Having walked in silence for about three minutes Willow’s patience was running thin. She needed to know what was bothering Tara. Now. She’d never seen her like this, so pensive, so quiet. If it hadn’t been for the strong hold Tara had on her hand Willow would have thought Tara was mad at her, that she wanted nothing to do with her anymore.
Glancing quietly at her lover she couldn’t help but wonder what she was thinking about. She uttered the first thing to pop in her mind, “Xander! Was it Xander? Did he say something to you? What did he say?”
Although some of her many thoughts revolved around the boy she couldn’t help but deny it, “No.”
“Did you have problems sneaking out?” She wondered aloud. Every night she worried Tara would get caught and be grounded by her stern father. It was something she dreaded.
Tara just shook her head, her long hair wildly flowing across her face.
The suspense was killing her, Willow couldn’t take it anymore. “Tara, stop. Look at me. Please.” she said as she halted and stood in place. Tara was tugged back towards her, never having let her hand go. “What’s going on?”
Tara’s eyes were filled with tears and ready to gush, “It's just hard,” her throat ached, “All of this.”
Willow’s heart dropped upon hearing Tara’s fragile tone. “What is?” she asked as she gently reached out and cupped her heavenly face within her hands. What was she talking about? Sneaking out? Being with her? Was that hard? It wasn’t hard for Willow. Loving Tara was the easiest thing in the world.
“The outsider feeling.”
Willow eyed her a moment, “Tara, you're not an outsider.” She said a bit relieved that Tara was not thinking what she’d been thinking. Oh how that would have just crushed her.
She quickly kissed Tara’s full lips, her cheeks, her nose, her wet eye lids even. She held the blonde’s body close to hers after wrapping her arms around her tightly.
A small smile spread across Tara’s face as she sniffled the tears away, “Well, yah. Kinda am.”
“No. No, you're not.” Willow’s tone was adamant. She even shook her head for emphasis.
“Will, it's okay. You’ve all known each other for so long, gone through so much. You guys all just have this really tight bond. It's hard to break into that. I'm not even sure I want to.”
“I'm sure.” Tara could see Willow meant it. Trying to reassure her, Willow’s fingers softly caressed Tara’s face. “Did Xander say something? Sometimes he can be an idiot.”
Tara giggled at the innocent way Willow called her best friend an idiot. She knew she didn’t mean it in a mean way. “Xander’s a sweetie. And we were just talking. We’ve never, you know, really talked. Not that we talked that much tonight anyhow.”
Willow grinned at the disclosure. If Xander had spoken to Tara then probably wasn't still angry at her. She knew Xander would never be purposefully impolite to Tara but she’d still feared it. All the Scoobies had a tendency to stick their foot in their mouths at the wrong times. “See, you're completely one of the gang now. Everyone accepts that.”
Tara slowly nodded. It was true, it seemed all of Willow’s friends accepted her and their relationship. But she also knew Xander was right, she knew no matter what happened she’d end up breaking Willow’s heart. Just like hers would be. “But the gang is leaving. Soon.”
The blaring reality of that statement pained Willow. “Tara, no. Please don’t think about that.” Pulling her closer still she urgently kissed her. Looking deep into her eyes she added softly, “Don’t say that.”
Tara could feel her frail body shaking a bit. “Willow…”
“No, listen to me. Tara, you can’t think about that. It’ll just drive you crazy. I’ve thought about this enough for the both of us. You only live two hours away. I can come see you. I can visit. And you can visit me and sleep over and see Sunnydale. I’ll take you everywhere. I’ll show you everything.”
The desperation in Willow’s voice was overwhelming. Even though she knew it would be nearly impossible for her to ever be allowed to visit Sunnydale, she agreed to it. “Ok.”
“I mean it, Tara.” Willow accentuated.
Tara looked within those eyes she loved dearly. “I know.”
“We still have three whole weeks. And we’ll make the most of the time we have together. We have to. Starting right now.”
“Right now?” Tara asked, a coquettish smile spreading over her features.
Willow knew exactly what she was getting at. “I think I recall someone saying there was more than one gift during today’s gift giving session. A session that was interrupted before said second gift was given.”
Tara giggled again, “Speaking of gifts, where’s your bracelet?”
Willow moved slightly away from Tara to bend over, her hand reaching down towards her ankle. She gently pushed down her pink kitty shapes filled sock to reveal the bracelet. “I’m afraid of losing it. This way it’s being guarded by my sock.” She mentioned as she looked up at a smiling Tara.
“Good idea.”
“I thought so.” She replied as she came back up, her eyes scanning the blonde’s shapely legs encased in tight blue jeans. Before she fully stood she playfully bit at one Tara’s breast, careful not to bite too hard on the nipple.
The blonde jumped back as a fit of laughter racked her body. “Willow!”
Willow’s hand quickly grabbed Tara’s and drew her close, “Couldn’t help myself.” She said as she leaned over and fondly kissed Tara’s neck.
Tara’s arms enveloped the redhead. “I love you,” she voiced as her fingers wandered up into red hair.
Although Willow’s mouth was now affectionately kissing Tara’s collarbone, she suddenly stood up straight. “Tell me again”, she told piercing blue eyes.
Tara looked at her, intensely intimate, “I love you, Willow.”
Coming from those lips those four words meant the world to her. “I think we need to find a place were we can be alone.” Willow’s sensual tone wasn’t unnoticed.
“We are alone.”
Willow lightly rolled her eyes and smile. Tara watched the redhead scan their surroundings and noticed they had wandered off to the western edge the camp near where the staffers huts were.
“Gazebo?” she suggested, motioning with her chin to the structure a few feet away. Willow then nodded, basically agreeing with herself. “Looks safe. All the staff should be at the bonfire and we can sneak in the smoochies.” She said as cupped Tara’s hand and led her towards the gazebo.
“A gazebo? Are you trying to turn me on?” Tara teased.
“I have to try now?”
“Well, you can bite my other nipple.”
Willow abruptly turned over towards her girlfriend. “Tara!”
“What?” she innocently asked, “just trying a little spicy talk.”
