for Willow and Abbey to her.

Well this has really been about stripping it all away and revealing true strength. And the relationship between them. Who wouldn't turn to goo from the two of them together.

Definately downers in bulk... I'm sure there is a dot com for that. Hmmmm perhaps you could check with our resident tech head. ;)

Toda raba raba Chel for reading and for feedback.

*give her best yoga salute*

CINDI!!!!!.......wow a Cindi Chel double wammy. What could be better. *ponders*

And you really didn't miss the update as I have been very slow in posting another I'm certain you are safe now.

WELL, hmm you write the cabin better then I did. Perhaps you can explain it to the rest of the crowd. :p I'm not so sure I got the point across.

Thanks Cindi I really do appreciate your feedback and your friendship. hetrefecket

Sonya......Thanks for the patience. I think your observation is right on. They are strong and powerful...quietly. I know it's in my head but that you see them that way makes me smile :grin

Well Anya is just the opposite of W/T, needing constantly to display her 'power' and who better to silence her than Willow.

Thanks my holidays have been great and I hope yours have been too.

lil' c......Thank you so very much.

Christine......... WOW way to guilt a girl into writing. Good thing I sent the update to the beta late last night. Saves me from frantically penning to please. Yes big party tonight so no update today. I hoped but then not.

So you'll have to wait another day or two but it is a longer chapter if that helps any?

To all of you that read Thank you so very much. I appreciate the feedback and the e-mail messages. Have a wonderful New Year's eve celebration and for those of you that have celebrated already

Happy New Year!!!

edited because spell check ate half of my replies. Here I thought I gave it enough. heh go figure.

Well here you all go. I know it has been a long wait. Sorry about that. Hope you all have a wonderful New Year's celebration. Peace and Love to you all

Chapter 32

The parking lot of the hotel appeared empty, dark and abandoned. Buffy pulled into the space, forcing a breath from her lungs. She pressed her palms into the steering wheel, forcing the tension from her body. She reached slowly toward the shift arm, lifting it into park. The jeep lurched back and forth jolting the passengers in the back seat.

“We’re here.” She sighed, resting her forehead against the steering wheel. “Heh, and in one piece…go me.”

“Yes Buffy, the driving lessons seemed to help.” The redhead turned toward her child. “Nice job Ab.” Their hands met in a high five.

“Well all she needed was control mom.” The tiny blonde smiled repeating the words she’d heard the slayer chant. “Plus she’s a really fast learner.”

The slayer turned in her seat, laughing at Abigail’s words. “You my dear…” She pointed her finger, fighting the laughter, “are too smart for your own good.”

“She takes after her mother.” Tara winked at her wife.

Willow reached for her Lover. “Yes she does.”

Abbey unfastened her safety belt, leaning toward the slayer. “Funny aren’t they?”

Buffy smiled watching them disappear into each other’s eyes. “Yes Ab, very funny.” The child climbed into the front seat. “Let’s go inside.”

Buffy reached for the door handle, shifting the child into her lap.

Tara looked up from the kiss. “We’re ready.”

Willow smiled pressing the tip of her tongue between her teeth. “Oh we are. So we should go in then.” Her statement, more of a private question.

The slayer raised a questioning brow. “And we would be discussing going into the hotel room.” She winked.

“We would.” Willow opened her door. “And that’s all we would be discussing.”

Tara climbed over the seat following her wife out the same side. The red head opened the driver’s door, lifting her daughter into her lover’s arms. “There you go Abbey girl.” She kissed her daughter and her wife.

Together they walked through the hotel lobby, down the vacant corridor. Buffy fumbled for the room key in her back pocket. They stood together in front of the door. Tara shifted her daughter in her arms, feeling Willow’s hand slip across the small of her back.

The redhead rocked from her heels to her toes impatiently scolding the slayer. “Hurry up Buffy.” Frustration mingled around her nervous humor. “Next time try a looser fit.” She kissed her family once more.

“Hey these are fine.” She defended her wardrobe, pulling the waist of her pants. They laughed at the extreme lack of space around the belt line. She shifted her eyes between the women and her pants. “Well its muscle mass and slayer conditioning.” She pulled the key from her pocket. “And… and there we go.” She waved it in front of the redhead.

Willow snatched the card, quickly slipping it into the lock. “Right Buff.”

They entered the quiet room, hearing the muffled argument in the adjoining suite. Buffy cracked open the door, quietly entering.

Dawn jumped off the bed racing into her sister’s arms.

Xander stepped forward, looking for his best friend. “Where’s Will?”

She peeked around the door. “That would be me.” The impact of their bodies colliding knocked the wind from her lungs. She gasped through his python squeeze. “And you missed me?”

“Well he did…yes.” Anya crossed her arms in front of her chest. “Personally I was hoping for a chance to hunt down and pummel that son of a bitch.”

“Ahn!” He scolded his wife. They turned to watch Tara and Abbey walk through the door. “Sorry Tara.”

“No you don’t have to be," Tara said. Abbey folded her arms around her mother. “He’s gone to far this time.” She tilted her head against her daughter’s. “We need to call the police.” She shook her head disgusted by her brother’s actions. “Hopefully they’ll take my word over his.” She paused, looking at her wife. “But I’m not counting on it.”

Anya stepped forward, slipping the envelope from the table. She walked slowly toward the blonde handing it to her.

Abbey noticed Patrick playing on the floor. “Can I play with Patrick?” Her tiny green eyes fluttered with hope. “Please?”

She flexed her body, slipping down the front of her mother’s body. Tara grabbed under her tiny arms. “Always sweetie.”

She kissed her mother, quickly padding off to play with her cousin.

Tara took the envelope, slowly unfolding the flap with her fingers. The room fell silent as the tattered piece of fabric fell into her hand. She read his scribbled message.

“Will!” She gasped her lover’s name. The color vanished from her cheeks. Her fingers fell limp, dropping the card to the floor. She rolled the piece of fabric against her palm. “Oh goddess…what he could have done.”

Willow quickly grabbed the note flipping it over to read it. She took the torn fabric shoving it back into the envelope. “This will be enough.” Her hands slipped around her lover’s face. Her finger trailed slowly along the line of her hair, tenderly outlining her features. “This is all the proof we need baby.”

She handed the envelope back to Xander. He quickly slipped it into his front pocket.

Tara stood shocked…silent. Any hope of salvaging a relationship with her brother died when the note hit the floor. She stepped away from her wife. “Call the police.” Her arms moved in front of her forcing a space between herself and her wife.

The redhead moved in slowly, taking her lover’s hands into her own, tenderly raising

together, arching palm against palm. Willow kissed her forehead softly. “I’m here. We’re here. And we are alive.”

Tara tried to pull away, to hide the shame of her heartbreak. Her wife held fast, stepping them slowly into the adjoining room. She turned to her friends. “We need a few minutes okay?”

Xander nodded his understanding, smiling.

Anya zipped in quickly to add. “Just a few minutes?” She winked. She turned to her husband. “Well for them it isn’t long enough. But you… well you are the minute man.”

She slapped him hard on the back, forcing him to choke on his attempt to refute her.

Willow looked at Abbey and then to the Slayer. “No one leaves this room Buffy.”

They all agreed. The redhead closed the door behind her, latching it locked.

Tara dropped to the edge of the bed, exhausted…defeated, every ounce of her being fully aware of the long night. She lay back sending her arms out over her head.

Willow stepped slowly toward the edge, lowering herself over her wife. “Please don’t blame yourself.”

Tara turned her head away. “I’m not.”

Willow leaned back straddling her love. “Tara.” She reached for her chin, turning the blondes face back toward her. “We’ve been lovers long enough for me to know what you think and feel. Your pain hurts me more than anything I have ever known.” She leaned in slowly, kissing her lips tenderly. “What he did…what he wrote…didn’t hurt me until I saw it hurt you.”

Tara focused on her wife. “Will… I never took him as a threat. I mean, I just didn’t think he would do any of this and for what?” She tried to sit but the weight of her lover pressed hard against her.

“Baby…it doesn’t matter now. The note…” She watched her wife turn away, blue eyes drifting off again, staring at the shadowed walls. “The note may be painful but it is evidence.”

Tara shifted against the redhead, anxiously twisting her fingers together over her head. “I have struggled my entire life to not hate the way I have been hated by them.” She closed her eyes, focusing her thoughts. Tears streamed down both cheeks dripping off onto the bed. “I want him…” She stopped.

Willow moved her hand over her lover’s lips. “Don’t say it. Tara…please.” She tenderly stroked the trail of her cheeks wiping away the sorrow. “Baby if you say it, and I know what you feel…you put it out into the world. Don’t give in to his hate. Please…I’m begging you to forgive his hate and greed. I’m asking you for Abbey and for me, please let go of the hate.”

“How can you ask me that?” Tara’s body stiffened sharply under her wife, shocked by her refusal to give in to vengeance. Using every bit of strength she arched her wife off her body, quickly taking a defensive position. “He threatened to kill you Willow.”

“I was there. I remember.” The redhead grabbed her lover’s arm.

The sting of the words hit hard against Tara’s heart. “So you see why I want to…”

Willow kissed her lips, silencing the blonde. She pulled back, pressing her palms against her wife’s cheeks. “Never!” She raised her voice, demanding full attention. “Never! violate who we are and what we believe for that piece of human waste.” She turned away walking toward the door. She pointed toward the space separating them from their family. “That child in there…your daughter… our daughter…don’t destroy everything we are as a family, because of him.”

Tara walked from the room resting her body against the bathroom door. She folded against the mirror, taking in the full length sight of herself. Her eyes clamped tight forcing the image from her mind. She yelled back at herself “Who the hell are you?”

Willow stood in the center of the room, shocked by her lover’s anger, wondering how to rescue her from her past, knowing that once she gave in to the anger her pain would double in size. “Tara.”

“It was rhetorical Will.” She vented her frustration at the redhead. “Please don’t simplify this.” She felt her anger ease. “He deserves to be punished.”

The redhead stepped forward slipping in behind her wife. Together they stared at the full length reflection. “It’s not our job to punish him.” She pointed at the image in the mirror. “Do you see the Beautiful Blonde in there?”

Tara fought her urge to smile. “I see us.”

“Well it’s a start.” She furrowed her brow in frustration. “The woman in my arms…she’s my life. Since the day we met she stole my heart.” She leaned back against the frame of the door, taking her lover tighter against her body. “That woman.” She reached her hand forward touching the image in the glass. “She’s my everything. What keeps me from spiraling wildly out of control. I can’t imagine a single day without loving her.” Tara turned away from the reflection.

“I can imagine it.” She pushed away from the embrace moving further into the room. Her hand trailed across the tub faucet. “Twelve hours ago it was my reality. It was an experience I have never had. I’ve lost so much in my life Will. But losing you…it was a reality that I just never wanted to imagine…let alone live through.”

“But it’s over now.”

They danced through the room each knowing what the other needed, synchronized in their actions. Tara tested the temperature of the water as the redhead poured in small quantities of essential oils and herbs. The blonde slipped her tired fingers up the length of buttons on her shirt. Willow grasped her hands.

“Let me.” She smiled at her wife.

Tara surrendered, exhausted. She closed her eyes feeling the slender fingers drift slowly between her breasts. Button by button she moved to her waist. The slim alabaster hands slipped into the free flowing flaps of fabric, sliding over her soft curves resting briefly on her shoulders. She slipped the collar edges off, releasing it to the floor. She stared at her goddess.

Willow leaned in slowly kissing her collar bone trailing tender lips across her breast to the other side. “Tell me what you want.”

Tara whispered softly. “I want to go home.”

The redhead’s hands caressed the blonde’s spine pausing briefly to unclasp her bra. “Like home home?”

“Yes.” Tara’s tension eased as the fingers trailed back to her waist.

“When?” She unfastened her wife’s skirt, releasing it to the floor.

“Now!” The decisive tone forced Willow to pause.

“Tara? You mean right now? Just pack and go and leave every part of your past behind you?” She moved her hands from the blonde’s soft skin.

“Yes sweetie. Can we?” Her voice cracked with a pleading tone. “I just want to get away from here. I want us to be safe.”

Willow hesitated reading her lover’s desperation. “Okay.” She eased her wife into the soothing bath. “Relax and I’ll go pack. I’ll tell everyone the plan and we’ll go.”

Tara rested against the cold porcelain surface. “I liked this tub better with you in it.” She caressed the bright red residue of dissolving wax. “Promise me that we’ll do that again.”

Willow blushed. “As soon as we get home.” She winked. “I’ll go and tell the gang, then I’ll pack and I’ll come back to take care of you.” She walked toward the door, pausing to listen to her wife.

“I love you Willow.” She watched her wife linger in the doorway. “Thank you.”

“Baby…being loved by you is the only thanks I ever need.”

Tara sighed, gulping a large breath of air. Slowly she slipped beneath the surface of the water.

The redhead carefully packed their possessions, taking special care to wrap the contents of the strong box. She lined the bags against the wall. Her hand trailed across the severed strap of the science bag, making mental note to replace it.

She sat at the desk, thumbing through the phone book. She scribbled a name and phone number on hotel stationary, quickly making a phone call. She dialed the Police station, explaining all the details of the previous night. They instructed her to come to file a report. She moved toward the door unlatching the lock.

The crowd in the room turned to face her, waiting to hear her speak.

“Pack.” She looked at each person in the room. Buffy stood quickly worried they were in immediate danger.

“Will…What’s the what?” She stood quickly in front of the tiny blonde.

“It’s ok Buff. Nothing new. It’s just that Tara is finished here, and emotionally we can’t take this place.”

Anya stood from the bed staring at the redhead. “What do you mean she’s finished?” She stepped toward the door attempting to see the blonde. “I wanna see her. We can’t just leave.”

“NO!” Willow blocked the doorway. “She needs to leave Anya. This is too much for her. The past few days she has confronted every fear she’s ever had. Losing Abbey and Me…that was the final blow. She can’t take any more.”

Xander stepped forward holding his wife by the shoulders. “Ahn…stop and think for a minute.”

“Think? You want me to think.” She turned facing her husband. “All I’ve been doing is thinking about what happened last night. What that bastard did to Willow.” She paused pointing at the tiny blonde playing on the floor. “What he did to her.” She stepped away from the group, arms flailing in the air. “He can’t get away with this.”

Buffy stepped forward scooping Abbey from the floor. “I hate to admit it Will but Anya has a point.”

“Yes she has a point and that’s why we’re stopping at the police station to report the kidnapping.” The redhead motioned to Dawn. “Dawnie will you watch the kids just for a minute.”

“Sure…whatever you need.” She took Abbey and carried her toward the corner of the room.

They moved away from the children toward the door. Willow leaned against it, fidgeting with the handle. “I need to tell you the police are already looking for Donnie.”

“Good!” Anya forced her arms defensively across her chest. “So they believed you?”

“Well I told them everything but he must have done something else because the cop didn’t seem surprised, and mentioned he was wanted for questioning”

“Something else?” Brenda stared between them frightened for her own safety. She turned toward her son watching him innocently tackle his cousin. “What did they say?”

The redhead looked at the woman, angry at her curiosity. “Well in this town how much do you think they’d tell me?”

“I’m sorry. I know the answer and all I can say is that I’m not Donnie.” She wanted to run, to escape the glaring eyes. She could feel their distrust smothering her already fragile spirit.

“No you aren’t Donnie.” Anya snapped sharply. “But I trust you about as far as I can throw him.” Her mind raced with images of launching the man over a very tall cliff.

“I’d never hurt any of you. Especially Tara or Abbey.”

“Prove it.” The ex-vengeance demon could taste the fear.

“How?” Brenda stood strong, making eye contact with the blonde.

“Find out what he did. Call the cops right now.”

Brenda stepped from the door moving toward the phone, dialing the number. She asked for the sergeant on duty. She continued quickly asking questions about her husband.

“Oh my god!” She dropped the receiver to the floor. She spun against the table resting her body against the wall. Slowly she slumped to the floor…silent…catatonic.

Xander picked up the receiver, pointing it at the slumped form. “Should I?”

She didn’t respond. She stared at the wall in front of her.

“Well okay then.” He spoke with the officer on the other end. He explained to Xander that Donnie was wanted for questioning in the death of his cousin, giving brutal detail about her battered body. The officer asked him if he was able to care for Brenda, Xander assured him she was safe. “Thanks.” He slowly dropped the receiver back in its place.

Willow stepped forward, curious and concerned. “What?” She moved toward her friend.

“Xander what did he do?”

“Not here.” He guided them back toward the door. “He killed Beth.”

“He did what?” Buffy stood beside the redhead holding her from falling.

“Well the cops think he did, and want to question him.” They stared at Willow, watching her face turn pale.

“Pack.” She moved away from the group. “I have to tell Tara. She needs to know and as soon as everyone is ready, we're leaving this town.”

She staggered through the doorway grasping the framework to steady herself. The gang stood in shock not knowing how to react.

The slayer slapped her palms together, rubbing them tightly. “We should pack.”

They moved through the room quickly placing their possessions into their luggage.

Willow hesitated in the doorway, knowing the news would crush her wife, but needing to be the one to tell her. She heard the water draining from the tub and entered the room.

“Hey you couldn’t wait for me huh?”

Tara smiled. She turned her eyes to her lover noticing her pale complexion. “Will, goddess what’s wrong?” She stood quickly from the water. “Abbey? It isn’t Abbey is it?”

“Oh Tara…baby no.” She quickly moved to the blonde. “We’re okay. All of us are safe for now.”

“What is it Will?” She reached for a towel quickly wrapping it around her dripping body.

“Tell me what happened.”

“Maybe you should come out here and sit down.” She reached to tuck in the edge of the towel resting her hand over the blonde’s heart. She stared lovingly into the warm blue eyes.

“Tara this is really very bad.”

Willow grabbed her wife’s hands leading her from the room toward the bed. She kicked the door closed as they walked by. Tara sat rubbing her palms against the warm flesh of her face.

“Tell me.”

“It’s Beth.”

The blonde froze in her spot, knowing by her tone that her cousin was dead. She looked into her lover’s eyes. “Donnie?”

The redhead nodded, confirming the guess. “I don’t know any of the details but she is dead and he is wanted for questioning.”

“So you called the police?” She watched the redhead nod. “What’s next?” She moved quickly to the bed reaching for clean clothes.

“Stop Tara.” She recognized the blonde moving through the robotic motions, needing to make things right. Willow grabbed her tightly forcing the clothes to the floor. “Baby…stop please and tell me what’s going on in there.” She touched her finger to the blonde’s temple, tenderly training her hand over Tara’s heart.

.

“Will…he’s not going to hurt us anymore.” She stopped, allowing her wife to hold her tightly. She pulled back slowly staring into the redhead's eyes. “Are we packed?”

“Yes but I need to clean up and I can’t leave you.” She smiled. “And you are still fleshy naked so maybe you’d like to shower with me?”

“No!” she walked toward the bathroom. The redhead stood in shock. She could hear the water filling the tub. Tara stood in the doorway. “You deserve more then a shower.”

The slipped quietly together, Tara pulled the clothes from her wife’s body hungry to feel her arms around her, knowing with just a tender touch that they would be alive and ok.

Buffy listened at the door. “I hear the bath again.”

“Get away from the door.” Dawn scolded her sister.

“Hey I’m just making sure they’re ok.” She stepped toward Brenda. “What are we going to do with her?”

Anya offered her backhanded talents. “I can smack her.”

Xander shook his head. “Not again Ahn.”

“Has anyone noticed this chick drops like a fly all the time?” She wanted to kick her, just to see how she’d respond. “What’s that all about?”

“I don’t know.” He grabbed her by the shoulders moving her away from the vulnerable woman. “Just stay away from her. Help us load the car.”

Buffy picked up her luggage walking out the door with her friends. “Dawn, keep an eye on the kids. We’ll be right back.”

“Got it Buffy.” She saluted giving her sister a smirk. “And Brenda?”

“She’s not going anywhere anytime soon.”

Xander waved a hand in front of her face.

They moved out into the hall quickly carrying the bags to the car. Buffy tossed them into the trunk grumbling about the drive home. “We should have gotten round trip tickets.”

Anya laughed. “Oh but this fine automobile has very comfortable seats and spacious leg and head room.” She gave her best Vanna wave across the window and door.

Buffy and Xander laughed escorting her back inside the hotel. They walked down the hall noticing the room door was open.

“Did you close that?”

“Yes!” Xander felt the arm of the slayer sweep across his chest pressing him against the wall.

Buffy moved quickly into the room stopping fast at the sight of her sister unconscious on the floor. She turned sharply looking for the tiny blonde. She screamed. “Abigail!” She dropped to the floor checking Dawn for a pulse. “She’s okay. ABIGAIL!” Her scream echoed through the door. Willow and Tara heard the cry, leaping from the bath into the next room.

The tiny blonde crawled from under the bed. “I’m here auntie Buffy.”

Willow and Tara burst through the door. “Abigail?” they called her name in unison. The child raced into their arms.

Dawn moaned, raising her hand to the back of her head.

“Dawn are you alright?” Buffy helped her to the bed.

“I’m fine, but Brenda…” She felt the sting of the lump as she touched it. “She’s gone and she took Patrick.”
